    Tepan Yaki dining
    Carolyn P.

I had such a lovely dining experience this evening at Mikado. Priscilla, my server, was outstanding, so pleasant and very attentive in customer service. I came early before the rush and had an engaging conversation with Priscilla. Shout out to John, one of the owners who was working tonight as well. I was chilly when I entered the restaurant and the Miso soup & hot Sake warmed me right up. I ordered the Dragon roll which has avocado, crab and shrimp tempura inside with grilled eel outside, soooo delicious. I also had the yellowtail lover roll, yellowtail inside & out, it was Scrumptious! The seafood was so fresh and tasty. Pleasant romantic soft rock plays in the background. The lighting was soft it had a pleasing Asian decor. On the weekends you can count on it being fairly loud and very busy. They have 2 Tepan Yaki rooms for your dining pleasure as well. If you are looking for a fun and interesting date night, a meal at one of the Tepan tables is a great experience! I highly recommend Mikado!

Rice and veggies (steak and shrimp not pictured) large amazing portions!

I called to make a reservation for 5 people. The person who answered was very nice and put us down for 6:45pm. When we arrived the table was ready for us and good to go. My husband, 2 year old, myself and another couple went for dinner. The chef was wonderful. He treated us great and didn't over oil the food. The portions were great. We took half our food home for the next day. All of us got the same plate (New York steak & shrimp tepan). Meat was cooked perfectly and the shrimp was juicy. The chef took our daughter into consideration when cooking and didn't do large fires to scare her. That was a plus for us and very caring. We will be returning.

Love coming to eat various foods... Keppa is great option as a group. Or just order appetizers and rolls. My favorite is the dragon roll with tempura.

This is what happens when you leave an honest review. Anyone else's character attacked for not enjoying their visit?

Received a message on behalf of Mikado and could not believe their response. I stand by my review, the food was sub-par and my RARE steak was tough and had bone fragments in it. It's one thing for an organization to disagree with your opinion of their business, but to comment on the character of those that patron your establishment is a bigger disappointment than your attempt at Hibachi. You John are the problem.

Very kind service! Bomb spicy tuna. Edamame had a nice char flavor, I added some siriacha to it for an extra kick! Happy this palace remained a sushi/teppan place.

It was fine but the food lacked seasoning and I'm pretty sure we got the chef with least personality.

We had dinner here and it was both of our first-time. I really hate that I have to give this place a 4 but it's because the spicy edamame was not to my liking and they do not carry pineapple soju. The food is definitely a must try, especially the beautiful yellowtail sashimi. The seafood yakisoba was so delicious. I did not care much for the baked salmon roll, Love Sushi takes first place for that roll and Prime Sushi take first place for spicy edamame. The crazy tuna roll I ordered was so big! The crunchy pieces on top can stand to sit in some absorbing paper towels because they were a bit oily but went well with the Tuna dance. I personally did not care for the bluefin tuna. Overall my babe and I enjoyed our dinner and will most definitely return for more.

One thing I noticed was the mix of different tables and chairs throughout the restaurant. It almost feels like a hodgepodge of furniture, but somehow it works and fits the contemporary vibe rather than feeling out of place. The food was excellent, the service was friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. We received our food surprisingly fast, which was a nice bonus. There was a mistake with one of our rolls, but the staff handled it well. They quickly remade the roll and brought us a replacement at no charge, which I really appreciated. One of the highlights was a custom roll with jalapeño, avocado, and asparagus. I added cream cheese and had it deep fried, and it honestly tasted like a sushi version of a jalapeño popper. It was absolutely amazing and something I would order again in a heartbeat. Overall, it was a great experience from start to finish. Good food, good service, reasonable prices, and a unique atmosphere. I would definitely recommend giving Kuma Sushi a try.

The parking is a bit of a challenge right now due to the construction in downtown. However, there is a lot right next to them that you can park in and there is also parking on the street directly in front of their door. The restaurant is modern and decorated in Asian theme. The bathroom and the restaurant is very clean. And the staff was very attentive, professional, and very pleasant. I enjoyed the food I ordered via DoorDash, but this time I got it fresh right out of the kitchen and the counter, and it was amazing. We started with the jalapeño bomb, and mixed tempura in a size small. Both those appetizers were delicious and perfect for sharing. Then we ordered a California roll on soy paper, the Kuma special sushi roll, and the creamy salmon roll. Everything was fresh and very shareable. We could've easily shared our meal with two other people needless to say we had leftovers to take home. I definitely recommend this place and I look forward to going back. There are other things on the menu such as fried rice, udon, and teriyaki plates. They also had a couple of desserts, so I am definitely planning on trying one of those. Enjoy!

These are fried octopus balls with a delicate crispy shell and a creamy interior with perfectly cooked octopus. They are garnished with kewpie mayonnaise and eel sauce with delicate shaved fish dancing on top. This is the only place in town for takoyaki and it is exactly like takoyaki in Japan. This time we opted for the salmon rolls which have pillow soft steamed buns, perfectly cooked moist salmon, eel sauce, and sweet slivered carrot. They are light and delicious with an order of two making a wonderful appetizer for the both of us. My husband ordered the Bulgoji bowl with savory and tender beef atop sticky rice. It is beautifully seasoned and not spicy which I love because I can actually enjoy it. In general bulgoji is too spicy for me so this is a wonderful discovery. My choice of chicken Ramen was also a win as the broth is rich and savory and the noodles have a great firm bite. The bowl is dressed with rich and tender chicken thigh, a fish cake, broccoli, spring onion, slivered carrot, and a marinated soft boiled egg. Food and service are phenomenal...Hon Ramen is THE place to go in Bakersfield. The sushi here is also top notch and prepared by the owner. Once a year he returns to Japan to visit family so for that period sushi is not available. Everything we have ever tried here has been a feast for the eyes and the tastebuds.

Instead, I'm paying premium prices to sit under fluorescent lights and question my life choices. The "Combo" Math that Isn't Mathing Then there's the pricing logic--or lack thereof. Why does a chicken and steak combo cost 20% more than the steak plate alone? * Standard Logic: A combo price should land somewhere between the cost of the chicken and the steak. * Kyoto Logic: "Since you want both, we're going to tax your indecisiveness." Either they have zero respect for their customers, or they're catastrophically bad at math. I'm betting on the latter. Honestly, I could buy a Blackstone grill for the cost of three or four visits to this place. The "Service" (If You Can Call It That) To top it off, the customer service is abysmal.
