I have seen the truck for a while, just hadn't had the chance to stop in yet. Until today, now I'm madd I didn't stop sooner! We ordered the Bakersfield Picante noodles and the Hibachi Shrimp. Now some of the reviews on here are claiming small portion size. Well let me set that record straight. The bag was so heavy I almost dropped them when he handed it to me. Now to the food. I'm going to start with the rice and move my was up. First. Wow. It's really nice to have someone who really knows how to make fried rice. Moist without being greasy flavorful and plentiful! Next came the veggies, a great mix of carrots, zucchini , bell Peppers and onions. Cooked and crisp at the same time. Perfectly seasoned and not mushy. I was impressed.... Moving up the ladder of delish I had the picante noodles... and I must say.. simply amazing. Soft to the bite and perfectly chewy. Covered in a picante sauce ( hence the name) that was just short of sublime. Now. The star of the show. The shrimp and scallops. Cooked to perfection and PLENTIFUL! there was as much protein as there was veggies...It was amazing. We had the Hibachi shrimp as well... everything I just said about the Picante noodles... goes for the Hibachi. I wanted to give this business the benefit of the doubt, but my experience left me feeling frustrated and uncomfortable. During my visit, I ordered only a drink. The employee/owner was very friendly and engaged me in conversation while processing my payment. Because of the ongoing conversation, I didn't immediately review my receipt. Later, when I checked the receipt, I discovered that I had been charged for an item that I did not order. The charge was significantly higher than what I expected to pay based on my actual purchase. What bothered me most was not the dollar amount itself, but the fact that the receipt did not match what I requested. Customers should never have to worry about being charged for items they didn't order, and I would strongly encourage anyone visiting to carefully review their receipt before leaving. I can't speak for everyone else's experience, but based on mine, I left feeling disappointed and hesitant to return. Transparency and accuracy are basic expectations when paying for a meal, and unfortunately that was not my experience here. read more

Seriously? A seafood heavy truck in Bakersfield that rolls around the breweries? Was so happy to meet the Navy Vet that started it all. I've only tried the scallops and shrimp meal but it comes out piping hot with noodles, rice and a veg which I believe was squash on this night. I loved talking to the owner, took some pics as the biz is brand new and memorized the lobster dish. That will be my next order. Not a cheap meal but seafood is not inexpensive. Worth it. Do not remember the last time I had teppanyaki and was super excited to try them. It was our first time at trivia night at 2nd Phase and will keep coming back. There are plenty of options to choose from and for the first time I wanted to try steak and shrimp. The shrimp were perfectly tender and with a touch of the spicy Mayo heavenly. The steak was tender as well and found it best with an onion or too. Really appreciate that the vegetables were not mushy and over cooked, they still had some bite in them. The fried rice was well seasoned and a great sponge for the steak juices (only complaint is it did not have bacon). Not only is the food great but the service was fast and super friendly. Been wanting to try them out and saw they were set up at one of the breweries so went for lunch. Friendly customer service, smelled amazing, menu very clear and not jumbled with too many or few options. Paid with card and wasn't given opportunity to tip when it was ran so felt bad (didn't have any cash). Now on to the food review... Shared a steak and shrimp combo plate with an add on order of chicken. I was told shrimp had amazing flavor and 2 thumbs up (I don't eat shrimp), steak was tender with light flavor, personally I prefer more but with the sauces it was much better, chicken was tasty. The ginger sauce for the shrimp was and we were given a Sriracha aiolo type of sauce that was 1000% bomb. Very disappointed. Paid $15 a plate for this. Meat was over cooked and rice was not cooked all the way through or burned. Literally got 7 little pieces of meat and about a 1/3 cup of fried rice. I was especially disappointed at the fact that when I ordered the food containers they were using were a larger size and by the time I got my food, which took about 30min, they started using smaller containers but did not adjust their prices. It's nice to have a high quality specialty truck in the Bakersfield area. A little bit of something for everyone on the menu. I got the teriyaki steak and my wife did the chicken bowl. TLDR; The owner scammed me by charging me for a meal I did not order and told the person after me that their food was "on the house." I would advise avoiding this business at all cost and please remember to always ask for receipt and double check that your order is correct. Full story: This food truck parked outside my work and my friend and I decided to go check it out during our lunch break. We were approached by the owner. He seemed friendly and inviting, asking us how we were doing and what we were wanting to order. We said we were unsure and mostly just there to see if his food was what we were in the mood for. We joked with the owner about the lobster he had on his menu and giggled about how broke my friend and I are and wished we could afford it. I had eaten plenty earlier in the day, but I definitely knew I would be ordering something to drink. Though unconvinced by the menu, the owner talked my friend into trying out the chicken teriyaki bowl. I decided to buy a bottle of mineral water for myself. I had my credit card in hand already so I went to pay first. I asked the owner, "how much?" and he ignored me by pretending to be distracted by his screen and then made small talk about his locations in LA. He then proceeded to talk about his unfocused menu options and how they're "Japanese inspired." As someone who lived in Japan as an exchange student I can assure you this business' aesthetic did not bring up any nostalgic memories of Japanese cuisine. The owner charged my card and then prepared my receipt in a very strategic/calculated way. He folded it slowly and precisely into 3 folds with the info from the bottom of the receipt being the top fold. In the moment, I was so distracted by the ongoing small talk that I didn't think to check my receipt. I took my receipt and shoved it into my pocket, as I often do. My friend received her food and asked how much it would be. The owner said, "This is on the house! Go ahead and try us out and let us know how we did...Enjoy!" My friend and I were elated and thanked the owner for his kind deed. We left the food truck feeling like it was a lucky day and blessed for the money saved and free food my friend received. It was almost time to clock back into work, so we got up and started to head back inside. I felt inside my pocket and remembered the receipt I had from my purchase. I thought to myself, "Ahhh let me just toss this into the trash bin on my way in, but hey let me see how much that mineral water was!" I look at my receipt and see a grand total for $10.83. I first think, "whoa that was an EXPENSIVE water bottle!" And then I see the items on my receipt and noticed that the first charge was for a chicken teriyaki bowl. I immediately show my friend the charge and we both grew dumbfounded. We knew in that moment this charge was not a mistake. Due to the fact that the owner's demeanor came off calm and unaffected tells me he has done this before. As for the food, my friend commented that it was subpar at best. There was pineapple in the dish, something undisclosed on the menu, and this ingredient (the way its utilized by this restaurant) brought an overwhelmingly obscure tanginess to the dish that was unnecessary--since teriyaki already has a natural umami flavored element. The rice was tough and the chicken was tougher. In the end, she was glad she got this meal for free. The chintzy portion size also didn't help the cause. I can't help but wonder, what if this unauthorized charge was my Iast $10? Which, I have definitely been there before and the anxiety caused by lack of finances is frightening. I was willing to support a veteran-run business at first, but for a former vet to pull off something this deceitful is a JOKE. For him to carry on this gesture after we shared with him that we were trying to be frugal with our minimum wage earnings is just atrocious. I hope the money this business stole from me was worth the amount of customers that I hope this review may turn away. Take your business elsewhere. read more

The truck was nearby and I was excited with the smell coming out. Ended up ordering the Teriyaki Steak and the service was good. Now based on the food, when I opened it up, it was a visual disappointment. For the price to the amount of food received, I don't think it's worth it. Maybe the quality is good?? The steak was decent, but the sauce was the star of the meal. Rice and veggies had no flavor. Even though you can see the seasoning, there was not much going on. Wow- so delicious! My husband does not usually do food trucks but we saw this one and gave it a try- so glad we did! Had a teriyaki chicken bowl and it was perfect- chicken breast meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the veggies were crisp- squash red, green and yellow bell peppers and carrots. I don't know if the cook was just different or something....but the steak was stew-meat quality cuts, with gristle and basically flavorless and overdone. Not sure what that rice was but it was not egg fried rice. It had a wierd prepackaged beef taste. The veggies were grilled with bell peppers which threw the whole palette off and gave them a fajitas type flavor. Quantity of the rice and veggies wasnt much either. Nowhere near worth the $26+ per plate. I could make better food at home for half the price or pay a little bit more and sit down in air conditioning and get the show.
