I ate here yesterday and the service was very lacking. I ordered nachos and a wrap and both items came out wrong. I ate the nachos anyway however my wrap was re made twice. Not sure if the waitress did not take note or the line cooks don't care and pass out what they want. The ice tea had a heavy Chlorine like Taste. Then the soda machine does not carbonate drinks. Lastly for everyone sake, clean your bathrooms. The bathroom complaints from other yelpers existed for years and it look that way. Super gross and I can't imagine how disgusting the kitchen is. read more

Walked in the wrong door I guess cause it wasn't marked and had to walk back out and around the back of the building. Once we got back there the 6-7 workers stood there not acknowledging us or seating us. Just left because of horrible service. read more

Fish and chips: average. Sauerkraut balls: really good, but we had to send them back because they were frozen on the first try. Second try was much more of a success. Server didn't know much about the beers, or how to describe the different ones. But she was very sweet. She was young, possibly new, so we'll give her the benefit of the doubt. Coleslaw was pretty good. Bean salad not bad. My dad wasn't crazy about his shrimp- somewhat bland. Everything was just okay. Great venue on the lake. The food was good but much more important was the staff. We had a server wearing the wings of an angel. She was beyond amazing. We watched her navigate 3 levels of the establishment and apologized for the time ot.took to get us our drinks. The time was manageable..no need for an apology. Her name is Jenna. Stopped in for lunch on a barely crowded patio. Put drink order in ( 2 cokes for $7). Multiple other tables sat down and filled up. No one came back to take our order but they took orders of everyone else around us. Servers standing around talking and ignoring customers. Will not go back and won't recommend. read more

Visited here for the first time last weekend, Erica Dawn was playing and we love country music so we decided to check it out, it's beautifully perched on the water, with a lower and upper deck for those who want to eat outside, there's also an enclosed bar area off to the side as well. We only stayed for about an hour because it was so crowded with nowhere to sit or stand comfortably, however we would like to go back during the day and have a meal here. Only complaint i have is drinks were $1-2 more at the outside bar then they were inside, were we being overcharged or is there a reason for this? Seemed odd that prices weren't the same all around the board. read more

Went to the upper deck and accidentally left my credit card at the bar. Went back to get my card and they wouldn't let me in without paying the cover charge again. No one offered to go get it for me, but instead told me to pay or leave. Finally got them to let me in and retrieve my card after I threatened to call the police for theft. Food tasted fine but both my husband and I felt very sick to our stomachs the whole rest of the day... almost immediately. Felt a lot like food poisoning. Waitress was nice and fellow customer chatty (in a good way)... but won't go back to eat for sure! read more

When boating at PLX, this is the place to stop for drinks and/or dinner. We docked our boat one Friday night and grabbed a table on the deck. There were six of us, including four kids. Baskets of chips are given to you while you look at the menu. Drink prices are super low, and they carry quite a few craft beers. We got the jalapeño popper appetizer which were insanely spicy and we couldn't finish them but the cream cheese filling was good and the eggroll presentation was different than I'm used to. Good burger and fries and the kids love the chicken tenders. We will be back. read more

I had the jalapeno poppers. I appreciated the fact that these appeared to be "home made" and not pre-frozen from sysco or whatever shitty food distribution company exists up here. Also, the ranch-like dip served with the "poppers" appeared to "home made" as well - another plus. And it was good. The "poppers" themselves were pretty darn weak, as is common with pretty much all of the food I have tasted in this part of the country outside of a legitimate metropolitan area. It was quite bland. I had to use tobasco sauce to make a freaking jalapeno pepper spicy! WTF?!? The service was a bit off as well. I ordered chili, which never arrived, but I wasn't charged for it either. I would have ordered other items, but the server never returned. Again, on par with the restaurant experiences I've had in this region. This place seems like a summer party spot for people with nothing better to do. It's okay, the food is okay, the view is kinda neat (especially for Ohio), but unless you don't have any better options or unless you live around here, I would pass on this joint. read more

I've been to the upper deck on four occasion's now. It is a happening place for the 40+ crowd locals, many of whom arrive by pontoon boat. It is enjoyable to watch the sheriff ticket boaters while you imbibe. The eclectic crowd is chaos on Friday and Saturday night's. The last time I was there the food was noticeably fresher. The music was predominantly 70s and 80s but I heard club and oldies too.The downside of a popular restaurant is the amount of time it takes for service. Parking is challenging on a good night. Im not a fan of drinking out of plastic but they have Rhingeist Truth IPA. Don't go for the food or for the beer selection. This is a fun hang and I will return with revelers. read more

This is a great place, and a classic for the locals in Portage Lakes. My dad grew up mowing the lawn here, and on a recent trip to see family we gathered here for a quick lunch. The two best things about this place? The prices and the view! There is a huge patio for enjoying nice weather in the summer, and I didn't see a dish on the menu over $10. My family got two different types of pizza, chili dogs, two types of salads, and fried banana peppers and jalapenos. The buffalo chicken salad I had was wonderful- the half portion was incredibly large and filling. The buffalo chicken was extra spicy, which pared well with the thick bleu cheese dressing on top. The friend banana peppers were great! Stop by for a great view of the lake and some very cheap (yet tasty) eats. read more

I went to the upper deck yesterday to enjoy a band that I love to hear, fabulous voices. The Upper Deck has made many improvements in his last year to their outdoor accommodations which has made it very enjoyable. Yesterday was a little bit chilly so there were not as many people, but I have to say after being there all summer and enjoying the outdoor venue itself my food was served cold and I ordered a burger and fries. and The bathrooms at the upper deck are still in great need of improvement and repair. For a place that is pouring money into their establishment and getting some great returns for the amount of folks that love to be there during the summer months it's very unfortunate that the restroom accommodations are not larger, better equipped, cleaner and more functional. When you're paying money to go enjoy something you hope you have a great experience as well as be in a clean environment. I hope the upper deck and its owners and staff take that into consideration and make some necessary changes. I love to go there and hope that by the time next summer rolls around they will have made the changes necessary to make it a win win for their customers. read more

Horrible experience today I was attacked by the umbrellas on the deck. The Umbrellas were not weighted down. They came crashing on my head , shoulder amd back. It's a fun place to be and I recommend it if you're just wanting to hang and drink a few drinks. They've recently changed ownership and since then they BARELY ever get the food order right. I've been here multiple times with friends thinking it will get better and almost every time the order is messed up, lost or just totally not what you ordered. The communication between waitstaff and customers is awful- some of the servers waiting on you actually ignore you, especially if there is an issue with the food, until you confront them and blatantly ask about what's going on. I have driven past the Upper Deck a million times and have never had the desire to stop in. My husband and I were out on the boat the other day and in the mood to have something other than Howie's for a change, we decided to try the Upper Deck. We had the pretzel sticks, onion rings, wings, and a southwest chicken wrap. The onion rings were delicious, beer battered and crisp. The wrap was to die for, I absolutely loved it. Was invited to a retirement party at The Upper Deck this week. Was my first time seeing Portage Lakes. Definitely was a fun spot, and something I probably would not have found on my own. I only had drinks (2.75 for a Corona!! Say WHAT!). No Food. Definitely would like to come again on a gorgeous day and enjoy the great location. This bar is about as predictable as diarrhea. Most times its empty,save for a few hardcore alcoholics. It does appear to take on a whole better persona on Sunday funday, when they have Harleys and bands galore. I never know what to expect when I come here, but I never expect much. Very limited food menu, but they do have good service. They are a victim of their own patrons. Decent people watching here fo sho.
