We have shopped at The Toy Shop twice, both times with our granddaughter. The first trip was delightful, just because the staff were so kind while our granddaughter took her time selecting toys. When we returned with her for the second time, she picked out two additional toys for her siblings, similar to one she got herself. On her way out of the store, she accidentally broke one of the new toys. Within a minute, one of the employees came out and told her she could pick another one and didn't even charge us for it. It took over an hour just to take in all of the amazing store...and my kid wasn't even with me! The store where all of the locals go. Fantastic assortment of every major specialty toy brand you can think of. With amazing selections of those brands - yet still a charming, small local toy store. Sweeeet employees as well. Learning/discovery area, game section, book zone, baby zone, arts and crafts area (cooool stuff), goody bin area, kid furniture, dolls, riding toys. I don't know it would be possible to have a bad attitude working in a toy store, but I've definitely been to a few in my day where bored hipsters pointed vaguely in the direction of what I asked them about or worse, big box stores where teenage employees gave a blank stare as I tried to describe a particular toy. NOT SO at The Toy Shop! Can't find what you're looking for (and no one would blame you - it's packed to the gills) just ask one of the very friendly employees. They'll probably have other great suggestions for you as well. There was even a shop cat that fell asleep on the counter amidst all the Christmas mayhem. I've been here twice in the last month and plan to return instead of ordering online. I haven't been brave enough to actually bring my kids along. Getting them to leave in less than an hour would be a tough proposition! read more

omg, one stop shop!! we love this store and the staff and go here for every birthday gift we have to buy. they carry a lot of safe and toxic free toys, top trends, and will wrap all the presents you need for free. Recently for my daughters party which was right by the toy store I filled out their Registry, and my daughter got so many gifts that she wanted plus they stayed open a little late to help the people coming to our party! Best toy store ever! To start the ladies working behind the counter were very friendly with an instant greeting and offers to help find anything. That starts every experience off right. The store was much bigger inside than it appeared outside which just added to its toy awesomeness. The selection was fabulous. It is not your standard department store or Toys R Us selection. They have a wider range of brands and styles of toys with things to promote learning and a variety of play. Sections for dress up, discovery learning, non-Barbie dolls, and a big array of small stuff as well. If you want to get great Christmas gifts for ages 8 and under this place is incredible. Plus we sat and talked toys and the staff was very knowledgeable even about overseas toys and what they could and couldn't order. I just can't say enough about this place. read more

On our search for family friendly activities in wine country, I came across this toy store on yelp. They had a pretty nice selection considering the size of the shop. My son was mesmerized by the train tables and cars. They also had several Chicka Chicka Boom Boom toys, which I've only ever seen online. The people working there were friendly but not pushy, and we didn't feel pressured to buy anything. I was quite surprised when we told my son it was time to go and he put down the trains and followed us out the door. This is a fun stop for kids and adults alike. read more

A great toy shop in downtown Sonoma! We stopped by as we had some time to kill in the area and thought I could get some Christmas shopping done (I know, I'm a little late). I loved their little girls section - it had me reminiscing on toys I had as a kid. And they had some great items that would be perfect for the kids in my family. The main toy section had some great looking stuff - a lot of it not your normal chain toy store fare. And the sales ladies were very helpful. Every nook and cranny in the store had something fun to check out. We ended up picking out some dress up dolls that the staff was friendly enough to gift wrap. read more

The staff is very friendly and if you are looking for a gift they have the best suggestions to meet your price range for the age/gender you are buying for. I've been coming here for years, and it's always such a pleasure to come in and see what's new or what the latest thing is for kids. Just came in this weekend to find a birthday gift for my 5-year old niece and was introduced to a line of toys called Shopkins. I looked at it and thought...really? Kids are into this? I didn't think it looked like anything much, just a lot of miniature things, like food, clothes, etc., but the clerk told me it's all the rage. I ended up getting two boxes of Shopkins and a mood ring. They wrapped everything (which is the best service, ever, when you're shopping last minute and on your way to a party), and I was on my way. As soon as my niece opened up her presents, her face lit up, and she and her sister were ooohing and ahhhhing about what was in the boxes. That is the best feeling to have-- a kid loving what you got them, because their expressions and sentiments are always so honest. Her mom asked me how I knew to get the Shopkins, and I told her that I always buy my gifts here, and know what to pick , because this shop is always in the know. Highly recommend. Our local treasure that has been around since I was a kid I can't say enough about this store. Large selection of toys for all ages and genders and the prices are comparable to Target!! I hate to ditch a local Sonoma business but unfortunately my experience has been bad. I had just moved here and received a 10% off coupon for the store. Went I went inside, I had left it at home. I picked a Thomas the Train engine and went to pay. I told them I forgot the coupon and the owner told me "well use it next time". That plus all the "Don't do this or that" signs all throughout the store and the definitely higher prices than online should have warned me. I went back to show my son what I had bought and he told me we already had this engine. I went back immediately and picked out a more expensive train to exchange with. The owner told me that since the other train was out of its package I couldn't exchange it any more. Well so much for me ever frequenting this store again. As much as it pains me but my kids will not get any more toys from this store. read more

I am a grandfather who travels for a living. I seek out boutique toy stores to get unique, stimulating toys, games and puzzles for my young grandchildren. The Toy Shop in Santa Rosa is my West Coast favorite. I go through the store and want to buy EVERYTHING. More than once I have been able to find a special mermaid ONLY at The Toy Store. I especially like it because the owners AND EVERY employee I've ever talked to are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the toys. They share the whimsy necessary to enjoy buying toys for kids you love. Don't pay any attention to the grumpy person who has written the ONLY poor and not recommended review of this store. They are obviously stupid, unreasonably demanding and just angry. This is a wonderful store. Go there, it's fun!!!!! read more
