I've lived at VCW for a little over six months now, and it's been a great experience. There have been a few minor issues (nothing out of the ordinary for apartment living), but everything has been handled quickly and professionally by the maintenance team -- especially Malik, who's always been awesome to work with. The leasing office is incredibly supportive and genuinely cares about residents. You can tell they love what they do and truly want to make your living experience top-tier. They listen to feedback and actually make improvements based on it. Anabel and Reese, who I've worked with the most, have been amazing -- but honestly, everyone in the office is wonderful. VCW really lives up to the "village" name. There's a true sense of community here, with pool parties, sand volleyball leagues, and monthly resident events (the wine nights are a crowd favorite -- please keep them coming, even with the new bar!). I moved to Charlotte not knowing anyone, and this place has quickly become home. read more

Make sure you read this review before moving in. Just like you will read in some of these other reviews the outside looks fine till you start living there. We had a cockroach problem which I noticed the second night we moved in. She was walking out of the utility closet, literally the size of my hand. Then after that I got a beetle infestation. Pest control said that they needed to fix the gaps in the windows and balcony door. Management never approved it. In the hallways you will see cockroaches walking around like they are tenants. Someone told me the parking lot at night becomes the walking dead of roaches. Oh and then there is the fact that you are very close to Eastway (aka, think East L.A.) I would just hear helicopters and squads of cops in the parking lots, even saw coroners van once. Since there are no real effective security gates I also noticed the neighbors who live in the houses nearby come and use the pool, so you are paying for amenities that people off the street are coming to use. Also for the barista you cannot place your order beforehand, you have to be physically present. The wait times typically would be 10 to 15 minutes, at that point I just gave up and left. I will say maintenance and most of the concierge guys are friendly but management was horrible. If you ended up in this flytrap and want to break out of your lease: 1.) It is up to management's discretion whether you will incur a penalty of paying 2 or 3 months rent. We had to keep calling them. If they do agree to release you then the time clock begins immediately so you better start packing asap. 2.) Electricity needs to be canceled on the last day of your lease otherwise you get charged an early termination fee of $100. Yup, good times read more

Absolutely horrible place to live. I wish I could give it lower than a 1 star. Middle of summer and went 10 days with 80+ degree temperatures inside our townhome before being offered a temporary apartment to live in. We received no rent credit for it. 3rd party HVAC company that came, talked to us about how the complex tries not to fix problems even though they give them what needs to be done. After this the maintenance team flooded our first floor for the second time because again instead of fixing the problem they just removed the handle off the nozzle and had a new member of the Maitenance team used it without knowing what it does. We're now going on day 5 of having fans and dehumidifiers in the house making it impossible to sleep or my girlfriend to work from home and no contact from the leasing office. Please save your money and rent else where! read more

After a month of living here, I still cannot get into my building without waiting for someone to come out or waiting up to 15mins for "consierge" to walk over and let me into the building. Leasing staff is extremly dismissive of complaints and I have found my experience so far to be absolutely terrible. For a mortgage payment for rent I expected more. The pros: -The apartments themselves are extremely nice, probably some of the nicest in the city. They offer tall ceilings, huge showers, beautiful tile backsplash in kitchen, oversized bathrooms, sliding glass barn doors, and unique floor plans. -Maintenance staff is responsive and prompt. -Concierge staff is very friendly and efficient. If you have any issues, talk to Stanley. He's your guy! He's been here for years and is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. -The massive offering of amenities is exceptional. They have multiple pools, grills, hammocks, a beer garden, food truck Friday's, a complementary barista/coffee bar, a calendar full of monthly events for residents, top notch gym facilities, and more. -The location is ideal. Very active friendly neighborhood, that's literally walking distance to everything you need. The cons: -The grounds aren't always well maintained. No one seems to pick up after their dogs, and to my knowledge the complex won't hire a service to keep that cleaned up. Which means dog waste seems to be everywhere constantly (...like don't step in the grass...ever). -The amenities are fantastic, but not always well maintained. And when one breaks, it can take ages to fix...especially the fire pits and grills. -Parking is a nightmare. There just doesn't seem to be enough of it for the number of residents that this place has. Depending on the time of day, you can end up having to make a pretty significant walk from your car back to your apartment. And if you try to bring home groceries on a weekend or evening...we'll, may the parking odds be ever in your favor. -They offer trash valet. In theory this is great, but it's frustrating that the service they use (which you pay for) will look for any reason not to take your trash, is extremely unfriendly, and can be quite messy (they have literally left messes for us to clean up at our front door on more than one occasion). -While they do offer a variety of fun monthly events for the residents, they aren't always great about providing details about them. They like to use a badly organized resident portal calendar and/or social media to tell you about stuff thats going on. Unfortunately they often have a tendency to leave off vital information on how to participate (like where it takes place or how to sign up) so it can be a little frustrating trying to get involved with those. The events also often don't seem to be designed for enough people, which is problematic considering how big the community is. -The takeaway: Living here has been a pretty decent experience. As far as the apartments themselves, you can't do much better. The grounds, amenity maintenance, trash valet, and some other minor things could definitely use some work, but the issues we've experienced here were relatively minor when compared to how nice the actual living space is, and the convenient location of the community itself. read more

Don't fall for all the amenities and nice finishes. One thing after another something wrong happens. What set my experience over the edge, after living here for 8 or so months, was that I booked a guest suite for my two older female family members, who drove 8 hours to visit. They gave them a guest suite with almost floor to ceiling windows with no blinds. From the outside you can see right into the room with direct access to the beds (I can see into it from my apartment). We voiced our complaints to concierge and they directed us to leasing. When I spoke to leasing they basically did not care and refused to do anything about the situation. 1. They said having no blinds was INTENTIONAL 2. bragged about how so many people wanted to book suites 3. said that all the other rooms didn't have blinds (this is not true based on looking at the outside of the building) 4. Said that there were no other rooms (I guarantee that they did not check on this)... At least they "said" that they would refund us, but we'll see... my family members now have to find a new place to stay after their long trip because they don't feel comfortable staying in a room WHERE STRANGERS CAN WATCH YOU SLEEP/UNDRESS. Would you want someone watching you while you sleep/undress? Is this how you'd want your family members, especially female family members, treated? I'd think again about living here and renting a guest room. They didn't even supply the guest room with toilet paper lol. read more

We love living here at the Village and would just like to enjoy our time here in Charlotte. *******Update****** Management is targeting the black tenants. I recently had a major repair done in my apartment that took several months to complete due to a roof leak. Management is using retaliatory behaviors' because of this issue. Management handled the completion of that poorly; lacked communication etc. Today I received an email that someone is monitoring me and reported that I have an illegal pet in my residence. I was not asked if I had the illegal pet I was just told that I do. I forwarded via email all documents showing that I added both my pets to the lease when I first moved here. Today I also received a notice for a trash violation that did not occur. There are several tenants that continuously leave bags of trash around throughout the bldg, but I committed a violation that you the office is unaware of yourself, okay!. The leasing office could not verify why I received the violation or what day the violation occurred. I feel that we are being targeted and watched. Staff also lives throughout the complex and make false reports to management watching the tenants every move. The rent here is not cheap, but its being made to feel that way because of how we are continuously being treated. And of course higher management is never in the office to discuss said matters. read more

I have lived her since December of 2019. I really wanted to give this community the benefit of the doubt, but I have lost all patience and faith that I will leave her satisfied of happy at all. Below is the overview of how I feel. 1. The apartments have some serious design flaws. Not enough light in the bathroom, not enough hot water to run a bath, the worst flooring ever (stick down vinyl that will warp, pop up and attract dirt and dust.) If you move in be prepared to have to vacate your apartment at some point for them to replace all of your floors, with the same ones. 2. 24 hour concierge. This is an outright lie. There is one concierge (this is using the term loosely) on premise at a time. They are impossible to track down even before the coronavirus hit, which made getting packages and mail impossible in the first few months of my lease. They take long lunches, and never answer the phone. You feel like requesting packages is bothering some of them. They are also mostly useless because it seems they can't make decisions on their own and usual pawn you off on management or leasing. If they are not there, you are out of luck. 3. Management. I was woah fully over sold on this places and regret moving in. There is no good will once you move in from them. They also lack basic corporate communication skills, so you are always kind of wondering whats going on. New coffee bar? No directions to it. Outdoor space to use with lounge chairs? No notices of them ripping up the turf. Supposed Peleton bikes in both building gyms? Just kidding we had a survey that you weren't a party too. When I emailed management about my concerns (and this was after I was curtly asked by the concierge "Who would do this much for you [during the pandemic]?") They responded with a form letter that did not address my specific questions, but gave an overlay of generalities. When I requested them to read my original email, they responded with information that made it clear they did not reread it. This is why I am here writing this. I pay as much as 33% above the average rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in Charlotte. Is it worth it? Absolutely not. So some suggestions: Excited by the Pelotons? Buy one. There are two bikes for the entire community so don't expect to be able to use it anywhere near peak hours. Rent a place for a $1000 a month, save for 4 months and buy your own. The co-working space? Again, its not worth it. The office will not be stocked with supplies. The 3 dedicated offices require a special key to get in. Support WeWork or another space in the area. More comfortable, more amenities, and you'll still pay less than your rent. Crossfit gym? I have not done cross-fit in years and this doesn't look like an a place i would want to do it. I've been to OTF gyms before and crossfit gyms in other areas where it felt like you were working out with other people and there was a commardary in it. If that is not your thing, this one might be for you. But a crossfit gym membership would still be cheaper. Pools: I wouldn't know. we can't use them. Service: Forget about it. Not excited about writing this. But, I'm pretty much over this place. read more

Our bedroom door, closet and bathroom door handles were a little loose. Armando from maintenance came to fix it. He was in and our under 10 mins. Unfortunately, shortly after he left I locked myself out of the bedroom. I called down to concierge and spoke to Angelo. Within 5 mins Armando came back and fixed the door for me. Such amazing service and friendly gentleman. These are just some examples of why it is so wonderful to live here! I've lived at the Village at Commonwealth for a couple of months. I enjoy my place and the amenities but I have had problems with my fridge since I moved in that have yet to be resolved. I've put in three separate maintenance requests and none of them have fixed the problem. I requested if I could get a new fridge and they completely ignored me. My fridge makes so much noise, knocking, rumbling etc. and since my place is small I have to work next to my kitchen and I cannot focus with all the noise. I would love to renew my lease when it comes to that point but I don't know if I can with how inattentive they have been towards my issue. I have also encountered at least 10 cockroaches in my unit since I moved in so beware. read more

I have lived here for almost five years, and have never had any issues. I have been lucky. I have gotten lots of friends to move here and was confused when they told me about the horrible experiences they'd been having, and was nervous that the day would come that I would have an issue and be met with the same lack of resolution from the leasing office as well as Northwood Ravin. Unfortunately, that time has come. Someone moved in next door to me who smokes inside of their unit nonstop, to the point that it is coming into my dryer and closet vents. They smoke inside their bedroom right next to my balcony and the wind brings the smell into my unit, so I am getting inundated with secondhand smoke. I have horrific asthma and allergies which have been triggered by this. In the many years I've lived here, there have been MANY rules which I follow and SWIFT repercussions if any of them are not met. So I was shocked to find out that apparently, if you smoke inside your unit, pretty much nothing will happen to you. In fact, the leasing office will defend you when dozens of residents complain about the secondhand smoke that you are inflicting upon your entire building. You will receive lease violations, but if you are already the type of person who is smoking inside of a non-smoking building, I can't imagine these mean much to you. Ultimately, the leasing office will not do a single thing if you are violating this rule. There have been countless other residents who have complained about this issue, and all of us have been basically met with the response that either we are imagining it, or that the leasing office can't really do anything about it. The implication that I am imagining this or wrong was probably the most infuriating part of this scenario. The amount of money I have spent to live here is sickening, and I was disappointed to learn firsthand that they would sooner gaslight you than help you. This company does not care AT ALL about long-time residents, only getting new people in who are willing to spend an absurd amount of money. They will love bomb you to death until you sign the lease, and then they will act like they do not see you when you are standing in front of them begging for help so that you can breathe peacefully in your own home. I was told that my options were pretty much to move out. If you are looking for a "luxury apartment" to destroy with no repercussions, this could be a great home for you. On top of this, none of the cameras on the property work. My building has an open door 50+ hours a week in plaza midwood, but there are hardly any security measures in place. The only thing this leasing office is willing to help you with is taking your money. Pet cleanup is not enforced so the property is covered in waste, and reeks of cigarettes, but oddly enough, you will be charged if there is an empty trashcan left in front of your door. read more

I have lived here for 2 years and will tell anyone: do not move here. It may look nice but it is not. This whole place is a turd painted gold. I wish I looked more closely when I toured, if I had I would have seen the uneven floors and poor paint job, I would have noticed that the closet fixtures were cheap before they ripped out of the wall in the middle of the night, breaking many of my belongings. I would have noticed the damage from water pooling on my deck due to poor drainage. I would have noticed that there is NO parking, and what is there is unsafe and subject to break-ins (with no cameras in the parking lots, either, despite multiple thefts). If you park on the street, it is only a matter of time before your car is totaled by careless drivers. While I love a good doggo, many people do not pick up after their dogs and the staff does nothing to clean the poop either. The leasing staff is completely incompetent. I have been over-charged due to errors on their part, and I heard every excuse in the book rather than them taking responsibility and remedying the situation. The maintenance staff, although generally kind, are not professionally trained. I spoke with a member of maintenance one day before he was set to leave the company, and he told me that they put up phase 2 so quickly that there are massive water leaks. My upstairs neighbor lets her dog pee off the balcony, and I have been waiting for weeks for the leasing staff to do something about it. Finally, a month later, they sent power washers who literally left it dirtier than before they came. They do not replace your water filters, they just reset the fridge so it goes back to "safe" even though it is clearly not. I have been given other people's packages and received panicked messages to return before they noticed. The coffee bar is rarely open and there is no communication about when it is and is not available. Half of the stuff in the gym is broken or worn out, and they boast 4 Pelotons but you will be lucky if two of them are working at any given time. The pools are nice but completely overcrowded with nowhere to sit. If you want to move to a larger/different unit in the same complex, they will charge you hundreds of dollars. read more

The management is a joke. The parking is terrible, the single parking garage is unsafe from lack of mirrors to it being too narrow it only has enough space for a car to drive in one direction. If you park on the street it's a only a matter of time before your vehicle is involved in an accident The units are noisy and extremely bright from all of the exterior lights. The pool is nice but overcrowded. The actual units are aesthetically pleasing but that's as far as it goes. The unit rented to me reeks of pet odor and urine. Management has done nothing but dodge me and pretend to help but the odor is so strong it has absorbed into my items. Ginette is by far the worst, I don't imagine she will be employed long. I wouldn't recommend this complex to a homeless person... I'm actually in the middle of suing them, don't lose money like I have. I have regrets. I rented one of the most expensive place in the complex, but regardless of the coin dropped, I moved into a townhouse that had a broken AC (middle of the summer), broken kitchen sink, broken window shades, walls that were not painted around any of the edges (looks ridiculous) marks on the wall, wasp nests by the front door, a birds nest over the front door that dropped sh** everywhere, and a master bathroom that was not cleaned. This community is in a great location, with amazing amenities and events. Neighbors are friendly and the staff do a great job with events to help build a tight-knit community. You can't beat the location - right by the park and walking distance to tons of places in Plaza. As a pet owner, I appreciate all the pet-friendly amenities like the dog park and special events for dogs. Unfortunately, this is where The Village moves from 5 stars down to 3 in my book. The amount of people who leave their dog poop on the ground is high (this morning alone I was out for 7 minutes with my dog and passed TEN different spots with poop). I know of several dogs that have gotten sick just because there's poop laying around, seeping into the soil/grass and water, so if your dog likes to eat grass, lick water off the ground, or even pick up a stick from the mulch, they're likely to get sick at some point (or track it in on their paws from just walking - make sure to wipe their paws!). There's even dog poop left in hallways and elevators - it's disgusting. Management has done nothing to resolve this issue other than send emails reminding people to pick up their dog poop. If they would explore other options to hold people accountable (reviewing security cameras to fine people, fecal DNA testing, etc.), it would really clean up the community. A clean community would push my rating to a 5-star rating. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would! This place does not care about the SAFETY of their residents! After living here for 3 years there have been multiple car break ins, car hit and run, and bike stolen off 2nd floor balcony! Each call to the management went one ear and out the other! I have asked about cameras to provide safety at night (Charlotte police department has even recommended) and they will not spend the money to help residents feel safe! I can't even take my dog out at night without feeling a little uneasy! Don't waste your money on this place is not what they make it out to be! They won't spend the money on you to make you feel safe so don't waste your time/money on them! read more

I've been at village of Commonwealth for 3 years now and in the last couple of days just beware if you decide to move in that the alarm for the building will go off sporadically so yesterday June 6th it decided to start going off at 6:15 in the morning granted only lasted 10 minutes but then today a beautiful Saturday morning the alarm went off again at 6:30 in the morning it got turned off within 15 minutes and then it decided it was going to go off again at 8:15 in the morning so a few people have called concierge who are on site 24/7 but instead of calling maintenance or calling the property manager or the community manager to let them know that there's an issue we wait till 10:00 in the morning when the leasing office opens so they can start handling the problem so common sense would say to me as an employee in a customer service role that the minute someone calls to complain about something my first phone call is going to be to the community to the community manager and then again to maintenance so not real sure if you want to be woken up on a work day at times where you're working from home or on a beautiful Saturday when you're not even allowed to sleep in on your day off so think about that before you want to move in read more

It is crazy that we pay so much to live here and did not have AC. Our apartment had not even been cleaned when we moved in and it was disgusting. Had a light fixture fall on us when we were sleeping. The coffee bar, amenities, and staff are the BEST!!! Literally why I love living here. Krista, the barista, is an angel and all my friends are jealous of my FREE delicious coffee every morning AT MY APARTMENT! Coffee is better than Starbucks and local. The concierge is awesome, they are always there to help and so nice. Stan the man, or formally known as Stanly, is awesome along with Christian being a saint as well! They are building more another bar, the second GYM is sick, and I can't wait for the beer garden to open. So glad I chose to move here. read more

I am frustrated to be living here and I am extremely frustrated about an event that occurred this week. My building caught on fire and the tenants of the building were never notified that there was a fire. I understand they cannot disclose the cause of the fire but there was never an email sent that there was a fire in my building. If I was not home at the time, I would have never known this occurred. I feel less safe living here now that I know the leasing staff is not transparent of events that occur. read more

Everyone has their list of MUST haves when locating to a new space. My review is based on desiring a peaceful place to live. If peace isn't top priority for you, this review may not apply. I'll gladly update my review when the amenities spaces are better under control. Let me elaborate. First off, the staff and concierge are AMAZING; the barista, the apartments - gorgeous! Phase 2 is a new build and there have been some major building hiccups and maintenance is swift and efficient to resolve the issues. I forgive all the maintenance issues and there have been many. Where I am taking off 3 stars is for the general issue regarding rule enforcement in this complex and that looks like non residents crowding amenity spaces like pools, grills, hot tubs, the volleyball court, and residents leaving spaces like the pool and game rooms trashed on a consistent basis. We've gone to management numerous times about the issues regarding the pool - the noise - the crowds (mid pandemic by the way) and they say that they 'know,' they're 'trying to hire a pool monitor,' that 'residents have just been really cooped up and the parties should start to taper off...' But it's been weeks without resolve and this issue will not resolve itself. The person who enforces the pool rules is often the concierge who spends most of Saturday and Sunday driving between pools and kicking people out while also managing a seemingly never ending line of people waiting for their packages. When concierge asks someone to turn their music down, sometimes they crank it back up when he walks away. And there are also always new groups arriving and turning up their speaker system. At any given point, it's not uncommon that there are 4 separate speaker systems competing for air. I could go on....the staff is stretched and the concierge is dealing with things I am certain they had no idea they would have to deal with. There is also no one wiping down lounge chairs as they just don't have sufficient staff to provide that, let alone consistently enforce that 5 residents haven't each invited 10 friends for day drinking at the pool. There are 822 units and one concierge who also has to play security. It also really sucks going to bed at 10pm on a Sunday night and waking up at 1130pm to a cackling group who snuck into the pool cracking open beer cans. If you're going to sneak in (which VC has made it SUPER easy to do) then be quiet! But this happens every. single. Sunday. night. If you move here and peace is important to you, I strongly advise against living near an amenity space. My husband and I moved here from NYC. I have lived in some noisy places, but have never experienced anything quite like this. This place is at a cross roads - either they seize control of their property and work to create a community of resident culture in which respect and love for your neighbors flourishes, or it completely turns into a college campus. I can't imagine anyone who could pay the $3900 per month that VC is charging for their townhomes would willfully choose to live in a place that feels and looks like a college campus. I've really enjoyed my time living here at The Village at Commonwealth, they offer amazing amenities - concierge service, on-site barista, free workout classes multiple times a week, etc. The apartments have a sleek design which I really enjoy. My only drawback would be safety, as some of the doors to get into a building are questionable sometimes as far as safety is concerned. I have put in multiple work orders and been told me just lift the door handle another direction, but from a safety standpoint a lot of the doors need better security. read more

I've lived here a few months now and maybe I'm not picky or don't ask for much but this by far has been my favorite place to live in ( and I've been renting for 8 years now). The location is amazing, the staff is amazing and the community itself is amazing. The leasing staff as well as the concierge staff are always pleasant, friendly and kind. The apartments are beautiful and compared to other apartment communities in the area, this community exceeds in amenities. I've used almost every single amenity since I moved in ( and I thought I wouldn't) and it has been fantastic. Hands down, this truly is resort living. There are always community events that are happening, coupons, discounts or other simple gestures that the staff organizes that is truly one of the most unique things I've experienced. For example, this AM the staff was outside handing out free breakfast for residents... Bomb dot com. The community also has a "community forum/posting board" and in this way, they keep residents informed of any community events, friendly reminders and residents are also able to post. I'm not sure why people have complained about the staff, but I'll tell you a quick interaction that I had with them. When I recently moved in I placed an online order but silly me, I wrote down the wrong apartment number. Long story short, I informed the leasing staff of my error and they quickly worked together in helping me retrieve my package! They kept me updated and emailed me once my package had been tracked and was ready for pickup. Truly an amazing experience. If you are hesitant about this community, don't be, it's truly a great place to live. read more

Great place, but doesn't do anything about domestic violence reports :( but other than that the pool is nice and the doors are never secured
