I found this place on yelp, noticed the $50 for your first visit for a 50 minute massage, and saw that the reviews weren't terrible. So I looked online for their availability, and saw there was an opening in an hour. Perfect. I call to schedule my massage and mention the deal on yelp. They acted like they had no clue what this deal was. The receptionist said she would have to call me back. 10 minutes later, she calls and says they've never offered 50% off. Again, I stated the deal was for a $50 50 minute massage. She said she could give me another deal (not as good) so I said they need to remove their yelp deal if they were not going to honor it, then said thank you and goodbye. She said wait, we will honor it. Then she said the only time they had available was 6 pm. I said I couldn't make that time, thanks anyway. Then she said wait, we have 2:30 (as I saw online.) So they made it work for me, but it wasn't easy. As I was leaving, she then brought up the fact that they accommodated me and had to "move some things around for my requests." I was simply asking for what they were advertising. The massage was average, they didn't overly focus on my problem area like I asked for, but I could have been more vocal. I cannot recommend The Therapy House enough. I have received a lot of massage as it's my coping mechanism for stress. (Having previously worked in a massage therapy clinic had its benefits!) So when I moved to Kansas City I tried to find a massage therapy center I liked. I probably went to 8 different places receiving okay-but-not-great massages before finding The Therapy House on a last-minute Groupon. It was my lucky day. I have been a regular client coming monthly or more for three+ years. Billy is fantastic. He has a very firm touch and seems to just have a knack for knowing where the knots are & how to make me feel better. I love the heated neck pillow. I am never more relaxed than after an appointment with The Therapy House. I couldn't recommend the place more. I'm excited to see the new location! read more

My daughter and I booked a spa day here for her birthday and got facials and hand/shoulder massage. Janee was amazing! During my facial/massage I actually fell asleep I was so relaxed. Janee took the time to really look at our faces and determine any problem areas. She explained what she was putting on our faces and what it did. Our faces look so good and feel amazing. I bought a full price 80 minute massage last week and here was my experience in a nutshell: *The massage lasted 65 minutes, not 80 *The "platinum" masseuse did not listen to any of my preferences (I said only back and shoulders, and deep tissue) *Despite requesting deep tissue via email, on my handwritten paperwork, and multiple times during the massage, I was never given any deep tissue work during the session *The majority of the session focused on petting my arms and hands, and her instructing me to "imagine I'm painting you" as she petted me lightly. *The massage was not even as intense as a Swedish massage should be. *At the end of the session I expressed strong dissatisfaction and was told that nothing could be done but that a manager would call me the next day. It has now been five days, and nothing. Do not use this company. Terrible customer service, terrible massage. read more

This was the most ridiculous excuse for a massage I've ever had. My sister bought me a package here, I was optimistic however trying to find this place that's nearly out back of a shopping center next to a very "low rent" cleaning service. They charge for bottles water and juice. The " therapist" and front desk person were chatting about lunch with a guy that was clearly not there for a massage. The banter was not " spa appropriate". My therapist made me feel uneasy about stories of giving inappropriate massages at nude parties. She also commented on how dry my feet were - yes I needed pampering duh! And refused to rub them making me feel bad that I had not directly gotten a pedicure before comming, as I had one later that day never dreamed there would be an issue. I have pain in my left hip and she was unable to adjust her " rocking" technique and continue the massage. There was no oils uses and instead I was rubbed exclusively with a scent less body butter. At no time was I relaxed. The heat of the booties and the table had me sweating and uncomfortable. She did attempt to adjust the temp however said she has to only guess at what it would be and left it at that, later she unplugged it about 10 minutes before the end of the session. The personal details of her life and experience with massage made me woefully uncomfortable from the get. The things she shared are reasons people lose their liscense . I felt cheated by this terrible experience and was made to feel uncomfortable, I wish I would have stopped before undressing and asked for a different therapist that could be more professional, adaptive, responsive and able to provide an actual relaxing experience. Wonderful! I rarely write reviews. But, I really wanted to share my experience. This is only the second massage I've had in my life. The first one was many years ago and a very unpleasant experience. Not a very comfortable experience, and I was in pain for at least a day or two afterwards. So, I was a bit leery after I received a gift certificate for a massage at The Therapy House. Although the location doesn't face Metcalf directly, it's easy to find. And when you step inside, you are greeted with a most relaxing ambience, right from the start. The front desk attendant was very helpful. They were already expecting me and I had a very short wait. The room where the massage was performed, was comfortably lit, with soft music and a very comfortable environment. Melody was my masseuse. I don't know how long she's been doing it, but she certainly knows what she's doing. Unlike the previous massage, she was explaining a lot about what she was doing. I did not feel the pain that I felt with my last experience. This was a very calming and comforting experience. And, after I left, and for the rest of the day, I felt so good. I highly recommend the therapy house. And, I will definitely be back. I'm glad that I gave it a shot. read more

Had great massage from Megan, were able to work me in at the last minute. Rooms are very clean, and well appointed, with nice decorations and extremely calming atmosphere. All employees are very nice. The add on for deep tissue was well worth it, but the hot stones were not. They just rested there, were not used as massage "tools". They took them off my bill since I said I did not really feel them. That was very nice. They sell Doterra oils here as well, I have started using those as well. As far as the massages go...Billy does an excellent job if you somehow decide to try this place...but if you look at the comments you can see it is poorly run and there will be issues. I actually have been 3 or 4 times and did a couples massage. Billy did all of them...like I said he was awesome. But when I booked an appointment that I could not make...not only did no one answer the phone but the voicemail box was full so I couldn't leave a message to cancel. So I found an email address online thinking that surely they check that...apparently they don't...they charged me anyway, even when I said in my email that I would reschedule..So being a returning customer means nothing. They would rather have their $45 'fee' than to see a repeat customer return. I emailed again and asked them to refund the money...because I really did want to reschedule...but have had no replies. I will probably do a charge back for no services rendered but be aware...they do not have good business practices, which shows in how they treat their customers. read more

I purchased a groupon for a $75 "75 minute pamper package". At the end of the massage, the lady walks me to the front desk to check out. I said, don't I get a package, not just the massage? I was handed chocolates. I went to my car to look it up on my phone and confirmed that they'd only given me the $49 "Quick Getaway" package. I went back in and told them. they said, 'oops our mistake' and told me I'd have to come back later in the day for additional services. I said I don't have time. They tell me that they will give me a store credit toward future service. Isn't that a type of bait and switch? I'm not going to return and spend more money because you screwed up! At the time the manager was getting a massage and they told me I'd get a call later. 5 days later they've never called. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! Obviously not too concerned with taking care of people. I bought the deluxe package on Groupon. I thought it sounded awesome... Ugggg was I wrong. The place had a musty feel and smell to it. The heated neck piece (not sure what it's called) was kept in a warming container. When the therapist got done with it she put it right back in... no washing in between. I guess that's why it smelled so horrible. My deluxe package was to include a "full-body exfoliation" this consisted of a small exfoliating pad with a strap they could slide their hand into. The therapist spent about 11/2 minutes swiping over my body. The "Full-body body-butter rundown" consisted of a quick application of lotion. My experience at The Therapy House was terrible. I arrived 15 minutes early and spent 10 minutes waiting for the receptionist to wrap up her personal (not business) phone call to assist me. I purchased a living social deal at a discount; however, I received none of the things offered: no mint tea, no chocolates or aromatherapy. The parking was non-existent and I realized later that the staff had parked in the limited parking spaces in front of the building. The massage itself was okay but couldn't make up for all the other negatives. This place is a dump. I would much rather pay full price somewhere else than pay half price here. read more

I recently had a massage with Buddy which I thought was an excellent massage. My husband bought it for me with Groupon, and it came with a full-body exfoliation and body butter. On Groupon, it was priced for $172 with a Groupon discount price of around $70. I don't know why they priced it so high because it was little more than a massage. I was given a light exfoliation of my arms and legs with a brush, and that was it. That being said, the massage was excellent, but I cannot believe that they are trying to value it at $175. My other complaint was with the receptionist. I guess I had the time wrong and I arrived around five minutes late. She was not welcoming, rude even. I have never been to a spa with a rude receptionist. They set the tone for the place. She brought up my late arrival (five minutes) repeatedly in the two minutes that I was in the front area. While I greatly enjoyed my massage with Buddy, I do not plan on returning. read more

I have never given a bad review, but unfortunately, I had the worst experience with a business in my life when going to The Therapy House for a massage. Before I purchased the Groupon, I called to ask if I could do a hot stone massage add-on to the package. She told me yes, and said I would just need to pay $20.00 extra at my appointment which I was fine with. When I arrived for my appointment, the receptionist tried to get me to pay before I went back for my massage, and I asked if I could pay afterward so I could add a tip on to the credit card receipt. She said that was fine, then asked the massage therapist if she had the hot stones ready for my massage. She replied yes. My massage started 10 minutes late even though I was 15 minutes early. She also ended it 5 minutes before she was supposed to, so I only got a 45 minute massage even though I paid for a 50 minute massage. On top of that, and worst of all, she did not give me a hot stone massage! I kept waiting and waiting for her to begin with the hot stones, and she never did! I was furious, because the only reason I went to The Therapy House to begin with was because I wanted the hot-stone add-on! After my massage, I went out and explained to the receptionist that I did not receive what I was supposed to receive and that she never used the hot stones. All she did was say "Oh, sorry, I even reminded her to use them, I don't know why she didn't. I guess I won't charge you for it if you didn't get it." It was all said in a rude way, and I couldn't believe that was all that was going to be done. She dismissed me and went back to her work at the desk, and I was still so confused because I purchased a massage package that was supposed to include a luxurious experience including fruit tea and chocolates. I asked her "Is there anything else involved in my package??" She replied "no, you've already paid, you don't need to do anything else." I clarified that I meant there was supposed to be more to my package and she said "Oh yeah, you got the Getaway Package, here ya go" and handed me a baggy with three chocolates in it and again dismissed me. No 50 minute massage, no hot stone add-on, and apparently no fruit tea. So I left having never received the majority of what I was supposed to be receiving, and on top of all of it, it was the worst 45 minutes of massage I have ever received. I was more stressed out than I was when I went in, and was so frustrated and disappointed. read more

I received a gift for a massage from my husband to The Therapy House. He paid extra for a few items, chocolates, tea, salt scrub, aromatherapy, etc. After my massage, I was given the chocolate by my masseuse and then I remembered I was supposed to receive other items. I mentioned to the receptionist I thought I was supposed to receive a salt scrub, etc. She said no, I did not have that type of gift certificate. Since it was a gift, and I had given her the gift certificate, I said, are you sure, I really thought he said there was more. I had no way to look up the gift certificate and apparently she did not want to look for it, b/c she became rude and handed me the salt scrub and said, "I don't want to argue with you, just take it." I wasn't even being argumentative, I just really thought I was suppose to receive it and all she had to do was look at the gift certificate, but she wouldn't. I then said, "Oh, I wasn't trying to argue...." and she cut me off and said, "Just take it." When I arrived home, I had my husband look up on his account and sure enough, I was due the upgrade. Not only did I receive the basic treatment, but it was unbelievably rude the way I was treated and come to find out, she was incorrect. This is not a review on their skill, but on their business practices. My friend (out of town) bought me a gift for my birthday, a spa package. You can imagine I was really looking forward to it. When I called to make an appt they said they would book the appt and talk to their manager, as I had been there a year or two before, and the groupon said it was only for new customers. After I called to inquire about this, they stated that they could give me a credit towards a service for how much she paid, but could not honor the package in the gift. At this point, I asked if they could just refund me the groupon so I could spend the groupon bucks elsewhere (I can get two separate hour long massages somewhere else, vs have to pay on top of the gift for an equal service at this salon). Then they informed me that the groupon was 'redeemed' and could not be refunded, and I'd have to speak to groupon. I don't understand how it could be 'redeemed' if the service hasn't been used, and I cancelled the appt outside their 24 hour requirement. After speaking with 2 separate folks on groupon and explaining to them repeatedly (their English wasn't great) they were able to get me groupon credits. I probably spoke with multiple people at this business, and they could not honor the package on the gift. I understand that they don't want people abusing this by buying themselves gifts, but this was clearly bought for me, by a person in another state, who wouldn't have known any better. As far as I'm concerned, if you aren't going to honor gift groupons, then don't allow them to be purchased. read more

I have been twice for the pamper package and have purchased another. Both times I was scheduled with Melody. I think they are very professional. The booking, confirmations and reminders were prompt and specific. I had a truly marvelous session both times. I had opted for the face massage for an extra and it was OK but I hadn't realized that it would be included in the same amount of time...no biggie! I found the establishment very clean. I was entirely satisfied with the services each time. I was really a physical wreck when I came for my second session. And while massage doesn't replace medical or chiropractic intervention, sometimes the alignment achieved with muscles massaged is enough since the body knows how to balance itself with some assistance. Like a marionette with strings pulled awry I left with no pain and walking straight for the first time in two weeks. I added on the hot stones and that was a good choice, especially for my needs at that time plus they offer the add ons for half the price at the time you come for your appointment. I would recommend this to anyone at any age and with any need as they are very sensitive to what that particular client needs.
