I can not speak to food or the place itself but I do want to register my concern about the reservatio system. We had a confirmed Rezzy reservation for a special occasion that involved a lot of coordination among our group and enough travel to make the fact that the restaurant was closed for a private affair that much more disappointing and infuriating. The host at the door was incredibly kind and helpful; they enabled us to change a Resy from 2 to 3 people and settled us at the bar to await a friend. Our friend arrived and we got seated and waited, and waited, and waited... service just brutal, about 15 minute wait to be acknowledged and order drinks, and an hour before food arrived (and we had a show at Bowery to get to). Would have totally ordered another round of drinks if the server appeared at any time after we ordered dinner (the person who delivered dishes couldn't take order), but that didn't happen until we were there 90 minutes and feeling late for show. Insofar as the food, the Brussels sprouts appetizer was a highlight--tasty in a rice wine sauce. And my baby gem Caesar had good flavor, but they forgot the optional anchovies which I requested be included. My companions got burgers which were fine if unremarkable. Fries were undercooked--oh, and they dropped quite a few delivering one burger--they were apologetic and said they'd bring us an extra side, but that never materialized. Realllllllly cute spot. I've been seeing this place all over ig so I had to give it a go and decided to do so on my bday! I went with a couple of my friends and was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is super young and hip but not like Hotel Chantelle or DL. This crowd seemed cool but not annoying. Got the fried chicken and the cauliflower steak. The fried chicken was honesty really good, one of the better ones I've had in the city. I would rate it as better than sweet chick, which many people rave about. The white meat is super moist and the skin is crispy and feels a little fatty when you get to the layer that's touching the meat. The cauliflower was a dish I don't normally get, but wanted something different. It looks meh since it was just on a bed of farro (I guess there's an egg on top but everyone does it these days). What stood out was the sauce that the farro was resting on...that acidity really helped give the dish life. Taking an otherwise boring dish and really gave it a punch. My thing about this place....it's expensive (those two dishes was over $50) and our cauliflower came out cold...when asked the waiter "hey is this normally a cold dish", he really brushed it off and didn't try to correct it. A 70s-themed bar seemed like a pretty groovy (sorry, had to) place to spend a Thursday night. The Flower Shop piqued my interest from its rave reviews and interior decor. We were able to walk in and snag an indoor table quite easily. Having perused the menu the night before, I was pretty set on having the buttermilk fried chicken. My friend ended up getting the Bucatini with meatballs. The buttermilk chicken was fan-freaking-tastic. Crispy on the outside, juicy and tasty on the inside. It came with some spicy honey but honestly I just wanted to enjoy the magic of the chicken on its own. My friend really enjoyed his Bucatini as well, and couldn't even finish it due to the generous portion. They have a very small cocktail menu (I think consisting of only 4 drinks) and a pretty limited beer menu as well. I tried the Pirate Rose and the Spanky which were both very tangy in taste. These didn't seem like they were worth 13-14 dollars each, as they were on the simpler side. It's probably best sticking to beer or cider here. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. It did get very busy towards the end of our stay so naturally she had more patrons to tend to but nevertheless we didn't have any issues finding her. When we got ready to leave, the tables started freeing up and the bar started getting PACKED. It was strange but nice seeing a crowded bar again. 4.5 rounded to a 5. I became hip to this too-cool-for-school bar when they first opened, when everyone who was somebody could be found here on a weekend night. Don't worry though, it's not the sort of place where the bouncer or other revelers size you up and judge you on whether you belong. Every Friday night I've been here has been a game of finding a place to stand that doesn't block a pathway or doesn't get you jostled back and forth from the steady stream of people playing the same game. Still, the ambience can't be beat and next time I'd make it a point to come with a group earlier in the night, should I get the chance to party here again. At $13 a pop, cocktails are surprisingly reasonably priced for a hip Manhattan bar where most wouldn't blink at a $17 price tag. The mint & roses appealed to me in 'The Pirate Rose' but I ordered mine with tequila instead of vodka which the bartender happily obliged. They also make a mean Old Fashioned. I think what makes this place so appealing are the old Americana vibes. The multi-floored space is decked out in wood paneled walls, floral print booth seating, and kitschy mismatched framed photos that all make you feel like you've walked into a living room in middle America in the 60's. A chill spot to grab a drink and chat, read a book and have a dinner. Service - be waiter was there when you needed and offered suggestions for your meal. Nothing negative. Food - just OK. Like I said, it wasn't bad but nothing stood out for me. I ended up ordering the appetizer of the golden beets that is accompanied with burrata. It was very addicting with the citrus sauce that was a part of it. Healthy app option! For my main, I got the burger. It comes out very classic with its regular straight cut French fries and a sesame bunned burger. The burger itself was juicy and the cheddar cheese was a good choice. BASEMENT! Don't forget to check out the cool bachelor pad basement! You'll find a cool pool table and a carpeted area to a small bar with stools and tv. This new spot is tough to google, but it has a really cool atmosphere and some solid food. Probably more with a focus on the drinks and the bar (the bar was completely full with only one other table taken), they have a short menu of just a few appetizers and main dishes, and just an option of French Fries for a side and a Alanna Cotta for dessert. The starters were great, and were the highlight over the mains. We tried the Beef Tartare ($16), which came with some crunchy potato chips for scooping, and the Marinated Beets ($13), with chunks of blue cheese and pistachios and pears, making for an excellent bite. Moving on, the Fried Chicken ($21) was pretty solid, but came with just a curry sauce and instead could have really benefited from some kind of side. The Burger ($16) was also pretty solid and came with the excellent, salty fries. There's also actually an entire lower level, which is really cool. It's slightly brighter and there's a pool table and a really nice area with a TV. Seems like they're still tweaking the menu, so it might be fun to return to try some different stuff down there. read more
