Absolutely unacceptable experience at the Glen Ellyn UPS Store. I arrived at 6:58 PM -- two minutes before closing -- with several packages to ship. I set the first box on the counter and told the two employees (who were just standing there chatting) that I had two more heavy boxes right outside the door. I walked out to grab them, and when I turned around, the two men had locked the door behind me -- at exactly 7:00 PM -- while I was still loading my other boxes. When I demanded my receipt for the one that was still inside, they reluctantly opened the door just to hand me my receipt (which clearly shows the receipt was printed at 7:00). I asked if they could take the last two boxes, and they flat-out said "No, we're not getting paid after 7:00," and when I said "surely your not going to be so lazy - that you don't work until 7:01, what would the manager or owner think???? Their response "We don't care what the manager thinks, we aren't getting paid." Then the other employee said "I don't give a f***!" As a mom of three and a local business owner who ships through this location constantly, I was shocked by how rude and dismissive they were. Zero customer service, zero pride in their work, and zero respect for the people who keep their store in business. This is how they treat people in the neighborhood and women business owners who supported their business! Tr If this is the attitude they allow from their staff, I strongly recommend avoiding this UPS Store. Go to another location where your time and business are actually appreciated. read more

I buy and sell a lot of merchandise. The price I was quoted by UPS Store 0398 seemed fair for sturdy, safe packing. What I received was my 2 moderately heavy metal pieces, each wrapped in a single piece of thin padding / bubble, with plenty of room to move around inside of a thin-walled box made of less than 1/16" cardboard. It's frankly a miracle that the items didn't get banged up and dented, or even come through the wall of the box. Will not use again. read more

This UPS Store location has been nothing but a positive experience the several times I've visited. Granted, I've only gone in to drop off Amazon returns but they have gotten me in and out very quickly. In addition to that, the man working the counter was friendly and even made small chit chat with me while he scanned the item. For dropping off an Amazon return you absolutely cannot beat this place. I get it's near end of the day but all I had to do was drop off a few things. The lady came to the door and told me they are closed. I asked for an exception but she refused. My son carried an oversized box into the store for me. He placed it down while I waited in line. When it was our turn, the guy working said, you need to take the box to the back pointing out that he had to take care of the guy BEHIND me! What type of customer service is that?!! I quietly went and got a dolly and my son put it on the dolly and took it to the back. When he put it down, he said no you need to take it farther back. I've never experienced such rude service. I started renting a mailbox at this UPS Store about 20 years ago. For the first 10 years Margie was the owner. She and her staff were great people. They treated me just like family. About 10 years ago she sold her business to the current owner, Mr. Patel. He and his staff are also great people. They also treat me just like family. Their prices are reasonable, service is great. They are always friendly and helpful. In 20 plus years of renting a mailbox at this UPS Store and using this store for other shipping needs, I have never had any problems or bad experiences. read more

2nd time at this location. This time I was in and out very fast as the young man behind the counter knew his job and was quick. Both times I've been there the store has been really clean. Since it's in a strip mall there is always parking. Tip would be look both ways in the parking lot as some tend to drive pretty fast even though cars are backing up. Last time I use this UPS store after consistently slow service and today - refusal to take an Amazon return just because the top of the box was not taped shut. In the time he spent telling me he was too busy to put a piece of tape on the box, while other customers waited, he could have closed the box and finished the return. I came in without boxes or anything to package my goods that I needed to ship and they allowed me to bring in a total of about x50 tubes at 3ft lengths with a 1" diameter and offered to package everything for me. They did however make a mistake at the end of the day with the shipping address which caused there to be an issue in the system and cost me an extra 15minutes for them to fix it. I would still go back, seems that the Indian looking man working there reads the reviews and does well otherwise. Will revise review if my package doesn't make it to the right address. read more

Also I had a small box ( the size you'd have for a pair of sunglasses ) and the end of the box required a small amount of tape to seal it. I return amazon items all the time through various UPS locations. This was the only store that made it a major hassle - and seemed like they wanted no part of it. Dude was like we can't take that - it's open. Only when I was asking if he was freaking kidding me that the old guy clarified they just need to be resealed. That's when I realized this was all them wanting me to buy a cheap roll of tape from them so I could slap 3 pieces in my package and hand it over. Congrats - you win and get my $4.50 for a role of tape - along with a bad review and a customer who will tell all to avoid you if they can. I've been using this store for nearly 3 years and I'll be ending it when my mailbox comes up for expiration in March. The previous owner sold the store in September 2010 and the new ownership isn't the same. I've had important mail never get delivered and then they keep on sticking cd cases into my mailbox which I can never pull out from my side due to the configuration of the box. The problem is that I can't pull out my other mail if I come here after hours. Overall, the other services are pretty standard. I went to this store on a Sunday because it was one of the only locations open in the area. Next time I'll drive farther away. I brought a package to return, and didn't seal the box at home because I wasn't sure if any labels needed to go inside. The gentleman at the counter said that I'd need to buy a $5 roll of tape or he couldn't accept the package. I was shocked to see all of the negative review on this UPS store - I go here at least once a month for business and personal shipping. The owner is always nice and Jace who works there is always smiling and friendly as well. I have personally seen them help customers track packages and never seemed rude or put out by helping them. I go out of my way TO go to this location because of the customer service. I cannot speak to the charge for tape at The UPS Store, because I typically tape up my boxes before I ship them. HOWEVER, if you go to the Post Office, who also has tape there for their use, they make you pay for a whole roll of packing tape. read more

Rude! I came in with a box and prepaid label to return my school books. I usually go to my local UPS store but this was the closest one to me at the moment. The guy offered me tape, he taped the box and as I was leaving he said it was $1 for the tape! I told him I didn't have any and he ripped off the tape and told me to come back when I did. The man at the store was rude and abusive when I asked about signing a receipt which he said I did not need to read but when I asked why I need to sign, he said it would act as my receipt. Upsellers! I came in to ship something with a premade label, but needed to buy a box and tape to ship it. The girl working there measured it and said I needed to buy the 20x20x20 inch box. I thought 'no way' that's way too big. So I said, are you sure, that sounds way too big. Then the older lady there said maybe the 18x18x18 would be ok. That sounded too big still, so I asked if I could measure the item myself. It turns out the 16x16x16 was fine, so I said that's what I wanted. Then the girl said 'wouldn't it be better to have the bigger box so I could put more padding in it?". Um, better for you because you're selling it! They essentially tried to rip me off. The tape I bought from them was 100% junk that kept ripping, but the guy there was nice enough to use his own tape to help me ship it. They shouldn't even sell that no name tape, it's seriously defective. Even though they were nice enough to help me once I bought the box and tape, the fact that they bs'ed what size box I needed because they wanted to rip me off is so unacceptable they can't get anything but a 1 star review from me. read more

While it's close to my house, I much rather go to FedEx or another independent shipping store so that I don't have to deal with the horrendous customer service at this place. I was trying to mail a book and needed a box. The lady behind the counter tried to make me buy a larger box when I could clearly tell it would fit in a smaller one (I'm not dumb lady). After packing the box I had to BUY TAPE. Ridiculous when there is hundreds of feet of tape behind the counter and I've paid for a box. Then after taping the box, they were in the back ignoring my "hello I'm ready" calls and I had to wait five minutes to get their attention while they were gabbing away. The place smells and they are not friendly. The man behind the counter just sits there while the woman does everything. How about working too so your customers don't have to wait so long? Avoid. This local Glen Ellyn based UPS store is wonderful! The people at this store have always been helpful to me. I have been using it for multiple years. One of the services they have is shredding of sensitive documents. This store charges only ~$.69/per pound. That is a bargain compared to some other places I have priced out. (of course I could shred those papers myself, but I have a ton and it would take forever!!) The free days for shredding that some places offer, like banks, are only available one day out of the year. I am not available that one particular day of the event. This service offered by this UPS store works great for me! read more

Just brought a box here to ship back to Zappos and when I walked in and said "hello," the young woman behind the counter said nothing. I told her I had a prepaid shipping tag. An older man came out from the back and immediately scolded me that they do not take open packages. I had a pair of shoes to return and didn't have any packing tape at home so the box was unsealed. I've never had a problem bringing a box into any UPS store like this before. I told him I've never had a problem with this before and he pointed to a printed out sign on the wall stating they don't take open packages. Perhaps a little customer service would have gone a long way here and the guy could have sealed the package. It's not the big of a deal. Not everyone has packing tape laying around their house. So as I'm holding the box lid closed, the man starts to swat my hand away. I had no idea what he was doing but he kept doing it without saying anything. I come to find they were weighing the box. Again, TERRIBLE customer service that could have been resolved by simple communication. This location lost my business. The man was incredibly disrespectful and the woman never said one word to me the entire time. I'll drive further away to a location that knows how to treat customers. read more
