Absolutely love this place. The food never fails and it's such a great representation of an Irish pub. It's homey and decorated perfectly. There is a quieter dining room beyond the bar side of the restaurant as well. The owner and manager are both wonderful people (from Ireland) and the waitstaff is always friendly and welcoming. The food is incredible, my husband and I always rotate between the short rub, Buffalo chicken Mac n cheese, and authentic Irish shepherds pie. The fried corn beef hash cakes are also incredible! My friend and I met at Tinker's at 4 PM on a Friday. The daytime bartender was phenomena, the nighttime bartenders were rude with terrible judgement. It is too bad because our favorite regular place to go had closed so we were hoping this could be our new spot, but we will never go back. read more

Went there last Wednesday with a group of people, sat in the dining room. Everything was great until we saw mice scurrying across the dining room floor. Paid our tab quickly and we told the manager who said "yeah we had to leave the door open last night to air the place out and there's an animal feed close by". Huh - that was the reason? Perfect spot for hearty brunch for our large group of 20. We shared a private room with another large party and had the brunch buffet that was in the room. The food was pretty good and was a mix of Irish and American brunch items. You had everything from blood sausage to waffles. There was also an omelette station and carving station with roast beef. Not to mention a dessert spread with quite a few options. I also saw there was a Bloody Mary bar as well with all the fixings. Comfort food at its best and above average for what you typically get at a bar/tavern. The atmosphere was great! Live Irish music on a rainy Sunday afternoon in a cozy bar setting. We recently visited Tinker's Son after several years away. It was actually a meal in the restaurant just across the street that prompted us to give it another shot. We missed the homey, unpretentious feeling and the comfort food that is served here. We went on a Wednesday night for the Irish music - more on that later. The atmosphere here is very casual. Table tops are covered with names and images carved into their tops over the years by maybe some more uninhibited patrons. The waitress was from Cork. I asked because I heard her brogue. The food was excellent - HOT, well prepared and tasty without being gobbed up with seasonings and sauces. My wife had salmon and I had the shepherd's pie. My meal was so hot I had to wait quite a while for it to cool down. That is a huge plus for me. We had plenty enough for some boxed take home but couldn't stop eating so cleaned out plates. The deserts were also comfort food - apple crisp and bread pudding. Simple, hot when they arrived with two scoops of ice cream on top and simply delicious. I am sorry we waited so long to return here. The music was a nice touch but I think the musicians were trying hard not to be too loud and disturbing. I would have liked it much louder - like it is in an Irish pub. We will definitely return here but probably not the place across the street, which felt a bit fussy in comparison. read more

Last month my husband and I went to Tinker's Son for first time since moving to South Shore 4.5 years ago. The husband is a Guinness's fan so he was thrilled that they had it on tap. They also serve up properly poured pints of Guinness and have a great selection of beer, wine & liquor. How this place has any One Star ratings is a total mystery to me. A perfect meal here would consist of the Curry Chips followed with Shepherds Pie and a pint of Guiness or Smithwicks. Food was good, but not worthy of the price. Beer menu was only on chalkboard which was too far to see. Asked the server what they had for IPA on tap. She pointed to the chalkboard and said they had a lot (they had 4). She named one I said sure I'll take that. She came back and said they didn't have it (so only 3 now) but she chose another one and that if I didn't like it she would change it. The table we had was broken. I leaned on it and it flipped my wife's root beer all over her. Hostess was helpful offered another one which my wife declined. Without help from the server or a manager, she ended up lugging the table away by herself to get fixed only after she walked by again and I suggested they get the table fixed before someone else has an incident. A manager or the server never came over. The Bill came $5.00 for a root beer, $10 for a 12 ounce IPA which they didn't have and $8 for the 16 oz. ones I did have. To top it off there was a 3% "administrative fee" (not sure if this was because I paid by credit card). The bill was over $100 including the rib eye special which was $45. This is not a cheap breakfast place trying to scrape by. With $45 entrees there should be no administrative charge. Not recommended and wouldn't go back. read more

But it gets 2 stars for its food, and I ordered 5 dishes for my group and we all came to the same conclusion that the food looks great but the taste is very bland. I intentionally went there during non-peak hours to see how good the food was when they weren't getting slammed with diners and ideally could take more time and care with the food. But even so the food was poorly seasoned. I'll probably have to go back at some point because based off of what my friends told me and other reviews on this site, I was expecting the food to be great. Had our first meal here and it certainly won't be our last. The atmosphere, the friendly staff, and the food made for a great experience. The place felt familiar and yet we'd never been. The fireplace, the decor, it all just works. The curry fries ($11) were tasty and hearty, covered in a thick curry sauce with lots of depth of flavor and bits of vegetables. The Tinkers salad ($15) was nice and lighter than a Cobb salad. It was terrific as was the kids fish & chips which was gigantic. My wife really enjoyed her Reuben sandwich ($16) which featured some tasty corned beef. All in all, this place is awesome and I'm glad we ventured to it. The perfect place to enjoy a heaping helping of a hearty brunch on a rainy morning! Great omelettes, and the servers always greet you with an Irish smile! The live music is a nice touch, I saw a young man sing my favorite Beatles song, and he was great. Another group of girls sang an oldie, Creep by Radiohead. The live music brings a smile to this old woman's face! I miss when musicians would play, and we could listen to real rock and roll and not any mumble crap. A deserved bump up because this place can grill a cheese! And when the fries are right, they're spot on. And they've got a good number of taps for local brews. And because as long as the season lets them, they have an expansive open-air patio with a tented cover and minimal road noise. I'm still a little iffy on some of the entrees, as they've been inconsistent through the visits, but I've never had a bad sandwich, so definitely put 'em on the short list for solid lunch choices. read more

Costs rising every where, and no one can blame it on 'supply chain issues' by now, but yes...Food is still wholesome and good quality, professional service, but it can get very loud to where it's difficult to hear the people at your own table unless they raise their voice. There are several table around, but we sat at the bar. A Red Sox game was on the TV, and our resolution to have 'just one drink' went out the door as we watched the game. The bartender knew her stuff and was attentive. There are a few beers on tap and a variety of liquors to choose from. They offer wi-fi, just ask for the password.
