The server who took our order was really friendly and even let my sister order the Mac & cheese a little past 10:30pm which is the time their kitchen closes. The bar area up front is pretty small with just a few tables, but it opens up in the back with more seating and a large communal table. I ordered a dozen oysters from the HH menu. They were on the smaller side and honestly didn't feel worth it. I also tried the chorizo empanadas, which were baked into little squares, not your traditional fried ones. They were just okay, and I didn't get much chorizo. The papas bravas were excellent, I loved the creamy sauce it came with. The mortadella and chorizo picante definitely was my favorite bite of the night. The tapas overall weren't too pricey, but portions were small. They have a decent wine list too. I really wanted to like this place but we had a blond server with bangs who was absolutely awful. On Friday 8/14 at around 5:55pm we sat at end of the bar, the female server took my drink order no problem; she took our oyster porder, then took our meat & cheese board order. The first time we inquired about the oysters order was 30 mins after we ordered; she said they were busy and didn't know when our order was going to be ready; which we understood and didn't want to add pressure; then we waited another 20 mins and inquired again with this same girl, and she had the audacity to say we never ordered with her; and right before I could lose my cool bartender Benjamin stopped her and showed her she had entered the orders. Then miraculously after almost an hour, all the food came out at once. If she had said, sorry for the delay or my apologies for the blunder, I wouldn't even write this review. But this insipidly vapid woman couldn't even muster an apology, or even admit to her mistake, she just dropped the plates down and walked away; no forks, no napkins, no share plates offered, we quickly ate and paid. As we were gathering ourselves to leave, she had the unmitigated gall to try to make small talk with us, as if she didn't just try to call us liars to make up for her shitty service. This is a great dollar oyster spot! It's so hard to find them in the city these days, but this place really has them for just $1 during happy hour. To pair, they have a $20 carafe of white or red wine. I would recommend getting there early because the place is small and fills up pretty quickly. It's a cute date spot and it feels very intimate with the close tables and candle lit atmosphere. The oysters come just stacked on a plate, which was a little strange, but it worked with the smaller tables. They don't give you the variety of sauces that usually come with oysters. Instead, they just give a simple vinegrette. The oysters were on the smaller side, but I enjoyed the taste. The service was also pretty attentive, and we were able to easily order a few rounds of oysters and wine without having to actively flag the servers down. The prices after happy hour do get pretty pricey. We got the charcuterie board, which came with 3 meats and 3 cheeses for $32. The portion size was pretty small for that small. There was maybe 2 or 3 bites of each, and it didn't come with many of the garnishes and extras that usually accompany boards like that. Overall though, I really enjoyed Ten Bells and can't wait to come back. The benches are technically great for groups, but honestly don't allow for super intimate conversation. Its still super fun nevertheless, and the wine list is EXTENSIVE.
