So glad I tried this place out! Located in the old Akira's building, is a trip down memory lane! We had a little wait before we were seated but not too long. The hostess was so friendly and routinely stopped by for refills and to check if we needed anything. The Teppan chef was amazing, he was super friendly, made lots of fun jokes and did a wonderful show for our table while cooking super delicious portions! My husband and I both ordered the steak and shrimp teppan and it came with miso soup, a ginger dressed salad, a huge mound of delicious fried rice, bean sprouts (my fave!), grilled veggies, our protein of choice, and a scoop of yummy ice cream. The portions are huge so come super hungry or be prepared to take home leftovers! I stopped by this restaurant for a birthday party on a Wednesday evening. To my surprise it was completely empty when we arrived at 7 o'clock. We were greeted by a wonderful waitress who was very friendly very accommodating and went above and beyond to make sure that we were completely satisfied with our experience. The food overall was good unfortunately my combination fried rice was definitely lacking flavor. The portion sizes were OK but I have received much larger portions for a cheaper price at other restaurants. The hibachi chef definitely put on a good show, all the Teppanyaki was cooked to perfection and my family was fully satisfied with the performance. So overall good experience but the food was definitely nothing to brag about definitely lacking flavor. read more

I had such a lovely dining experience this evening at Mikado. Priscilla, my server, was outstanding, so pleasant and very attentive in customer service. I came early before the rush and had an engaging conversation with Priscilla. Shout out to John, one of the owners who was working tonight as well. I was chilly when I entered the restaurant and the Miso soup & hot Sake warmed me right up. I ordered the Dragon roll which has avocado, crab and shrimp tempura inside with grilled eel outside, soooo delicious. I also had the yellowtail lover roll, yellowtail inside & out, it was Scrumptious! The seafood was so fresh and tasty. Pleasant romantic soft rock plays in the background. The lighting was soft it had a pleasing Asian decor. On the weekends you can count on it being fairly loud and very busy. They have 2 Tepan Yaki rooms for your dining pleasure as well. Discussing sushi that smells rotten. I brought it to the waitress attention and she offered to take it away and then refused to take it off the bill. The soy sauce bottles stink, too high heaven and smell rotted as if they don't wash them and they just refill them. I showed it to her to smell and she told me I was wrong. It smells rotten & stuck. Even my daughter agrees it. Stinks. The waitress then gives us the bill to pay. Didn't even offer to take it off the bill. I guess she's calling me a liar. I am more concerned about money. I called to make a reservation for 5 people. The person who answered was very nice and put us down for 6:45pm. When we arrived the table was ready for us and good to go. My husband, 2 year old, myself and another couple went for dinner. The chef was wonderful. He treated us great and didn't over oil the food. The portions were great. We took half our food home for the next day. All of us got the same plate (New York steak & shrimp tepan). Meat was cooked perfectly and the shrimp was juicy. The chef took our daughter into consideration when cooking and didn't do large fires to scare her. That was a plus for us and very caring. We will be returning. read more

I have thought Akira was the best teppan yaki/sushi place I have ever been to anywhere. I loved the fluffy rice, the spot on flavors and the perfectly rolled sushi every time. Their potstickers were the best also. Our dining group decided to try Mikados who have taken over this spot. The rice was good but was not as fluffy and no sesame seeds. My entree was delicious , tender and flavorfull fillet mignon. The vegetables also were very flavorful and delicious. I ordered the potstickers (gyoza) and they were excellent also. The soup, salad and dessert were just the same and good. No sauce was offered either which I really enjoyed. Our chef was skillful and very personable. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful. New restaurant at a previous Teppan/Sushi place. I know they just opened but feel that they still have the training wheels on. We dined in the Teppan section. Most the food was just ok and lacked any taste identity. Fried rice was plain and the rice itself was too fluffy. Waitress told us what vegetables were served with the meal and then we were served a different kind altogether. At least the proteins we're cooked and tasted proper as well as the traditional miso soup. I would give this place another chance in a few months but I shouldn't feel like I'm a test diner. read more

Food tasted VERY similar to Akiras, so I'm a happy camper! Our server Andrew was fantastic. His vibe was soooo welcomed and he was on top of it! I ordered the shrimp teppan and my husband got steak and shrimp. Shrimp was a bit overcooked. We also got the garlic edamame and was disappointed because they char it and it just tasted "burnt" to me. The rice was bomb and I really dig that broccoli is part of the mixed veggies. DOES IT COMPARE TO AKIRA TEPPAN??? I would say pretty darn close! Yes it is not the same restaurant so of course it will not be exactly the same, so I wouldn't go there with the same expectations until you TRY IT YOURSELF. In my opinion I COULDN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE but I didn't go that frequently to know exactly how everything tasted, service, etc. I did go there enough that it was the only teppan place I would go to in town. Still get the SAME COURSES. You get your miso soup, salad, choice of protein(s), fried rice, assorted veggies (the most obvious difference but not much), then end with ice cream. Prices seem fair but didn't hold on the receipt and compare to other places in town. Went for a birthday dinner on Friday, October 28 of 7 people so we had a whole table to ourselves. We had the head chef, JAY. He was INCREDIBLE! I would 1000% RECOMMEND HIM IF POSSIBLE. I been to a lot of these teppan shows in general (in and out of town) and his show was a breath of fresh air. Very nice, funny, and made sure we where all good with our food. The only down I had was our waitress but she was training (this was disclosed at the beginning of dinner when she introduced herself) and it looked like she was handling the whole teppan section and wasn't consistent on getting us refills on drinks when we where low (without us asking). Which I was a server (at a different restaurant) it just takes practice to get it all down. So I can't fault on that, we did get refills. Overall, I would come back. I was skeptical about trying it since other reviews where mixed but It's easier to write a review for bad experiences than the good. So I knew I NEEDED to write a review for this restaurant since they NEED to be busier. The only reason I give this place a 3 is because it's a Friday night so me and my friend order something simple to eat and go right so we ordered soju with our order at 7:40 and 10 minutes later they give us our bill. They apparently close at 9 they were turning everything off at 8 and I asked what time do you guys close the guy said "oh don't worry we close at 9 it's just a slow night" and turning even the lights off, we just felt super rushed to leave so I downed the Soju and left...other than that the Vegas roll was pretty good. read more

Stay away! This place serves sushi that's out of date. How gross. When I brought it to the waitresses attention it seems like she could care less! She just picked up the plates and threw our food in the trash but made sure to charge full price for everything without even asking us if we wanted another one or exchanged! Didn't even offer to remove it from the bill or replace the order. The owner or manager eventually came out and had zero resolution to the problem. I honestly don't know why he even came to the table if he didn't know how to fix the issue. They could've taken it off of the bill either, but they would rather still charge the $10 w/ how frustrating it was an it made me upset as a customer will never come back and I do not recommend anyone come here either. Feel like I Got food poisoning after eating here to top it off. Will be reporting it to local health department. On another note, I saw a what it seem to be a roach run under our table too but by that time I didn't bother tell the waitress bc she hardly came to the table to check on us anyways besides the above issue & I felt as if she could care less anyway base of the situation with the out date sushi. Worse experience. Recently visited to celebrate my son's birthday. The waitress was horrible. She had our order all wrong. The chef was even upset and he even said to her in front of our party of 11 "I don't like you". So. Is the staff is unprofessional in front of customers. The soup had ZERO flavor. I ordered filet mignon and everyone ordered steak, they gave me steak instead and thought I wouldn't notice. Everyone steak was made damn near well done. My son wanted extra rice, waitress said it is an extra $10 even though the menu said "side order of rice $1.00" We requested an extra plate to share with our 1 year old niece , waitress said "an empty plate is $5 since you are sharing" she is only 1 year old. Chicken was super dry, we didn't finish it. My son said "we should of just went to panda" Never will I visit this place again. read more

Since we live very near, I have been telling my daughter that we will have to try dining here. We decided to come in for a weekend lunch but since it is just the two of us, we just ordered from the regular menu instead of the teppan. We came in when the restaurant was empty and we were quite surprised as it was a little bit past lunch time. The one who served us was very nice and friendly, she kept checking on us and making sure we were enjoying our meal. We ordered two different rice meals since we were hungry (we usually share!). My daughter got the donkatsu and I got the beef teriyaki. I found both the meats quite hard and not really that seasoned to my liking. As an Asian mom who mostly eats home-cooked meals, I probably was expecting a bit more, given that both meals cost us more than $30. I am still willing to give this place a try, maybe going for teppan next time if we have family or friends coming over. read more

When we entered the store we were ignored, it wasn't that they were busy or didn't see us the women who was seating people looked me right in my eyes and then helped the person BEHIND us. But looking past that we were there for pick up and once we finally just walked up to a member of their team she said she didn't see our order and then said she would get her boss. I stopped in here alone before a movie at AMC. It was mostly empty. I sat at the sushi bar. The waitress was promptly with me handing me a menu and fetching a drink. Quite possibly one of the worst sushi restaurants in town. Service was slow but I don't blame the server because there was only one covering the entire restaurant. We didn't even get water till 15mins after being seated. However the food was a complete disappointment. We ordered three sushi rolls and a yakisoba noodle with shrimp. First of all the rolls tasted like it came from a Chinese buffet. Secondly, the rolls didn't even remotely match the picture on the menu. Lastly the noodles tasted and looked like they have been sitting under a heat lamp for hours! Never again will I come back to try anything else. read more

With this experience it was really bad when it came to service. There was so many servers just talking in the back kitchen while we were waiting to eat. We waited 20 to 30 mins to just eat because they was only one chef. Chef did amazing , considering he had to serve 24+ people at one time! On top of that, He said he was doing that all week. Tried this spot for the first time and we were not disappointed. Authentic and delicious, and service was wonderful. Our chef gave a great show and was super personable, as well as the waitress being very attentive. The manager came over and visited with us for a bit which made us feel like we were regulars and old friends. I came in here Saturday. Server told me they've been open a week. I always wanna show support for our local restaurants. So I had to try this place. Ordered the teppan steak with fried rice. I always try to stay away from bashing the service. Server and the teppanyaki chef where very very nice. I know they are trying very hard. Thats why i give them 3 stars, but the food its just not quite there yet. I will return and hopefully they keep getting better. read more
