I wasn't born with any birth defects that prevent me from understanding logic. That said, if I was writing a review for UPS (the delivery service) I might not give them a great review. However, this review is for the UPS STORE on Milwaukee Ave in Wicker Park. Here goes: It's a UPS Store. Kind of small compared to some I've been to. They will sell you shipping supplies and ship your package for a price to be determined by such factors as: size, weight, distance and packaging purchased for said item. They are open from 8am - 7pm on the weekdays which is nice. I shipped a book for an Amazon customer here. It did not cost more than the shipping voucher given to me by Amazon. This I was excited about. Overall, a very standard UPS store experience and I have no complaints other than the fact I had to dodge a bunch of yuppies with strollers to get to the store. Some other things to note: Once your package goes on the truck it is up to UPS to deliver it on time and to the right person. This store cannot control how well the drivers do their jobs. Also, if you don't like paying franchising fees, then please just package and ship your own stuff. UPS will come to your house to pick it up. (Whenever they feel like it.) So if you have time to wait around all day for a truck to come get your stuff, that might be worth it. These places were once called Mailboxes Etc. and they are not really directly related to UPS outside the name. The "UPS Store" label is a franchise that they buy into because it is good for marketing, but it raises the stores prices and limits them from shipping FedEX and generally raises the price of their items outright. Shipping with them means you pay more than shipping with UPS yourself. Their service ensures that you are packaging and shipping the item correctly. The trucks come at the beginning and end of each day and if you have a large item it might not fit on the morning truck - so yes, it could take an extra day to ship a big item from one of these stores. I do not work for these dudes and I'm glad that is the case. Other customers always seem to treat them like they're the de-facto source to go to whenever UPS messes up - which is something that is never their fault. I've sold a ton of stuff on eBay as well as Amazon and I always use the UPS store, mostly because I'm lazy and I don't keep packaging supplies around. I'd much rather deal with these guys than go to FedEx Kinkos (even more expensive) or the Post Office (shudder). The UPS store is a place you can ship with UPS fairly painlessly, for a price. I've been renting a box here for a long while now and the prices were great. This is one of the best UPS stores in the area, I've rented from two others. I don't plan on going elsewhere. They always have tape, boxes and various other things I would need. I recommend this place! read more

I just left the Bucktown/Wicker Park UPS Store and feel compelled to share a review. I needed to print wedding materials (menus, programs, table numbers) in large quantities. Tony didn't hesitate to help me through each new print job, and was very easy to work with. He was in charge of the printer, and all I had to do was feed paper. I am so glad I used this location for printing; if you are wedding planning and don't want to pay for specialty printing services, do not hesitate to print with this locations Mac users, heads up; make sure to send your file to yourself in an email, in order to forward it to their store email when you arrive. My favorite UPS Store! Even though I usually only drop-off prepaid packages to be mailed out, the employees are always friendly and always offer to give me a tracking receipt. If I ever have to mail something out and am unable to prepay at home, I bring it here because they're faster and more courteous than the employees at USPS. Love this store! read more

This UPS Store was okay. An employee answered the phone when I called and politely and professionally provided the information requested. Their parking lot was easily accessible in front. It was a little busy when I arrived. The employees graciously allowed a customer to use their restroom. When it was my turn, they taped my box closed for me and gave me a permanent marker to write on the outside of it. They checked my package in for one of their post office box patrons so that I did not have to pay for shipping. read more

I am a regular visitor to the UPS store. The services available and customer service are much better (with shorter lines) than their competition in the area. They have free packaging tape and will accept packages to be sent via UPS or USPS. I go out of my way to come to this UPS! read more

This store is wonderful. All of the workers are always friendly and happy to help. The parking here just sucks. It's scary. Not sure what the resolution is but it probably hinders business. Just an update on my earlier review: Got a message from the store owner regarding my package. He apologized and said my package was there, they just overlooked it. My package is on its way back to Amazon. I get it, they get a lot of packages but the guy didn't even look for mine just said it wasn't there which was really uncool. I do appreciate the apology because it shows the store owner cares about his customers, only fair to give them another shot. Hopefully next time will go better and I can give them 5 stars. read more

She is friendly, positive, and puts full energy into her job as do most of the employees here. The place is alive! Guess who waited until the last minute to mail out Christmas gifts (yup, this girl). Given that I have LOATHED every trip ever made to any USPS (that's the united states postal service) no matter what time of year, time of day, or day of the week I refuse to mail my boxes there. So, I went to the UPS store. Yes there was a line. Yes it moved pretty slow. However, it was based on the customers not the employees, who by the way were SUPER NICE!!! Thank you super nice employees at the UPS store for making it a smooth transaction and not acting like I'm disrupting your day by wanting to mail a package. Tom the owner of the UPS store 3173 runs a terrific store. Not all UPS stores are created equal so if you live in Bucktown/Wicker Park -- even Lincoln Park you should come to this store. Unlike other UPS stores they have abundant tape for all your needs that is free and not only that the staff quite often will add extra tape to your package to make sure it is ready for safe shipping. And just today I had realized that I had been charged $15.00 for extra handling for a piece of luggage I sent yesterday with no box. And while I had agreed to the charges yesterday, Tom was kind enough to credit it back to me when I explained that I would have put it in a box if I had known. He did not need to do that - it was my fault -- but I greatly appreciate the gesture and will give THIS STORE all my UPS business going forward read more

Wow. I had a truly wonderful experience here today. I manage Logan Bar and Grill in Chicago and this UPS has forever been friendly and helpful to us. Today(5/10), after a long day of completing several tasks, I needed to get some copies made for a concert we are having, and realized UPS was closed in 20 minutes. When I got there, they were ready to help me with a happy and helpful attitude(even after a long day for the staff I'm sure). They got me what I needed, and did not rush me out. If you use this buisness...BEWARE! The strip mall this store is in has a man hidden in a car on Milwaukee Ave who is just waiting to boot you. I parked in the lot to go to the UPS Store. Before entering I walked across the street to read a sign, walked back,and as I was entering the UPS Store was approched by a man to tell me he had booted my car. I had been gone less than 1 minute! The company Concord Plaza uses for the booting service has a number that just rings busy...so there is no recourse. So while I have no complaints about the actual store, I would not patronize this location again. read more

This place is pretty hilarious. I walked in with a giant Zappos box and the guy behind the counter, who was blaring some jam band music proclaimed "WHOAAA THAT'S A BIG ZAPPOS BOX!!" It was pretty funny. Anyway, it's like that here. Kind of a Colorado ski shop vibe. I had some forms to print off a zip drive. First, I went to Kinko's. They were charging $0.13/page. That seemed like too much. I decided to go to the UPS Store, like I have done in the past to print documents. There was a new automated process in this store, where a customer swipes a payment card and to operate a computer to print their documents. I was confused about the message appearing on the screen. There was a minimum amount required for the printing services. I asked a person working there for help, he said to click on the menu to get started and it would work. The message on the screen stated that black and white copies were priced at $0.10/page. After I printed out 13 pages, the receipt charged my credit card $3.21 for this job. The actual price of this job was $0.25/per copy, not $0.10/page. Unknown to me, this UPS Store charged an additional fee to "rent" their computer to print these pages. After vehemently complaining to the people working in this store, I get this stupid look from people inside that store and was told there is a rental fee to use their computer to print out the documents. This was not explained to me before I started this process by the people working there after I had asked for help. There was a little 3" x 3" placard on the side of the work station that displayed this information in 1/2" print. I doubt that many people would ever notice this tiny little sign or are aware of this. I have come to this store in the past and this unlike any experience I had ever had there. I can't tell you how pissed off I am right now. I really wish that I wound have ripped off the device that sweeps your credit card from the work station and thrown it at the employees working there to display my anger. There is nothing is worse than being ripped off by a group of stupid, lazy, dishonest people. What a horrible way to treat a customer and a total rip off. I urge people to go to one of their competitors and avoid this place, if possible. read more

I shipped a computer to my daughter from MA and did not want it left in the hallway of her building for obvious reasons. The UPS Store is very close to her so we shipped it there and for $5 she was able to pick it up when it got there. They called her when it arrived - a BARGAIN if you ask me! i've only been here once, but i can tell that this is a good location only because the guys working there are very nice and helpful. i called first, as i wanted to open up a mailboxes, etc. mailbox. i wanted to get pricing and all information before i walked in. the dude i talked to over the phone was super SUPER helpful and very, very detailed - gave me all the info i needed. i called back again (as you need 2 forms of ID) and asked what that actually meant - again, very helpful (and in case you're wondering, you can bring your insurance card, if you'd like). that saved me from going back home and grabbing my passport. i came in to open the box, and all the guys working were helping everyone in every which way possible. if they weren't helping anyone, they were empty the trash and tidying up. it was quick, painless, helpful - i had a very good experience. thanks guys! read more

I went to the post office on California today and walked right back out when I saw the line and knew it would be a tough 20 mins and $13. Drove over here and for $17 and a lot of nice people willing to help I sent my eBay package and was in an out in 5 mins. Basically never going to the post office again to save $5 for the hassle. I have had a mailbox there for the past 8 months and the cost is around $1 a day for them to put my mail into a small box. I have a check that I have been waiting for and today they informed that they are to busy to sort the mail. I asked them well I am a customer that pays for a service? I have a mailbox here because it was convenient when I needed it. I still have it even though I am back living in the city because I am confident I will receive my mail, unlike where I live. Everyone who works here is really awesome. They are very kind and they are always happy to help you. This seems a rare thing these days so I always take the extra trip to mail things from here because I know the experience will be easy and pleasurable and my packages and mail will be packed well and get where they need to go. I haven't written a Yelp review in a long time, but my experience at this UPS brought me out of hibernation. I don't think I have had such amazing customer service in Chicago; it felt like I was in a small town. I was there with a friend who was trying to figure out how to ship a large painting. Long story short, the store owner actually picking up the painting from my house and designed a custom package to save my friend $200. Who does that? Tom. Tom the owner of UPS does.
