Dec/2021 my transmission went out. I thoroughly called around looking for the best price to warranty ratio. After looking at all the numbers Greg at The TransClinic was my choice. From our initial conversion I could tell he was honest and not going to up charge me. His lead time was accurate and did exactly as he said! Oct/2023 I had a hunch something was going on with my transmission so I call Greg since I still have a warranty. I feel some shops would beat around the bush and not want to cover it. NOT The TransClinic. Greg told me to bring it by immediately and to give him a few days to check it out. To our surprise an uncommon part had broke. He went through the rest of the transmission to make sure no fragments weren't floating around potentially damaging some else later covered by his 3 year unlimited mile warranty. I was referred to The Transclinic by my regular mechanic because the transmission was going out on my 2013 Scion xB (stick) and my regular guy can swap them out but doesn't rebuild them and he advised me the Transclinic would (in his professional opinion) do better work and probably for cheaper too. I showed up on a Friday afternoon and Greg (the owner) explained the process. They'd do a basic diagnostic for free, and if that confirmed the transmission was in trouble, they would call me to get approval to start the detailed diagnostic ($585), where they take the transmission out of the vehicle and take it all apart and review EVERYTHING. He called me later on Saturday to confirm it was the transmission. I approved the bigger diagnostic and he got back to me early next week to explain what was needed. Total cost out the door would be ~$2,200 (includes the $585 diagnostic) and include transmission rebuild and new clutch, as well as some minor related things. Estimated completion by end of the week and he called me saying it was ready Thursday afternoon. Clutch is smooth as butter now and a day later it started to make a couple of noises so I brought it in early Monday on my way to work and they put it on the lift while I waited and tightened a dust shield (no cost) and now it's perfect. Very happy with the work and happy with the service and pricing explanations etc. Greg also did some research on my vehicle since I was complaining about the transmission needing work after only 156K miles and he got back to me saying he spoke to others in the industry and it's a known-issue with my model. Many of them had problems and usually needed work at 80K miles. Anyway I hope to not need to return here for a long time, but if I have any future transmission issues, The Transclinic will be my first stop. read more

Been going to Trans clinic for some time now, not because I had to take my car back for repairs. I have been going back, because Greg and his crew are the best to my knowledge and research . They have done three car transmission 2004 Volvo , 2001 Yukon and 1965 Impala and worked on transmission and differential leaks on a 1995 Dodge 4X4 . This is my first review, and unfortunately was very disappointed in my experience with this transmission shop. Please consider other affordable mechanics and be mindfully cautious when choosing a shop to meet your circumstantial needs. Warning $3000 dollars later... I drive a 2009 Toyota Corolla, bought it brand new and have been the only driver. Check engine light went on for a torque converter repair and cyclinders. Locating this shop was easy through google however highly questionable communication style of the owner,Greg whom I called, who didn't seem to be doing any of the repairs him self considering his unknown expertise, instead contracting various mechanics to this peculiar shop(witnessed after visiting multiple times in a two week period). I called for a reasonable quote and inquiry to the repairs needed for my car. Greg immediately stated on the phone, "probably needs a whole new transmission rebuilt!"? This was a major red flag moment because I gave him specific computer codes of repair. Thereafter feeling overwhelmed, vulnerable about having to invest my time, money and trust for a working vehicle, he convinced me that his shop is referred by many Ojai mechanics where I live, I considered his word. Moving forward, Greg's integrity faulted after receiving my car back two weeks later worst off than taking it in prior. Instantly I recognized a VERY LOUD rattling that wasn't there before taking it to his shop. With major concern, lost of distrust and faith in this mans shop, Greg then told me that he was not responsible for the sound and told me to go to another mechanic in town to figure out the loud noise. This was very upsetting and dishonorable to his integrity of work being provided with a strong sense of detachment, greed and untrustworthy mechanics. He clearly demonstrated NO accountability, NO RESPONSIBILITY after paying him an unreasonable expensive invoice. Following up with the better business bureau and a police report. read more

I had a rebuild done on my ford ranger and 44000 mi after my 5th gear went out. I took it back to them and they told me it was going to be 2000-2300 to rebuild it again. As well as this being shity workmanship they couldn't find my old invoices from the other 2 times that my truck was there after it was rebuilt. He helped us fix my nephew's Mercedes transmission leak without needing a rebuild, even though it was an unusual part that, even the dealership didn't have. He fixed it for dirt cheap! It still doesn't leak 4 months later. I had to have my other nephew's Toyota automatic transmission rebuilt. They had fair pricing when compared to competitors. They did a superb job on it. He has done some free diagnostics for me in the past, when I first met him. My brother told me about him being fair. I used to work as a mechanic. I don't say this lightly... I recommend this place extremely, I currently have 1999 Mustang GT which needed work on the manual transmission. Well I talked to Greg who was more then helpful for everything and very forward about his approach, which I liked. Called me on a timely manner and had finished the overhaul in about 2 days which was nice to have done so fast. I recommend them strongly because they offer experience which is hard to find at places. Many of this "Automotive" repair places are looking for a quick buck and they let you go off running. He rebuilt it for the price that was quoted and had it done exactly when he said it would be. From the moment that a spoke to him he took very very good care of me and my vehicle. He was even kind enough to come to my home 2 months after he did the transmission to help me with a dead battery....for free! Greg told me he could fix my car for $1700. He said his research showed the part he put in my car would fix my car. I had told him I might sell it in the future. After repairing it he said this car should last a long time and all I have to do in the future was fix the front wheel bearings. A couple weeks later my light came on again. I called him and he called me a liar about 4xs on the phone. I went down in person and he denied ever saying he could fix my car and said to fix it would cost $8100. He basically said he just reset the code for $1700 so i could sell it. He lied about everything he told my wife and I. He was very confrontational and a lying sack if shit. Don't trust this snake. Watch your receipt. Get everything In writing. This is the place and the guy that gives car mechanics a bad name. Worst person I have ever dealt with in auto repair. Ripped me off for $1700.
