I stumbled through The Tie Bar store online when I was searching for a Tie for my wedding. I checked various stores and websites but they were very expensive or not at all. After looking at the The Tie Bar's website found out they carried both colors I was looking for. Therefore I told my fiance I was going to take the 45 minute drive from the city to the burbs, She said I was nuts for taking the drive. To my amazement, as I was led to the back of the warehouse I saw the large selection the store had. I asked the sales person for the colors I was looking for and before I knew it I had both colors that I needed. Mr. MVP exclusively wears ties from The Tie Bar and as odd as it sounds talking about a piece of fabric he ties around his neck, these ties are unbelievably gorgeous. The Tie Bar has thousands of ties to pick from in all sorts of colors, fabrics and lengths and their website makes it super easy to narrow down the options. Mr. MVP wears all silk ties and the colors are vibrant and we have yet to have any ties snag. I like that the designs are constantly changing, but the price always stays $15, which gives me the opportunity to update Mr. MVP's wardrobe and keep him looking professional and add a little pop of color without spending hundreds of dollars. read more

Ordered some accessories and paid extra for two day delivery, with assumption the order would show up 2-3 days before the date I needed it. Wrong! The order didn't ship out until 3 days after I placed the order. This is disappointing to me as I am repeat customer. Won't be buying from them again! Shit delivery service and logistics. On one order place before Christmas, one of the items I had ordered was not available. They called me and called the second day as well to see what I wanted to do (my bad for not returning first call). They were helpful and made sure my order arrived in time for Christmas. I wouldn't buy a tie without feeling it first. So much of a tie is the texture and how it'll hold a knot, more than the pattern. Some ties are limp, some hold a knot but are too thick, and others just look like cheap screen prints. Different silks reflect light differently, and colors don't look the same as online. So I wouldn't just buy a tie off of the internet from some random site. Fortunately, this place has a store front, so I was able to give it a test drive. Really, really excellent stuff. They have substance and hold a knot flawlessly, but they aren't super thick. Their web store has a larger selection, though, so now that I know these are quality, I'm ordering off of there. The best one I have is the "Biz" tie, but the Sweet Tooth and Opulent are really cool too. Everything I've ordered has been top-notch. This is the real deal. They're $19, they're excellent quality, and they're sharp fashions. Go ahead and pull the trigger. I've done the feel-test for you, and they're just right. I haven't tried wool, cotton, or linen (or bow-ties or squares either), as none of those are really my thing. But I doubt they'd screw those up when they do the standard silk so well. read more

Went back 7 months later and let them know what had happened and they handed me a new shirt no questions asked and they also informed me of the best way to wash my tie bar shirts in the future to make sure the same thing doesn't happen again. Great website. For the cost, they can't be beat. I ordered a tie and pocket squares from them for my wedding. The tie I received is 100% silk and on bar with several Banana Republic ties that I own (and which retail for much more). The pocket squares are, well, pocket squares. There isn't much to say about them other than they do the job and I have no complaints. I appreciated the web tool which lets you pair ties with various suit jackets and shirts. Obviously things look slightly different in person, but it's a nice touch. I also appreciated that you can search by color, which comes in handy when planning for a wedding. Shipping was very prompt for me. That may vary around the holidays and prom/wedding season. My only complaint is that they were sold out of some of the traditional tie styles I was looking at when I went to place my order. As a result, I had to get ties for my groomsmen from another place. read more

Their prices certainly are low, and for some things their quality is alright, for instance, I bought two solid silk knit ties that look very nice. However, I've ordered a few woven silk pocket squares from them, and I wasn't all that impressed. The grade of silk they used would have been fine for a casual silk shirt, where you want a softer texture with less sheen, but in an accessory like a pocket square that is supposed to "pop", you want the higher sheen of silk. I look through their selection of woven silk ties and there is nothing there I want to buy, there are a lot of washed out looking patterns, it seems like they are going for a more casual, "hipster" look with a lot of their ties, dressed down instead of dressed up. read more

This place is kinda in the middle of nowhere behind CompUSA. Also, they aren't really a store, but more of an office + warehouse that houses / handles their online retail business. That said, the employees were very helpful in guiding me / helping me find some ties, and their selection was huge. I spent about an hour and a half looking at the ties that were at eye level or below (they have racks of ties that you have to use ladders to reach). The ties all seemed to be quality ties that normally cost $25+ at other stores. In hindsight, I probably should've looked at their selection at thetiebar.com first before shopping there as it would've been more time-efficient. Overall, I had a good time there. read more

Update: After my initial review, I received a personal message on here from their Customer Care Lead, Stefanie, and I was really impressed. She offered solutions, and went above and beyond to make us feel like valued customers. However, we want back into the store yesterday and were once again greeted with bad customer service. There were two employees working and as we entered, no one said a word to us. One guy was standing by the cash register and there was a woman folding some items, looking mad at the world. This time we were looking for pocket squares and the pocket squares happened to be what the woman was folding. As we walked over there, instead of asking what we were looking for and how she could help, she just moved over and started folding ties instead. The Tie Bar is fine and reasonably priced if you know what you are looking and are willing to find it yourself. But if you want any kind of assistance, go elsewhere. And to management: PLEASE either train your staff or hire people who know how to provide good customer service. read more

First time customer. I wanted a nice, fitted long sleeved white shirt, that didn't billow around my waist. Shipping was decent. Collar and sleeves fit, chest was too snug. Returned the first shirt and saw that, in order to improve chest fit, I had to increase requested collar size. Received their second try and chest was till a little too tight. No refund allowed, so I accepted a credit on the site and ordered a 3rd time, again increasing the neck size, in order to get a larger chest. The result that shipped was exactly what I tried to avoid: a billowy waist and extremely loose collar. The chest finally fit, but the assumption appears to be that a slightly above average chest size in a man, necessarily demands a large waistline. I have NO belly or midriff bulges, thus the need for a FITTED shirt. The shirt I got is a dumpy and unsightly mess. read more

I am writing this review from Seattle, WA as I have not stepped foot in the actual store but I have to give a shout out to Tony who helped me from across the country! I order all of my suit accessories from thetiebar.com and products are great quality for the price. I placed an order online and paid extra for expedited shipping because the accessories were needed for a wedding for all of us groomsmen. On the order detail I used the work address but it seemed that tiebar.com used my billing address for the shipping and since USPS can't figure stuff out (that's another whole story on it's own) they sent it back to the sender. The wedding is a destination wedding and since it was the weekend the tiebar.com customer service number is not open on Saturdays so I desperately called the Flagship story and thankfully I got Tony on the line. Tony heard my story out, understood my urgency, gave my order number and he asked what hotel I was staying in San Francisco. Literally within one minute he states; "We will send your tiebars via next day shipping and it should be there before you get to your hotel." Wow! Anxiety level went down and gave me peace of mind. I'm in Canada. I placed two large orders. The first one was fine. The second larger order has been nothing but trouble. First, they sent entirely the wrong order - I got somebody else's stuff. I called and The Tie Bar said they would straighten it out - that was 6 days ago. They said they would call back - they haven't. They said they would ship the correct order - they haven't. They said said they would credit my card for the dielivery charge. They haven't. I called again this morning - still waiting for a call back. DON'T DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY ONLINE UNLESS YOU LIKE TO WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!!! I won't be using them again. I've been doing business with the Tie Bar for about 5 years now and it dawned on me that I spend at least $300.00 a year ordering ties for my students, I should ask them if they can cover the shipping cost this time. The girl on the phone was very nice and said "let me ask the owner"... so i waited patiently to see if the owner would pay $8.95 to keep his customer happy. She got back on the phone and told me NO. Really??? wow it's not about the money, if i was a business owner I would cover the shipping cost at least once to show my appreciation to the customer. He didn't even get on the phone to tell me himself instead the girl was like "ummm you can come to our warehouse and pick it up?? i said, no thanks, i'll just take my business elsewhere. I found a similar tie at the Men's Warehouse and they were great with their service, it was prompt and friendly and they even offered discount. i was able to buy more ties for the money and I will be using them every year from now on. read more

I really, really, really wanted to love this website. I credit all 3-stars to the excellent customer service, but really only to the customer service. I ordered a batch of ties for my wedding, and was so excited to receive them in the mail shortly after purchasing. To my dismay, the color in person was pretty different than the photo online (I understand it's not possible to get an exact color-match through online photos, but I was still disappointed). After emailing with Leah in their customer service department (she's great), I paid the $10 shipping to return them and was issued an exchange for a set of satin ties. Hopeful and excited, I opened the box only to find that nearly all of the satin ties looked worn and snagged. I was so bummed! I know satin is a sensitive material but they just looked terrible. So, I emailed Leah again and she graciously offered to refund my money upon their return. She also said I would not be charged their $28ish re-stocking fee as a courtesy. Another $10 in return shipping later, I decided their inventory didn't have the right item for me and I was going to move on. I was happy to receive my purchase refund, but they did charge me the re-stocking fee after all. I didn't push the issue, and despite the money I spent on return shipping/re-stocking, I lost a good chunk of money and ended up with nothing in the end. If you are going to shop here, just be really really sure you LOVE the item you are buying, and/or realize that it might not be exactly what you had in mind and decide if you are ok with that. His upbeat personality, expertise in the field, and sense of humor prompted us to book an appointment. We met a few days later, and he took a plethora of measurements, provided us with an abundance of fabrics and linings to choose from, and guided us through the whole process. We chose everything including but not limited to the type of collar, patterned lining, color of the thread for the button holes, and ribbon accents on the sleeves. Tony offered just the right amount of guidance and suggestions. It can be an overwhelming process, and he made it a really fun and truly memorable experience.
