Sat at the bar with my friends and ordered a Grey Goose on ice. Holy crap, talk about liberal pours and cool pricing. Guess I've lived in Hawaii so long I expect a skimpy 1.5 ounce top shelf drink to cost a minimum $16. This was a liberal 3 ounce at $8. The Peach Mule, menu drink, was awesome. Any beer on tap can be tasted before you buy which is a fantastic offer for serious beer drinkers. A lot of old favorites on the food menu with new twists, prepared well and served by happy-to-be-there servers. The Tipsy Cow Burger is off the charts good. The Fried Curds, tasty. The Beer Battered Onion Rings were thick and probably the best I've ever consumed. Beautiful, thick, crisp....I'm drooling just writing this. My favorite thing served (next to those awesome Onion Rings) was Mike's Pickles. A menu item that had me begging for a jar, gallon please, to take home to Hawaii. Unfortunately the pickles are a secret recipe and the not sold in any jar containers. Tried to get the recipe but that was not to be bought or given. I will return next trip to Madison. First visit, got the tipsy burger (cheese, onions, bacon, tipsy sauce) and this may easily be my favorite burger anywhere. While most of my burger reviews try to be objectionable as possible rating each burger for what they are regardless of toppings and such, if I were to order a burger with my favorite toppings cooked exactly how I like it, if I were to dream how a burger made just for the me and my specific tastes would taste, this burger would be it. The onions were sautéed and messy, the cheese, melted and....cheesy, the bacon perfectly crisp and just the right amount of sauce to give it a little extra flavor as if the butter needed anything extra. It was amazing and although I've heard there are a ton of great burger spots in Madison, it'll be hard to get to them with Tipsy calling my name each time I'm in town. The service is timely and courteous, drinks are high quality and of wide variety, and food is definitiely better than those around the square. A couple of highlights to emphasize here. One is obviously the tipsy burger, it has been recognized at the national level as one of the best cheeseburgers in the United States. The other is the truffle fries, which have an addicting/cant put it down flavor. Finally the cheese curds, ask for them to be tossed in buffalo sauce. There are nightly specials on the menu, where you can get a popular food item at discount and a speciality menu for those who dont like monotony in their food options. Also a trivia night. Turns out, I had another meal's worth of food to take home. We shared the cheese curds with ranch dressing as well. The cheese curds were the best we've had in the area so far! Great texture, size, and perfect amount of breading. The fries had a great flavor- the bulgogi was flavored well and the sauce that looks like cheese sauce actually had a nice, tart kimchi kick that cut through the heavier flavors perfectly. Fries were done well! The wings were average, but I really enjoyed the parmesan peppercorn dry rub. I only wish the skin was crisper. This is a great place to hang out with friends. Cool bar with good a beer selection, awesome bar food menu, and great cheese curds. This place was a few blocks from my hotel downtown. I stopped here for a late lunch. I sat at the bar. The place has a well-kept college bar feel. It looks like an awesome neighborhood bar to catch the game. The beer selection included a bunch of good local craft beers. The bartender was super cool. It wasn't very busy, but he was still impressively attentive. I got a beer and the curds. The curds were the best I ever had. The white cheddar they use is delicious. It had a great batter. Looking for a place to eat in Madison, our first choice had been closed for a private event. We stumbled onto The Tipsy Cow in Yelp and later stumbled upon it walking downtown. We decided to give it a shot. We split a plate of cheese curds which were delicious. For my entree, I got the Friday Fish Fry with cod and my husband got the specialty burger. We were both really happy with our orders. My fish was tender and delicious, and the fries were perfectly fried. My husbands burger was stacked, and he got white truffle fries-- sooo good!! It is overused on Yelp! We have all said it, and today I am going to say it again.... The Tipsy Burger may be the" best burger I have ever eaten". Buy this time I mean it! The Tipsy burger is a classic double, with 2 strips of top notch bacon, 2 different types of cheese (including 3 year old Wisconsin Cheddar!) along with "Tipsy Sauce" which I believe is souped up thousand island dressing. My mouth is still watering thinking about how good this burger is! You have to try it. We also ordered a 1/2 side of Onion Rings and a 1/2 side of Goat Cheese Curds. I liked the Goat Curds a lot. (Another must try!) the onion rings where good, but were very bready. Some people might love their rings like this, I tend to like the thinner variety. I was also please with the prices. The Tipsy Burger was $8 and I really like that you could order 1/2 sides for half price. Oh yeah.. also tried the Kentucky Pumpkin Beer. I thought it sucked! But I hate almost all craft beers so please don't put much into my review of any beer! To be completely honest I really should have taken a point off for the service. I had been wanting to try out this cute little bar/restaurant for awhile and I'm glad I did. We tried both their regular and goat cheese curds and I tried the turkey and havarti sandwich with an added side of fries (their sandwiches don't come with a side). My sandwich honestly exceeded my expectations and I think they did a great job coming up with a unique flavor profile with the tomato and paprika aoili and bacon. I was a little disappointed in the size of the large side of fries, and they were nothing special so I would probably pass on them in the future. The cheese curds were great, not the best I've had in Madison but definitely worth the price. The only other issue I had was that the service was pretty slow and our lunch ended up taking about two hours for two people. They had a pretty vast selection of liquor and quite a few beers on tap though, so it seems like it would be a nice place to stop for a drink. I took 2 of my grand kids here for lunch yesterday. To start, the staff was super friendly! The restaurant was clean and nice inside...also a nice patio for outdoor dining was available. I had the BLT, and it was one of the best I've EVER had! The bread was fresh and really good. I believe they had a heritage tomato slice on it...so good! We tried the alligator bites as an appetizer and even the kids were impressed! A coworker and I were in town for a conference and had just finished up setting up our booth. We were starving and I remembered reading about the Tipsy Cow being a cheap lunch option in the area (by Monona Terrace Convention Center). We came in around 1:30pm and were seated right away. We started off with by splitting an order of their Fried Cheese Curds, which were served with ranch dressing. They were pretty good. I had the Grilled Uphoff Farm Ham & Cheese Sandwich, which cost $8, and featured local ham with 3 year Wisconsin cheddar cheese. It was really good, but also very heavy and oily. I was looking forward to the Tipsy Chicken Salad and ordered that. The waiter took our order using his memory. Unfortunately, when the food arrived I received a completely different salad. I told the waiter and he sent back the salad and brought the correct salad. Unfortunately, the salad was almost all lettuce with a small amount of grilled chicken and a very small amount of avacado. Visited Madison this past weekend and we stopped by The Tipsy Cow for lunch on Friday, and again for dinner on Saturday (thanks to Lucille's not being able to get us a table). Lunch on Friday was fantastic. Our server (Hannah) was so friendly and went above and beyond by splitting up our salad between my wife and I, without even asking for it. The breading is so light, you really get to appreciate the flavor and texture of the cheese. We ordered both kinds, the goat cheese and the regular. I would order those goat cheese curds every day and dedicate my waistband size to sweatpants if I lived in Madison. The bloody mary was spot on-I could eat a whole jar of their homemade pickles. The grilled cheese with bacon was crispy on the outside and ooey-gooey on the inside, just like I like it. Despite walking past this place more often than I can count I've only ever stopped in two-three times. And honestly, that's regretful. The place is somewhat unassuming. And I get overwhelmed when I walk in because it feels tight, claustrophobic almost. But there's more to the space than meets the eye. The clutter is actually pretty fun/funny to admire. And the atmosphere is always fun and loud (which might not be your jam). We've never had to wait long, though I've seen decent lines at times. Service has always been quick and efficient. Food wise, I've not had anything I didn't like but I will tell you that you have to try the fries. They have a number of different styles of fry baskets on the menu that are more than big enough to share between 2-3 people. Not only are the toppings delicious, but the fries themselves are this perfect golden brown with just the right amount of crispy crunchy goodness. They almost taste battered or twice fried. By far one of the best places in Downtown Madison for food. Best cheese curds in the area, we tried tipsy cow and old fashioned and Tipsy Cow was bbt far better. They are not greasy and have great breading. Other than the curds, we ordered the grilled cheese which was delicious. We also had to the Spicy Steak sandwich and the Mushroom Quesadilla (on special) and both were fantastic. Service is always super quick and friendly. Came here for the wing special on Monday! Super good deal, half off of their normal wing price, so $6 for 12 or $12 for 24. I went for the honey Harissa and the Parmesan peppercorn, two of my favorites. The honey harissa is super flavorful with a little bit of a kick, and I like to have a dry rub to mix things up.
