I received a phone call from a very dear friend who accompanied me to the South Riding store on February 23rd, she brought to my attention two reviews recently written, however my friend said the one review written by (VS) was almost identical with the horrific experience both of us went through with the same employee Alexis. To my disbelief my friend and I always considered this UPS Store outstanding until now, not understanding why they would employ a person that has absolutely zero amount of scruples and is nothing but a racist, I am positive that this was not the first time nor will this be the last, I want everyone to read this and be aware that this girl still works at the South Riding store because I checked today before I wrote this review. Keep in mind that I am a man of color that is writing this review and this situation was not even directed to me. As an African American, the audacity in the manner she spoke to a woman that was about 70 years old, (Indian decent) I could not just stand there and mind my business, in fact this girl Alexis turned to me announcing that what she said was not directed to me, she obviously thought since I was black like she is and held up her fist trying to say "Black Power", I looked at my friend and asked her very clearly that did I read this correctly, she most certainly agreed and said to me lets get out of here. I looked at Alexis and told her that she should be ashamed of herself to speak to anyone in the manner that she did, Alexis looks at me and takes her finger and points to the top of her hand reminding me that she is black. This girl doesn't care one bit, this uneducated angry, malicious person should not be representing The UPS Store, and what is more pathetic is the response written by the owner, talking about the land, the Asians, please explain to me what that has to do with the problem at hand, explain what you meant "you talked with her", and.......?, you said nothing that addressed the severity of this topic, you have got to be kidding if you think you solved this problem. What did you mean you spoke to the manager, I could not decide at that moment who I felt worse for, myself, the woman from India or the manager. The manager asked Alexis 3 times to step away from the front and go to the back and wait for her, this girl turned around and looked right at her and purposely ignored the absolute directive. There were several customers in the store, we all heard the way this woman was spoken to, the woman from India grabbed her stuff and walked out, (I apologize for addressing her as the woman from India, I do not remember her name)as 5 other customers followed. The manager advised Alexis to get out of the store and not to return, she advised Alexis that her stuff and last check will be forwarded, Alexis turned to another employee and said "don't worry "Steve got my back", I gathered this "Steve" is the same Steve Kellam as the owner. I should have done my part, so tomorrow I will be contacting the Corporate Office located in San Diego and discuss this at great length, I hope others see these reviews they could contact corporate at (858) 455-8800, if you do not feel comfortable calling write them to this address: The UPS Store Headquarters, 6060 Cornerstone Ct W, San Diego CA 92121. As a man of color I do not want anyone thinking that Alexis represents the African American population especially the wonderful people that live in South Riding. The bottom line is I am glad that this problem is coming to the surface. I can only speak for my circle of friends and family that will no longer be customers of the UPS Store in South Riding, VA. I have asked this question over and over, how is it that the manager not only kept calm but apologized to the customers that were present during what was my last visit ever to this location. I have been coming to this UPS Store for 5 years, I live in South Riding. I am from Bangladesh and have been in this country for 30 years. I am an Executive for Microsoft and normally I would not waste my time, however the importance of all the customers that constantly keep this UPS Store alive are the descendants from India and they need to be aware of the intense racism coming out from the South Riding UPS Store. My wife has been very ill and I needed to return several Amazon items, I entered the store roughly about 2:00, I immediately was made to feel unwelcomed and spoken to with such defiance from this African American woman. She made it clear and showed to be immediately annoyed, her voice went higher as if I did not understand the English language as she spoke to me. It was very clear that my skin color was not acceptable as she mumbled under her breath these F.....g Indians". I said excuse me mam, she immediately turned around and said "I was not talking to you so mind your business, I told you to move over and find your QR Codes". I said to her excuse me mam how would you like to be addressed?, she turned to me and said "I told you not to speak, when you get it together I will then help you" A woman ran over and immediately told this African American person she called "Alexis", she asked her to step aside and she immediately introduced herself as Susan and apologized profusely. It was obvious that she did not know what to say, but she did not try to convince me that Alexis behavior was out of sorts, nor did she atone for any of a racist remarks, she made it very clear that this employee will be spoken to and the necessary steps will be taken. Susan quickly finished up with my return transactions and had difficulty finding the right words to say, but what I did appreciate and respected Susan did not make excuses for what was an abdominal way to be treated. I advised Susan that I will be contacting the corporate office tomorrow, she immediately asked if the owner Steve Kellam could reach out, to tell you the truth I rather speak to people that can make a difference to ensure that no other customer should be made to feel as bad as Alexis made me feel, no one will convince me that this woman is not a racist, angry woman who should not be working with people. I will be taking the necessary steps ensuring that this problem will be dealt with at its highest level, in addition making sure that people of all races should know when in that store there is a very good chance that they will have to deal with her, at least they will know what to expect. Myself and my wife Nalliia happen to live in the same development as the Kellam's, we know them for over 10 years, however we have been struggling with a situation that we both agreed it was best not to come forward hoping that Mr. Kellam would be on top of a very sensitive subject concerning the same employee that Mr. Singh reviewed. We commend Mr. Singh to bring the truth to the table and finally speak the truth regarding Alexis and her inability to be kind. There is no question that she is full of rage and her racism should be written on her shirt, not say the UPS Store. I wish I could share one good experience but if you are not African American then make sure that you do not get on her line. This is very sad because we know Steve and we have listened to him sharing many many funny stories about his painting days and he will tell you his favorite task to do at the stores is stay upfront and take care of the customers, but he knows he talks to much. This whole situation is very disheartening we never looked at Steve as being a racist let alone hiring one, but believe me months have passed I would say at least since last February the change in that store is very visible, being treated with such a lack of respect from this one employee Alexis. This has continued on and on and when Susan is not in or upfront Alexis has no problem in making comments, "we smell", "get off the line until we are ready", "I told you one piece of tape and that's it", we listened to her comments made to others, hideous realizing we should have reached out a long time ago, but we decided speaking to Susan several times she would have made sure that this behavior was stopped immediately. Unfortunately the anger has gotten worse and her comments more abrasive, the question we need to ask, why would Steve Kellam put up with this? A group of us have now decided to never again walk into the South Riding store, we will travel to another UPS Store. We take turns now and each week one of us takes all of the groups returns and drives over to Hal's store by Wegmans where we all get treated with respect. The last thing we want is a confrontation, but we want others knowing that Steve Kellam must be ok with racism since Alexis is still employed at the South Riding store. The next time I see Steve I will speak face to face. My genuine thanks goes out to Mr. Singh for having the courage to share what I am sure was a difficult experience to come forward. I will do my part and contact the corporate offices of The UPS Stores on Monday. I should have taken the time months back to share this and not enough people share the good and this is really important. I cant speak for anyone else but I am scared to death about catching this Covid 19 virus so anywhere I need to go I make sure that I can have zero contact, simple nothing more expected until I met Susan the manager at the South Riding UPS store, not only does she have a complete understanding about this virus, she goes out of her way to make sure that my needs are met with zero contact. She has this great Curbside drop off that accepts closed, labeled packages with no receipt required you just pull up right in front of the store, call them and wala someone comes out always wearing a mask and that's it you are done. Well I needed a bit more than just dropping off a package, I am shipping packages and unfortunately the UPS store in Broadlands refused to help me so I went to South Riding. I called and spoke to Brittany and explained in great detail what I needed and she placed me on hold to speak to her manager, after holding for a moment Suan came on the line and said I am all yours explain to me exactly what I needed. We talked about 15 minutes and Susan made sure that my requests were taken care of. She was kind and so understanding, she really cares about the customers. Susan made sure the other employees were well aware, so going forward its been smooth sailing. I am so grateful to all the employees and lucky to know that Susan runs a top notch store and she has a customer for life, thanks Susan and your team. read more

Dropped my package on Dec 15 with my daughters' Christmas presents in it. That was the last anyone saw of it. The ONLY event on the tracking number was "Shipping Label Printed". It never made it on the truck. Therefore, UPS will not take responsibility and a UPS Store has nothing to do with UPS, they are just a franchise. A franchise, in this case, run by very sketchy characters. The only logical explanation is that someone in the store decided they liked what I had bought my daughters for Christmas and decided to take home an early gift from Santa (me). The final straw was UPS telling me to call the police. Really? Throughout this process several employees at the UPS Store took my name and number promising to have their manager call me back. Never happened. Justine, Steve, Susan, etc. were zero help. Zero. Lesson learned: NEVER EVER use a UPS Store. Period. Only deal with UPS directly, if at all. read more

Have been using this store services for over a year. Since the new ownership it has been always a very pleasant experience. My 3 yo loves going to "post office" because she is always welcomed and entertained by the staff, her Mommy never stays there too long for her to get bored as the staff, each and everyone of them, is knowledgeable, friendly and very efficient. I have always been offered the lowest rate possible and been helped with packing if needed. Not long ago when we were mailing some boxes there were several "interns" helping in the store. It turned out these were special need kids learning about UPS service, helping around and meeting the customers. It was so nice to see how much the store is involved and what they are doing for the community! read more

I've got to say, the guys here at this UPS Store really blew me away. Everyone was super eager to greet us and help us out. Chandrika and Susan especially were absolute stars - these ladies know the meaning of customer service. They all patiently worked with us to ship some pretty pricey computer gear, and had superb patience. They ensured my family and I got a great deal and packed everything like it was made of glass. I have rarely met a more dedicated crew. This place is seriously a cut above any local shipping spot I've tried. They consistently give excellent service including beyond the usual services they provide. To cite one example, they helped me navigate the paperwork for shipping a package to Chile during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Chilean post office without advanced notice began refusing all foreign packages and my package was returned. They gave me a prompt refund even though they had no responsibility for the return. In several other situations, they went beyond the usual services to help me. I give them high marks for their conscientiousness, competence, and motivation to give great service. read more

I have had my business mailing address at the South Riding UPS store for several years and I have always received the best of treatments and the best of service. It does not get any better. It didn't matter whom I dealt with, they have always been very courteous and nice. Above all Lorraine has always gone above and beyond the services they offer and helped me every time I was late picking up the mail or dropping off a package. Every single employee that works in this UPS Store are nothing short of showing complete professionalism to every customer at all times. Each person receives very individual attention even if you are just dropping off a package, you are greeted as you enter and told to have a great day on your way out, everything else in-between is focused on the reason that brought you in. I went to this location on 19Jun and the manager that was there would not allow me to ship a shoebox full of recycling materials which I had shipped from shoeboxes before, at this same location. There's clearly a lack of consistency with different employees enforcing policy. I've shipped several boxes and shoeboxes of recycled materials to the same location with no issues before. I totally agree with the previous reviewer who wished to give a zero star. I can't believe UPS gives franchise to unethical people. They mark up about 50% of what UPS corporate store would charge for shipping. I can't believe people fall into this trap. And their service sucks top to bottom. read more
