The location is a bit tricky, kinda like looking for Two Brothers Brewery while going through the industrial plaza. It felt a tad bit weird walking in as you encounter a few offices at the front door, which almost felt as if I opened the wrong door. One of the girls escorted me to a giant warehouse room that had so many ties that you can't help but feel overwhelmed by the vast selection. I placed an order on December 16th, paying extra for shipping so that it would hopefully arrive in time for Christmas; the estimated delivery was December 20-24th. It didn't arrive in time for Christmas, that's fine, it's my fault for waiting so late to order. I contacted The Tie Bar on January 4th, because the order still had not arrived. I was told shipping dates aren't guaranteed and that my order was on its way and should arrive soon. After another email exchange, I was informed that the order had not even shipped yet, and was finally being sent out TWENTY FOUR days after it was ordered. Update Feb 14, 2014: After complaining to The Tie Bar about my previous order, they gave me a code for free shipping. I ordered three ties, they were shipped right away and arrived within a week. In fact, it still holds up well after two years and a handful of uses. The package arrived within seven days. The second time around? Horrid. I can't talk about the quality of the ties I bought because I never received them, yet. I placed my order the second week of December hoping I'd get it in time for Christmas Eve... I mean the business was located in Chicagoland so I'd figure shipping wouldn't be much of a problem. I was wrong. The company received their fame by signing on the glitterati, too bad the change of company status can't buy integrity. But hey, Wayne has his own bow tie line and Ferguson looks dappered in the professional taken photos. Who cares about the hoi polloi. If they can't, at least, figure out the shipping issue it'll be hard for me to support their brick & mortar. I ordered a bow tie and a pocket square on Sunday, May 18th, and paid $7.99 for USPS Priority Shipping/Preferred Service (3-5 business days). On their website they state multiple times that "All orders are shipped on the next business day," and yet I received an email two days later that my package had just shipped. Even worse, that email also said "We have upgraded your shipping method at no additional cost" and showed me that, instead of USPS priority shipping (whose estimated delivery date was May 22nd-23rd), my package was being shipped via UPS Ground! Last time I checked, USPS Priority Shipping to UPS Ground is NOT an upgrade. Not to mention that they made the decision to do so completely without ever confirming with me that it was okay. Now my scheduled delivery date is Tuesday, May 27th, two days past the event that I need the items for. The late shipping date is tolerable, despite their promise to ship the next day, but the fact that my package is now being shipping by UPS means that it will not be delivered on Saturday, which would have been in time for my event! If they stuck with USPS, I would most likely have gotten my package this Saturday (since USPS actually delivers on Saturdays) and there would not have been any issues. But nope, due to this company's lack of communication, I will have to buy my ties elsewhere from now. One star for selection, one star for prices. Minus three stars for relying too much on the fact that delivery times are "not guaranteed" (I see, from scrolling down the Yelp reviews, that several other customers have also experienced this issue from The Tie Bar). read more

I love this place for all my tie needs. I've been ordering from here for quite some time and have never had any problems. Have I ordered some times I didn't like once I got them? Sure but hey for $15 that isn't a big deal, I still wear them too! I used them for my wedding. Since I wasn't sure which tie would work the best with my suit, I ordered a couple. When I finally decided on one, 2 weeks before the wedding, I ordered 3 more for my groomsmen and 4 pocket squares to boot. All were received within a week, perfect matching and just plain awesome. Even if the color was off just a little they'd still be great. I got my order today and was shocked when I opened the box. The tie, square, and suspenders were not even close to orange. A good chunk of my wardrobe is orange. These weren't even close to orange. They were closer in color to my brown desk than to anything orange. I am sending them back immediately. This review covers my online experiences. I can't comment on TTB.com's store in Illinois. TTBdotcom is awesome. I've been a customer since 2010. The world is better with them in it, doing business and selling ties to working class people like me, who toil in public service under the belief that we are getting rich. Because I can't shell out $40 to $100 to tie a noose around my neck-- even $30 seems high-- TTB is the answer. I figure if I pay for a noose to hang around my neck each day, It'd better be reasonably priced, elegant and nice. "My, what a nice noose you have, there! Is that paisley?" But, I digress. I like TTB because it offers high-quality ties at near rock-bottom prices. Compare their ties yourself. You can't get a product like that-- quality silk or wool patterns-- at such prices anywhere in the lower 48 states. And with dry cleaning bills being what they are, sometimes it makes more sense to replace a tie than to subject it another round of chemical baths. I will admit, there are times when I look at my tie collection and chuckle because I feel a little guilty: like a stole 'em or something. Yes, you're right: these ties are not brand-name ties and you don't get to truly preview or touch what you buy. It's not a brick n' mortar experience, but who cares? Goodness heavens, they are $15 each! And the quality is nearly the same as some of my best ties. I have a bunch of brand-name ties, including Italian silk ties, which I do love. But, I'm telling you: side-by-side, the feel and look is mostly comparable. What does this mean for me and you? It means looking good and amassing lots of tie colors and styles for $15 per tie! For some reason you wouldn't oblige and offered unsolicited advice such as "we don't do that here" and when I asked why you said "that's not how fashion works". Seriously bro? I persisted on what I wanted and you finally relented to search in the back for the pocket square and a very short minute later claimed you didn't have it (despite it being on your website)...or maybe you did have it but wouldn't break your fashion code for fear of reprisal by the fashion gods. He asked me what color suit, shirt, and shoes I was going to wear and found a shop model with a white shirt and black suit and helped me find things that matched well. If he didn't find something, he used the online website to find certain styles and went to the back to look for the items. He even said that he would not try to force a match if it didn't fit well. If you are from Canada, I highly recommend you don't order. Ordered slate blue ties and the color didn't match the picture at all, and they won't send you a label if you are an international customer. So you have to pay for the shipping to refund it before you get your money back which will cost you more then the tie itself. Highly recommend international customers not to order!! read more

I have ordered from The Tie Bar several times and have been very satisfied with their products and service. Items come very neatly packaged and it is very obvious they take extra care in this area. My most recent purchase was a gift box for my father. When I received the order, the tie seemed very thin, possibly so thin that my father would probably never wear it. I called their customer service department asking about returns and exchanges and was blown away. The employee I talked to was extremely kind and knowledgeable. Instead of having me exchange the item, he went ahead and had a wider tie sent out to replace the thin tie in the gift box free of charge and made sure it got here in time for Christmas! I had to order 6 reasonably priced ties for my groomsmen but was having trouble just stumbling across the right ones in any stores. So I found 2 styles online through the Tie Bar and ordered 12 ties in total up to Vancouver, Canada knowing the return of the unwanted style would be free. 1 style was perfect for my 6 groomsmen and matched their suit colours exactly, so I sent the 6 remaining ties back to Tie Bar's flagship store on one of my groomsmen's road trip back to Chicago after the wedding. He stopped in and was told no worries, and that I'd get my credit back. It was even a bit past the return deadline but I'd checked with their customer service to make sure it would be okay - she said it would and they understand. Anyways, a month rolled by and I hadn't received a refund. I wasn't surprised because of all the poor customer service that is rampant these days, but figured what the heck - I'll send an email and just see if anything happens. Well, it turns out the refund had been processed but the payment had a small glitch. That very same day, they forced the payment through, plus my original shipping! So with a graduation and a couple of graduation parties coming up back in December, I decided to build my outfits based around some neckwear that I thought would go well with the clothes I was planning on wearing. Having been to the warehouse in Naperville, I figured the transaction would be quite similar with their pop-up in Lincoln Park, but it was actually much more streamlined than that. At the old warehouse, which is now closed, you had to walk in and ask to peruse the merch in the back, and be escorted by an attractive female to find what you needed. Here at the pop-up, the ties and other items such as socks, bars, and snazzy leather and wool belts are on various tables and shelves for you to pick through. The ties were organized solely by color, with different materials and patterns placed in the basket. If you're not pressed for time, the easiest way(I think) to shop would be to know exactly what you're looking for on your mobile phone/tablet/PC/Mac/PalmPilot/Timeport/Sidekick, find the style number and note which tie width you would like, and call ahead to have your items pulled and ready to go when you walk in. Then, all you have to do when you get here is announce your presence with trumpets, fanfare, and a red carpet, and they'll bring your items on the back of a trained otter, along with a giant palm branch to fan you with and grapes to be fed to you while you lounge on a La-Z-Boy. Just kidding! There's no La-Z-Boy, silly! Who has a La-Z-Boy anyway? Well anyways, minus the fanfare, that's pretty much how I did it a couple of weeks ago. Called ahead with style numbers and tie widths, had them ready when I walked in, and by the way, they were giving out free socks with every $45 purchase! I didn't quite make my quota but was offered a pair either way, the caveat being that they were sort of holiday specific choices, but hey - Free is free. I chose a pair of grey and red reindeer socks with a Fair Isle band; there was a pair of green bottomed red and white striped socks, I thought maybe if I came back and got another tie later, I might end up with that one. Fingers crosse! The ties I chose were a wool knit tie in navy, and a gray wool with black microdot. As stated above, when I walked in and told them I called ahead, he had them sitting at the counter for me, ready to go. No digging through the baskets for me. In and out in 5 minutes. I could have had them shipped, but I'm always happier when I can have the product in my hands prior to purchasing. I went back a week later and picked up a gray chambray, same process, called ahead with style number and ready to go when I walked in. They offered a pair of socks again! So I got the candy stripes. All in all, I was super happy with my purchases, especially since I got two pairs of socks for free. The prices are always reasonable, and although some reviewers feel like you maybe get what you pay for? I think it's a great bargain to be had, or maybe I'm just lucky and/or take care of my ties well. Come down to The Tie Bar and get knotted up! read more

Note that this review is about an in-store purchase, not online ordering. It really is in a sort of commerical/industrial district and rightly so, because it's their actual warehouse they ship orders out from. It's an open office right when I walked in but there was a really nice gentleman eagerly waiting to help me at a desk. I knew what I wanted and described it to him. He lead me to the back warehouse and found the exact tie I was looking for within 2 minutes, then showed me similar ones if I didn't like that one. You can't really go "shopping" (at least by yourself) per say as all their ties are in boxes on industrial racks but I'm sure the description you give (as in my case) will get you what you want. I highly recommend jumping onto their website and finding ones that peak your interest then going over to look at them -- they will always recommend similar ties if you are feeling frisky. I also picked up a quality tie clip on the cheap. I'm surprised on how well made these products are for the price they sell them. Check out was a cinch and and dare I say, "easy on the eyes." If I had the money, I would have taken all of the women out for lunch. All the employees working there were as friendly as they get. Perfect customer service. Horrible Customer Service! My boyfriend and I were on a stroll this morning and decided to stop into the Armitage store. What a mistake! My boyfriend (who is from Paris, France) doesn't love 2.5 inch ties so he asked the store employee about their 3 inch ties (which they did have a small selection of). The store employee went on to say that based on my boyfriend's build that he should ONLY be wearing 2.5 inch ties. He said that 3 inch or larger ties are for fat and/or old men. He then preceded to insult my boyfriend's tie preference and told him that he was "not on trend". We came into the store to shop, but left with unsolicited "styling advice".
