Went for an impromptu drink on a Tuesday night. The place is quaint and charming. Not too big but not too small. Tuesday had maybe 8 other people there. Dim lighting and wood booths line the place. Funny to say, but they have he most comfortable bar stools I've ever sat on! The bartender was very friendly, talkative and great at recommending drinks. First, I had The Green Drink! She said you can only get it 1-2 times a year! Unique and tasty! Never had a drink with cilantro in it. Good balance of fresh herbs, pineapple and citrus. Second drink, she made a custom cocktail for me. I was in the mood for gin but my favorite drinks are mojitos and vodka presses. She didn't bat an eyelash and whipped up something exactly to what I asked for. Prices are average for a craft cocktail ($9-10). The green drink was $12 but not crazy for the specialty and freshness. read more

Love this place. It's tiny so I almost hate to review it - if it becomes too popular it might becomed "Dallas-fied" with a velvet rope or something. The Tigress is one of the few places in Austin that focuses on cocktails - I guess you could say 'craft' cocktails but haughty foodie snobbery is not the vibe of this place. The list is simple - 10 cocktails offered with good ingredients (some made in-house) all costing $7 each. Also a list of local brews. Simple, reasonable and tasty. Again, its a tiny place - seven seats at the bar and maybe 15 more places to sit at tables. I really like "The Doctor" on the list. I came here on my birthday and had the best experience. I was actually really sad, and coming here totally turned things around. Really good atmosphere, great drinks, and friendly bartender. Wonderful, small neighborhood bar. Alex, the bartender was warm and welcoming. She chatted with us, made our drinks and suggestions about others. We went on a mid-Sunday afternoon. We just thought it would be fun to try a couple of mixed drinks we'd never had before. My husband picked this pub because it was a small neighborhood bar. It was a very enjoyable experience. Tigress was recommended to us, so being in the neighborhood, I thought sure! I was told that cocktails were their specialty so I just wanted to keep it simple and asked for a rum and diet coke. The bartender immediately replied "we don't carry anything with aspertame in it!!" Yet I could see regular coke in their cooler, so I think high fructose corn syrup is that much better? I don't visit too frequently, but every time I do, I feel like a "regular". The drinks are delicious and the bar staff is knowledgeable. The only drawback is that there's no food, but that's probably what also keeps the vibe so chill. The cocktail menu is limited to 8 cocktails that change seasonally, and for an incredibly low price of $7 each. $7 is a steal for these quality classic cocktails that normally run $11-14 each at other establishments. The beer selection is also limited, however, each one is a quality beer ($5 each) from a local brewery (except Guinness and Abita). While Tigress does not serve food (nor have intentions of serving food), it is definitely BOYF or BYOG. Bring your own Food or Bring your own Grub. Go ahead, bring a pizza, steak, or bbq sandwich. Just make sure you bring enough for everyone else. Arrangements for food delivery to Tigress from other restaurants are in the works. I really want to like this place. It's cool to find a quaint neighborhood bar that claims to make cocktails, but this place fails at the latter. My first experience there was good because they had a guest bartender. My experience yesterday was not so good. Pam, the owner, seems clueless about cocktails and is very rigid in what she can, or wants to, make. She's friendly enough, but she really needs some coaching on how to run a bar. My wife asked for a Negroni...no such luck because Pam doesn't like Campari and doesn't stock it. It's her bar, so she's entitled. The bar is also super small, so I'm sure she has to prioritize her inventory. So my wife asked for an Old Fashioned...the simplest classic cocktail possible. That's a safe request. Nope. Pam doesn't make them because everyone likes them made differently and she doesn't stock cherries. We don't want cherries. We want bourbon, sugar, bitters, and an orange twist. What's hard about that? But she isn't interested in asking how we like it and trying to make what we want...she would rather refuse our money. So we stared at Pam blankly for about 30 seconds trying to comprehend that she just rejected two of our cocktail requests (I'm sorry, aren't we at a cocktail bar?) and finally ordered two manhattans. Those were on the menu, so we knew Pam could handle them. They were....ok. Not a great bourbon, not a great vermouth. I've definitely had better. I think the problem is that Pam just doesn't know how to make anything that isn't on the menu, which is really surprising for the owner of a freaking cocktail bar. She finally had a guest bartender show up, and I ordered a sazerac from him. No problem. He whipped out a perfect sazerac while Pam took notes. Again...no clue. If there's a guest bartender working, this place is good. If Pam is working, go somewhere else. read more

The Tigress sounds much more foreboding than it is: this tiny cocktail-centric pub sits on the lip of the North Loop stretch and feels cozy and a little alluring at once. Bathed in warm walls and copper-plated ceilings, they reveal a number of carefully crafted liquid concoctions and a bevy of mostly local brews. It was an ideal arrangement for a week night, and when I dropped by there seemed to be several of us with the same idea...find an eccentric Austin haunt with a little festive flavor, shake it until done, mix in some ample conversation, and turn that glass upside down. Pam's plenty friendly and this endeavor seems clearly a labor of love for her, from the appointments of the room to the cocktail recipes and the way they're executed besides. And when she wasn't bending our ear, her British barkeep dropped off a tall pour. It seems sometimes the best thing about finding a favorite spot is the anticipation of a return encounter. I think that the tiniest bar in Texas has some new competition. The Tigress is a great new English pub on Northloop, and at maximum capacity, it probably holds 30 people. The space used to be a third of Asahi Market... What is lacks in size, it more than makes up for in charm and character. The owner/bartender/janitor/etc Pam is a big part of this. Could she get any nicer? She did a really good job of decorating the place (still in progress to some degree) as well. It just feels comfortable. We went in for a cocktail and ended up staying all night. Don't come here expecting to order flaming doctor peppers or stuff like that. Pam only has a limited selection at this time. Beers (all on draft) included Guinness, Fireman's 4, 512 IPA, Abita Amber, Live Oak Hefe and one other that I can't remember. She also has a relatively small selection of liquor, so standard call drinks will be OK, more exotics less likely... Do yourself a favor and order one of her specialty drinks - wowza... Selections currently include the aviation, blood & sand, moscow mule, sidecar, french 75, manhattan, satan's whiskers and the vesper (a martini). We tried all but the french 75, the manhattan and the vesper and they were absolutely delightful. Be patient as this is a one woman operation and these drinks are hand crafted. Very reasonably priced at $7 for the cocktails and $5 for pints. No food and very limited hours for now (W-Su 4PM to 11PM). She will be open early for the World Cup game (USA/England). This is a great step towards making the Northloop entertainment district a reality (it only exists in my head at this point in time)! read more

For me, this place works well for the area and is a good alternate to the other bar attractions on this street. I wouldn't put it on Drink.Well's level in terms of cocktails and it doesn't have the fully neighborhood locals feel that Work Horse has. None of this is meant as a knock. It has a style and groove all its own and I like it. It's more chill and less chic than Drink.Well yet is more refined than Work Horse. They make some pretty good cocktails and the bartenders I've encountered here have been nice. While Tigress Pub may be third in line for me for the area, I do like them. I've been here a few times already and wouldn't think twice about returning. read more

3.5 stars for the cons, given that other, less refined establishments in town lack these issues entirely. Pros: Cozy ambiance, intimate atmosphere inside, quaint almost romantic patio in the back that still feels as such even with multiple parties outside. Fit that in with some personable bartenders, and you've got the makings for a really nice date night! The Bartender who hosted us personally was wonderful company for conversation with the rest of my party, and she took the BEST care of us during our visit that she could. Cons: An arguably limited selection of liquor for a place that seems to focus its pride on craft cocktails. It's understandable that the pandemic had severely limited business as of late to give any benefit of doubt, but combine that with a lack of providing customers with a preference of liquor for classic standard cocktails exacerbates this. The coups de Grace in dissatisfaction came when I was informed that the bar had absolutely no cherries to compliment a cocktail that is typically garnished with one. Other regulars who overheard me went out of their way to mention that it's a decision from the ownership down. If it's a matter of affordability for something as trivial yet pertinent as a jar of Luxardo cherries, then bigger core issues exist elsewhere; if it's a matter of personal opinion as to what constitutes tradition in a drink, that's even worse when any reasonable bartender or connoisseur should know that the "best way" to serve a drink is however the person consuming it wants it dressed. read more

I don't throw around one star reviews too often... this is actually my first. I went on a tuesday night, and there were about 8 other patrons in the pub. The one bartender was overworked, apathetic, and borderline rude. The bar's attempted trendy concept results in the bartender taking up to 5 minutes to mix a drink which logistically does not work if there is more than a few people in the bar at once. We waited 25 minutes before we walked out (to a completely unapologetic bartender) and went to "work horse" in the next building over. I'm sure drink quality would have been good, and I may have had an isolated experience, but the service was truly awful. Management should council her. read more

I had an extremely off-putting experience here on a Sunday night, and doubt that I'll be back. After going out for dinner for my birthday, my husband and I decided to try Tigress for drinks. We had been looking forward to coming here for a while, but had put it off because we wanted to go on a less crowded night (not a Friday or Saturday). Sunday seemed like the perfect opportunity. We live near North Loop and were hoping to find another regular hangout. We walked inside around 9pm, and it was like walking unexpectedly onto a stage and being glared at by a large audience. The place was decently full of people... who were all sitting in perfect silence watching The Walking Dead on TV. Everyone turned to stare at us as we walked in and quickly suffled to the back out of their way. The bartender--who I think is also the owner--approached us. She told us that this was "a special night" for this TV show, and that we could stay--if we whispered and didn't talk. She handed us a menu and went back behind the bar. It was so awkward that we left immediately. I get that the owner of a bar has every right to run it like it's their living room if they see fit, but we were made to feel so incredibly uncomfortable that I do not want to come back to this place. I really wish that there had been a sign on the door or at least a notice on the website warning us that the place is basically closed on Sunday nights. If I feel like watching TV, I stay home with Netflix. When I feel like chatting and drinking, I go to a bar. We walked down the street to drink.well instead, and were made to feel welcome. I'm giving two stars because the cocktails did look good, and the prices were lower than other cocktail prices in the neighborhood. read more

So my early experiences at Tigress had me so excited that they inspired my initial review to be presented to you in the form of an acrostic poem. But, like the phases of the moon, my early poetic waxings have now waned. Why, you may wonder? Well, unfortunately, that which we call Tigress, no longer smells as sweet. Once upon a time drinks were all $7, but today that is a fairytale from a faraway land. And on top of that, on multiple occasions we have had very *slow* and *weird* exchanges while waiting, hoping, and wanting to pay our bill - call it a long, strange trip that you don't want to experience more than once. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that they sometimes have barrel aged cocktails and on a night when I have a lot of time and patience, the drinks they make are quite delicious. But, many nights, my feelings about Tigress are as follows: it's tiny, it's quaint, but worth the hassle it ain't! read more

I don't really know what the definition of a cocktail really is, but The Tigress Pub serves the only adult beverages that deserve to be called cocktails. The melded flavors will inspire you to leave the plain old jack and coke or vodka and soda and search for your true cocktail identity. Even the glassware is appropriately chosen for each drink. I can't remember the four drinks we tried, but I know the Blood & Sand and the French 75 were a huge hit. The French 75 is a great concoction with champagne. Can't ever go wrong with champagne in classy, etched stemware. And at 7 dollars a cocktail...you can be parsimonious and feel chic and sophisticated while enjoying these DELICIOUS cocktails. It's a tiny place, but it has way more personality than the average bar/pub. I think 10-15 people could fit comfortably (ie, have a seat), but anymore than that and it's probably too crowded. We arrived about 9pm on a Thursday and took the last two seats. If we weren't able to snag some seats, I'm positive we would have missed out on the gems The Tigress Pub has to offer. The only reason I can't give The Tigress 5 stars is for the very limited seating. I would probably be a bit annoyed if we arrived to a full house, I mean all 10 seats were taken and we couldn't sit to enjoy a wonderful cocktail. I don't usually recommend places for date night, but this is definitely a getting to know you date night or any other date night kind of place. It's small, it's intimate, and you can have a conversation in a calm, cool, relaxed environment. Akin to the East Side Showroom, sans the "Where's Waldo" hipsters, this place was very cozy with a staff open for conversation/explanation into their mixology process. I had a Blood and Sand (or something manly like that) and it was exquisite-- chilled sterling silver chalice, blood orange garnish--warm fuzzies still ensconce my person. They also had a pretty decent selection of local ATX brews, which is always nice. There wasn't a very noticeable sign from the streets, so trust in your instincts/GPS and park around that Northloop shopping complex and enjoy $7 prohibition style drinks or $5 local brews. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. Whenever we're in the area, we try and stop in. Sweet Pea is a killer bartendress, and the old movies on the screens definitely add to the ambiance. In a few words, this place is tiny, cute, and friendly. Their drink specials are well varied in flavor, and almost all of them are $7! Seriously! You can't hardly get a decent call drink for that in some areas of town! Plus, all their beers are $5 for 20 oz! Wha?? I think some of these local pubs could use a look at this joint for an idea of proper pricing. The cocktails are lovingly created. You'll wait a bit, but the bartender is always on the move with multiple drinks swirling in her head. The most dangerous deals are the Kir Royale and French 75. Call me old but I can't get into limited seating, sports on the tv, nor back exits blocked by heavy wooden tables. Hence the 3 stars. The entire venue is tiny and they have packed in as much as they could. There are a lot if lines that continuously block the path of egress. The staff will serve you from their ok collection of beer and mixed drinks and then the hunt is off to find a place to sit or stand. We were lucky enough to find a seat with some young guys who shared a table with us. My immediate concern is the back exit, which has a lit up exit sign, has a table with 4 heavy chairs and a trash can blocking it. I know more about life safety code than you and this is an unsafe practice. If you are not a hipster, don't have a beard, don't enjoy sports, are aware of life safety code, and don't enjoy over hearing conversations about "titty bars," this is not the bar for you. read more

Usually when I walk into places like this I worry that I'll just feel old and not nearly cool enough. I ain't no skinny hipsta girl. But I really felt right at home. I certainly wasn't the oldest in the room, nor was I dressed the worst. It's small. That's true. There are small tables attached to the walls with comfy barstools gathered around them. One good corner booth that seats five. Maybe six seated at the bar. I'd say a max of twenty-five people could fit in there comfortably. So not big. But at least the seats are comfortable if you can snag one. There is a small menu of seasonal suggestions but I chose to just tell the bartender what flavors I wanted and she came up with something. I said I wanted something with gin and violets and got a pint sized bubbly elevation. A pint sized cocktail. Yes. Better yet, for seven dollars. Plus they had a few tvs on the walls playing the Turner Classic Movie channel. That's the only channel I miss since cutting the cable. So I got to watch part of The Maltese Falcon and all of Mildred Pierce. Classic movies and fancy cocktails in a laid back atmosphere. It made me happy in my heart. read more

From the outside the Tigress is simple and barely marked, but on the inside you are greeted by the wood paneled ceiling, small bar and expert bartender. After selecting your beverage of choice, you will be mesmerized by the bartender as they carefully and delicately prepare your drink. I dare you to look away, for they might hold the secret to all things alcohol and if you were a tiger/tigress it is here that you begin purr (cue awkward purr). Once the cocktail is in your hand, it will feel like you won an expensive prize, and now the person sitting next to you is as attractive as Don Draper. Its hard to imagine how this place could be more perfect. Tucked away in a little corner of north loop ( we had to call for directions), this joint had the best mix of good drink, friendly patrons, welcoming owner and chill vibe. I had a drink with ginger beer, which pretty much rocked my world ( Moscow Mule) and the BF got two interesting mixtures, one which was served in a goblet. Everything is always better in a goblet. The place is small-- so don't come with a crowd. After learning that the owner used to work in a lab for years ( I hope I got that detail right) the interesting mixtures made sense even more. I don't get to hit up pubs or bars anymore, really. Mostly because of the tiny human who moved into my house and drinks all my milk and eats all my food. On the rare occasion the lady and I are able to free ourselves, we try to cram as much "Real Life (tm)" into the time we have. And after seeing a very charming movie at the Alamo Drafthouse (another rare treat), we chose to stop in at the Tigress. I will be honest - the outside had me somewhat worried - mostly because everything along that stretch of North Loop sometimes looks like a post-apocalyptic strip mall. It also doesn't help that the State Potters field is right across the road (that's a type of cemetary, yo. But a much scarier one. Probably full of potential hobo zombies, bindle and all.) Arriving just as the doors open we had the place to ourselves for a time - just us and the owner herself. Shortly thereafter we were joined by one Sweet Pea, the other Tender of the Bar. I will say that I enjoyed the look and feel of the interior - very much the old fashioned pub; dark wood and metal fixtures. Given our limited time we had a small selection from their Summer menu, and it was as follows: First Round: Corpse Reviver Slingshot? Wingshot? I don't remember the name. Analysis: CR - Not a bad cocktail, though lacking some of the "flair" of barcraft. Other - not to my liking, but still refreshing. The lady seemed to enjoy. Second round: Blood and Sand Analysis: B&S - despite my favoritism for a good Corpse reviver, this cocktail was very well crafted by Miss Pea. Served in a chilled metal goblet, the flavors of cherry, vermouth and (if I remember correctly) whiskey were very well balanced and tasty, with a hint of spice. This will likely be the drink I have if we're able to return. With plans to expand into a larger space next door, the Tigress has a lot of potential for a solid night spot when we're able to be adults..even if you have to deal with some of the stranger North Loopers on the way in or while you enjoy your beverage. read more

I went to the Tigress for the first time last night with a good friend. I was expecting something dark and moody but was surprised to walk into a brightly lit little room with lots of textured paint and kitschy pictures on the wall. The bartenders greeted us... after a while. Drinks aren't cheap but they are strong and tasty. They have a cocktail list to choose from, and I didn't see what they had on tap, but overall it looked like something for everyone. It was a bit hot and humid in there, and a bit crowded, too. The decor was a bit tacky, but I think I could get over it. I'll have to come back and sample the other drinks before I make up my mind. read more

I came here because a friend of mine had been here several times and she really liked it. If you enjoy cocktails and want something other than the usual suspects you find at most bars then this could very well be the place for you. We stopped in on the weekend and it was packed to the gills. The Good: Judging from my 2 visits and what I was told by someone who is a regular, the bar tenders really know what they're doing. I've had the blood and sand, which was quite good. They served it in a chalice, which was kinda cool and different. I have also tried the Moscow Mule, it too was very good. They don't mix it with cheap ginger beer, they take pride in what they serve and use a higher quality soda. When it's not busy it would probably be a nice, quaint, intimate, place to have a drink. If it's not too busy and they have the time, the bartenders here are real cool and fun to talk to, but if it's busy they're here to take care of business and won't have much time for small talk. The Bad: This place is SMALL. Unless you like cramped quarters (and I don't) this could be a problem during peak hours. I don't know what it's like during the week but on the weekends you're pretty much elbow to elbow and seating is very limited too so you may very well have to stand. The Indifferent: They only have a handful of local craft brews available but why should they have more? Their specialty is cocktails. At least they don't just serve that domestic drool people refer to as Bud and Coors. My only real reservation with this place is how cramped it felt with a weekend crowd and the limited seating. For me, in kept me from being able to really relax. Despite mentioning their limited beer selection, that didn't affect my rating since they aren't trying to cater to the beer crowd (that would be like penalizing a Chinese restaurant for not serving burritos just because you like burritos). read more

I love a good Old Fashioned, and the Tigress has that. They also have an extremely diverse cocktail menu. I've had several items from it and have never been disappointed. The bartenders are friendly, precise and bar-knowledgeable. This makes for a 5-star drinking experience. And the prices are extremely reasonable, at $8/drink for most of their sig cocks (signature cocktails). The reason I gave Tigress a 3, however, is because it is not very comfortable or inviting. There have been times where I'm looking for a relaxing place to get a good cocktail and have simply not gone to Tigress because there is hardly anywhere to sit. I go there when I'm in a hurry and want a good drink, or if I'm tired after a nice dinner and want a quick nightcap before I head home. The experience could be so much better than it is with more space, seating, comfort, etc. read more

Needs some soft couches or something to make you feel more relaxed and swanky to go with the drinks. And about the drinks - well balanced & delicious. I once rented an apartment a few years ago that had an awesome walk-in closet. There was room in there for my mountain bike, fake Christmas tree, folding lawn chairs, extra blankets, and all my clothes. That closet was MUCH bigger than The Tigress! The other night 5 of us walked in to grab a drink and were overwhelmed at the crowd. By "crowd," I mean 12 people in the place! There just wasn't any room to either stand or sit. We had to do a 180...bummer. Ok, enough about how tiny the place is. If you have the time to wait about 10 minutes to get your drink, it usually is worth it. There's an exotic selection of mixed drinks. The "Blood & Sand" seems to be popular with my friends, but I'm partial to the Moscow Mule. The owner, Pam, is very nice and this pub seems to be a true labor of love. My advice to make this place a whole lot better is to expand and get faster bartenders. This place is too big for its britches. Call me bitter, call me a wet blanket, but I cannot give more than 3 stars to a place that I have only successfully been once out of four attempts. First attempt, not open on Tuesday...woops. 2nd attempt. Woo! It's open! The bartender is great, the drinks are strong and the place is a lot of fun to sit around in and talk. 3rd attempt. No parking, and the place looks PACKED...welp, off to barflys. 4th attempt. Again, no parking, and way too PACKED...on a thursday? back to barflys.. PLEASE! Four of us tried this place for the first time on Thursday evening around 7 pm. The owner was working the bar with one other employee, and there were maybe four other customers there. This place is tiny even by NYC standards, and we were lucky to commandeer the only large table/booth in the place. They served Live Oak Pilsner and Hefeweizen on tap along with a few other choices. One of my female friends ordered a Margarita on the rocks, and it packed a wallop. The owner is generous with her pours, and that's something to come back for. read more

I came in asking for something refreshing and a regular pointed me to the Moscow Mule. It's like a spicy jalapeño-tasting lemonade. I've been watching the barista and she/he is truly an artisan. It's a cool place if you like being enclosed in tight spaces with Hyde Parkers. read more

Awesome neighborhood pub that provides a long-needed North Loop drinking alternative to Parlor. The lack of space (maybe could fit 25) and bartender/owner Pam's conviviality leads to the type of neighborhood feel where several groups and solo drinkers can blend into one group conversation. They have about 6 taps and, on my first visit, 4 were represented by local microbrews (the other two were for Guinness and Abita). There's also a special $8 cocktail menu. There are no plans for adding food but Pam has a bunch of take-out menus available. Hopefully she'll convince Phara to sell her some gyro/souvlaki or falafel sandwiches. If you're in the 'hood, this is a great spot to stop in for a couple drinks. I don't recommend making a pilgrimage here from other parts of town only because I'm selfish :) read more
