I was greeted with a glass of water with fresh fruit, my own sandals, and some questions about the service elements I would prefer. The whole set up was so professional! Upon being taken back for my appointment, I was delighted by how everything felt like I was in a five star, high end spa. The rooms were well appointed with the music of my choice and low lighting to set the relaxed mood. I had a body rub and massage with hot stones. Joe found the tense areas of my body and worked to relieve the huge knots in my shoulders. He was fantastic! After my appointment, each guest received a small snack of a beverage of your choice, a small pastry, and fresh fruit. This really put the visit over the top. It wasn't just an appointment, it was an experience. One of the best things?? I found their pricing to be very reasonable! For the for star feel and quality of the services, it's a great deal! I will absolutely be back. What a magical experience!

We were there for an event and they just started picking up plates cups and even towels, although if it wasn't over yet, and I was quite frankly surprised. The food was fairly subpar and I'm surprising. They only gave us one drink ticket. Not to nit, but I have to admit there was an incredible amount of flies and bees that were flying around that we were literally driving people away because it was so annoying.

You're better off not signing up and just walking in. 2. Brining guests is a complete hassle and you're charged a non refundable fee of $25 if life changes happen and you don't come with a guest that day. On several occasions I was denied guests even tho it was well before the required 24hour application to request them. On multiple occasions my requests were completely ignored and went unreported to even if they were placed 72hours in advance. I was frequently traveling to KC for work and sports only to be hassled when my wife visited from LA stating that I reached my cap for local guest passes (mind you, she lives in California full time and would visit me about once or twice a month for a weekend) 3. Steam room in women's bathroom is utterly disgusting and wasn't cleaned since I was there over a several month period, how'd I know? The dirt streaks and giant clump of hair that just remained of the floor for over 6months 4. Coming from Los Angeles and the Heimat gym where I pay $350/month, I was excited to try this gym... but this gym is clearly nothing but a wanna-be elite gym. The best part of this place is the flavored water in the women's locker room- And maybe the pools in the summer but good luck finding parking 5. Looking to bring up an issue with the staff and escalate it? Don't worry, they're happy to ignore you. Trust me, you're not gonna miss this place. Only thing it's memorable for is being complicated while trying to use its perks and over complicated. The 2 stars are for the water and the equipment. The cleaning staff is super nice tho!

While it is not cheap, it's worth it. You get ushered back to the bathroom to change. You have your own locker that you can put all your stuff in and lock, so very secure. Very nice bathrobe and sandals to put on and then you go into a waiting room. Very calm and serene. A couple of different flavored waters to choose from and snacks if you're so inclined. Waited in there about 10 mins (you can bring your phone but come on people - you're here to relax. Put the flipping thing in the locker. You can disconnect for an hour). My masseuse came and collected me and ushered me to a nice quiet room. She listened to what I wanted her to do and left me to get under the sheets. The room was nice and warm and I was never cold. The massage was WONDERFUL. I needed a deep tissue and she delivered. Within 2 days my shoulder and neck were worlds better. After the massage they take you back to the bathroom. I super appreciate that there is a shower. The only downside of massage is having that oil all over you and getting dressed again. Loved the shower - very clean and great towels. Highly recommend and will return!

The…read morecheck in desk was incredibly helpful and upgraded us since we were there to celebrate my husbands birthday! She explained many features of the hotel to us, as well as recommended the Paranormal tour. We settled into our room and got our swim suits on to explore the pools. I had stayed here in the late 80's as an 10yr old with my family and remembered some of the features. Was sad to see the waterfall pool had been closed in the early 2000's. But we enjoyed the European Lap Pool in the basement. I remembered it being a trek down some weird hallways. It was just as I remembered it, just a touch modernized. The water was incredibly refreshing after our hot afternoon at the Cubs/Royals game. There were a good number of kids in the hot and cold tubs, so we didn't get to enjoy them. We went upstairs and enjoyed the outdoor pool as well. It had thinned out over dinner time and was relaxing to enjoy. The Paranormal tour was EPIC and I highly recommend it. Being clairvoyant myself, it was very interesting to be able to put others encounters to what I was feeling in the hotel. While I never SAW a ghost, I could definitely feel their presence in certain places around the hotel. The next day, Monday, we enjoyed the pools again in the morning We booked the Grotto Experience, which I have to say was subpar for me. I didn't know much about it other than being told it was a must do and involved thermal hot and cold experiences. I'm not a fan of either. While it was just us, and one other couple for part of the time, and just us for most of the time, I was able to relax on the lounge chairs while my husband experienced the sauna and the steam rooms. Not my cup of tea. I did sit in the hot tub on the edge, again too hot for me. My favorite part was the ice cold peppermint towels. I was able to put one over my head and go into the steam room for a little while. I would not do it again though. We had a relaxing afternoon and enjoyed the pools again in the evening. Two things: 1)I would like coffee, nothing fancy, just black coffee and sugar/creamer offering in the lobby. I don't do fancy coffee so the coffee shop didn't appeal to me. 2) we were on the 4th floor and did the steps a LOT because of the small single elevator serving the whole hotel. So if you come, be ready to wait for the elevator or use the stairs. Overall we really enjoyed our stay for my husband's birthday. It was incredible to experience the hotel again through adult eyes and see things I remembered and enjoyed as a small child 35 years ago. Will return again soon!

The lobby is gorgeous and has that early 20th century arcade feel, when each nook felt like it held its own mysteries. The rest of the property is badly in need of a renovation. The pool is too small for the throngs of people using it. My hotel room was dirty and nasty. Tears on the furniture, stains on the carpet, linens and bedding that smelled. Actually shortened my stay as a result. Same with most of the other public spaces. They just haven't invested enough in upkeep over the years. Everything else was overpriced and underwhelming: the restaurant, room service, the spa, even the town itself. There's so much potential to build out a lovely walkable village around the hotel, but like with most such places in Missouri, the opportunity is squandered. It's another impoverished small town that time has forgotten. Bottom line, it has lasted this long because of reputation and because there's not really anything else like it in the area. But that doesn't make it good. If you're in the area, stop by and take a picture and get a coffee at the lobby coffee bar. Then be on your way.
