Sentara Independence is no longer a hospital with beds for hospitalizations. The former hospital…read morenow has an Emergency Room, Imaging Center, Laboratory Services and Sleep Center. I'm not sure what the area that contained the hospital rooms is currently used for. Sentara Independence is the partner "hospital" with Sentara Virgins Beach General. Patients treated at the Emergency Room who require hospitalization are transported to Beach General as soon as a room is available. The system works well for those of us who live in Bayside. The Emergency Room is far less crowded and easier to navigate through than the larger hospitals. Complete testing and imaging can be done to determine whether the patient requires hospital. I've had many experiences with this hospital's different departments, both for myself, my late husband and uncle and my roommate. All have been excellent. It's sad the Bayside no longer has a full service hospital, losing its beds in favor of building Sentara Princess Anne Hospital on the south side of town. But the current system is working.

I went in for help because its been getting worse. Evan M Rekant, MD could not care less about my issues. I've been in the military for 8 years. I work very long hours and at times unpredictable. I worked all day and then went to Sentara after I got off. I have to be up tomorrow at 04, to be at work at 05. I asked for a "no work note" so I could sleep in. Mr Evan M Rekant, MD begins raising his voice at me in front of his coworkers. Basically chastising me about not going to work. He was being obnoxious, loud and rude to me. I was there a couple of days ago for the same problem. It has to be said that if the problem gets worse, they tell you to come back. Thats what I did and for that I got the worst service I have ever gotten in my life from any medical "professional". He kept asking me about my job and never mentioned my shortness of breath or my stomach pain. I understand the ER is for certain situations but how I was treated to day was abhorrent. Also, military medical is not as good as civilian and I live only 10 min away from this location, so its a lot more convenient. Also, the people are usually very friendly, professional and fast acting. Also, want to point out that military medical at times could take you about a month to get seen for a problem. Even if i go to the ER in portsmouth the wait times are sometimes 2 or more hours to get seen. On top of that they dont usually give "no work notes" because many people lie about things to get out of work. Nevertheless my experience today was very negative. Evan M Rekant definitely has anger issues and I wouldn't trust him as care professional. Other than Evan, this place and people do amazing work.

It occupies the entire second floor of the new Bon Secours Building at Town Center. The location is the south side of Columbus Street west of Independence Boulevard. The back entrance to Wegmans is across the street. The last time I had therapy here PT was the only occupant. Now the first floor contains an Imaging Center on one side and an Urgent Care on the opposite side. It's very obvious to me now why different medical groups have recommended this practice. I've seen both Chris & Paolo's teams. A therapist stays with you the entire time rather than rotating between multiple patients. Care from both teams is excellent. At my initial evaluation I was amazed at the clinical report. They had observed and noted all my issues. All the physical problems I had mentioned were documented. The front desk personnel are friendly. The desk is staffed even when I have a late appointment. Both the waiting room and therapy area are clean and spacious. There are dedicated parking spaces for In Motion patients. I highly recommend this Physical Therapy Practice.

My experience from making the appointment all the way through leaving my appointment the first day was fantastic. The ladies at the front are so kind and helpful. My first visit, Dr. Jay and I talked about the series of procedures I've had on my spine, my pain levels, my lifestyle, etc., and he knew we had to try decompression therapy. Just a simple conversation with him had me feeling better about hopefully finding relief soon! The decompression table itself seems intimidating. But wow, it felt good! The theory behind it and how it works is pretty neat. From there I did the e-stim, which also felt great, but I think the water bed massage is my favorite. We finish off my appointments getting adjusted and stretched, which has always scared me because my back is so fragile, but they are the experts! I have yet to walk away regretting walking in! After years of worsening back pain and silencing out the chiropractic-praises that everyone around me was consistently offering, I decided to reach out to Atlantic Coast. Corinne is amazing and emailed me for several days beforehand to calm my nerves and ensure I was comfortable with how things would go. I scheduled a consultation and exam. Dr. Green is very thorough in his explanations of everything and helped so much in my understanding of chiropractic care and what it could do for me - and more so, how it could do those things. I even ended up getting my first adjustment right after my consultation/exam. Spoiler alert: it was amazing. Dr. Green explained his more gentle techniques and how they wouldn't hurt a bit. I told him about some experiences I had that made me feel chiro was so...aggressive, and he ensured me that this wasn't common practice. After my first adjustment, I was amazed by how subtle yet impactful it really was. After only six or seven adjustments, my clothes fit me better because of my improved posture, my jaw that has literally never been able to open without popping causes me absolutely no issue or pain any longer, and I do not experience consistent back pain the way I did before. Dr. Green made me feel very capable, in control of my body and my care, and pain-free. The best part - in this short amount of time, I have improved so much that Dr. Green recommended I cut back my appointments to once/month or even not at all, if I felt well enough. The courtesy, knowledge, and kindness of the staff, the great conversation and comfort that I find in Dr. Green, and the pain-free reality I'm able to experience because of their help leads me to HIGHLY recommend this office to anyone and everyone. I was referred to this practice by a friend of mine, and I ended up not being very impressed. I saw Dr. O' Connell while I was a student at CNU. He was nice. Surprisingly, I wasn't weirded out that my doctor was a male, even when he was up in my business. He wasn't overly gentle, so I was usually very uncomfortable there. A couple of times I had a pap that came back with abnormal cells. The first time, he wanted to do a colposcopy. I freaked out. You want to do WHAT with my WHAT?! Yeah. So I had the procedure done. Everything came back fine. But I was told that if the sample came back not looking great, I would have to have another procedure in which cells are frozen off with liquid nitrogen. Umm...thanks for the comforting description. Really....it made me 100% confident that I didn't have cancer. So the same comes back fine. I was told to come back for a pap 6 months later. The same thing happens again and he wants to do another colpo. Really? At this point I was frustrated and consulted my doctor back at home. She told me that normally, she'd just test again a couple of weeks later and that would be the last resort at that point. A colpo should be done when results are consistently abnormal. To make a long story short, I felt like I was being told to undergo unnecessary procedures. It felt sort of like fraud, actually. Needless to say, I stopped going there. I wouldn't recommend it. Doctor's visits are never comfortable, but I just felt nervous and shaky at this place. Such a horrible experience.

No one likes going to these kinds of drs especially not a teenager for the first time. Everything about this office was a nightmare, from the check in, the incredibly invasive and unnecessarily awkward questions, the stabbing of a needle into her arms she endured twenty times by an extremely inadequate nurse to get blood and failing miserably. We saw dr hilsinger. All she did was ask questions stare at her face and gave a diagnosis and said she would need to go on birth control pills to control the problem! Well thank goodness an appt popped up at the right drs office. They actually examined her- not just stare at her face. They took blood easily on the first go- they didn't scare the crap out of us and guess what? She doesn't have what the dr hilsinger said she did. I do not recommend this place at all. It was one of the most horrific experiences at a drs office I have ever experienced. Unless you want to be scared for no reason and misdiagnosed for no reason and given the wrong pills for no reason- do not go here!!!

There is a status board in the waiting room that gives the family frequent updates about where their family member is in the surgical process and a nurse is assigned to each person so they come out and.talk to you too. You are able to join patients in the recovery room. The rooms are very clean and tidy. The entire process was smooth and exactly as we were told it would be. The ambulatory surgical center is in the building right next to this one. Depending on when you come, parking can get busy at times, but that's not surprising since it's right next to the hospital. The building is wheelchair accessible. My most recent visit here with my mom was on July 23, 2024. It all started on a rainy afternoon on April 21, 2024. The dog needed to go out, so mom went out with him, but the dog found a hidden spot to sneak over into the neighbor's yard. I had told her to wait until I got some shoes on before going out. Lo and behold, when I came out, she was on the grass after falling on a landscape brick on her wrist. We went to the hospital where things got stabilized and found out the wrist was broken. We were referred to come here for follow up afterwards. We were able to come in the following day after the incident on April 22, 2024. I was surprised it was all the way out at this area since it is a 20-30 minute drive. I found out that's where they have the hand surgery location. The check in process each time is pretty straightforward. The one thing that had to be done each visit was to do another form required by Medicare. Got to love the government red tape. The wait in the waiting area usually wasn't that long on each of the visits. After going to the back on some of the visits, my mom would go to the x-ray room and I would go over to the exam room for that visit. The initial visit was the longest, but that's not a surprise. She would go to the x-ray room first before re-joining me in the exam room. One of the assistants came in and had all the updates done for her meds, etc. After all of that was completed, Dr. McGuigan came in and went over the options. The wrist was definitely broken in two spots. She had a few options. One was to let it heal on its own, but it may not reset where it should. The other option was to have surgery on it. After some thought, she decided to go with the surgery, which would happen two days later on April 24, 2024 at the Sentara Leigh Ambulatory Surgical Center next door to the medical office (that experience was reviewed separately). Overall, the surgery did go well. She would have follow up visits every few weeks to ensure the wrist was properly aligned and no issues. After several weeks being in a soft cast, it would be time for the next period, which was physical therapy. They had a location there, but they had one in Virginia Beach that was closer (this part of the experience will be reviewed separately). This would go on for about 6 weeks. The final follow up was on July 23, 2024. At that point, she was cleared to go back to normal activities with no restrictions and no longer needed to continue therapy. Overall, this was an excellent experience here with Dr. McGuigan from the beginning to the end. Nothing felt rushed and there was a great bedside manner. He was able to answer fully all questions we had throughout the process. I would highly recommend this place if you have any issues with your hand requiring medical attention.
