Customer service at Rubini jewelers is fantastic. My watch wasn't keeping time as well as I thought it could. The staff politely helped me know that technical jeweler was available and invited me to come in. He looked at my watch, tinkered with some things without changing the battery, told me he thought that might help my situation but would need several hours to confirm. He invited me to come in again if his tweaks did not work. I offered to pay. He said something cute about not this time but please come back, and I'll happily take your money another time. I "discovered" Rubini's just 2 or 3 years ago when researching places to have multiple pieces repaired/resized. I have had rings resized, diamonds replaced, watch batteries changed, a pendant made and just recently an antique gold bracelet repaired. Spoke with the lady over the phone for a ring resizing, she was nice and polite and agreed to do a same day resizing. When I showed up at the store, she greeted me with an attitude with she kept up throughout our interaction. She then claimed my ring was not gold - without even testing it, solely based on how I looked. Therefore, she could not offer the service. Even though she had already agreed to prior in our phone call! I felt racially profiled cause there was literally no other reason for her to not AT LEAST test the ring. When I offered that I wasn't afraid of him and that I welcomed him and was happy to see him in my store, he expressed such touching gratitude that even I cried in happiness for the relief and acceptance he felt." To cater to the elderly clientele they moved to a "basement location" just a few steps below street level. They specialize in sports jewelry like rowing jewelry, ice hockey jewelry, and field hockey jewelry. Of course they also have rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pendants, chains etc. They "Specialize in Everything." I was referred here by my sister in law, but we have had nothing but trouble with this place. We simply wanted to get my engagement ring re-sized and engraved and have had to go back to this place FOUR times. They got the size wrong the first time and second time. Then when I picked it up again, I found that there were indentations in my ring from where they clamped it down! Also because mine is a white gold ring, the plating wore off from their work, and it had a very yellowish sheen. This is normal of white gold, but NOBODY told us at the shop and we had to call back when I noticed the yellowness in natural lighting. They then re-plated it and tried to correct the dents they made in my ring. However, I can STILL see dents and scratches, and it looks like the plating was not very well-done. What's worse, every time that they have "finished" their work, nobody ever called us to tell us it is ready to pick up. They took down our number incorrectly, but even after we made sure they had the right number, we didn't hear from them unless we were the ones that called. This means that we have just had to wait indefinitely for the ring, and make time out of our days to contact them constantly. The whole experience with them has been extremely frustrating and stressful, even though they have been apologetic, and have been nice to try and re-do the work, it has taken up so much of our weekends these past few months. As this is my engagement ring, I do not want there to be so many imperfections - I wear and look at this ring every day. I do not think this place is very professional. We are taking this ring elsewhere just to not deal with them anymore. read more

I instantly fell in love with it but settled on the hockey stick ring instead. I live in FL so I had to get it shipped to me. Shipping was fast as I was excited to get my ring. First of all, jewelry stores kind of intimidate me. I feel like a lot of times they're like mechanics--you go in for one repair and you find out seven other things are wrong and they push you to buy things you don't need. This happened to me last month at jeweler downtown. I went in for an appraisal and left after spending a couple hundred bucks on repairs, etc. and was told that the bezel of my beloved 1920s needed to be completely replaced. Ugh. Three weeks later after the pricey repair one of the small diamonds of the ring fell out. I came to Rubini at the recommendation of a friend. The experience was night and day from the other jewelers. Jaime replaced the diamond and fixed my ring. Turns out that a few of the other smaller diamonds were loose (even though they were supposedly tightened a few weeks ago), so he took care of those. The price point was more than fair, much cheaper than I expected. All of this happened while I waited--no more than 20 minutes. I perused the rest of the cabinets and at no time did I feel pressured into buying anything. Happy to say that Rubini will be my go to jewelers. read more

Went here to get links taken out of my watches (3 of them) owner is super nice and charged me $15 for all of them to be done. Other places in old town charged $30+. Plus their dog who just paces in the store (small store, HUGE old dog) was the SWEETEST and once he was done getting his pets in just laid down out of the way of customers. I popped in here to get the prongs on my diamond ring tightened. They did the job in 5 minutes and charged $10, which is a good deal. They didn't clean my ring, though, which is something other jewelers usually do when I have the prongs tightened (unfortunately, a four-prong solitaire setting lends itself to a need for frequent tune-ups), but I guess for $10, I can't complain too much. Update (3/3/2016): I went back to Rubini to get my diamond ring reset from a four-prong to a six-prong setting. They did it very quickly, did a nice job, and the price was reasonable ($250 for a new platinum setting). They also measured my finger and I found out that I am a size 4.5 rather than a 6, so I got my ring resized as well! read more

If I could give zero stars for this place, I would. I had high hopes for getting custom jewelry but was let down by the lack of professionalism and performance. On the telephone and via email, I was told they could make what I wanted without a problem but problems were all I encountered. I wasn't looking for anything exquisite, just sterling silver and gold filled shepherd hooks for earrings in a certain size. I went to the shop with a sample of what I wanted and they photocopied it for comparison. They also took measurements which were wrong, so when I returned to the shop two weeks later the shepherd hooks were not the size I wanted. I gave them another chance to get it right, and waited three additional weeks but no one ever called or emailed to pick up the hooks. When I went to the shop, I was told no one was able to get to the hooks but they would be completed. I had absolutely no faith in their ability and received a refund. I would never recommend Rubini Jewelers to anyone. read more

In five years I've only written one bad review here on yelp. Today will be the second time, after my shockingly rude treatment by the woman at the front desk of Rubini Jewelers. I went to Rubini to have the prongs tightened on my engagement ring. The great reviews on yelp boosted my confidence in the store. I called first so that I could make sure I wasn't coming in when the jeweler wasn't available. From the moment I arrived, the woman at the front of the store (I did not get her name), a tall, nice looking young lady in a gray, short-sleeved top and curly chestnut hair that was up in a bun, was not the most friendly in terms of demeanor. I explained to her I had called about fixing my ring, and throughout the consultation her demeanor was simply rude. She told me I had a crack in my shank, and told me to look at it through the loop. Sure enough, she was right. She gave me advice that I could perhaps find out from the jeweler who made it (they are on the west coast which is why I didn't try them in the first place) to see if they might repair it. If I preferred after to bring it back to Rubini, I could. I thought that was sound advice, and thought I would call at that moment to see what their policy was, given that I wouldn't have time to drive back to Rubini if I decided have them do it. She was very condescending in her answer, saying she would "wait right here for me." I'm not sure how my manner might have upset her, there were two other colleagues of hers in the store so I think they could attest to my politeness. Maybe she was having a bad day. But I was so astounded by her condescending attitude toward me that I decided to leave. I'm extremely disappointed and definitely would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

They converted a beautiful tri-metal brooch of mine into a ring and did a superb job, including repatinating it because a little of the finish burned away during the process.
