I went here for happy hour on a weekday evening. Parking was a little tough even though the place was not packed. They have a good selection of beers on tap and cocktails. Their happy includes some classic cocktails like Moscow mules and margaritas for $6. This is good place for a small group of like 5 people or less. I came to Tigress on a Friday evening for happy hour. The Work Horse, our original destination, was super packed, so we decided to venture next door for a cocktail. Not too crowded around 5:30-6pm, but it filled up fast and was bustling by 6:30. The menu offers about 8 classic cocktails. Per Yelp recommendations, I ordered the Blood and Sand (off menu) which I was told by the bartender is named for the 1922 Valentino film. Scotch, sweet vermouth, cherry heering, and Oj. Quite tasty indeed. In addition to cocktails, Tigress offers about 5 beers on tap, from which you can order a half pint for $3, which is pretty awesome if you don't want a full beer or just want to try something. My primary gripe is the service. Only one bartender on Friday night? A second arrived around 8pm, as we were heading out. As other Yelpers have described, the bartender had no sense of urgency, often forgot things (like, which drink you ordered 20 minutes ago), and was extremely nonchalant, if not put off, by patrons asking for another drink or their check. There are other places in town to get great classic cocktails, but with much better service. read more

Popped in here on a whim with the Beau, he'd read about it and we wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It was at capacity when we came by early evening on a Friday, so we wandered around window shopping for a while. Was worth the wait. Seating is unusual (I'm a 40 year old career waitress) and limited. This place by it's very designed nature is not a spot to SHOOT for absolutely, have a back up. There is no way you can predict seat-ability. I think at capacity, looking around, they can seat maybe 25. But the alcohol is all delightfully top shelf and above, the drink menu has ONE price. 7$ for mixed drinks (5$ for a 20 oz 'imperial pint' of beers carefully selected) And the menu is so fun. I had the BLOOD & SAND, even the glassware was nifty. Blended scotch and Cherry Heering liqueur... citrusy. Rudolph Valentino would be proud. Seems a bit out of time and space for my little chunk of Austin where it lives, but I welcome it and it's very directed approach to an individual's dream. The mixologist on duty was a pro. Came here with a large group of friends and everyone just fell in the love with the place! We were all treated really well. I forgot to close my tab and they were ever so nice when I came by an hour after closing to pick it up. They hadn't even charged me gratuity, which kinda sucked, since I didn't have any cash. I will be back soon, though, to make up for that! I adore this place. It's cool without the pretentious stares and the trying too hard, can fit a few parties and 4-5 people at the bar, and can be easily overlooked if you don't know what it is. I think it is one of the gems of North Loop. The cocktails are creative and more unique than some of the other places around town that use typical things but just list them really fancy on their menus. Around St. Patrick's Day, they had a Green Drink, which was just the freshest mint, cilantro, pineapple, jalapeno, and lime juice and it was fantastic. They are around $8-10 if not more, which I guess is pretty average for craft cocktails around town. They also have a few select beers on tap that are good picks. I'm not a regular because I can't afford fancy cocktails all the time and do prefer more of the livelier places most of the time, but this is a great secluded and calm area for a chill night with a small group of friends.. and anyone in the neighborhood is in for a treat. read more

The ladyfriend and I are notorious for enjoying a real cocktail. Not one of those grody drinks with sweet and sour mix in them, but a real cocktail; one with alcohol that is only made better with other forms of alcohol within them. Somehow The Tigress Pub has been only a couple miles away for the last few years and we have never known about it. We found The Tigress Pub on a Monday night when we were out at another bar and gave them a ring. Unfortunately they are only open on Wednesday through Sunday nights, so we put it off initially. However, that Friday we were feeling adventurous and took a trip to north Hyde Park (North Loop area). It took us about 10 minutes to find The Tigress Pub, but it was well worth it. Tucked away in a corner was perhaps the smallest bar I have ever been to. With a (comfortable) seating capacity of no more then 20, The Tigress answered our prayers with delicious vintage cocktails. Enter the bar and you will quickly be greeted by the owner whose name escapes me at the moment. The bar itself is "cute" with a bunch of tigers decorating it. The owner is extremely friendly and will make you a drink off the menu if you know what you want (try the sazerac). She is an unending spout of knowledge about the drinks that she is serving. Many of the drinks on the menu were created by herself and you cannot get anywhere else. All of the drinks I have had were good, but some tend to be on the sweet side. So, I ordered off the menu for parts of the night. Let me preface this by saying that I am a straight whiskey guy most of the time, so my taste is a bit unusual. I tend dislike drinks with even a hint of sweetness. The bar has a fun atmosphere; the patrons are of all ages, but tend to be like-minded. We're here to have fun and avoid the d-bags that go downtown. No drama, just good drinks and good people. Check it out if you have an evening to relax and enjoy one of the most fun, new, areas of town that I have found. read more

This place falls apart on atmospherics for me. Sure the drinks are good, but it's an uncomfortable place to hang out and looks like a frat house where most of the furniture was removed. They can and should do better to make the place more inviting. read more

A great place off the beaten path! Intimate and NOT flashy......You can't beat the prices either. Classic and well made cocktails for $7 and "proper pint" (20 ounces) for $5 on several high quality beers....Pam is sweetheart of a gal who knows her stuff and also how to make you feel at home. No crazy distractions here either to take away from the low-key ambiance. Sure there are 2 mounted flat screen TVs, but they show classic movies and the volume is turned down. I really love this place. I'm glad it's small and cozy, and it's nice that the atmosphere is relaxed. The drinks were really quite good, but I have one big beef with them-- how do you not know how to make an old fashioned? There are just basic cocktails in the world every bartender should be able to make, whether or not it's on the menu. Extra points for the great beer selection, though, and very friendly bartenders. A few weeks ago, I called up a good friend explaining how tired I was of the usual West and East 6th roundabout weekends. I was feeling boring, uninteresting and simply...just like a lush that lacked flavor. My friend, a nearly native Austinite decided at that point that it was tiem for him to take me on a tour of the less traveled Austin area bars. In my own words: the Austin hidden gems Walking into the Tigress is like walking into a 1940's black and white film. You'd almost expect there to be fur coated women smoking cigarettes out of cigarette holders and Sherlock Holmes-ified dudes sitting around every one of their small tables. Tigress is a single room bar, with a few sparse tables and big sit down bar to the side with an expansive array of liquors. Very old New York filmy meets laid back Austin. The only thing missing was live jazz, which quite honestly, wouldn't fit in the small alcove of a bar. But regardless, Tigress is a gem, boasting a menu of innovative and delicious cocktails for nothing but decent prices. I'm not really one for mixed drinks (I find them to be too sugary with bitter aftertaste), but the French 75 was delectable. All drinks are $7 dollars and all the bar tenders are what you see is what you get in aura, but still friendly. Vintagey cool vibe. Will definitely be back. read more

Stopped by here the other night. The place is TINY. Not a lot of seats to choose from. 1 bartender, so a little bit of a wait for your drinks. Also, not a lot of parking. But the drinks are good. They specialize in prohibition-era cocktails which is clever and makes a fun drink menu (and history lesson). The bar is pretty. Attracts a nice crowd. I hope to be back. read more

This place is the cat's meow (pun intended!) Seriously, I love this bar. The drinks are hand-made every single time and are absolutely delightful. Plus, they are affordable and correctly portioned so you can try a variety of things without a) going broke or b) falling down drunk. The owner, Pam, is so warm and friendly and really makes you feel like a friend while you are there. The space is small, to be sure, but I like that kind of coziness in a place. The vintage glassware adds that personal touch to things, too. There really should be more quality-focused bars like this in Austin. read more

I met a few friends here Sunday night, and it's a good thing I only have a few friends, because--like everyone has mentioned--The Tigress is small. I think my bedroom is bigger, but my bedroom don't gots lots o' booze or a bartender (yet). There were around 5 beers on tap, including Live Oak Hefeweizen,(512) Pecan Porter and IPA (I think), along with Guinness and Abita Amber. The Pecan Porter was great on a cold, drizzly evening. I initially ordered the Moscow Mule, because it sounded awesome from the other reviews here. Pam, the owner/bartender, suggested the Moscow Mule's winter cousin--not sure whether it has a name, but substitute bourbon for the vodka (and maybe some other things I don't remember) in the Mule and you have a deliciously spicy adult beverage for those frigid Austin nights. read more

Been to the Tigress two days in a row. The first - a Thursday night - was fantastic. We were charmed just as every other reviewer was. Met the owner, she is very cool. It is a great cocktail bar that does not strive to be pretentious - like most of the ones downtown. The day after, a packed Friday night, stripped some of its charm; it was noisy because of the acoustics. The drinks are good, however sometimes they indulge in too much bitters. My first impression, however, was that there may not be a wide selection of brews and spirits to select from, but the cocktail menu is interesting and (from my limited experience) tasty. Tigress is a cool little neighborhood gem that's capitalizing on the "high end cocktail" craze. Lucky for them, they happen to make them better than most of their competitors. Tigress has a small bar, two or three tables, and a little standing room. I recommend going on a weekday when there are less people out. During my time there it seemed like locals popped in and out for a drink so tables turned over quickly. Stick around and you can get a seat! We were so impressed by the drink menu, the style of the place, and the friendliness (and intense focus) of the bartender. The French 75 is stellar. While nondescript on the outside (you may miss it as you drive/walk along) and small and intimate on the inside (I think there may be enough seats for about 15 people), this place packs a big punch...the cocktails are very good, freshly made to order and large and in charge. Went here after dinner one night with Katie M., Jeff M. and Erik W. and while half of the time we were there we had to stand until some of the tables cleared, it didn't matter because I was sipping on my cocktail with an old movie playing on the TVs and hanging out with good friends. A friend of mine recommended The Tigress Pub a while back. Another friend of mine recommended my wife and I having a date night the week before our wedding. And that we did. And we had the whole place to ourselves on a Tuesday night. The concept of their menu lends itself to limited options, which I can really appreciate in the context of a bar, in a culture where we are enslaved to options. With an ever changing, yet pared-down menu of cocktails, you could come once a week (most budgets probably wouldn't allow $10 cocktails on a weekly basis) and never have the same drink twice. But after our first visit, after tasting some funky twist on a Moscow Mule, my wife and I might miss it next time, if it's not around. Not much in the way of decor, this pub provides a funky, sometimes creepy space to have a finely crafted beverage. Oh, beer too. read more

Lovely little bar! Stopped in here for an after dinner cocktail and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is old-fashioned and quaint (in the best way), and the service was great. The whole menu looked amazing, but I chose the drink that spoke to my inner-leftist: The Communist. It was made of gin, orange heering, lemon and orange juice. Crisp and fresh. Really love this place. It's an intimate setting with plenty of seating. The menu changes every few months and normally I would love that, but the drinks are so good that the frequent changes almost make me a little sad!! We've been here a few times now because it's close to our place and the drinks keep us coming back! The cocktails range from about $8-$10, and contains several ingredients that blend together to create a delicate and refreshing cocktail. We a few months ago during the winter time and they had an amazing Hot Toddy with their own secret recipe - I can't even begin to describe how perfect it was. I think it had an egg yolk and nutmeg blend or something? Definitely elevated the drink. They also had an apple cider Moscow mule at the time as well. Their spring drinks are delicious as well - I tried their chili gimlet (?). It had a super light, peppery flavor that was just the right amount of refreshment I'm every bite. Love this little hidden gem! My friend Lindsey and I have been here twice now, both times on a Thursday evening after work. The place is adorable and every piece in the bar looks like it's been handpicked from neighboring vintage stores like Room Service and Hogwild! Charming art deco style glasses and mid-century bar accessories make the atmosphere super pleasant. The only drawback to The Tigress is its size which is minuscule at best. Since I've only been after work on a weekday I've been fortunate to find seating, however, I've heard complaints from friends and coworkers that trying to squeeze your way into the bar on a busy night is akin to trying to stomp onto the A train during rush hour in Manhattan - difficult and unlikely. If you go, I'd recommend this place for an after work drink. Avoid the weekend crowd since they get loud and the place gets packed. The signature cocktails are a dream and everything is $7! My French 75 was perfect (albeit incredibly potent). Lindsey is a big fan of their aviation. The first time we went they were playing some old movie on the TV. I really enjoyed this place, even with the limited drink menu. I love the ambiance, and I was thrilled to see that they're planning to expand into the space next door. I've always avoided it in the past because all I could see through the window was a crush of people, and joining that kind of nuttery was something I outgrew about the time I got my college degree, but the night we went, we got seats! (I attribute that stroke of luck to SXSW + spring break, since the whole place was relatively reasonably populated). Please, Tigress, keep expanding and I'll expand to a fifth star! Went to HH on a Tuesday, so maybe not the busiest night but thank goodness because it's small location. The crazy thing to me was that my friends that met me there said it used to be even smaller! The parking is a little wacky too but those are the only downfalls to this place. I thought the bartender was super friendly, as were the regulars, so that's always a plus. I kinda stick with beer or tequila but I like to think when a place specializes in cocktails, you get a cocktail. I ordered the Hawaiian Room which was some brandy, rum, pineapple and other fabulousness on a summer evening. I thought it was delicious and it was strong enough that I still felt ok about the $8 price. We were a group catching up and it was a perfect place to do that and we even noticed a book club next to us. read more

There's nothing like walking into a business (any business) and have the Owner passionate in what he/she is doing. The Owner (Pam) loves what's she's doing and make everyone welcome. Drinks are made with a lot of TLC. Please - if you're looking for a bar to get drunk, laid, rowdy, etc. - this ain't the place.
