I am guessing this place wasn't as busy as usually on a Saturday around 1pm given the Badgers were in town and the farmer's market was winding down. We got a table in the bar with no wait. I had a tough time deciding want to get since there was so many great choices both on the appetizer list and the rest of the menu. Actually we got one of the specials - the grilled cheese with smoked salmon. It was totally awesome - they need to make this a regular menu item - it was delicious. We also had the gyro fries which were also pretty tasty but a bit pricey. I am definitely going to be back very soon! read more

Food was good! First time trying the place and first time having fried goat cheese curds. It wasn't too greasy and there was a lot of batter on them. There were a couple that had no cheese in them, and it was just fried batter, so that was a little disappointing, but my waiter was friendly. He was prompt with the service as well, refilling my water when it looked low. I didn't feel overwhelmed by the service and was allowed to enjoy my meal, but the water was friendly enough to make small talk. The drinks were meh, a little too sweet with the cherry coke spring special. The burger was also good, a bit greasy has the ingredients kept falling out of the bun and the bun was a little soggy. I saw outside and it was nice. I came at a good time (5ish) when it was just one other couple outside, and by the time I had finished my meal the outside eating area was almost filled. read more

The Tipsy Cow was great! We went for a walk by Monona Terrace to see the Snowy Owl today, then along the ice, and back up to The Tipsy cow. We shared an Apple Pie Cider, Goat Cheese Curds, Korean BBQ Fries, and Beer Battered Cauliflower In the maple chipotle sauce. The Apple Pie Cider was yummy rich, and warm. The goat cheese curds were delicious, and paired well with the beer battered cauliflower we chose maple chipotle. I would love to try the Korean BBQFries again with the Sriracha aïoli on the side, tonight or turned out as more of a soup. Good service, even our waters were filled, great flavors. I would recommend. Maybe order the aïoli on the side. read more

Overall, I would rate my experience a 2.5/5. As an appetizer, we ordered the pretzel which came with 2 large pretzels along with cheese and mustard. Honestly, I did not like the pretzel at all. It was dry and unappetizing. We barely finished one pretzel. For our meal, I got the Truffled Mushroom Salad, and my boyfriend got the Tipsy Q Burrito. My salad was not bad. The serving size was very large, but they did not provide enough dressing. I had to wait 15 minutes for extra dressing. My meal was good, but not sure if it is worth $13. The Tipsy Q Burrito did not have much flavor. It seems like it has a lot ingredients, but it was very tasteless. This was definitely not worth $13. Chipotle and Qdoba have way better burritos in my opinion. Lastly, the service was awful. We had to hunt our waitress down for everything. We waited 15 minutes for someone to even take our drink orders. The waitress never asked us how our food was, and we had to search for another waitress to get additional dressing for my salad. Overall, we didn't have a great experience, and the food is nothing special. I would not come back, except maybe to try the cheese curds everyone is raving about. read more

Good food, good and well priced drinks, and good service! I got the pretzel appetizer, which comes with two HUGE pretzels, be prepared because it definitely filled me up. My friends got the cheese curds and the spiced tater tots and loved them. I also got the patty melt, which was delicious, but also so incredibly greasy it dripped down my wrist, and was pretty soggy in the middle, so probably wouldn't order again (but also that's kinda what a patty melt is, so can't fault them for that). Street park your car, the meters will take credit cards :) Inside was smaller then I expected, but they do have outdoor seating, but when it's 90+ outside, I prefer the inside where the AC is running and it's cool :) I came here because of one thing - fried cheese curd! Long before my trip started, I spent a lot of time looking places to eat, while I'm sure there are other restaurants that offer fried cheese curds, I bookmarked this place and had to swing by. So, yeah... ordered the fried cheese curd and the tipsy burger... of course, got a beer as well. I'm giving 4 stars because of the fried cheese curd! It was fried perfectly, the cheese was not to overly salty and I ate it like it as popcorn! I could have consumed this for hours (not recommend for health reasons)!!! As for their burger, it was juicy, but the meat patties unfortunately lacked flavors... the patties were bland and unfortunately other items in the burger did not bring the seasoning together. Bit more of seasoned salt on the patties would been awesome! But definitely recommend the cheese curds!!! read more

Well, it's the end of a tradition. We've been coming here for vacation for the better part of a decade now. Unfortunately, we will never be back. The staff is awful. We made it into Chicago around 630, and (after realizing someone had stolen something from our luggage) we got to the Tipsy Cow as quickly as we could for "dinner" because it was Friday night fish fry. We out in for a table, and waited 15 minutes for them to seat us on one of the many tables on the patio. Mind you, the host tried to out us BACK on the reservation list when we told them they called us. Paying close attention! Anyway, they seat us, watch four, five staff members go by and buss tables, talk to customers like they're old friends, serve tables, etc. Nobody said a single word to us. We went to the host stand, they tried to give us another reservation. (Paying attention!) We expressed that we would like a different table, and the host staff couldn't have been more rude. To the point where their friends standing next to them decided to start hurling insults our way, too. "They probably wouldn't tip you anyway" Uh, what? The F would I tip anyone for. The daily deals are worth it. They're considerably understaffed back when they opened through 2014 and again twice in 2019. Called at 1230p, Monday Nov. 25th to place a togo order. My fault for calling during lunch. 3m:36s after being placed on hold... I was able to order. 12 parm wings all drums. Regular large fry. Drive over. Didn't plug the meter thinking I'd be in and out. Ba da bing... I was not. Walked in to a busy bartender named Mike. The bar is robustly filled with patrons at the tables only 2 at the bar. It (the bar) could use a bussing. Lady with glasses must be part of management because I can't see an owner walking around, drinking without acknowledging customers. I asked her directly, "May I pay for a to go order?" Her: that's what he's probably going for. (That's what he's for is what I recall as i type this sitting at the bar). Idk... Maybe she's a hostess. Either way, he came back with someone's else. Nor was the 2nd order mine. He had to ring it up. Apparently, no one put it in when I called. I worry it'll be wrong. I abhor flats. But I'm at a meter and meter maid Godfrey is on the beat. Had an excellent lunch on the hill Thursday 7/25/19! I met my Mom in Madison for a girls day and we decided to give this place a try. Just happened upon it as we were walking the square. Look super cool inside and had a nice out door area to sit as well. They have a great menu selection with different specials each day. We decided to sit at the bar. Bloody Mary's were delicious! They use their own homemade mix. Bartender was super friendly and attentive. We started with half and half fried goat cheese curds and regular white cheese curds. If you like goat cheese go with those they were amazing!!! Very creamy and delicious served with a side of ranch. For lunch we split a BLT with avocado. Very tasty and they only use Nueske's bacon! I can dig it. We ended up coming here after waiting several minutes for a table at Graze that never came and seeing plenty of open booths and tables from the host table. Not about that waiting life. A quick yelp search and we found The Tipsy Cow as an alternative. Upon entering, we were seated promptly at a high top table near the bar. Outside patio was open when we had visited, but we were looking to cool down and catch some AC. Pretty lively but not over crowded bar for a Saturday. Service was great and our waitress was prompt. Their draft beer selection consisted of maybe 10 or so options with maybe half local option (spotted cow, etc.) and some from as far as CA. Beers ran us $5.50 & $6.50 per pint and were so refreshing to have on a hot day. For food... I did their smoked salmon grilled cheese ~ generous portions of smoked salmon stuffed between two slices of bread with gruyere cheese, traditional red onions, & lathered with lemon-caper aioli. Tasty and unique twist on a grilled cheese & lox and not bad for $9. And of course when in Wisconsin, an order of fried cheese curds to share. Perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and a tad gooey on the inside and served with ranch for dipping. Loved the name so had to try this place while I was in town. We had about a 15 min wait which was great because the place was full including the outside patio. We started our meal sharing some onion rings and fried zucchini. The onion rings were the big thick jumbo kind- not too greasy. The zucchini chips were great! The dipping sauce was a little spicy and the zucchini weren't mushy. I also ordered a cocktail that was a Summer Shandy local beer with some limoncello in it. Very light and tasty! They were very busy but they took great care to seat us in our preference of a high top table or outside on the patio. We had the zucchini chips to start with. Nice and hot and crispy. Located in the Capital Hill area in a great looking flat iron type building. Bar fare with care is what's on the menu. We started with an order of cheese curds. We opted not to go goat cheese thinking it would be too rich. The regular curds are awesome though. All three of us in my party commented how light and flaky the breading was. Almost tempura like. This gives way to a smooth, creamy curd that is pillow soft and requires hardly any chewing it's so delicate. For mains, I had the Tipsy Burger. My wife had just a regular cheese burger and my daughter opted for the turkey sandwich. All were good. The burger patty they serve here is the smashed and seared type. When you're on a pup crawl this place it a definite place to crawl through. Love the name, the vibe, the drinks and the food here. Second visit was as much fun as the first! Sat at the bar with my friends and ordered a Grey Goose on ice. Holy crap, talk about liberal pours and cool pricing. Guess I've lived in Hawaii so long I expect a skimpy 1.5 ounce top shelf drink to cost a minimum $16. This was a liberal 3 ounce at $8. The Peach Mule, menu drink, was awesome. Any beer on tap can be tasted before you buy which is a fantastic offer for serious beer drinkers. A lot of old favorites on the food menu with new twists, prepared well and served by happy-to-be-there servers. The Tipsy Cow Burger is off the charts good. The Fried Curds, tasty. The Beer Battered Onion Rings were thick and probably the best I've ever consumed. Beautiful, thick, crisp....I'm drooling just writing this. My favorite thing served (next to those awesome Onion Rings) was Mike's Pickles. A menu item that had me begging for a jar, gallon please, to take home to Hawaii. Unfortunately the pickles are a secret recipe and the not sold in any jar containers. Tried to get the recipe but that was not to be bought or given. I will return next trip to Madison.
