On April 30th, I had an appointment at the UPS Store located at 1100 New Jersey Ave., S.E., WDC for a passport photo only to be informed by (2) young ladies and I use the term (ladies) very loosely; their machine was not working. I inquired as to why I was not informed since I had a scheduled appointment. I was informed, they aren't notified when an appointment was made. I didn't understand because the statement didn't make sense, I told them, This is a system that is set up on their direct website. I needed a replacement passport photo to replace a photo taken their that was rejected due to the error of the photographer. All this lady said was the machine was broken and had no ETA as to when it would be repaired. These ladies were nasty in tone and ignorant in display. If you don't like your job, find something else to do, but customer service is clearly out of their purview. I phoned a complaint and was told I would receive a call from the manager/proprietor within 2-days. I received a third party call from a UPS operator today reading from a letter from said store apologizing and advising me the machine continues to be non-functioning. UPS has always been a hot mess in my experience. This location really needs to upgrade it's staff. They are clearly disorganized based on previous visits and I guess just anyone can get a job. I felt racially discriminated against. The UPS employee blatantly served three white people before serving me, a person of color. The UPS employee was also a person of color, but sadly treated me obviously differently than the three white people. Perhaps I was the wrong shade of color. I lost TIME when I was in a hurry WAITING for service. I NEVER bother to write reviews, but this incident bothered me so much that hours later, I felt compelled to write this review. I've lived in Navy for almost 5 years and been to the store multiple times for printing and shipping. I frequently use it for printing services for work because it's higher volume color printing than cant be done on a home printer. The services used to be great and fast, but more recently the printer seems to be having issues and I've spent tons of time waiting for things to print, paying for printing that I don't have to abandon because I'm going to be late for my next meeting. The staff is nice but they often don't even refund me or offer me discounts for my time wasted or lack of service provided. I'm really disappointed in the store and think they could significantly improve of operations. I wouldn't recommend going here if you have printing needs beyond single page. read more

Stopping in for my annual haul and happy to know the service is still outstanding. I once again had several things that needed to be mailed to different folks with nothing packaged or prepared. Von packaged everything up (even had to play a bit a Tetris to get one package's contents to fit into a smaller box), got the recipient's addresses, rang me up all at once at the end and I was on my way. There were about 3 people before me when I came In, and the wait was not long at all. Appreciated the efficiency and swiftness to get people in and out. The 2 young women who were managing the store in the afternoon of 3.4.25 were personable, kind, patient and efficient so that they created created a warm neighborhood feel- they even had a biscuit for a customer who walked in with a dog! The staff at the UPS Store on New Jersey Avenue SE are always so pleasant and respectful--it's honestly a breath of fresh air. Going there is a pleasure compared to the post office, where it often feels like you're bothering people. I'll happily pay the extra to avoid the attitude at the post office. The owner is a young Black man I've met a few times, and he's super polite, and it's clear his team likes working for him. Great service every time--I can't recommend this location enough! read more

Let me tell y'all about my day... After a morning of running around like a chicken with my head cut off I had to go to the post office. Not only did i have to drive around the block to find parking but I didn't even have the addresses all together when I walked in - ya girl was not in the mood. Luckily at the front (as an older gentleman was arguing about getting cookies in the mail from a cookie company during Covid-19 and planning on taking the cookies to law enforcement for inspection - which that's for another day and he did have great points!) Dyonna (Dyana - I'm not sure how to spell it) but she made the day so much better! Not only did she give me some sheets of paper to write the addresses, she was patient and so helpful. I'm so glad I was able to get in and out, got great help and was able to carry on my day with a calm smile! read more

My five stars is specifically for Mo who appeared to be the only person working, with a line of 7+ customers. I watched him as he multitasked three different requests, while still remaining polite, professional and calm under pressure. I'm giving this a 3-star review because I don't know how independently owned UPS stores set prices. UPS online says franchisees may charge additional fees. All I can say is the prices to mail stuff out of this store are absurdly prohibitive and as someone who has used different mail stores before, they may be the highest I've ever come across. When you look into other services, such as scanning, it doesn't get better and I don't think they can blame UPS for that. Buyer beware. I've twice tried to mail something speedily. The first time, the price quoted was $150 for an overnight to Puerto Rico because they consider it international. Puerto Rico is *not* International, nor does the Postal Service consider it international. But UPS does. (Again, can't speak to how much of a markup, if any, this store does.) The same parcel, sent overnight by USPS, was less than half that. Tried again another time with an envelope. UPS 2-day air was over twice as expensive as USPS overnight. The staff did not put any effort into offering me cheaper alternatives. Oh, in case you're interested in scanning, it's 99 cents a page. So basically a dollar to run a page through a scanner. That's absurd. I give the place an extra star because the staff has always been very nice and they take decent COVID precautions. But the pricing on mailing things is sky high and it seems their other services are no better. Unless you're returning a package, I see no reason to mail something through a UPS store rather than a post office, where it's cheaper and even faster. And if you can use a scanning app on your phone, it may be the way to go, even if it takes a little longer. read more

[Coronavirus review] This was a handy UPS location near the Metro and the water that I ended up with because it was convenient. It's a perfectly fine store; mostly I wanted to update on what they're doing during the coronavirus update: Amazon has instituted a new returns system where you can just walk in with your item and no packaging, hand it to them, scan a code on your phone, and they will pack and ship it for you-no charge! This reduces the risks for everyone involved and is also incredibly convenient and encourages stay-at-home shopping. Hopefully this new approach to returns will catch on in the long term, but for now, take advantage of it! read more

This is one of my favorite UPS stores - and mail/package handling stores - in the DMV - HANDS DOWN! They are quick, friendly and are reasonably priced (all UPS Store prices for services and things outside of mail/package/ aren't the same). I found out about this UPS Store when I used to live on the next block, but even now that I've moved to to another part of DC, I still make my way over to this location. Plus it's minority owned which is just one more reason to support. Definitely check them out! read more

I had a mailbox at another location that was poorly run and eventually shut down. I joined the navy yard location in the aftermath of that and the service is night and day. They email every time a package is received have fantastic operating hours and I have been pleased with the service in every way. read more

They are so so helpful here. The owner really cares about his customers. I live a block away and always come here to print stuff and mail items. Last time I waited for a while for the two copies that I needed and the cashier said there would be no charge due to the wait. So kind and unnecessary! The owner, Kali Shelton, was extremely rude and incompetent in two instances. First, on June 17 I came into the store to see if packages that should have been delivered to the CVS next door were instead at the UPS store. UPS has an access point service that according to CVS staff often mistakenly drops off packages meant for CVS at the UPS store. I politely asked if he could check by my name. Before he goes to check the back he asks if the packages were supposed to be sent here. I explain that the packages should have been sent to CVS but they were not at CVS and I was directed to check here. He proclaims that packages sent to CVS "never" come to his store. He then asks for my tracking number. I pull up my tracking number but he, during this pandemic, invaded my personal space and tries to touch my phone screen, telling me that I am not pulling up my tracking number correctly. I ask him to step back and confirm that indeed this is the tracking number. He argues with me, calls me rude, and tells me to leave his store. When I remind him that holding someone's mail hostage is grounds for legal review, he changed his tone. My neighbor who accompanied me chimes in that she is also having the same issue, that a package mean for CVS is not there and she was told to check at the UPS store. He runs her name and, indeed, her package, labeled for the CVS, is in his back room. He then asks me to come check the back with him, which feels threatening, and instead of apologizing, says, "I think we got off on the wrong foot." Sir, as a business owner and manager, it is your job to set the tone with customers. I wish this was the only interaction I had to have with this store and owner but unfortunately it was not. My mother needed a form notarized for a state request. This same owner is also the notary public. He notarized the form incorrectly, causing a significant delay in the processing of an expensive order. Today, when we returned to have it fixed, he did not apologize and instead made excuses such as, "Well it's fine with other states." It is also worth noting that his approach with my mother, who is an Asian woman, was very different than it was with me, a Black and Asian woman who presents as Black. Research shows that time and time again, Black people are treated more hostilely by cops, doctors, and business owners regardless of the race of the service provider. These instances were sadly confirmation of this data. Needless to say, I will never come here again by choice and I hope this owner cleans up his act. read more

The customer service is extremely professional and fast paced! I'm always addressed by my last name which it was asked if it was okay when I started to frequent this location even more. I feel as if the workers including the business owner focus more on pleasing 'us' the customer by going above and beyond. The last time I've been to the Navy Yards location I overheard the owner making personal arrangements to make a hefty donation to the local community center of education. Are you really into reading good reviews about a shipping, printing, get-your-life-together-store? Yes? Ok. So I'm that person. The person who has a printer that eats ink. No matter how much I buy, I'm always out. So I was panicked when a client needed me to show up at 9 am with duplicate print jobs yesterday. I had 45 mins. I called this store at 8:00. The owner answered the phone (yep, the owner) and was way too calm about the number of items, print specifics, and time I offered for this job. He calmly clarified what I needed, told me to email the docs, then said don't worry about; arrive by 8:45. What do you mean don't don't worry about it? Naturally, I ignored him. I sent the email then called 10 mins later to make sure he got the email and understood what I wanted. He said he did and they should be done shortly with my order. Again, I ignored him. I rushed to get ready, complained that there was no way my order would be ready AND correct. My friend agreed via telephone. Then I got a call. It was the UPS store. SEE!!!! I knew it! They were calling to say they messed up my order or it wouldn't be ready in time. But nope. I'd omitted to tell them if the docs should be paper clipped or stapled. What? That's all? And it was a MY omission?! I still couldn't believe them. I needed to get to this store and see what was going on. I arrive. I'm greeted and I share I'm picking up a print job. The owner says "Are you ____?" I say I am and ask how much longer it will be for the order. Turns out there is no wait and my order was accurate. Actually, there was a wait...when I had to wait on my ride-share after my accurate, expedited order was ready faster than expected. So here's the thing, you're 800 words into a Yelp review on a UPS Store. Yep. You've become that person. Why? I don't know. Don't ask me. I'm the weird person writing it. Stop the madness and give them business and see how they do. Next, I'm going to ship something and be in denial of the amazing customer service of this store until I leave...and maybe update my review so that it can serve as a PhD dissertation. P.S. Literally the best mail/package experience I've ever had. We got a mailbox for packages because they get stolen in our neighborhood. The store associates are super friendly and helpful. They answer email and are responsive. Added bonus I can drop off all my packages, and also buy stamps and mail packages out (ups, dhl, usps). They charged me way too much (first red flag), the associate took a phone call in the middle of our transaction (second red flag), and best of all they ended up shipping the packages to the opposite addresses. I absolutely love The UPS Store in Navy Yard. The customer service is always outstanding - friendly, helpful, fast, fair. The first time I went was early in the pandemic when there was a desperate need for face masks. I had a shipment to send to Albany, NY. One of the owners took care of me and could obviously tell how important it was for my package to get to its destination ASAP. Imagine my surprise when I received a call early the next day from that gentlemen personally letting me know the package had been delivered to its destination. Just the other day I called because I had a package that had to go out that evening, but it was going to be tricky to get it there before the nightly pickup. One of the owners told me that she would hold the driver if necessary and I knew she meant it. Ended up not being necessary, but knowing ownership cares that much for their customers blows me away. I went in today (Wednesday) with something that had to get to a Maryland address in White Plains by Friday. I was prepared to hear it would cost a fortune so you could knock me over with a feather when I was told it was $10.94! He said ground would get it there just fine tomorrow - no need to pay an exorbitant amount for air. Pretty sure other places would have been considerably less accommodating and considerably more costly. I can't say enough good things about this UPS Store. So glad they came to the neighborhood! read more

I used to love this place but now it is as horrible as other UPS locations. First they will not give you a box for your amazon returns even if it's says free from amazon. They really enjoy arguing with you and do not care if you complain to Amazon. Second they are overly expensive on pretty much everything. Another experience was with renting a P.O. Box. They tell you it's a real street address so is the post office at 45 L st. Then they tell you that it is worth it because you get 24/7 access... yep that too at the post office. So if you are looking for a post office box, go a few blocks away and get a postal box for under $150 a year rather than there price of almost $600 for the smallest box. Sorry Ups you lost my business. What happened to your customer service and why does every visit have to be an argument now. read more

I can understand these days with business dealing with short staffs but customer service at UPs store at Navy yard has gotten worse. How is difficult to find UPS package delivery after I have a confirmation email & text messages from the store? Mike (manager) fails to find my package, then insists that I provide him the tracking information, which he has on the email UPS store sent out to customer. I have to return multiple times to finally get the package after they initially told me it wasn't there. I do not recommend this store. read more

I was excited to learn that this location just opened. This UPS Store is full service (passport photos, finger printing, shipping, etc). I popped in, was immediately greeted by the friendly staff, dropped off my packages and went about my business. Later that day I had to return to the UPS Store to pack and ship my Christmas gifts and I was please at how thorough and quickly the staff processed my items. This store is a great addition to the residential and business community in the Navy Yard. read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. First time I went the employee smelled of pot, like he just smoked a joint. Second time I sent a box, requested fragile stickers (weren't put on), was never asked about insurance and this is what was received. Spent hours with UPS corporate and this location's manager asked me for next steps in the claim process. My claim was denied both times and the most I would have received was $100. It wasn't worth the incredible amount of time I put into the claim but did so out of principle. Customer service is dead and UPS is awful, in regards to the pot smoke, I could smell it on a young man's breath who took my passport photo.
