The fact that there is a farm to table style (at least as close as it gets to that genre in Tulsa) restaurant less than a few miles from where is live is super exciting. The fact that I've lived here for a year, and still had not tried it yet...a little embarrassing. Lately, I have been seeking out healthier dining options which is more difficult than you might think. With the "Asian fusion" menu options, one could not get bored trying the different tasty delights The Tropical has to offer. Our server was particularly attentive and offered great service, and knew the menu very well. She made great recommendations as well. Starting with the lettuce wraps, as suggested, was definitely the way to go! They were absolutely delicious, and you can tell the ingredients are fresh. Tom Kha soup is a Thai soup that I make a point to try at least a cup of at any acclaimed Thai restaurant, and the Tom Kha at The Tropical did not disappoint. I'd rate the soup in my top 5 at least (I had the tofu version) which is quite a compliment because I have tried in the ballpark of 100 different Tom Kha soups in the last 5 years all over the U.S. *Note: I have not traveled to Thailand so I can't really say I've ever eaten the best Tom Kha yet, but it's waiting for me. I've gone to this place for years now and I cant recommend it enough. I also do Muay Thai and whenever we have guests for seminars, they demand "The Tropical" or "Lana Thai" because it tastes like the food in Thailand. It was my first time here last week & I'm giving it a 5 star. I think they deserve it when you leave wanting to come back for more. The restaurant is a little hidden from the street but it was pretty busy when we arrive (dinner rush). The atmosphere is nice and calm and we were greeted and seated right away. We ordered some calamari for our appetizer. The sauces that they served with it goes really well together. I like the little hint of sweet and spicy it gave. For our entree, my husband ordered beef & pork Pad Thai and I ordered the chicken red curry with fried rice. I loved my entree! Next time I am definitely trying the crab fried rice! After many (maybe too many) more visits to the Tropical, I feel I need to bump my review up to 5 stars. They consistently deliver on really delicious Thai food with super fresh ingredients and great service. Seriously, they rock. Some additional reasons why they are amazing: 1. They don't skimp on the veggies in whatever dish you order. You're not just getting noodles or onions or bell pepper... you're getting a good amount of whatever the primary veggie is in the dish you're ordering. 2. The veggies really do seem fresh. They use fun and interesting vegetables, not just the standard bell pepper, onions, peas, carrots. 3. Everything is seriously delicious. I haven't had a less than awesome dish here. My favorites - pad ma khur (eggplant dish), gang pah (the best broth curry ever) and lettuce wraps (way better than the lettuce wraps you've ever had anywhere else. They are so good) 4. The service is great - We usually opt for take-out instead of dine-in and it's a great experience. They are really friendly on the phone when you order. The food is prepared pretty quickly. If I ever have to wait, they always offer me a beverage and make sure to keep checking on the food, even if they're busy. I've never waited more than 10 or 15 minutes and it was because I arrived like 2 minutes after I placed the order. If you want Thai in Tulsa... this is the place to go. The wait staff is very professional. The location is quite inconspicuous which, in my opinion, puts them at a slight disadvantage due to poor visibility. Hidden treasure! By far one of the best kept culinary secrets of Tulsa... Driving up, I was less than impressed until I realized that the garden up front contained every herb used in most kitchens. We arrived around 1130am on a tuesday, so it was rather quite. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and very clean. The staff was efficient and professional. The menu was rather large, but I noticed most of the dishes contained redundant ingredients. We started off with the lettuce wraps, amazing! By far the best I have had, not only in Tulsa. My friends ordered a coconut soup and spicy panang, I order yellow curry fried rice with chicken. Everything came out ridiculously quickly, and steaming hot. Every bite was full of intense flavor. For the 3 of us we spent $60 (including a $15 tip). I will definitely be back, there was not a single downside to this visit. I only question why the place isnt packed every second it is open. The Tropical is an interesting Thai Fusion place. My wife and I were both surprised and delighted. The food certainly isn't authentic Thai (though they do have a few seemingly authentic dishes), but it's all the better for it. The fusion dishes illustrate a unique pallet of flavors you can't really find anywhere else. The location is iffy, and our service was not very good, but the food more than made up for it. Upon entering, it felt like an upscale Thai restaurant. There was a wine rack, and what looked like a full bar. We had the pad see ew, the crab fried rice, papaya salad, and the Tom kha soup. The crab fried rice was delicious! The amount of crab meat was unexpectedly generous, and the fried rice was seasoned well. Papaya salad was spicy, just the way I like it. However, the fried wings that came with it was not cooked all the way through. My husband bit into one and it was ice cold in the center. We sent it back, and they just tossed it back in the deep fryer and gave it back to us (already bitten into wing included). We thought it was odd, but it didn't really bother us. If that bothers you, then it may be an issue. Tom kha soup was delicious! I didn't even have a chance to take a picture of it because we ate it so fast. Would definitely get it again! This is the only place you should go for thai food. I have been searching for about 5 years for a thai place that would be equal to my favorite restaurant in Norman--I finally found it about 3 weeks ago at the Tropical. Since then, I have been here about 5 times. You cannot find better Pad Thai or Ka Prao. Watch your spicy levels on the Ka Prao a 3/4 in this is much spicier than a 3/4 in the Pad Thai--or live on the wild side and give the 5 a try, just ask for a pitcher of water with it :) Everyone raves about the lettuce wraps, but I have to be honest, these are not my favorite. In fact, I don't like them, however, you should give them a try. If you can save room grab some homemade ice cream--you will not be disappointed. The ambiance for this restaurant is a little bit of romantic with a side of casual if that makes any sense. You can go with a big group for a birthday and feel classy or you can show up in jeans and t-shirt with your husband and eat as well. My point is that you get all kinds in here. read more

Fantastic. We ordered 2 sea bass entrees, each with different toppings and sauces. The choices for fresh seafood, sauces and toppings create many combinations to choose from. The fish was well cooked and they serve it over top of the "toppings" (a bed, really) and with the sauce on the side. You can taste the quality of the fish and add as much flavor as you like without it being drenched in sauce. Our group also had the red curry and the yellow curry fried rice. Also very good. Service: our server knew the menu very well, what options were available for each dish and how it would be served. The same level of knowledge that you would expect from any high end restaurant. To top it off, the kitchen wasn't happy with the way they plated my wife's sea bass, so they served it anyway to prevent a delay and then brought out a complimentary piece that was plated better. I guess they take pride in their work! Final note- I guess you could come here just for the usual Thai food and be pleased, but the way they serve their seafood makes Tropical more than just another Thai place! read more

Terrible experience last night for my father's 87th birthday. The service was bad from when we stepped in the door... we should have known. we have been there several times and have told lots of people about it, and we will still tell people but not in a good way. It took us over 2 hours to get our food..one plate at a time an that was ,"tepid"... 4 people had finished their food before they even started preparing the last 3. We finally had them pack it to go. To make up for this terrible experience the manager offered to take 10% off our billl... Really! It was just a terrible, the worst dining experience I have ever been involved in. Up until today, This has always been my go to absolute favorite restaurant. The food is always amazing. But recently the service has become incredibly slow; but I stuck by them because I like the food so much. However, today I placed a pick up order and I arrived just a few minutes after the specified time. And then I waited and waited and waited over half an hour before complaint (at this point it's been a hour since placing the order) until I had to call it quits and go back to work cause I was simply out of time. They refused to cancel the order and refund me so I contacted GrubHub to let them know, and the restaurant had claimed I had already picked up the order, which was a bald face lie and was still refused a refund. Soooo this has out a permanent bad taste in my mouth for my former favorite restaurant. I simply could've apologize and cancel the order, and I would've been irritated, and still returned but since they lied, they have lost a valued customer. So sad and disappointing. read more

We tried a 2 and found it to be very favorable. It was spicy but not overwhelming. A 3 might have been too much for us. They brought our food to the parking lot for pick up. Visiting Tulsa on business, I went in for take out. I was greeted warmly and ushered to to a comfortable booth to review the menu while I made a dinner selection. The interior is nicely decorated. The filling was magic. I had to skip the peanuts so I thought it wouldn't be as good, but I didn't miss them. The cilantro was fresh and the combination of flavors was food-a-lishious. The yellow curry fried rice was with tofu. They braised the tofu so it came out like chicken (but it wasn't). That was also fabulous.
