I booked an appointment with Joe for a window tint inspection. The place has 3.5 stars but I just needed a quick service so I thought how bad could it be? Joe did not honor the appointment because he was working with other customers. He said: "I am very busy and working with other people right now." This guy is a scam artist and shouldn't be an authorized inspector. He's a big zero in my book. I went to this shop to support a local business. The inspection took all day. The owner came back and said my brakes needed work. I had just had brake work two months prior, so I called the place that did the original repairs. They said he wasn't being honest but agreed to refund me for the work I did if I went to another inspector, which I did. Low and behold, the car passed with no issues. I went back to Joe asking for a refund. He refused. I filed a complaint with the Automotive Safety Enforcement Division (ASED), also a waste of time. Do yourself a favor and do not go to this business. read more

My car's front brakes were on their last gasp and I was driving from Massachusetts to Durham, North Carolina. I had to stop in Baltimore for a few hours and I thought it was a long shot, but I might be able to get my brakes fixed while I was there. The Tire Network really saved my skin! Overpriced vehicle inspection. He charges $150 for the same inspection that most stations charge $75-$85 for. Bumper Globe Collision Center down the street charges $85. He was also a bit rude and took far longer than they said. Judging by other reviews, failing inspections seem to be a cash cow for him. read more

This place is a complete waste of time and money. Save yourself the hassle and find another place, especially if you are a female and/or needing a vehicle inspection. I honestly don't know how they are an authorized inspection station and should absolutely be reported. I scheduled an appointment for an inspection as I'd recently moved from out of state. I showed up at the scheduled time and they had no record of my appointment. This is when I should have walked away, but they said they could get me in and that it would be 2.5 - 3 hours so I made the unfortunate decision to proceed. EIGHT hours and several phone calls later I am standing outside of their window because they had not called that my vehicle was finished and it was near their closing time. The vehicle did not pass inspection, which was ok because it's an older model and I understand Maryland has a very stringent standard for registering out of state vehicles. What was not ok was the excessive amount of repairs that were mansplained to me as though I am just an ignorant female that will believe and pay for anything I am told. I was promised an estimate for the repairs that were allegedly necessary would be sent to me the following Monday and SURPRISE, over a month later and I still have not received an estimate. I went to a more reputable shop where again, my vehicle failed inspection, however the repairs were fair and legitimate and within 4 hours they had my vehicle repaired and inspection passed. I brought my car for an inspection because I wanted to get it done immediately. I shopped around but places either didn't have a inspector or weren't available. This shop was available, no appt needed. I purchased a practically brand new vehicle, a 2020 Acura. For starters, the inspection cost $150, the Acura dealer itself doesn't charge that much for a inspection on a AWD vehicle, they charge $120. The inspection took over 2hrs (on a brand new vehicle) and he failed it for a rack and pinion issue and a loose battery. I was able to get an appointment at the Acura dealer a day later. The Acura dealer said the car is completely fine, the rack and pinion is electronic and it is very rare that there is a issue and the battery is tight, the car shouldn't have failed inspection. (Waste of time!) I drive back down the The Tire Network and he asks me did they fix everything. I let him know the vehicle didn't need to be fixed at all, everything checked out fine. He then says I have to make an appointment for re-inspection LOL. I KNEW there would be another excuse or issue. Luckily, Acura (the actual manufacturer of the vehicle) did a courtesy statement vehicle inspection for me and sent it to the MVA. I went back just to confirm my assumption that this local shop was on some bullsh*t. I was courteous wit the 2 stars, it should be 1 but I gave a extra star for being able to take the car immediately for the initial inspection. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! I took my car in for an inspection which was done by Joseph Hooe. I got to the shop at 8 am when they opened and they stated they would be able yo take my car right away. 2.5 hours later they had not even taken my car back to the inspection area. After having my car for six hours, he failed my car because of my tints, which would have be fine but also stated my car failed because of bad front brakes. My car is a year old (2020) and I just got my front brakes replaced after driving cross country March 2, 2021. So my current front brakes are only 8 months old, and replaced at the dealership. Joseph stated on my inspection, "I am unable to obtain an accurate reading" but still failed my brakes. The only way I would have been able to get the car passed was to remove tints (which I did), and to get new brakes AGAIN, which I did not need. I took my car back to the dealership and had the car inspected and my brakes passed no problem! I had to pay for a entirely new inspection. The following day I met with a senior state trooper and the dealership inspector and they inspected the brakes again to confirm my brakes were good!! The trooper confirmed that the brakes on my car were good and had plenty of life on them. If I would not have gone and got my car re-inspected, I would have had to pay for all new front brakes. When I told Joseph my car passed the very next day he immediately stated the other inspector was wrong and was cheating the system. I then told him the trooper also inspected the brakes he no longer wanted to talk, because he knew he was in the wrong!! Stay away from this place!!! read more

I truly would avoid this place. I took my car here for a safety inspection and MANY things were done inappropriately. First of all, Joe charges $150 when the going rate at most gas stations is $120 max, and I ended up taking my car to Pep boys for a new inspection (way more efficient and professional) that only cost $75! They took forever and continued to tell me it was almost ready for over an hour after I came back to get my car. Joe made up a bunch of cosmetic things I "needed to fix" for my inspection that Pep Boys said nothing about. I would not go here for a safety inspection unless you want to get robbed of money you don't need to pay. read more

Would not recommend going here. As a side note, I did not get my car/tire repaired here, so take my review as you will. I went in because I had a leak in one of my tires and wanted to get a quote. Granted, I drive a fancy car, Joe tries to charge me $110 to patch up the leak!!!!! I ask him why it would cost me so much because the place down the street (Firestone) said they'd fix it for $30. He gives me a bunch of reasons that make absolutely no sense, but to the untrained ear may sound reasonable. I know cars, especially mine, and it doesn't cost $110 to patch up one tire. Long story short, I know I was getting ripped off so I went to Costco and got it patched up for $15. read more

I would not suggest using this business for any of your car needs especially for the state inspection. The prices are outrageous and the customer service is very poor. Due to this shop being certified to do state inspections, they can charge you whatever they see fit. If the conversation starts with, "well you have to do it to pass and I can do it for you but..." RUN AWAY as fast as you can. I paid over $300 for a state inspection and had to pay another mechanic to finish work that should've been completed by The Tire Network. Brought my vehicle in for inspection. Was able to leave it on the spot two hours to complete the inspection. My vehicle failed due to a headlight, and front brakes. Joe, the owner who did the inspection quoted me 585.00 to resurface the brakes, replace light bulb and windshield wiper. The same day I took my truck to Harbor Auto Center and was charged 620.00 to have rotors replaced and everything else done. When I returned to the tire network the next day to have vehicle re-inspected Joe's was rude and clearly upset I had someone else do the work. Despite calling the day prior and being told to bring the truck in the following morning I was told by Joe when I arrived that he needs another 2 hours to inspect it, and can't do it until sometime next week. In addition the inspection is 100.00 and the re-inspection is $55.00. Beware of this location and take your business elsewhere. read more

I went in for a flat tire. They have used tires. Mine was $40 installed, which is really good. I got a call while they were putting my tire on saying that my studs and lug nuts had been stripped and needed to be replaced. He wanted $120 for new posts and lug nuts. I know from experience that studs aren't very hard to replace and only cost $2-$3. Lug nuts are about $0.99. So , I know parts were about $8, and that's from a retailer. I'm sure they get parts wholesale. So, $112 for labor? When parts are $8? Seemed like a rip off to me, so I took my car without having them do the job. I went to Advance Auto Parts and got new lug nuts. Guess what. They went right on my studs; threaded easily and snugly. My studs were just fine and I fixed the problem they wanted $120 for, for $6 (I got a 4 pack of lug nuts) and 5 minutes of labor. To make things worse, the mechanic was condescending to me. When I told him I didn't want to give him $120 for something that costs less than $10 in parts he jibed back with "And who's going to put it on for you?" Really? Because I couldn't possibly do it myself? Also, it's none of his business how I fix the problem. Honestly, I just think they didn't want me to know that the posts didn't need to be replaced. read more

Update: Wondering how there so few negative reviews? Evidently Joe threatens his paying customers who write negative reviews with legal action. If you have been in the shop, you have seen that the proudly displayed lawsuit against Goodyear, framing The Tire Network as the David vs Goliath - I doubt he will be displaying his threatening legal action against a paying individual customer who wrote a negative review however - that's not good press. On April 15th, 2014, I received a letter from Joe's lawyer threatening legal action for "defamation" (ie. my negative review). The details of the letter charge that "your posting is an intentional act of retribution designed to harm the reputation and goodwill of The Tire Network, Inc., and if defamation is established, will expose you to defamation of punitive damages as this is defamation per se." This, I will note, is an untrue charge as I am simply posting a review with an opinion based on my experiences as Yelp is intended. The letter demands that I correct the post to include all information, and specifically that Joe Hooe based his decision to decline credit based in part in that he attempted to run a previous card, with my permission (which was canceled in light of the target system hacking) which was declined. This is true, yet the only reason he attempted to run the card was when I actively walked back to the office to show my good faith after I realized that I had left my wallet at home. I could have very easily left, and returned with the services having been completed. Rather than email an apology and/or request an amended the post, or make any attempts to fix a poor business relationship, The Tire Network opted to seek legal action to intimidate a paying customer. I did Maryland inspection here , front disk was friendly and nice although they where the most expensive place near me , but due to the good reviews on here and how some mechanics abuse this , I said why not lets try them unfortunately I failed , I said its OK maybe Maryland inspection is too strict , although seeing the cars on streets of Baltimore you think its not the good thing I have a good friend of mine , in College park that direct me to good mechanics there that was cheaper and the problems in my car decrease from 10 from this place to 2 and 100 $ dollar later it passed. After a miserable tire experience at another Baltimore garage, I am pleased to have found the Tire Network. I knew I should have checked Yelp first! I live in Hampden, not Federal Hill, but the service I received here was so excellent that it is worth the short journey (even with a donut tire) to get honest, fast, and reliable service. Joe and his wife (who works the desk) are lovely people. They are sympathetic, sweet, and most importantly...truthful! The rest of the employees were attentive and helpful as well. They could obviously see that I was having a bad day and took the time to make sure I was well taken care of, explaining everything to me along the way. Both times I visited, I was in and out in about 20 minutes. Great experience. Highly recommended. read more

Go help if you call Joe out on something bogus. I sell tools for a livings and he(Joe) came up w/ a bogus claim that his flashlight was broken. It was working just fine and he Tool it apart in front of me and super glued the light bulb and low and behold it didn't work. I said the warranty MIGHT be voided and he threw a temper tantrum like a 5 year old in front his own customers. I laughed at him as he followed me out into the street yelling obscenities at me. Decent place in federal hill. I went here to fix a leaky tire because the Goodyear off of Fort Ave sucks so I figured this place has to be better than rock bottom. The place is a mom and pop place so you know their prices are going to be higher because they can't compete that well with the big players. Any who -- they fixed my tire quickly for $40 and so far so good. I would return for minor things, but they are too pricey for most stuff. read more

I'm happy that they were able to see me and get my car out in the same day. It could have been a busier day than usual so that's why it took way more than the hour. read more

After running into some muffler issues and thinking my car was going to explode with all of the sound it was making, I headed over The Tire Network on my dad's recommendation. Without making an appointment, I came in at 8am and Joe immediately was able to take a look at the car. Super nice, super helpful and super quick. Turns out the problem was pretty minor but he went above and beyond by checking out the rest of the car to make sure everything was running right. Even took me on a test drive to make sure I was happy with the fix. In comparison to what Nissan or the other repair shops I've been to, the price for 1/2 hour of labor ($46) was not bad at all. I was expecting the worst and left feeling great that I wasn't going to have my car implode on 95. Joe and his employees definitely know a thing or two about customer service--- you can bet that I'll be coming to them again for any work needed. read more

I would highly recommend steering clear of these people. I got a bent wheel from a Baltimore pothole and got towed to them. It seemed fine at first and I told the guys I would get a new wheel and bring it back to my car which was an hour away from home. Well when I called them to talk about it the next day, I was told they didn't get to my car yet and would call me back. That was okay. 2 days passed and no call, so I call them again and they tell me that they can't get to my car because the snowstorm was approaching, and would call me back. Fine. Days later, no call. I call a third time and get the owner this time who preceded to tell me that they charge a storage fee for cars waiting in their lot. A STORAGE FEE FOR HOLDING MY CAR HOSTAGE. He then said "I've got three paying customers in front of me right now, so I'm going to call you back and tell you how much you owe". Surprise! No callback even from the owner. I ended up having to pay, but I should have disputed the charge the more I think about it. But, I did get my car towed from them free of charge. No one in their right mind should support this business. read more

I definitely recommend this place! I've come here three times for flat tire assistance, and they really take customer service to another level. On my first visit, I had to replace the tire on my one car after I blew it going over a curb. I wasn't able to get the spare on, and Joe was kind enough to come replace it without me having to bring it to the shop! Amazing! My fiance recently had a slow leak in one of his tires, brand-new since we just purchased the car in July. Joe was able to properly patch the tire instead of ordering a new one. Although the prices may be on the higher side ($40)--you get what you pay for--honest good work that is done right. read more

Both Joe and his wife (who was at the phone/register) were incredibly sweet. This was my first ever flat tire (weird, right?) so Joe showed me where my tire was losing air (sidewall) and answered all of my questions thoroughly. My tire wasn't patchable, so he recommended a new one that met my needs but was a reasonable price. No attempts to upsell me. I was in and out in 30 minutes flat. My wife, our 11 month old, and I went to Baltimore (from Alexandria) to visit the aquarium. Important note: this day was the hottest of the year with a 111 degree heat index. As we were leaving downtown Baltimore, I heard a sound from the rear of the car. We pulled over for gas and found a completely flat tire. Not knowing the area, I attempted to put the spare on in the heat without the proper tools. Epic fail! Then we scrolled through Yelp and found The Tire Network and Joe! We called and Joe said he could help us as soon as we could get there. We called three other, big name, tire shops and they turned us away. Joe met us curbside as we pulled up! He then promptly started to work on our tire while explaining every detail throughout the process. This was a huge help because I definitely do not have this knowledge set. My husband traveled from Columbia to check out the shop and purchase new tires based on a article we read. Great selection of tires and excellent service. Joe was friendly, fair and honest. Wound up getting two new tires. Joe noted that the wear on the tires was due to van being out of alignment. Just so happened to be having his alignment equipment updated and offered the service for free! Who does that?
