The Tom Rose School is a complete fraud. My partner and I moved across several states specifically because the school advertised itself as a place to train directly with Tom Rose. However, when my partner, toured the school last spring, it had already been sold and placed under new ownership and instructors. This crucial detail was never disclosed--then or now. Tom Rose is rarely involved with the school, yet they continue to exploit his name and reputation to mislead prospective students. Meanwhile, tuition has been increased, courses shortened, and important parts of the curriculum removed. The misrepresentation doesn't end there. They advertised Tom as a head instructor however, Tom met the students for lunch the first week and came to the school once to do a demo, and the methods he demonstrated were vastly different from what is currently being taught. Students no longer have access to the Tom Rose Ranch--this class toured it once, and that was it. In the past, students were taught pet first aid and CPR, but this class didn't receive that training. I feel this school has grossly misrepresented itself to both students and the VA. The new owners lack the knowledge, experience, and competence to run a program like this. They advertise job placement and claim to teach business and marketing for dog trainers, but none of this is true. Graduates leave with no assistance finding work, and the business and marketing training is practically nonexistent. The training methods taught here are outdated, excessively harsh, and unethical. The school relies heavily on compulsion training, emphasizing "yank and crank" corrections with prong collars and e-collars. To prevent exposure of their aggressive practices, students are prohibited from recording during class. I've personally seen dogs broken down, with tails between their legs, and many of them are just puppies. Some dogs are malnourished and treated poorly, I've witnessed puppies being subjected to e-collar corrections set dangerously high and other aggressive means of corrections. Whether the dog is a pet, a future service animal for a veteran, or a potential working dog for law enforcement, they are all treated with the same harsh methods. This school is nothing more than a cash grab, riding on the coattails of Tom Rose's name and legacy. It has misrepresented itself to students, veterans, and the VA. If you're considering this school--especially as a veteran using VA benefits--don't waste your time, money, or effort. There are far better programs out there that are ethical, transparent, and genuinely dedicated to dog training. read more

I had a great experience at the Tom Rose School. I was a student that attended the professionals program and learned a lot! Hayssum and Keirsten care deeply for the students, clients, and staff. They always put the dog's health and safety first. I was very impressed with how well they managed both the school and the boarding facility. read more

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LISTEN I would never send my dog here again ever. Im heartbroken at what has transpired.I had to find out the hard way to listen to the reviews and i will forever hate myself for doing this to my dog. I am sick to my stomach writing this review I saw a bunch of horrendous reviews on here that seemed to be fake before sending my dog to school there Since sending him to the school, half of his face is 100% paralyzed he is urinating in the house and acting extremely extremely different I spoke with a wide range of trainers and my vets about this in person & Facebook groups and for this to have happened, there had to have been a ton of trauma, he suffered a stroke or seizure, OR HE, "HAD BAD GENETICS AND THEY AFFECTED HIM in the 10 days he was there" The second my dog arrived back at home he was different. I am mediately took him to the emergency room. At first, I was told by the vet that it could be an inner ear infection. due to him being so confused and his actions. Mind you I got multiple opinions. MULTIPLE I am heartbroken and I hope my dog goes back to the way he was before i sent him. I spent $950+ to get them trained for only 11 days at which was cut short because they had me pick my dog up due to him losing weight. Lastly, my only reason for downloading this app & writing this review is to hopefully save another dog from what happened to my dog. read more

The Tom Rose School - Pet Training Near Me - High Ridge, Missouri

I have thought for 2 weeks since my last visit for grooming, and am still bothered, so I am hoping my review will allow for needed changes. I had been there for grooming once before, a year ago for my 2 goldens to be groomed. Shannon was the groomer at the time. She listened to what I wanted, and I was very pleased. Which is why I made a pre-Thanksgiving appointment for my boys. Upon arriving, Chase, was at the desk, clearly rattled and started by saying he did not have my boys on the schedule.(He assumed we were there for bording). Upon clarifying, he told me that Shannon had left, and they had one other groomer, who was not there yet, as she went to drive to someones house that they just hired, who had not shown up for work that day. I hesitated about leaving my boys, but decided to trust that my wishes would be met, and my boys well cared for. I explained that I live near, and to please call me if my 11 year old boy gets too nervous. I requested both boys get a sani -trim, and for my old boy, bring his skirting down shorter, as he just gets too fussy lately with being groomed. I called at noon to ask what time I should pick up, and he said 3pm. I was 5 minutes away, when Chase called to say that the groomer could not get to my boys today and he would board them till tomorrow( for free) and they would work on them then. I refused, saying they have been there since 8:30! He replied they had both been bathed and nails done but then said they will stay late and finish. At 3:45 I got a call again, saying come get them. One dog was done, and the groomer can't work any longer as her hands are cramping. I replied, I sure hope you got my old boy completed! Upon picking them up, I was greeted with both bathed, and the younger one basically with a puppy cut! Totally not what I had explained to him that I wanted, in addition, I wrote down what I wanted for the groomer!. No sani -trim, paw pads still had not been trimmed, ears were not trimmed. I asked why things were not completed, and Chase responded he and groomer are acting manager and staff that has been hired has been friends of friends and not working out. In fairness, I was charged very little. That did satisfy me. But nothing I asked for was done. I am not unsympathetic to both the groomers cramped hands, and Chase's very frazzled appearance( he has not had a day off in weeks, according to him) I felt bad for that. BUT owner Tom Rose needs to take a look at this location. Staffing issues, managers who are trying to manage and run a place without quality staff assisting. I walked away angry that my boys were not finished, my wishes were not followed, and the fact that I had to attend to grooming my older boy the week of the holiday, which is why I was paying them to do it. SO.. I will NOT go back. But I DO hope that changes take place. and I DO hope that staff gets less stressed and frazzled , as our furry friends certainly will pick up on that! I don't know how 2 people who never attended this school could actually give the school a rating, let alone a one star rating. I am a graduate of the Tom Rose school, and similar to the two other people who gave it a five star review I wouldn't trade my education with Training Director and head instructor Dave Van Garderen, Asst Head trainer Jake Plascencia and Jeremy Ciepluch for anything in this world. I arrived at the Tom Rose school a very naïve, clueless but eager student; I worked tirelessly with my two puppies to achieve the highest standards in professional dog training. If you are looking to learn how to train dogs at the highest level, then the Tom Rose school is for you. it was incredibly hard, but worth the time and commitment; attending does not necessarily qualify you for graduating, you will have to put in time and hard work to achieve that. But the knowledge that you will receive from these instructors will blow your mind away. As far as not trusting trainers from the school, While I can only really comment on the trainers that I graduated with, we love and adore our pets as well as the dogs we train. We hold ourselves to a very high standard of care and training for those dogs, I would never compromise my values, or knowingly do anything to injure or compromise a puppy in my care; nor would any of the other trainers I know. Just because the folks at the Tom Rose School don't want to keep negative reviews on their Facebook page, or allow negative commentary to be debated amongst non dog trainers, does not mean something "fishy" Is going on, it likely means they are a business that only wants to have positive reviews, and discussion. read more

The TomRose school is absolute the worst ever!,We took our 11 month old Great Dane to be trained spent over 500.00 dollars to have the pup kennel and trained. After the first week we was allowed to come visit our pup and see the progress that he had made. The pup was worse then when he went in. They have these tables that the dogs learn to climb on and they are to stay untill they are told otherwise. The trainer that was training our pup had the pup sitting on a very small climb table he kept falling off and when he was falling off the trainer kept shocking him with the shock collar her response to any of our questions was ( Light that bitch up) to get him to do what we are asking . She was not qualified enough to train our pup. He got nasty sores on his back legs they told us its from him being in the kennel and the cement . He lost big patches of hair, and lost alot of weight . We took our pup 30 lbs of dog food for his stay in the kennel but he lost that kind of weight. .They Charged us 528.00 for the shity services that they claimed they did. receipt paid in full and the receptions signature saying paid full. the day of check out they noticed they didn't charge us right and that we still owed 60.00 if we didnt give the money to them they wouldst let us have our pup, So they asked us to pay 31.00 and they would call it even. This school is terrible. I would not recommend anyone to take their dog there, they don't train the dog to do anything they abuse the dog to get them to listen and to follow along They broke our pinch collar the metal prongs are bent. .We was told they was going to get a hold of Tom Rose him self and tell him about our issues and see about getting our 31.00 back,and about how they abused our pup,but They are avoiding our calls ,they don't answer the phone or they don't call back when we leave voice mails. If they did this to my pup, I can only imagine what they have done to the other puppies. read more
