Wonderful little place! Very clean, food was yummy (forgot to take pics of that). They DO have a tofu banh mi option which didn't show on their menu. They have a few cute baked dessert items as well. The sugar cookies were so cute and delicious! The employees were very nice as well!

I wish I had better things to say about this place cause I love tea houses and this is super close to me but it was just ok. I called to order ahead and asked for a Taro milk tea with boba, a meatball banh mi and a grilled meat banh mi. When on the phone, the person I talked to told me it was going to be 30 minutes! For super easy to make sandwiches! I was really craving this so I said it was fine. She repeated the order to me but she said pork belly (which sounds nothing like what I ordered) instead of grilled meat (she got the meatball right) so I corrected her, she asked if I wanted anything else and I said that that was all, so then she just hangs up. I called again to make sure my order was actually put in and she (this time it was a different lady) confirmed the order and said the total amount. I decided to get there before the 30 minutes in case they made it faster, it wasn't busy, just one couple there, it's cute and clean. Thankfully my order was ready as soon as I got there. She AGAIN repeated the order, I said yes sounds good, I paid and drove home. Got home and NO MEATBALL SANDWICH (I was craving this one the most)! They gave me, I'm guessing is their chicken banh mi? I'm saying I'm guessing cause it was maybe ground chicken? In their picture of the chicken banh mi it looks like shredded chicken but this had a weird taste and texture that reminded me of meatless/tofu crumbles, and I DO NOT like the taste or texture of tofu (sorry tofu lovers but it grosses me out. Btw, they don't have tofu on their menu). The sandwich was stuffed with the "meat" and veggies which would've been nice if it was the right one. I didn't even eat half of it, couldn't. The grilled meat banh mi tasted as expected but they added a lot less ingredients than the other sandwich and it actually costs a little more. The tea was ok, wish it was a tad sweeter. $6 for a very mild tasting drink. The boba was really nice and soft. Might give em another try, most likely for drinks only.

We can literally sit there for hours talking while our youngest plays in the play area. The lattes are really good, and my daughter loves the hot chocolate. The pastries and treats are a little hit or miss. The almond croissant is definitely the winner and probably my favorite thing we've tried. My middle daughter really likes the brownie. She did say she thinks there may be cinnamon or something else added to the chocolate muffin because there was a flavor in it that threw her off a little. The pecan cinnamon roll was pretty good. The blueberry scone, though, tasted like it had maybe been frozen too long? I'm not completely sure, but there was just something about the taste and texture that was a little off. The savory items are good, but I do think they need to work on reheating them. The chorizo empanada had really good flavor, but the outside dough was still soggy because it wasn't heated long enough. It needed more time to crisp up. The same thing happened with the ham and cheese croissant. The bottom was very soggy, and it was only slightly warm throughout. One thing I really hope First Cup considers adding is nutritional information for their menu items. On our last visit, my 15 year old son came with us and wanted to try some things. He has Type 1 Diabetes, and having nutritional information, especially carbohydrate counts, is extremely important because we have to calculate his insulin based on what he eats. The staff did not have this information available or know where to find it. I know nutritional information is not required for every business, but for families like ours, it's not just a preference. Managing Type 1 Diabetes means constantly making calculations to keep my son safe. Without accurate information, we are left guessing, and guessing with insulin can mean his blood sugar goes too high or too low. As a mom, it's hard enough managing all of the daily decisions that come with T1D. My son should be able to go out with his family, try new foods, and enjoy a normal experience without us having to wonder if we are making the right choice for his health. Having this information available would make a huge difference, not only for people with diabetes but also for customers with allergies or other dietary needs. Even with these concerns, we really do love the feel of First Cup. It's a welcoming place with a great atmosphere, and we will continue coming back. I just hope they consider improving the reheating process and adding nutritional information because those changes would make an already great place even better.

Ah, Java Owl -- a welcome little refuge in the strip-mall sprawl and chain-coffee sameness of Clear…read moreLake. The kind of place you stumble into expecting caffeine and leave with a small, irrational faith in humanity restored. People like to say Montrose is where Houston keeps its cool, its weird, its pulse. Maybe. But Java Owl makes a strong case that Clear Lake has been hiding a little strange magic of its own. It is bright, clean, odd in the best possible way, and alive with the feeling that something interesting might happen before you finish your cup. Now, the important part: the coffee. I judge a place by the black cup. No sugar, no milk, no whipped cream masquerading as personality. Just coffee, exposed and unprotected. Java Owl passes that test. The roast has character. It tastes like someone cared. It does not taste like the sad, scorched sludge you get from places that treat coffee beans like evidence to be burned. And if you want something more elaborate, they have that too. The specialty drinks rotate, mutate, and show up with a kind of reckless creativity that works more often than it has any right to. Every visit seems to bring some new concoction, some fresh little act of caffeinated imagination. Late nights at the Owl are their own species of entertainment. Beer, wine, conversation, and the grand old human circus of people watching. Someone might break into "Sweet Caroline." Someone else might decide the room needs a guitar solo. You do not so much sit there as get folded into the scene. It is noisy, warm, occasionally ridiculous, and never dull. Somehow, the place manages to be both energetic and peaceful, which should be impossible and yet is not. Good coffee, good people, a little music, a little chaos, and staff who seem genuinely happy to be there. The positivity is not the forced kind. It is not laminated corporate cheer. It is real enough that you can walk in tired and walk out a little lighter. So yes, go. Go to see and be seen, sure. But more than that, go because places like this matter. Java Owl is coffee, community, weirdness, and warmth in a town that could use more of all four.

I just got done with a lunch date nearby and needed a little pick me up to finish my errands. I'm assuming all their locations are similar in that this place is a drive thru or walk up concept. I almost drove past because the drive thru line spilled out into the road but then I saw they had two lanes moving at a pretty rapid pace. Just from what I saw, it seemed like the whole staff was young, high school kids, but they were working hard. They had multiple people walking the lines with an iPad taking orders and keeping traffic flowing. I explained it was my first time so the young lady gave a quick run down of some of their popular items and asked what flavor profiles I like. The line moved quick and I liked that they took the time to wipe down each drink before handing it over so there was no mess. Great customer service. I ended up ordering the Cookie Butter iced coffee. The flavors of this coffee included toasted marshmallow, hazelnut and white chocolate breve. I like a breve because you get a creamier drink. The flavors worked well together and I really enjoyed my drink. I typically like a more coffee forward drink, but every once in awhile I like a dessert like drink. This was that. 7 Brew is one of many like chains in the area so competition is high out here. In my opinion, this place has a slight edge over the other places in that they have a great variety of drinks and great customer service. I will most definitely be back.

Even more staff comes out to talk to the person in the car, they were given their drink, but continued to sit there holding up the line. Staff finally brings us our drinks, I asked "is this person going to move or are we going to have to go around them?" The staff said the person in the car worked there so everyone was just saying hi. They did not prompt the person in the car to move, just continued sitting there. The franchise owner should be embarrassed of their staff.
