And if you happen to have a stroller... they'll be able to accommodate you. All the staff were very friendly and flexible. Not too loud. Great music at a reasonable volume. If you go with friends, you'll be able to actually converse. I had the steak frites, served differently than I've ever had it. The meat was sliced very thinly, but was so sumptuous, moist, and flavorful. It was bathed in a peppercorn glaze. I grew up in this neighborhood and this building was always under scaffolding for at least the last 10 years. So what a surprise when it finally came down and it was a hotel! Truthfully this place was good but overpriced. Service was good and the place is nice. We came here looking for the shrimp cocktail and the steak au poivre. To our surprise neither was on the menu anymore. So we went with the fruit de mer and the steak special of the day which was a chargrilled ribeye. The seafood platter was delicious and fresh. Great oysters as mussels. The steak was a bit too charred and the rosemary was a bit too overpowering. But overall it was good. The fries were delicious. We ending the night with the pineapple sorbet which tastes like a fancy Dole Whip. Overall the place is a bit overpriced for what it is but there was nothing inherently wrong. Would I come back? Probably just for the sorbet and cocktails. For the price point, I've had better elsewhere and that's ultimately what it comes down to. read more

This was excellent. First visit, we got the oysters rockefeller, beets, spaghetti pomodoro, bolognese, steak au poivre, french fries, sorbet, and profiterole. Everything was great, with the pomodoro being the surprise star of the night (it was a last minute add for us) -- it was really amazing, despite the time of year, and I think the sauce was a cheesier sauce that had some thickness to it, which we really loved. The oysters and profiterole are probably also musts for next time, but really every dish was excellent. read more

I think the current star average does not do this restaurant justice, but it is probably a result of the low number of reviews thus far! I had the opportunity to visit with some friends and tried most items on the menu. The overall consensus was that while the menu was not very creative, all dishes were executed to a high level with delicious results, which warrants a 5 star review! Standouts include the steak, the chicken entree (best chicken dish I have had since Crown Shy), and the foie gras. The service was also attentive, which the servers taking care to properly course out everything ordered with good pacing. One hiccup was that the restaurants ordering software glitched out and the bar did not get our drink orders until much later into the meal, which was frustrating but I think was not the restaurant's fault (although it did happen to other tables too from overhearing). Other note is that the pricing is definitely not cheap, so probably better for a special occassion or night out! read more

Solid 3.5-4 stars. Despite the fat not being more rendered on the duck, it was still delicious. The crème brûlée is silky and smooth, with a nice sugar brûlée crust. I also got the shrimp cocktail which is just okay. Not nearly as juicy and plump as other places. They're very attentive and nice, plus the restaurant is pretty! read more

It's a small menu with some great, simple dishes - complimentary bread and butter to start is excellent, as is the Caesar ($21), and then the Spaghetti ($25) and Burger ($24), to which you must add the exceptionally good fries ($12). I came here for dinner with friends last month and we had a wonderful experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful, as is the rest of the hotel. They've done a wonderful job with this historic building. Although there was still some construction going on then, we were able to walk around and check out some other areas, including the lobby lounge, which is gorgeous and worth checking out, but requires a different reservation. Although I assume they take walk-ins, too. We shared an appetizer, 3 entrees, and a side between the 3 of us and really enjoyed everything. However, dessert was our favorite! Both the melon sorbet and mousse au chocolat were extraordinary. We loved the presentation and attention to detail overall - all very in line with the hospitality group behind it. Service was friendly and attentive. One of the staff actually recommended trying the Hollandaise sauce from the fish with the fries - perfect combo! I would certainly recommend this place for a nice meal. Reservations are probably best. I would like to come back and try the lobby lounge next time. read more

The bar dining room is a bit noisy and crowded, and would suggest not dining in this room if you want to have a clearer conversation with your fellow diners. The service is excellent, and our waters were refilled whenever it seemed necessary. The food was really wonderful- we both had the duck for dinner, and it was juicy and not too firm. I have no clue why this place has such mediocre reviews. It's excellent. The bartenders were prompt and attentive and didn't make a big deal of me sitting at the bar alone like I've had some other establishments do. They asked for still or sparking water and even when I requested still, they brought me a full wine sized bottle full. They continued to refill my water glass themselves if it got anywhere near even half full. The old fashioneds were excellent. I didn't order food, but the couple next to me did. They asked them about any dietary restrictions and allergies and made sure to put out paper placements for them, even though they were dining at the bar. I cannot recommend Corner Bar enough. Yes, the drinks are slightly on the pricier side but so is everywhere in NYC. The ambience is excellent and I enjoyed my time here. read more

Had a great night at Corner Bar for dinner - the food and service were both fantastic. We started with the heirloom tomatoes and scallop (special that night). The tomatoes were fresh and well seasoned. They were served with pine nuts and goat cheese, and the flavors and textures worked well together. The scallop was tasty, though it's a little steep to charge $28 for a single scallop. For our mains we had the burger, skirt steak, and fries. The burger was one of the best I've had recently. They make a point of telling you it's smaller than most (5 oz) but it was cooked perfectly and served with onion and lettuce, with a pickle on the side. The fries were crispy and salted nicely. The skirt steak was well cooked and well seasoned. The au poivre sauce was flavorful and complemented the meat well. For dessert we had the melon sorbet and frangipane tart. The sorbet was creative in that the flavor was melon and it was served like soft serve ice cream. It was a huge portion compared to other places that serve you a couple boules. The tart was very good - the pastry was delicious and the raspberries were fresh. We especially loved the service. We were able to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace. We had time with our cocktails before our order was taken, and never felt rushed. Definitely look forward to coming back. read more

There is nothing good to say about this place but I'm giving it 2 stars so that my review isn't overlooked. My wife and I ate here and we were wowed by the location. It's beautiful to see a new development devote such care to older architectural details. Unfortunately, the staff was pretentious. They got the job done, but it continuously felt like we were being scolded for not looking, talking or eating a certain way. Most importantly, the chicken dish we ordered came to our plate raw. Literally uncooked pink chicken - a lot of it. It was bathing in a brown sauce that made it difficult to tell the color of the meat. We've been eager to try this restaurant as a continuation of our love for the Dimes Square neighborhood and finally managed to score a reservation at the bar (which might have avoided some of the service complaints seen elsewhere). The ambiance here is an elevated take on the classic NYC steakhouse, which felt especially comforting on a Sunday night. Everything was incredible -- starting with the Oysters Rockefeller (a refreshing herby garnish to contrast the earthier undertones of the oyster) and for the mains: Spaghetti Pomodoro (fresh & simple, perfectly executed) and the Steak Au Poivre, which was fattier than your average skirt and paired very nicely with the decadent peppercorn sauce. And a Creme Brûlée to finish. One of my favorite meals in recent memory. Highly recommend. read more

This is a big miss. There are pros, but it's limited. Food is very good: Excellent duck, Great Caesar salad. Delicious cocktails and wines. But that's where it ends. The pricing is absurd. Their signature dish is Steak Au Poivre but it does not come with frites even though they say steak frites is their signature dish. Oh, and to get that it's $81!! The duck and lamb portions are small. And the service, while well intentioned, is painfully slow. It's hard to understand who the restaurant is trying to attract because there are better French bistros all over Manhattan and Brooklyn (and easily more affordable too). The outdoor dining set up is nice but looking out at dingy and noisy Allen Street is a negative. The inside is very pretty but all in all, this is a never again. read more

The salad was just as good, looked like a bouquet of flowers and the trout carpaccio was spot on. Food, service and setting excel at this Chinatown french bistro. Though the location is odd, the restaurant is housed in the beautiful Nine Orchard hotel Swan Room Bar. Sister restaurants include Estela, Altro Paradiso, and Lodi. Dishes we enjoyed including oysters Rockefeller, lamb, and fluke. I would skip the clafoutis. Visited Corner Bar back in August and had a great experience. I arrived late and my friend was already seated with drinks, ready for the evening to begin (something I really appreciate from a restaurant where usually most places understandably make you wait until the entire party is there to be seated). What really blew me away was the service (it's surprising to read about other diners' experiences). I felt everyone was extremely hospitable while being authentic, sharing favorites on the menu, and making appropriate recommendations for us in terms of portions and taste preferences. The food was delicious! Portions are not very big which I personally appreciate. We had the foie gras terrine and oysters, Rockefeller, to start- YUM, get them! For mains, we had the burger- extremely savory and flavorful. They were running a pasta special that night which was not my personal favorite only because I like A LOT of sauce on my pasta and theirs was a bit dry. The facility is brand new (you could smell the newness, especially venturing downstairs to the bathrooms which are very clean and well maintained). I would offer one piece of feedback that the tables were spaced a little too close to one another. I get that real estate is premium but maybe removing one table would make things that much more special. Yes, as other diners mentioned this place is a bit on the pricey side but it's definitely worth checking out for a special occasion also what place isn't pricey right now in NYC? The wine list is extraordinary, I don't really know who is doing it, but someone that really knows the ecosystem of small independent producers around the world (of course, being in NY, you would pay 5 times the price at their place of origine). The food is excellent, the tomato salad, the meat, and the halibut are extraordinary. However, the menu is too small. Considering that some of the elements are a bit of too known options (burger, steak tartar etc.) there are literally not enough options if you want to share a few things with friends. The space is a bit unsophisticated and conventional. Well and carefully done, but totally conservative and ordinary. This is always a weak point in all Mattos' establishments. The design does not add anything to the experience. Being a totally known and kind of boring design, it feels that they spent a lot of money and efforts to make it look like a 30-dollar pizza place, no one would be surprised about it. Service is good. The maitres, however, are not really prepared to talk about the menu, neither about the wine list. Being this an ambitious place a bit of a higher culture for gastronomy from the staff would be appreciated. In general, this is a good place. Anyone will enjoy it. But it also indicates a general state of uncreativeness. Food is very good and the rest is not bad. But it is far from being a game changing establishment.
