Up until today, This has always been my go to absolute favorite restaurant. The food is always amazing. But recently the service has become incredibly slow; but I stuck by them because I like the food so much. However, today I placed a pick up order and I arrived just a few minutes after the specified time. And then I waited and waited and waited over half an hour before complaint (at this point it's been a hour since placing the order) until I had to call it quits and go back to work cause I was simply out of time. They refused to cancel the order and refund me so I contacted GrubHub to let them know, and the restaurant had claimed I had already picked up the order, which was a bald face lie and was still refused a refund. Soooo this has out a permanent bad taste in my mouth for my former favorite restaurant. I simply could've apologize and cancel the order, and I would've been irritated, and still returned but since they lied, they have lost a valued customer. So sad and disappointing. read more

The Tropical is definitely a hidden gem in Tulsa. Not in an area that I would expect a restaurant like this. Tucked behind some car dealerships and stores you will find the tropical. An oasis of Asian fusion cuisine in a rather desolate area. Started out ordering their noted lettuce wraps. Typically not a fan of lettuce wraps due to water chestnuts (yuck). Luckily this did not contain those and used a fried rice noodle that added a surprised crunch and crisp to the dish. Our group ended up ordering several dishes and all sharing to make sure we could sample all the wonderful dishes. The main ones were an off the menu eggplant dish, which in season they chef invites you to pick an eggplant from their garden to prepare. The others were a red curry and a pad thai. The red curry was good, not the best I've ever had, I was turned onto their spice levels after eating, so I'm sure with more spice it would have been better. Next the pad Thai was absolutely delicious. Has a lighter taste than the kind I am used to eating in Tulsa. Asking for a 4 spice level was also a warm delight. If this restaurant were in an area where I could go to the bars afterwards, I would be a regular. The food is great and has a light fresh taste. I finally tried this place after my fiance's roommate had kept suggesting it to us. He went to get takeout for us so I didn't get to see the restaurant but he said it had a great upscale vibe and that we need to go back and eat in. The pad thai was perfect. I am a major pad thai judger since I eat it about once a week. This is exactly how I like mine (not watery) and has a great flavor. Of all of the Thai restaurants in Tulsa this is the one to go to. The food here has an extra touch when it comes to preparation and presentation. There are a lot of options to choose from and dished can be customized to suit any dietary needs. Great place for vegetarians and vegans by the way. I really enjoyed my trip to the Tropical. The food was very good and the service was exactly what you would expect from a nice establishment (glass is always full but they're never doting). It is a pretty pricey place, but the quality of the meal is on par with its price. The only negative aspect of my experience was that I occasionally caught a smell of manure (or something similar). It was very faint, and it was because of something outside the restaurant, not the establishment itself. It didn't cause any problems (I mean, we're in Oklahoma. You get used to cattle smells), but it distracted me from my delicious meal a couple times. read more

FANTASTIC. Stopped here on the way home to OKC on a road trip, based on the Yelp reviews. They hype was true - it was absolutely delicious. I had grilled salmon with Thai garlic sauce, sweet pepper mango and corn cakes. Wonderful. But the greatest part of the meal was the lettuce wrap appetizer. It. Was. To. Die. For. If you love Asian lettuce wraps order it. A little expensive, but it was huge (definitely to share). The only problem is that I live in Oklahoma City and this place is in Tulsa. Or is it good news? I really loved the fusion of the flavors that this Thai cuisine delivers. Each dish is excellent in taste and spice. I enjoyed the sea food medley in Thai curry with coconut milk. It had a delicious punch of mint and spicy. Not expensive and the service was superb I will return soon to try a few more dishes. Instant winner! read more

I was super excited to stumble upon this place while in town for a conference. They said they could make nearly anything on the menu vegan!! I ordered the Tom kha soup and lettuce wraps. Both were good, but not excellent. The soup was much sweeter than most but loaded with yummy veggies. The lettuce wraps were a bit strange for me. They contained fried rice, ginger, cilantro, peanuts, and more. They were good but a little too much for my taste. I felt like all the flavors were competing. I always enjoy dining here! I had the mild Pad Thai with shrimp with a nice, crisp glass of Reisling. Upon arrival, we were immediately seated. We loved the low light atmosphere with evidence of the Thai culture surrounding us. Our service was good, however you had a quite a bit of wait before we ordered. Tropical is a hidden gem, tucked 100 yards off Memorial. I like it that way, I'm selfish. It's like I was one of the first few hundred people who discovered an underground music artist, I don't want other people to hype my hidden gem artist and thrust the artist into the mainstream limelight. Next thing you know the artist is playing pop music for the masses inevitably get the artist sells out. Anyways get the Corn Cakes!!! It's a top 3 restaurants in Tulsa for me. We tried The Tropical based on Yelp reviews. We showed up and the doors were locked, being a little confused because it was business hours. They had just reopened for the evening and forgot to unlock their doors. No biggie, they apologized numerous of times. We were instantly sat, and offered drinks. We ordered Edamame for our appetizer which was hot and tasty and a good size portion. Our two main entrees came out quite a bit later, but so full of flavor and they didn't go easy on the sauce. Which I greatly appreciate it. You could rate your spicy level from 1-5, and both entrees were ordered on the 4 scale. Definitely spicy and totally worth it! read more

The Spaghetti Kee Mao I had was incredibly luscious. I ordered heat factor 1 and had some bean sprouts added. Perfection. My daughter-in-law loved her green curry, my son really liked his fried trout dish, and my husband was really impressed with his perfect rib eye steak. The waitress was very nice, and did a great job. We told her we would all like to taste the Tom Kha soup so we ordered it as an appetizer and she was brought the soup with four small bowls for us to share, without us asking for extra bowls. We found Tropical in the Urban Weekly when we were looking for a restaurant that had live music and the menu looked decently priced so we made a reservation. My brother and his girlfriend are vegan and my husband and I (and the rest of our party) are definitely not, so it was very nice to have a menu that could please everyone. Our server was very good, in fact, all of the staff seemed very nice. We seemed to encounter several different members of the staff and everyone was very helpful (and friendly). Everyone LOVED their dinner. My brother and his girlfriend said that it was the best they'd ever had (and they aren't particularly easy to impress). My dad was the only one who seemed even the slightest bit disappointed and it was simply because his meal had a bit too much onion for his taste. The live music and atmosphere were both very nice and we all decided that we would return often since it pleased vegans and non-vegans alike. Oh and the prices were not bad at all. My parents had two entrees and the lettuce wraps and their tab was only $34. (My husband and I bought a bottle of alcohol so ours was a bit more expensive!) I adore Thai food. :) So, I was delighted to find this place that is fairly close to my home has delicious Thai food. Served with timely and friendly service. They season it just right and the prices are reasonable, as well. I have been a few times now and the quality has been consistent. I also really appreciate that they offer Vegan/Vegetarian options. The dining area has a woody-contemporary-Thai charm. There is a garden where they grown some of the food they serve and some of the herbs they use, as well. Definitely give it a try. read more

First time visit to The Tropical at lunch. The menu selections appear to be extensive. Ordered Pad Thai with chicken at a spice level of 3 (1-5). A little disappointed that a 9.95$ meal had less than 2 ounces of chicken and a pinch of bean sprouts. Although the spice level was great, the meal was on the sweet side for this patron. Being plant-based in Tulsa is not as fun as being one in LA. There aren't too many options around for real, savory, plant-based food. Now, I mostly cook at home for the mentioned reasons but the Tropical has become one of my favorite restaurants, ever. That is saying a lot as I've previously lived in very culturally diverse places like L.A and Miami where there are plenty of options to choose from. I've mostly ordered the Pad Thai with tofu, and I believe I've tried a mojito from there. This place never disappoints my random Thai food cravings. The waitresses are all very nice and friendly which makes the whole experience even better. From out of town so found The Tropical on Yelp. Happy to see so many great restaurants to choose from in Tulsa. Tonight is our last night here and I wish we'd tried it earlier in the week - so many great dishes to choose from I'd like to come back and try more. We had the Corn Cakes appetizer as recommended by other reviewers. They are made with corn and green beans - delicious, crispy and not greasy. The peanut sauce accompanying them was really good. I had the (Ground Chicken Lettuce Wraps) under the Soup and Salad choices. Don't remember the menu name or number but it's the last item in that category on the menu. I asked for 5 (the highest) on the Spicy scale and found it spicy but tolerable (I love spicy food). The spice didn't overpower the flavor in the dish - it was delicious and I would order it again. My son had a pork noodle entree - sorry, I don't recall which one but he asked for 3 on the spice scale and it was spicy enough for him. He also had the Thai Tea which he really liked. My only suggestion is that they come around to ask for a refresh of drinks from the bar. I was happy to see so many choices of Wines by the Glass but I just had one - by the time our server came around to ask how we were doing we were almost done eating and ready to check out. It is a very nice looking place. I personally thought the food was over priced. We had the calamari for our appetizer. I had better calamari at the cheesecake factory. My entree was the grilled sea bass with lemon butter sauce and garlic fried rice. It ran for $23. The sea bass wasn't even a filet. The portion was tiny. I wouldn't recommend it at all. The flavor wasn't all the way there. My boyfriend ordered the lobster. It was a 8 oz lobster tail with a side of rice. Literally that was it. That ran for $33. He said it wasn't even good. None of our orders came with veggies. I had a groupon that I used that was worth $30 and I still didn't think the food was worth it. We still ended up paying and additional $47 which was ridiculous.
