We went back today and with the weather being so hot The Tipsy Cow's Air Conditioning had not been working unless in the past I remember differently and we had just eaten outside. Today we chose to eat inside and we and yes the waitresses were obviously sweltering . We were going to leave but we were hungry after fishing and the food is always good. We ate both having delicious burgers and the waitress was nice . For some reason I left wondering why a business would not offer free or discounted sodas or at least leave ice water on the table. It was extremely hot the waitresses shirts were obviously sweated through. I don't blame them just management and I know that it's a small island not many choices to go eat. Not many places for them to go work. Fabulous burger and a dry mouth. read more

I wished I read the negative reviews before I ate there but I can confirm the customer service can be more friendly. I felt like we they didn't want our business when we arrived. There wasn't a hostess there when we showed up and then three servers took turns to say hold on for the hostess and then had no accountability when they said, 'I don't know where she is..'. Finally somebody said they were full up and tried to scare us with a 30 - 45 min wait when there were obvious tables open. We tried to understand what was going on and asked the next up server if they just didn't have the servers which made them a little friendlier. Then all of sudden a huge group left so the next server had no choice to seat us. Meanwhile, several other customers showed up behind us which put more pressure on the service. The next up server left to go clean an available outside table, and then 10 seconds later another server came up and tried to steer us away again saying no seats are open. We told this new server the next server got us to straighten out their lack of communication, and they readmitted they didn't know where the hostess was. We ended getting seated and waited another 15 to have our drink order put in. She seemed busy so we ended up putting in everything in at the same time. I had the clams and a pretzel, my wife had the shrimp rice bowl. Everything did come out fresh and super salty and not very good. Drinks were strong and mid, I won't go there again. read more

We have dined here before and decided this time to try the burgers. I will say they are probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. We got to watch dolphins as we enjoyed our delicious burgers! Cedar Key took a serious beating from hurricanes and is coming back but challenges remain. We were glad the Tipsy Cow is open. We had read mixed reviews, wide ranging. I made sure that I was not hungry as long waits for food were mentioned. We had a nice table overlooking the Gulf and were entertained by dolphins immediately off shore. There was also a musician playing. It took an hour plus for the food to come out. Food was good and we enjoyed the meal. But if you are impatient or prone to being "hangry", better know what you are getting into. Not many choices currently in Cedar Key, easily half are still out of commission, if you go to the Cow, relax and enjoy the view, but good chance you'll be doing some waiting. read more

We went downstairs instead and Brian took care of us. If you go, sit outside and order food. They don't want your business if you are just getting drinks. Her burger order was correct, my lightly blackened grouper sandwich with no tartar sauce arrived with tarter and had to be done again. My husband and I both ordered tacos and you would have thought they took the boat out to catch the fish before serving. It took FOREVER. Server was rushed and not personable. The salsa for chips & salsa was Costco bought (I really hate that salsa) and food was just "ok". I ordered non-alcoholic versions of one of their cocktails and was charged full price for both. $20 for juice? Food and service was ok. However the reason I am giving this restaurant a 1 star is their sneaky way of including an automatic gratuity on the check (which is fine) but not mentioning it. The server presented the bill and waited in front of me to sign it and watched me add an additional gratuity of 20%. She made no mention of there being a gratuity and since i was pressured into signing in while she waited I just added the gratuity, I don't believe the tip line included that it was an additional gratuity. Once someone in my party mentioned the gratuity was added i asked the server about revising the bill and she would not let me. I complained to my credit card company but they wouldn't fix it. Ultimately no one to blame but myself but obviously this left a VERY BAD taste in my mouth and enough to write this poor review in hopes that other people avoid this shady restaurant. read more

Wow! What a disappointment this place has turned out to be. They don't have air conditioning and haven't had it for years... according to the staff. It's 8:00pm with a heat index of 104. The owner is usually spotted in the dining room on his laptop when he isn't in the kitchen. He doesn't greet customers, ask them how things are, or thank them for coming in. Spend money on a window unit for your staff and customers!!! Absolutely ridiculous. This place used to be fun with air conditioning, a Dave Matthews theme, and a jukebox. Now it's a hotbox. I can no longer recommend this place like I used to. read more

The bartender/owner was as pleasant as a fence post. A customer asked a question and she told him he was confused for asking. Referred to another customer as needing to get her story straight in reference to a requested adjustment for a drink order. The host disappeared and left customers wondering if they should seat themselves. Waited a long time for our food.. sliders and fried shrimp. read more

The food was good, but the service was the worst we've had in many years ... We got moved to 3 different tables (the hostess was no help, in fact, she had a bit of an attitude) - there were 4 of us ... 2 of us got our food in about 45 minutes - the other two was over an hour. I'm trying to be sympathetic to them recovering after the hurricane....but this is flat out unacceptable. When I asked about a little something off the bill to compensate, it was a flat out no. We love Cedar Key, but the next time we're there, Tipsy Cow won't be on our list of go to's. And the worst part was we had friends from up north with us ... Customer service most definitely needs to be improved. We were there for 35 minutes and did not receive our food. There was nobody in line when we arrived, and no one told us that it was going to be a 45 minute to hour wait on food, because had they told us we would not have waited 35 minutes. read more

Four stars for location and I would give three for service and food. The food was fine. Beer selection not as good as other places nearby. Service friendly to a point but I think they're maybe trying to turn tables faster than we were ready. Sit on the deck...can't beat this view! We tried a variety of items including shrimp po-boy, wings, shrimp tacos, chips and guac, street corn, mac and cheese etc. We are snackers! The Tipsy Cow, located upstairs in this seaside building, is a fun place to grab a drink in Cedar Key. On a busy weekend you might not be able to get an outside table overlooking the ocean, so plan accordingly. They have a full bar and also serve food, but I will say that the food service was pretty slow. To the point we had to ask if they had forgotten our order. I would visit again but skip the food and go right for the drinks while looking out at the ocean. read more

Visited here for lunch on February 28. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. Sat outside at a table and watched the dolphins and pelicans play. I do not see the burger I had on the online menu, but it had an Hawaiian name and had grilled pineapple on it. Well worth the wait. Staff was friendly and took the time to interact with not only us but the other customers as well. Would recommend this to anyone. Me and my family were extremely excited to eat at this restaurant, we had been here before with ease. The hostess had taken away our drink but hadn't said anything about the food so we thought it was ok. The only reason we brought in food was because of a dietary restrictions. The waitress took our orders with ease and no problems. Out of nowhere the owner came stomping out of the bar area and informed us that we couldn't bring food in. We had informed her that the hostess acted like it wasn't an issue. She had then said "Well I'm telling you know so that doesn't matter." We then politely asked why since it didn't seem like a big deal since others were ordering and giving them service. She then began to yell at us embarrassing and causing a big scene in front of the other customers saying that we needed to leave. She then called us "bitchy" and we said that we are no longer giving them service after years of eating here. She said she didn't know what the "fuck" we were saying. The bathroom doors also don't lock and the stairs are ratchet. This restaurant would be great if the owner didn't act like a incompetent "asshole" as said by the owner.. The good: The view was nice, right outside in the water. We had the pleasure to watch dolphins play while we ate. The bad: The food left a lot to be desired. The buffalo shrimp had minimal sauce and did not come with dip, we had to ask. The groovy fries were just okay. The ugly: We didn't see any non-alcoholic beverages on the menu, however we saw a mixed drink made with sweet tea (and it is Florida so everyone has sweet tea) the drinks description added mint and lemon to the tea. We asked the waitress if we could get that without alcohol. Just a sweet tea with the mint and lemon added, as it sounded refreshing (it was!). We ordered a total of two each (4). When the bill came they charged us the cost of the alcoholic beverages, which was $10 per drink! We thought that it must be a mistake and my husband went in to ask and they told him that because we added the mint and lemon that the bartender had to make it, therefore they charged us the cost of an alcoholic beverage vice a sweet tea! He shook his head and we paid. Terrible way to scam $20! We went to another bar in Island later that day and ordered the same thing and they charged us for a sweet tea. Hubby & I split the meatball sliders and Tater Kegs. Yum . The meatball sliders are made to order with marina sauce and topped with a whipped mozzarella. They are super good!! The Tater Kegs on the menu say they are oversized Tater tots. Let me tell you....these are home made with bacon and cheddar INSIDE! Sooooo good. They come with a "secret Frenchy's sauce that was okay for me. I ate mine drowned in Louisiana hot sauce. The tots are amazing! A pleasant surprise because I am not especially a tots person. Excellent customer service! Delicious fresh clams , we had the mahi sandwich and the brisket everything tasted very nice and fresh , even the fries really good ones ! The location it's beautiful old fashioned wood looking nice outdoor seating with ocean views and breeze and the sound of the seagulls on the background with splashing waves very romantic , they are very pet friendly , welcomed our puppy with water and they have an actual doggy menu ! Including chicken breast, burgers, steak , ice cream! Just amazing! Heaven ! We had such a relaxing peaceful lunch time . It's was truly a special experience.
