This place was awesome. Went on a Friday evening and it was busy. Once we found a table, the entire staff was friendly. I had a margarita and my significant other had a Paloma. Both drinks were good and strong. We had the popcorn shrimp as a starter and it was a hearty portion and the aioli sauces were good. She had the grilled chicken salad with romaine, apples, walnuts and apples and it was huge. I had the Cajun shrimp & sausage pasta and it was amazing. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the sauce had nice favor and the sausage and shrimp were plenty. Definitely will come back to try more items on the menu. read more

The Truth about the Tin Room I will preface this review by stating I REALLY wanted to like this place. Cool signage, atmosphere, outdoor patio, slate bar top and the promise of a hand crafted cocktail await you - as fresh fruits and a juice press are prominently displayed. However, the service, quality, delivery, and price do not match the overall experience. A West Seattle native, I have friends who live in Burien, and we have tried many times over the last few years hoping it had improved. Aside from the addition of a very cool indie neighborhood theater, where they randomly show older movies (hence the additional star), there have been no improvements. This place truly deserves 1 star, Here's why: Consistently, we have experienced untimely and less than courteous service. The food is expensive for what you get and lack luster when it FINALLY arrives. Examples; more than once, the waitress walked away from the table WHILE one of our friends was trying to ask Questions to ultimately add to our order, and more notably, on several occasions, the male bartender (who always seems to be there) was flat out rude, with a piss-poor attitude and ZE-RO personality, except for that which he would 'turn on' for his female co-workers, and a *few* regulars, and it would turn off just as fast. On several occasions, the portions were shy and inconsistent. We tried the, "Hand made potato chips", - and they were, unmistakably, absolutely identifiably; Tim's Cascade chips you can get at any grocer. We laughed it off, but I HATE being lied to. Ultimately, we learned this place was very expensive for the neighborhood, the service and the quality, so we tried to, "show it the Love" during Happy Hour. We first found that they do not offer Happy Hour. (really?) At a later date, we discovered that they started to offer happy hour - but only on food. Tried it - and it was (basically) a joke. a handful of selected items discounted over a 2 hour window and it wasn't a true discount as we came to discover the portions were reduced. Not an unusual practice for happy hour - but most businesses then also reduce the price of selected beverages (at least the well drinks). Not at this time, is what we were told. THE FINAL STRAW; was when we heard from a friend that they finally improved their happy hour so we decided to give The Tin Room yet ANOTHER chance. We walked in on a Tuesday Afternoon at 5:20pm. This was during their, "Happy Hour." We were excited to learn that they finally, "improved' The happy hour. We were advised they were now (finally) offering Happy Hour specials on "most" of the cocktails. My friend ordered a double Belvedere & Tonic, and I ordered a Baccardi & Soda. We didn't even ask for any fancy juice pressed additives - just a lemon wedge. The rude / inattentive bartender (mentioned above) didn't even bother to ask if we wanted to order food and assumed we were done, - and handed us a bill. The total came to $28.80... FOR 2 COCKTAILS ON A TUESDAY AFTERNOON DURING HAPPY HOUR! Are you kidding!? We were blown away. Doubles or not, this price point is grossly egregious. These Were Downtown Seattle prices - in fact Higher. I haven't spent that much on 2 cocktails on a Friday night - not even at the likes of El Goucho or Canlis. Ridiculous, only begins to describe it. Most places in the Downtown / Cap Hill area - for example - during Happy Hour are offering an extended happy hour, charging about $9 double Belvedere, and Baccardi is in most Wells for around $5 or $6. Another thing worth mentioning, is that Not only is the Tin Room not Shy about their BIG prices, -their pour sure isn't...but it doesn't stop there either. Most bars build the tax into the cost of the beverage. Ergo, on a $6 Cocktail, the responsibility of the tax is assumed by the establishment. However, The Tin Room's Bill was also not shy about passing the tax on to their customers - who are ALREADY being grossly overcharged. Especially for the neighborhood. When you ponder the real estate cost (rent - etc.) VS Downtown Seattle / Cap Hill, -you really start getting a clear picture of how this place is taking advantage of its patrons. I will call a spade a spade: They're greedy. We walked away after this experience having made the firm and final decision to never set foot in there again. Its too bad, because we really wanted to check out a flick there in the tiny movie house... but when you burn a hole in my wallet (so many times over) - you burn a hole in my stomach, and I can't stomach the though of knowing I'm being flat out raped. *IF you must - absolutely MUST go there, avoid the main bar / restaurant all together and go there just for a movie. The theater side is to the right. But know that each and every dollar you spend there is supporting owners who don't care about anything other than lining their own pockets. read more

Came here on a recommendation from a friend who is a cut-throat-serious home BBQer, him claiming that he had never had better chicken wings in his life. I was skeptical, as I rarely get all that moved by a plate of wings, most of which, outside of a couple of notable chinese restaurants we frequent, are about as undistinguished a food as a can of Beef-A-Roni. So, we go to Burien (where we never go, except to buy buffalo at the wonderful B&E Meats - best beef jerkey on the planet!) and hunt up Tin Room, which turns out to be the de facto centerpiece of a tiny row of the sorts of shops that, in other suburbs, represent the "young and trendy" section of town. Burien - which is anything but either "young" or "trendy" - wraps around these handful of quaint shops like a giant corn tortilla around a filet mignon, rendering the little area rather forlorn and a bit sad. It's about four p.m. when we get there and the dinner menu is not really in force, yet. We tell them we've driven from Bellevue for the wings and they either take pity on us for having to live in Bellevue (my bet) or they're just that accomodating but they agree to rustle us up a mess 'o' wings, post haste. We ordered salads and a couple cups of soup and two beers. I do the default Mac & Jack's while Judye gambles on something which she has never - astoundingly - tried before, a whiskey sour. They squeeze all the fruit for the bar juices at Tin Room, right there on the bar with an antique Hamilton-Beach (I think) juicer, and Judye is a sucker for anything fresh-squeezed. "How could you possibly not have tried a whiskey sour?" I ask, bewildered. I don't even drink mixed drinks AT ALL, and I've sampled one before. "Just never came across it," she smiled. We have now established that Judye likes Whiskey Sours. I tasted it and I can see why. The fresh lemon sour, balanced with the fresh orange sweetness, really lights up their good bar Bourbon and she sips it appreciatively while I slowly savor my lovely Mac & Jack's. After a very decent interval, our wings show up, steaming hot, nicely dusted with a very savory seasoning mix and fried just to the perfect point of crispness. Folks, these are wings as you will seldom have them: fresh and crisp, not smothered, choked, cloaked in Red Devil sauce and butter, like the vile traditional Buffalo wings. The meat is perfect, tender, moist and succulent. The skin is crisped to buttery perfection. There are only six of the wing-drummie things on my plate and I think, "Crap, I'm gonna want more!" But I find I don't. The things are perfectly satisfying and leave me comfortably full and happy. And our salads, which usually occupy almost none of my attention as an adjunct to my meals, were absolutely dazzlingly fresh and dressed with a vibrant, garlicky gem of a dressing. Even the house blue cheese dip, accompanying the wings, was as good as I've had as a wing's wingman maybe ever around here. These recommendations from friends so seldom work out that I almost feel like throwing a block party when one is actually even better than advertised. The Tin Room certainly exceeded our expectations, - in food, service, and atmosphere - by a mile! read more

Ok, be patient with me as there is a lot to tell about The Tin Room Bar & Grill also known just at the Tin Room located in olde town Burien, Washington. Dan House, owner, also known as Dan the Sausage Man, has two parts to his business: Tin Room and Tin Theater. The Tin Room (the restaurant side) has always been there since the day he opened, but the Tin Theater was a sausage shop that Dan's mom ran selling summer sausage of Dan's recipe and making. She also sold mustards and other things throughout the store. When Dan's mom retired about 4 years ago Dan remodeled the place, dug out the back and built the Tin Theater, which was a great idea! Perhaps you are wondering how I know such details about the Tin Room in Burien of all places. Well, my business partner and best friend, the late Greg King, lived in Normandy Park just adjacent to Burien but on the Sound side. Greg was a single guy and ate at the Tin Room a couple of times a week and since we worked together that meant I ate there, too; two to three times a month. The people, the ambiance, and the great food still to this day bring me back a couple times a year and I live a state away. But on a side note just to let you know how amazing Dan and his people are at the Tin Room, when Greg passed away three years ago on St. Patrick's Day, the Tin Room was packed that afternoon but I called and told Dan about Greg and that his brother and I and four others would be coming up to pull a pint in salute to Greg and have dinner, Dan cleared a table for 6 right in the middle of his restaurant amongst the crowd of celebrators. The food was absolutely delicious. I had been craving meatloaf and looked on Yelp and this place had good news all about it, naturally we headed out that way. I liked the atmosphere. A unique theme and good menu. We ordered our drinks and our meals and that was about that. It was like we were invisible. That alone is enough to get one star in my book. The entire point of going out is to get served. Our service was the bare minimum. I understand difficulty when it's busy, but there were as many staff as customers. Nice local hangout with tons of atmosphere. The Tin Room is a rehabilitated tin manufactory. They have created couple of rooms of bar/grill and a small movie theatre. The menu is typical grill: appetizers, sandwiches, and the like. Our visit was short so we only enjoyed a couple of local tap beers and some cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped jalapenos. Tasty and nicely prepared bar munchies. A good place to wet your whistle if you are in the area. read more

Bring pennies. DRAFT BEER: $6.02. That's right: six dollars and TWO CENTS! We've had hit and miss moments at The Tin Room for the 3 years we've been going there, but for the most part we've always liked it there. The misses were never anything significant to Yelp! about, but yesterday was beyond strange. We went for happy hour before attending The Burien Film Office's get together in the bar's movie theater. Despite having ordered the same things every time we do their HH and point blank telling the waiter we were doing happy hour, my wife was charged full menu price for her chicken burger and/or sandwich (seems that terminology makes a difference now, even though it's the exact same item) and, for the first time ever, we were "up-charged" $2 each for having a side salad instead of fries. The manager corrected the price of the chicken burger/sandwich but insisted on the up-charges for salad substitution. A never before billed up-charge on happy hour food? What's the point? And my wife pointed out that it was the smallest chicken breast she'd ever seen; it was more like a chicken tender. She dubbed it the "world's smallest chicken breast!" We paid, vowing not to get duped like that again. Then the evening got stranger--when we went to the side bar by the theater, I ordered a full price beer (no longer HH, which ends at 5 pm). I handed the bartender a $20 bill and he gave me my change: $13.98. Hmm, 98 cents...? The film event was beginning, so I left the change, which included pennies, and we went into the theater. I'm not going to include how bizarrely the event proceeded, because it was not the fault of the organizers who have good intentions and are great people, but it was open to the public and some of that public were clearly confused about its purpose. Afterwards, film people were still milling in the bar area so I thought I'd get one more beer and hang out. When the bartender brought it to me, I paused and asked him how much it was. He calmly said, "$6.02." SIX DOLLARS AND TWO CENTS? Who prices a drink like that? Luckily my wife had a nickel in her pocket, so I put down $7.05 and told him to keep the change, laughing at the absurdity of the pricing, and I kindly suggested he mention this oddity to management. So folks, if you drink beer and pay cash, BRING PENNIES! And be sure to ask what each and every item you may purchase to eat will cost, because $2 unannounced up-charges on $8 burgers and sandwiches really deflates the effort of getting there early to save some money. I'm sure they'll work this out, but these ill-conceived new pricing concepts are a "miss" worth sharing here. read more

Sorry Tin Room, I really wanted to like you. I just wasn't a fan. My friend and I stopped here after a long week of work, ready to unwind a bit. Unfortunately there is no evening Happy Hour, but we stayed anyway to try it out. The Tin Room is really cute and has a fun atmosphere with lots of regulars. Lots of good beer on tap, but I just felt that the food was WAY overpriced and just not that great. We ordered the pizza special, which was $11, tiny, and not very good. We also shared a salad, and a plate of nachos. Our total came out to about $45 for two beers (total) and some bland food. Pretty disappointing. read more

I really wanted to like this place... Arrived about 1:45 pm on a Sunday, there were a total of 4 people inside. My husband and I wanted to watch the Sounders game, which started at 2 pm. We were told that after the baseball game, they would switch it over. The Mariner's game was in the bottom of the 8th inning at the time. There are only 2 tv's in the place and they can only play the same station. Meanwhile, right at kickoff for the Sounders game another gentleman comes in and inquires about the Sounders game, and then another couple came in to watch it and right after them, another woman wanted to watch it, too. Still on baseball at this point. 1 couple of the original 4 people were obviously not watching the baseball game, but the couple at the bar were. At this time though (Sounders had already kicked off, I was following on Twitter) there were 6 customers waiting to watch the Sounders (who were up 1-0 against Portland!) and 2 actually watching the baseball game. We ordered 2 beers, and waited, and waited, and waited. Baseball takes f o r e v e r ! After 45 minutes if waiting for the Tin Room staff to switch it over, we closed out and left. We missed the entire first half of the game, waiting for a frickin inning and a half of baseball to end! The Mariner's game was still going. My frustration comes in when there are a majority of customers wanting to watch something else, and the staff's refusal to do anything about it. I get that this is not a sports bar, but simple math 6 is greater than 2 should have been used here. And also the Sounders are much more fun to watch than the Mariner's! read more

We were shopping the neighborhood and looking to buy a house in this area. So we thought we'd check out the downtown area and get a feel for our potential new town. We brought a friend with us because we had visited olde town burien the day before and found the olde town charm was amazing and just had to get a second opinion. We walked in around 12:30/1pm on a Sunday. There were only about 6 other people in the place, but you'd think it was 60 by how slow the service was. The bartender was completely oblivious. She was very focused on her side work and not on us. We waited for about 30 minutes before she took our drink order,not lunch, our drinks. And we didnt even have water....she never brought it and we had to ask. She was very attentive to people she knew and some people that came in much later after us, had drinks and their food within about 20 minutes. We sat there, at the bar, waiting. And waiting. AND WAITING. We tried to engage in friendly conversation hoping she'd pay more attention to us, or even just take our order. It was abysmal. We almost walked out but we were so hungry by that point that we just tolerated it. Our food was okay, nothing remarkable. I desperately want to like this place because it's really cool inside and they have a theater, but the service is horrible. I shouldn't have to beg for service and pull teeth to get waited on when there's about 10 people in the entire restaurant. I'm very concerned about what it's like on Friday or Saturday, if this is how bad Sunday is. I really hope the service improves because Seattle is only 10 minutes away, and there's too much competition out there to be complacent. I'd rather support the local eateries and shops in Olde Town Burien, so I'm keeping an open mind but they really need to work on their service. read more

This is a great little bar! We have been here twice in the past year and a half and it has always been awesome! The menu is small, but as a HUGE fan of Gordan Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares.....that is a good thing. I have to say they quite possibly have the best mashed potatoes I have ever eaten. Another plus is that the drinks are very well made with FRESH squeezed fruit juices. That is rare! I am very fond of their Manhattan. Also on certain nights they offer 1/2 price wine which is nice. It can get very busy on any night, so I recommend going early. All in all, great service, atmosphere and food. Try it out! read more

Well.....been here at least 5 times and, really love the atmosphere and, food is good but, a little pricey for what it is. I could understand if it were AMAZING but... unfortunately it's not. We just moved here a year ago from Seattle and really want to patronize our local restaurants but, its hard! we are still finding ourselves going to the big city! I also am blown away with the fact that there is no happy hour! My friends get together every month for happy hour and it was my turn to pick. I had all my friends come to Burien for happy hour. Stopped in here for brunch on the weekend and was not disappointed. Fast friendly service, expeditiously brought the water, menus, and took the orders along with some friendly chatter. I have been going here for well over 5 years now. It's an absolute staple. All out of town guests that come in this is the first place we go, coincidentally, we continue to go there every night there after. The drinks are phenomenal, food delicious, staff friendly and the decor, well it's in an old tin shop. Order the Whiskey Sour, there is no jarred sweet and sour mix here, it's all fresh squeezed to order. The food is equally amazing. I love, LOVE the Bourbon grilled meatloaf and Chicken marsala. My favorites are the Chicken Piccata, the chicken sandwich and many more things. I like the drinks and found them to be plenty strong. I like the new bench on the back deck and the new space inside. I always enjoy both the food and drinks at the Tin Room. It's a great little bar in downtown Burien with TV's to view Sports games, and a nice neighborhood place to hang with friends. The food consistently is good, my favorite is the Cajun Shrimp Tacos, but the burgers get great reviews from friends. There are candles lit at night and the lights are low creating a warm and inviting feeling and the wait staff is ALWAYS on point, not to mention, the kitchen staff has YET to put out a bad plate! I've loved my food EVERYTIME! I will come back ALL the time! This place is loud! But the food is tasty and the outdoor seating is nice in good weather. The service here is a little slow when they are busy but the servers are always nice & friendly. Grilled chicken burrito is excellent and is probably our favorite item on the menu. Chicken tenders are surprisingly good, moist and flavorful.
