I brought a used vehicle I had just purchased in for inspection. Joe quickly determined that the car had WAY more issues than the seller had disclosed to me. I have had two experiences with them and will never take my car back there again. The first was with a Maryland state inspection. They over quoted a price and when we took it someplace else to get it fixed the other mechanic said nothing was even wrong. They then put the VIN number on wrong for the paperwork which caused me to be at the MVA an hour longer then necessary. The second time they again over quoted to have some brakes fixed. Charged a large fee to have absolutely nothing done! Both experiences also took an entire extra day longer then they had told me initially. I do not recommend the tire network at all and will never take my car back there. read more

I had heard good things about this garage and called ahead to get a quote to replace both of the rear door power lock actuators which I had read is a common problem with my vehicle. I have an aquaintence in Fredrick who's dad owns a shop and gave me a quote for the parts & labor...$560. I called around to a few other local shops in Baltimore and received quotes for $600 & $615. The Tire Network quoted me over the phone (using my Vin number) for $575. Given their reputation I chose to get the work done there...seemed like a reasonable estimate. They were very friendly on the phone and I was able to set up an appointment for 4 days out. When I went to drop off my car, the woman (who I later learned was a co-owner) said that it was no problem and that they would give me a call the following day after the work was complete. No conversation of additional work or diagnostic services required to be performed on the car. Later that day I received a call from the shop saying that I did in fact need power lock actuators and that the total for the work will be $740. I explained that this did not align with the $575 estimate and he countered with the fact that it did not include diagnostics. I specifically discussed the need for diagnostics when receiving my quote with all 3 shops I received quotes for...including Tire Network. Diagnostics were included in all 3 of the quotes. Basically, I would understand a price increase if it was a different problem, but it was the exact problem I brought it in for! I debated with the man on the phone for quite sometime who insisted that the lady discussed the diagnostics with me when I dropped off my car. She did not and I asked to speak with her about it. He would not put her on the phone, nor give me a price for me to get my car back to have the work done elsewhere. I really got a sense that he tried to swindle me for more money, not remembering/realizing that I had already received a lower quote, and got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Ultimately, they conceded some of the diagnostics price, but still left with a bill totaling $630 (surprisingly right below the MD state law maximum of 10% over a quoted price). The entire process left a bad taste in my mouth with the shop. While I will say, the work was competent and my locks work well now...I believe they aren't very trustworthy and their customer service was not respectful. I was calmly discussing my problems with his quote and they were VERY defensive as if they got caught doing something they shouldn't have been doing. Please be leary of price increases and surprise diagnostics. Every shop has pros and cons, but felt this was a worthwhile story to share to those selecting a shop. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I see lots of people going here for their state inspections and there is a benefit to having your inspection site do any repairs and that is one of the main reasons I believe there are better places to go! Took my car in for my state inspection. At first they were very accommodating and were able to get me in that day. They did find some wear on one of my joints so I brought it back in a couple days later when they said they were free and could work on it. After 3 days they had made no progress (I had also told them I needed it for that weekend as I was going out of town) and I was not kept informed of progress on my car. I was told to bring it back in on Monday, which I did, and it wasn't until Thursday of that week that any work actually started on my car. I proactively called multiple times during week and Thursday I also told them I need my car by Friday evening. By Friday evening my car was not done as promised and I was guaranteed to have my car by noon on Saturday. When I stopped by the shop at 12pm they weren't even working on my car and it was not finished. Finally picked up my car Saturday afternoon and was still charges full price including labor. For being a local shop I never felt the hometown hospitality and respect. read more

Joe is super friendly and took me in without an appointment. He fixed my power steering sensor an my at runs just fine now. I dropped my car off Friday morning expecting it to be a quick fix. I called Joe later that afternoon to get an update and e informed me it would be slightly more extensive than anticipated. I called again Saturday morning and my car could potentially be ready that afternoon. Joe was going to leave me a message at 1 to inform me. I never heard from Joe, so I called and he told me he'd have to wait until Monday to give me info. Apparently the wrong part was sent so he had to reorder it. I called on Monday afternoon after Joe told me the car will likely be ready before 3, and he said he had taken a lunch break so it was taking longer. Mind you, I had not been given an estimate at any time, not had I ever been contacted. I was calling the tire network everyday for an update rather than vice versa. Joe is super nice but the communication and effectiveness was severely lacking. My car was in the shop for 5 days when it should have only taken a couple of hours. I'm sure Joe is very busy but I was not a happy customer! He did make it a point to ask me what he could do better as a business owner and I graciously told him I was a little frustrated. But he didn't make any offers for recovery but was sorry to disappoint me. Sorry for the novella, but all in all I was not impressed. Do not get your car inspected here - unless you'd like to wait 5 HOURS. I called ahead of time to ask if there was availability for a car inspection, front desk asked when I was coming in, I said 20 minutes, and they said okay and it will take an hour. I got there within 20 minutes and dropped my car off and was told that it would be an hour from when he starts and they "don't know when that would be". 2 1/2 hours later I come back and am told that it was started but would take another hour or hour and a 1/2. So 2 hours after THAT I call again and am put on with the inspector who told me my window tint was too dark. I giving this 2 stars instead of 1 star because the state inspector was actually very nice and explained the window tint laws/regulation to me. However, I feel that I did not have to wait 5 hours just to have more car inspected. Front desk did not even apologize about the situation. They need to manage appointments and expectations better. read more

Joe helped me out a while back. I got a flat, and I replaced it with a used tire (big mistake). And I decided to get it replaced since it was making this annoying thumping noise. It turns out I had tread separation on my tires and he got a manufacturer warranty to save me like 70% on a new set. So I got a new set of tires and an oil change and a Maryland inspection pretty cheaply. read more

Overall they fixed my power steering return line but it was a very expensive repair. I purchased the part and asked them to install it and they did however they also charged me $100 just to confirm the hose needed to be replaced. Afterwards I learned the repair didn't even require the vehicle to be lifted or the tire removed as initially expected. Did they lower my repair cost? No. Bottom line, They did the repair quickly and correctly but at a price I feel was about $100 more than it should have been. read more

When the "low tire pressure" indicator went on in my brand new car last week, and when I realized that I actually had a tire with a slow leak, I needed to find a place to get my tire repaired ASAP. I looked through all the various reviews for local tire places, and The Tire Network had entirely positive reviews, so I gave it shot. Long story short, the reviews are all true and Joe is one of the most upstanding mechanics I've ever met. After they determined that my tire had a hole in the sidewall, I learned that I needed a new tire. When I called the dealership to ask what they would do, they told me it would be $230 for the new tire before tax. Joe told me that it would be $247 for my tire before installation, but in his experience, based on my tire being brand new and the fact that there was no evidence of me hitting a road hazard, Michelin would probably give me 25-50% towards the cost of the new tire. He told me that he'd help me fill out the claim and talk to them. The dealership said that they would not be able to help me with that and I'd have to deal with Michelin on my own. Joe spent 20 minutes calling back Michelin until he found somebody competent and understanding of my situation. He got them to give me 50% towards the cost of the tire as goodwill since it broke with less than 2000 miles on the tire, and spent a good amount of time and effort working for me on my behalf. The whole time while I was waiting I watched a stream of new and existing customers come in needing various repairs - some needing tire work, others just needing service on their cars. All the regulars love Joe and his staff and he knew them all personally and really cared about more than just their business. I was very impressed by the integrity of Joe and his staff, the quality of their work and the overall customer experience. Sure, getting a headlight replaced isn't complicated, but my old, used car came with blue led lights that are wired into the battery. I love this place. I recently moved to a different neighborhood and tried going to a tire shop closer to my new place. Huge mistake. They messed up my tire and I had to get my money back and then go back to the Tire Network to get it fixed. As usual the Tire Network did a great job. I never should have taken it to a different place. The Tire Network replaced my donut tire with a good used tire for $75. The whole thing took less than 45 minutes. They only get one because 0 isn't an option. I've heard mixed opinions and thought the people with negative experiences were exaggerating. Until I had one. Brought my car in when I thought I needed a battery which ended up taking two days and costing almost 300. They lost my number twice so I only heard back after I called and then 3 weeks later my alternator goes up. Which was the problem the whole time. He tried to charge me 596 for a 2003 Honda alternator. Bumper globe told me 300 so I told him I would take it there and he wasn't happy. Argued with me on the phone/ in person and got in face as if he was trying to fight me in his shop as I was trying to pay him. Yes pay him $55 to "look at it" and they trying to fight me and curse at me as I drive away. Why am I the one thanking him and being polite during this insane ordeal. Once I was handed my key I got the **** out and I recommend everyone do the same. That is unless you like to wait twice the time to pay twice as much and have an old man try to fight you. Called at 2pm on a Saturday and the man on the phone told me to come right in and sounded pleasant. Very friendly people over all (I was greeted by 3 different employees). I need a tire plugged and sealed which ran me $40. I was also aware my car needed more repair than just the tire.They showed me what and explained why parts needed to be fixed and even gave me a printed out invoice so I could come back later to get my car fixed and know the exact amount it would cost me. The girl in the office even signed it incase someone else was there. I don't know about you but knowing an exact amount of money you need is much better then waiting for a price and struggling to come up with the money on the spot. I am a single girl living in Federal Hill- I have absolutely NO knowledge of cars. My AC stopped working this summer, in the middle of the 105 degree days. I called the Tire Network, and they were able to take me the next morning. They did an awesome and affordable job servicing my AC- works perfectly now. Then- 2 days later, my car wasn't starting. Of course I called the Tire Network thinking it was something that had been affected by the work the did. They sent someone (Joe, the owner of the company) to come to me and take a look at my car. It turned out it just needed a jump start, but he had me come back to the shop to check everything else out and made sure I knew to drive the car around for a bit to recharge the battery. Sent my car there for a simple alternator swap. They received a faulty alternator and took three days to realize they needed to order a new one. I went and got a alternator myself and brought it in only to discover that in changing out the alternator they had now mangled my air intake hose and ruined the air/gas mixture going into the car. So now I have a car more ruined than it was going in. To end in true style they doubled the initial labor cost. I will never bring my car here again. This shop is terribly run. In the past (about 2.5 years ago), just before the first Baltimore Grand Prix they mounted a set of 4 R- compound racing tires on track dedicated wheels that I use for HPDE on my Porsche. I was happy with the value of their service, and the work was done as expected, competently and quite frankly they are pretty friendly guys and likeable. If I recall correctly, it set me back about $80 to have all four wheels done. This review today reflects work that I DID NOT HAVE DONE due to price sticker shock of getting a quote before hand, today. And, I'm glad I asked before the work was done.. I brought in A wheel to have A tire mounted on it. The wheel was off of the car, so it required them to mount and balance the tire without fussing with the vehicle at all, that's it... The owner talked about the expensive Road Force Balancing machine they had in the back and I said I would be happy with a standard spin balance (as that is all I have had to do to get wheels balanced after about 4-5 sets of tires over the years) which he said they had and could do as well. The quote they gave me was for $80.00 and change, once again for one tire on one wheel. I inquired to the cost and they told me it was charged at a half hour of labor, which was at $110 per hour also because it was a "performance" tire... I declined the offer. Two weeks ago I had two rear tires for the same car mounted and balanced for $40 at a shop that specializes with wheels and tires only.... I would like to do business with you guys again but charging $110 per hour for a tire mechanic in my opinion is exorbitant. All tires are "performance tires"... I spent 2 months investigating new tires, settled on Michelin Defenders, and then visited a dozen vendors (chains and locals). My top priorities were decent price (not necessarily rock bottom), tires in-stock, Hunter Roadforce balancing, and finding a shop with highly qualified technicians, not a bunch of kids that worked at Walmart the week before. After all, tires are expensive and are critical safety equipment. As a result, I decided to try Tire Network. I was not disappointed - this place is the real deal. They had the best price on Michelin Defender's that I could find, they had them in-stock, plus Hunter Roadforce balancing was included with new Michelins! Roadforce balancing helps your tires ride better and last longer. This $150-$200 value makes the total cost even lower than if you buy/ship from Tire Rack and try to find a shop to do the same work. Plus, I actually trust Joe's staff to do the Roadforce balancing properly, including calibrating the machine and remounting as necessary. Tire Network is also the place to go with your specialty car or truck tire and wheel needs, like big truck tires that can be hard to balance (my Jeep). They also have special lifts for low profile sports cars. Joe knows tires. He is very knowledgeable and careful and is happy to give you as much detail as you care to know. Do yourself and Joe a favor and make an appointment, especially if you have a special tire/wheel. As for the Defenders... in the time it took to install my tires, over five inches of snow fell in Baltimore. I drove past dozens of vehicles that could not make it up the hills. Do not bring your car here for a safety inspection or expectation of good customer service. I brought my 2013 Tacoma in after moving to town (appx 40K miles and NO ISSUES) and let them know that there was a rock ding in the windshield and that I was told previously that it wouldn't be an issue. I wanted to be transparent that it was there. A few hours later I get an email saying that I failed inspection. When I looked at the report, it was from the windshield. I was shocked that the person with whom I spoke wouldn't have let me know it was an issue before doing the check and then charging me $95 CASH. He ran the check, knowing that it would fail, so that he'd make the $95. How's that for customer service? I let him know that I'd be leaving a negative review on YELP, at which time he began to yell at me, saying "that's defamation" and that he was going to "report my car to the State of Maryland." Then proceeded to fully accuse me that I had drugs in my car by telling me that "By the way, your car smells like weed, so I am calling the police." Yes, he accused me of using or selling drugs. I let him know that it would be odd, given that I did a 10 mile run home from his shop, I was a marathoner, that I drive my daughter to daycare every day in the car, oh, and that I've never smoked weed. He hung up on me. The Tire Network is the reason that people have distrust for mechanics and I'd never return. read more

After moving to the area about 6 months ago, we found this shop based on the great reviews posted on this site. Can't say enough great things about these quality folks. They treat you like family and are genuinely interested in making things right. I've now had service work done to both my vehicles (oil changes, etc) and couldn't be happier. They also successfully trouble shooted an electrical issue I was having (fuse kept blowing) and correctly identified a 3rd party 9V plug as being the culprit. Most recently, my wife stopped by to have a tire valve replaced and the work was done while she waited, at no charge... Good people, quality work, fair prices. I decided to get a state safety inspection here because it seemingly had good reviews. It took them all day to do the safety inspection, and it cost $95 which I thought was a little expensive. They told me my vehicle had failed. What I really had a problem with though was they tried to tell me that 3 of my tires were studded (they are not), and wanted me to buy three new tires. They also said my steering alignment was off and my vehicle pulled to the side. Neither of these were true. Their proposed repairs were in excess of $900. I brought my vehicle somewhere else that a friend recommended and my vehicle passed. It was a mistake going here. read more

The Tire Network provided terrible service and may have tried to rip us off. My wife took her vehicle in for an inspection, and was told it would be handled quickly. We left the vehicle on the street, and were told it would be promptly moved to the back lot. Driving by that evening, we saw the car still there, this time with a ticket! If it had been moved to the lot as promised, it wouldn't have been ticketed. The next day, the inspection was finally performed. the mechanic claimed that it had not passed, and we would have to pay to have a strut mount fixed for several hundred dollars. The description of the problem seemed fishy, and with the delays and lack of communication, we didn't feel comfortable having him do the work. We took the car to the dealership to see if they would verify the issue. The dealership put the car up and did a comprehensive review, telling us that the strut claim was completely bogus. When we called Tire Network and asked them to pass the vehicle, he then said he would, but only if we paid the inspection fee again. He also claimed that the dealership must not know how to inspect the vehicle (false - my wife was at the dealership looking at the undercarriage of the car with the service techs and they very thoroughly explained how nothing was wrong). Overall, a rotten experience. read more
