The building is old but the breakfast is good and the people nice, friendly and attentive.

Amazing bagels and sandwiches. We loved the ambiance and the shop was a perfect stop on our road trip.

This place has the best smoothies I've ever had! Also, don't even get me started on the pastries!

My Dad lives in Grass Valley and every time I come up from the Bay Area this is where I eat…read more Now, caveat, he's in his 70s and thinks a $19 sandwich with housemade meats on craft bread is absolutely outrageous, he would be just as happy eating at Subway. There's nothing wrong with his opinion, I don't eat that garbage, but if you can't tell or don't care about quality (yes, I'm being snarky, but seriously, if you're going to complain you have options...) Anyhow, this is where I come to eat, I always pay, and he complains about the price of the sandwich (I paid for) while he eats all of his sandwich and then finishes mine- it is also a lot of food, usually two meals for me, but I'm not a voracious eater. If you're still here after my rant, the food here is quality, you're going to pay more, you're going to wait for it to be prepared, because its not some cafeteria conveyer belt sandwich- it's crafted. The shop is very small, ambiance is- small meat counter, the soda machine has been broken as long as I've been coming, there's no indoor dining. I know, I'm not selling it. BUT Outside you have outdoor tables under the trees, there are birds singing, it feels completely Nevada City, much preferred to eating inside. Typically I order the Reuben and I think that's their best sandwich, but I've also tried the Roast Beef, Italian Ham, and Turkey. I know I mentioned their soda machine is broken, but they have plenty of sodas in a cooler as well as a few very good sides- I'm partial to the Dijon potato salad. So final thoughts- cheapskates with broken tastebuds stay home, let the real ones eat.

Wish I'd read the other 1-star reviews before ordering here on the basis of the 4.6 rating. How-…read moreHOW??- do 3 sandwiches and a bottle of ice tea come up to $67?!? I left a 15% tip hoping it was going to be the greatest lunch ever. BEWARE of the incredible underwhelm once you unwrap to see the smallest sub ever, and then the bland flavor of turkey and hardest rye roll that my dog wouldn't even bother with. What a bummer. At least I don't have to be curious about this place anymore. And I assume times are hard for local businesses, so I'm glad I supported them this one time.

What a hidden gem! We were out for a leisurely Saturday drive in the Sierra foothills and wanted…read moresome good food - boy did this place deliver! The wood-fired pizza was one of the best we've ever had - how they get their crust so thin is amazing! We also shared an order of the chicken parm, which was delicious, with enough leftover for a meal the next day. The service was outstanding, and we really appreciated the owner coming out to say hello and ask how we liked our meal. We will definitely come back here again!

Unfortunately, it was nothing good. No comparison to the previous owners in quality and experience…read more New owners. Gluten Free was an issue and owner complained a bit, saying call ahead for GF pasta. The GF pasta was several clumpy messes in an Alfredo sauce. Gnocchi with Alfredo was horrible. Gnocchi was gummy, not fresh. The Alfredo sauce tasted like Classico from a jar. So, so terrible. Furthermore, ice cubes in your water were not an option. Asked for ice cubes, his son said he could give a little. He brought 1/2 glass...we shared it among the two of us. No ice cubes. Perhaps, my expectations are to high; but, always thought Ice water is a restaurant staple. Dessert refrigerator was empty. No fresh italian dessert. Baklava was in the case. The other issue, if he has no business he closes earlier and doesn't stay around. Wanted pizza one night, drove there from Penn Valley an hour before closing and coincidentally the owner was driving out. He stopped his car, asked what I wanted, I said "Pizza". He said sorry no business closed early. i said oh and went to Pete's Pizza had a nice pizza and drove home. Finally, in my opinion, it's not fresh Italian. It's from a jar, packaged and frozen products put together slabbed on a plate and called Italian. The owner commuted pizza was easier, pull dough from freezer, put sauce, toppings and bake. Italian food needs Italian bread, breadsticks...not pita bread. Unfortunately, very terrible food and experience. Hope many others enjoy the food and experience. Local won't be coming back. God bless the previous owners, good and hard work.
