My roommate and I moved in and immediately discovered a strong cigarette smoke odor that seeped into our clothes, furniture, and personal belongings. The apartment was essentially unlivable, yet management failed to resolve the issue despite weeks of complaints. What made it even worse was the complete lack of customer service. Tracey at the property and Peyton and Timi at corporate were unresponsive, dismissive, and unwilling to provide a fair resolution. We repeatedly reached out for help and couldn't even get a callback. To add insult to injury, we were forced to pay nearly $2,000 for an apartment we could barely live in. Then the balance was sent to collections without anyone returning our calls or making a genuine effort to resolve the situation. We were unable to rent a new apartment until we paid it. This was by far the worst rental experience I've ever had. Poor management, terrible communication, and zero accountability. Honest Review of Uptown 550 - Avoid if You Value Your Sanity I've lived at Uptown 550 for over 2 years, and what started off as a decent experience in the mid-rise has turned into a nightmare since moving to the towers. If you're considering living here, you should know exactly what you're walking into. Move-In Disaster * I toured our new unit multiple times before move-in, pointed out several maintenance issues, and was promised they would all be resolved. Not a single one was. * We moved in to find a filthy apartment--fingerprints on the windows, footprints on the floor, leftover food in the fridge, and even underwear in the dryer. * Our master bedroom didn't even have an air vent. For 2 nights in July, we slept in 97° heat before they brought us a temporary portable AC unit that forced us to do laundry in another building. Management is Useless * Peyton (assistant property manager) openly admitted she didn't understand how their own billing or transfer process worked. * Kristy Vazquez (regional manager) is hostile, dismissive, and flat-out rude. After fighting for weeks, she "graciously" offered 2 weeks' rent credit and told me I was "wasting her time." * Emails take forever to get answered--if they get answered at all. Maintenance is a Joke * Dishwasher has been broken for 2 months and counting. * Vinyl flooring in the kitchen is peeling and oozing glue. * Multiple fans, lighting fixtures, and other issues from move-in day were never addressed until I hounded them. * Maintenance staff entered my apartment without knocking--waking my boyfriend and me up in bed. Amenities & Building Issues * Hallways constantly reek of weed, despite repeated complaints. * Elevators are constantly broken--at one point, both were down for hours while concierge literally laughed. * Hot tub has been out of service for months. * Dog park is disgusting, rarely cleaned, and full of aggressive dogs. * Residents speed through the parking deck and management does nothing. * We've had everything from SWAT showing up for a gun incident to broken glass in the dog park after a shooting. Other Red Flags * Rap videos being filmed on-site. * Concierges range from sweet to extremely rude. * Barista is rarely there. * Management enforces rules inconsistently (I was ticketed for parking in my own paid spot while others park illegally with no consequences). The only redeeming factor is the location and walkability--but nothing justifies paying over $3,000/month for constant headaches, unprofessional management, and unsafe conditions. Bottom line: This place has potential, but it's ruined by terrible management, unaddressed maintenance, and a complete lack of accountability. I originally posted this review months ago, but new evidence has come to light that confirms what I've been saying all along--this building is unsafe, and management has actively ignored resident health concerns. Since moving into Uptown 550 in February 2025, my health completely deteriorated--breathing problems, vision decline, neurological issues, and eventually loss of consciousness. I've now been diagnosed with restrictive lung disease and confirmed mold exposure. The most alarming part? I paid for independent environmental testing, which found extensive mold contamination inside the HVAC system, including dangerous mold growth all over the coils I begged management to clean for months. They ignored my requests while my health declined. The photos I've uploaded here show the actual mold covering the inside of the HVAC unit in my apartment--the same unit that was blowing air throughout my home. Instead of accountability, management gaslit me, denied responsibility, and pressured me to move out without providing any safe solution to handle contaminated belongings. Meanwhile, I've spent thousands on medical bills, lost work, and been displaced. Since speaking out, I've heard from other residents dealing with similar health issues and environmental hazards here and at other Northwood Ravin properties. Most people are afraid to speak publicly. I was too--but after what I've endured, I refuse to stay quiet. Behind the luxury marketing is a company that puts profit over people. Reviews are good because they encourage residents to leave positive reviews about specific team members. I'd advise against moving here. Work orders go unresolved for months. My water has had a smell for 5 months and was brown at one point. Amenities that used to be free now come with a charge. Elevators have improved but still go down more than you'd like - l've been stuck in one. The staff that used to make it worth living here are all gone. The bar isn't as fun as it used to be. Events have gone downhill. Little to no notice is given when routine maintenance must be performed. They do not care if you request to be contact ahead of someone entering your unit. There are also huge roaches on the rooftop patio. I live next to the elevator and can hear people through my bedroom wall, which is unpleasant. They will give you a concession to shut you up and act like you should never complain again because of it. I've had a reserved parking space for a while because they converted handicapped parking to a charging station. I also dealt with so many plumbing issues that I have a provision on breaking my lease which is what they seem to be pushing me towards, rather than dealing with me or the ongoing problems. All this complimented with an outstanding 24/7 concierge team - makes this building an easy choice. My experience with this luxury apartment has been far from satisfactory. Despite committing to a lease for over a year and paying a premium of over $1800 for a studio 558 square ft space, the management decided to lower the rent to $1400 just two months after I signed. This unexpected reduction not only devalued my investment but also left me feeling undervalued as a long-term resident. The only way to reduce my rent is to pay a $750 transfer fee AND sign another 12 month lease. To add insult to injury, reserved parking spots, which were initially touted as an exclusive perk, were given away without any consideration for those who had already signed leases. The lack of transparency and fairness in such decisions is disheartening. What's particularly frustrating is the management's refusal to address or rectify these issues. As a loyal tenant who has been with them for over a year, the dismissive attitude towards my concerns is unacceptable. It's disconcerting when a place that markets itself as luxury fails to uphold its promises and leaves its residents feeling disregarded. I would not recommend living here. The abrupt change in management is always a sign. It is very clear they do not care about their tenants and only want to fill empty apartments. The luxury amentities (such as the hot tub for example) are always closed without any communication. In summary, my experience with this luxury apartment has been marred by abrupt rent reductions, loss of promised amenities, and a lack of responsiveness from the management. Awesome facility with the different things that are offered with conceige & maintenance are very attentive. Location is great as well but.... The office is unresponsive and takes 0 accountability for fixing any issues. The office needs a clean sweep and gives 0 upper management assistance even though requested through ignored emails, calls, and walking in person. They beg and do incentives for good reviews so take them with a grain of salt. My apartment shook like crazy-which I also made them aware of. The owner should really look at the office and high turnover rate of their employees, this could be a beautiful place to WANT TO LIVE if HR would stops hiring their FRIENDS and actually start doing quality interviews. It's been an adjustment living here after coming from a suburban home. But the one thing that makes up for it is seeing and interacting with good people. Concierge is a great amenity of this property and even more so when it's someone that cares. My shoutout is to Eric in concierge. I put in a maintenance request with him about a lock issue we were having with the front door. Eric came up and repaired the problem himself. I AM TRULY IMPRESSED! Not many people would have stepped out of their scope of work, but ERIC did. People like him makes living here a memorable experience. read more

I've lived in Uptown 550 for almost two years now and my only real complaint is the elevator situation. The hot tub is great when it works and the resident events have gotten a lot better. My favorite thing about living in the tower is the concierge. Jalauni, Carrington, Thomas, Aulaun, and Dakota are absolutely wonderful. #3 Update as of 1/21/24: The lights have now been strobing in every room of each apartment in the entire building for close to two hours now. Called the front desk again and they cannot turn them off even though the fire department has been gone for over an hour and a half. #2 Update as of 1/21/24: Just spoke to the front desk about the current fire alarm. Apparently it was a system issue that still persists. The fire department came earlier and they left a while ago. The strobe lights in every room of my apartment are still going off. When I spoke to the front desk they indicated that the company would be out to turn off the lights within an hour. Apparently another fire system issue. This makes me seriously question the system in place and obviously having lights strobing in your apartment for 30 minutes plus the approximately hour they estimate for the other company to turn them off is very disruptive. Update as of 1/21/24: Water was turned off one evening this past week and the pressure the next morning was very low. Taking a shower the next morning was very difficult. There was barely a trickle. While the water was off the fire alarm was going off and the property's notification system was sending all residents SMS text messages in error. This happens often. Since then and still as of this week one of the tower elevators has been down and there has been another fire alarm. While all fire alarms should be treated seriously the system that is in place at this building seems to have more issues than any other building I have experienced. The multiple alarms that have occurred since I have lived here for the last two years have typically been due to system issues. Which makes you wonder if the system would work when actually needed? Update as of 1/7/24: The dog park in the tower is no longer monitored because there are multiple owners every night who are not picking up after their dogs. The property isn't enforcing their policies. Also they said they would take care of the situation with the dog barking next door but nothing has changed. I have asked the front desk for the property manager to contact me about the situation and haven't heard anything. Update as of 11/18/23: The property does not respond to or address concerns raised by residents. I have called the concierge at least 7 times on separate days about the nonstop barking next to me and nothing has been done about it. They have experienced for themselves after I reported it and called me to apologize yet nothing changes. Elevators are down frequently in the tower and while they have implemented some controls for pet owners they are not willing to enforce or restrict access to the dog park in the tower for tenants that do not pick up after their pets. I have raised these concerns via ReportIt but they will not respond. read more

Pro's: Gym and sauna Location 24/hr concierge Con's: Elevator was down when we moved in so it took us all day moving while people got on and off our elevator Takes on average 12 minutes to find parking and get to our unit. More and more parking spots are now reserved paid for parking so if you don't pay for those you have to find further away spots. They have two elevators for over 900 tenants in the tower and half the time one of them is down. The building should have 3 elevators a 4th designated service elevator. Instead they chose 2 that are seemingly a cheaper and low quality type that break down at least once a week. Sometime both elevators were down, imagine walking up and down 18 floors! They charged us $250 to "reserve the elevator" for move out because it was on a weekend. This apparently is their solution to not having enough elevators for the building When we did move out the elevator broke with our movers in it and the fire department had to come rescue them and we not only had to help calm them down and tip them extra, we had to move everything back in then go buy an air mattress to sleep on and take off work to reschedule the entire move. Corporate went a week emailing us back and forth in a very demeaning manner and failed to offer us any type of compensation for this. Saw individuals with assault rifles in the elevator one time heading to the parking garage and a separate time I heard a shooting happen while in the gym and had to step over blood in the lobby to get to the elevators and back to my apartment. They said in an email to everyone that these things were happening due to a lack of screening and background process on tenants. This issue has improved and screening and security had been beefed up. They don't change the batteries on the fire alarm so they go off in the middle of the night each year and you have to go buy batteries lol n the middle of the night if you don't have them. Dog park is a mess and is never cleaned up. Hot tub has too much chlorine and irritates the skin. A lot of partying goes on I had to complain to the front desk or police several times with noise complaints late into the night read more

Run! This place is a nightmare. I've had issues since day 1. The place is falling apart.... by the day. 1- very bad crime in the past few months including a shooting and armed robbery 2- major plumbing and electrical issues inside my house including an ongoing mold problem.- I had sewage water leaking into my unit and the power went out weekly 3- elevators are always broken 4- don't expect them to be honest at move in about your gift card. You will wait months 5- management sucks and the office staff changes monthly 6- the property manager takes weeks to respond to issues and is never in the office 7- the new residents they are letting in the property do drugs in the parking garage- seems they just let anyone move in 8- amenities are always down Don't bother wasting your time moving into this property. Updating my review based out on my move out experience with the complex. The complex is an ok place to live. The pros to living here were my commute to work, the two free months i had, and the friendly staff. The leasing agents and leasing staff here are all friendly and welcoming and they plan good events. Other than that you're overpaying rent. The walls in the flats are very thin. I could legit hear conversations from my neighbors in my Living room. The garage also has a poor design. Parking spots are narrow and I've scratched my car while driving around the garage. I've seen other cars with similar scratches.And I've heard of bikes being vandalized on property. Also, i basically had to pay the complex $60 for a replacement fob, if i ever wanted to have a dog walker or house cleaner come by my house while I'm away. So much for luxury. I overlooked many of these issues because i knew it'd only be temporary. However, after moving out, I've been getting hit with sudden fees. A few weeks after leaving , i was charged $600 for giving the complex 'insufficient ' notice of my move out date (i gave them a 4 month move out notice). Thankfully the team realized the mistake and i was given back most of my security deposit, with some utility fees taken off (which I'm sure i paid before i moved out). After two months after i moved out , I'm received a $60 utility bill because i stopped service in the day i moved out vs the day my lease ended. What would have been a $6 electric bill, is now $60 due to some BS 'Electric cost recovery fee'. I'll gladly pay it so this company leaves me alone. If you aren't getting rent concession you should look somewhere else. There are cheaper and better Complexes in the surrounding area. read more

We do not recommend living in this building. This review is based on my husband and I's experience living there for 2 years. few positives: - 24h concierge/Gym/ Spa/ community events These positives have been outweighed by the dark side of this property: - Security. Gun violence, there has been gun violence incidents including a person getting shot in the lobby leaving blood everywhere. The response of this incident from the management was and I quote "We had a security incident here at the property on Saturday, January 23. An individual committed identity fraud and obtained a lease here at the property." Admitting themselves the lack of security this building provides and endangering the lives of its residents all while claiming to be a luxury property. This alone to me is a deal breaker, some families live here this is unacceptable! - Privacy. These walls seem to be made out of thin air, you can hear your neighbours flushing the toilets, opening and closing theirs doors, talking, parties. - Pet Cleanliness. All the dog amenities are just filthy with dog poop and just unusable. Nothing remotely close to the "luxury" you'd expect from such place. - Management Professionalism. We recently experienced this while trying to Move out. Management and precisely Kristy Vazquez has had nothing but a passive aggressive attitude doing nothing to try to find a solution to our problem or meet us half way. She is unprofessional, unorganised, rude and clueless of what her staff if doing, a joke for a said "luxury" property. - Design and built. Do not get fooled this "luxury" place. Everything is flat and grey grey floors/ grey countertops/ grey light fixtures/ grey carpets/ grey tile/ grey backsplash/ grey window shades/ grey doors/ grey closets, simply boring. And the way it was built is cheap, we had so many things break, shower door almost feel onto us/ dishwasher kept falling off of it's socket until maintenance told us that there was nothing they could do to fix it/ master shower always smelled like pee and again nothing they could do to change it. - Excessive Fees. you have a fee to get a reserved parking spot. Fee to get your packages. Fee to move in or out on a weekend. - Parking Accessibility. most of the close parking spots are all reserved and therefore almost impossible to find free parking. guest parking here is almost impossible, only a few spots that always seem to be occupied. - Smoking rules. The property is said "smoke free" but always smells like weed in hallways/ elevators/ parking garage. No matter how many times you notify the management. - Move in and move out rules. So we recently found out that "We normally do not allow weekend tower moves" but if you really have to they will make you pay a $250 fee. - Elevators. Let's put it this way, they occasionally work. They are the worst part of this building, every single resident of the tower will agree. The worst incident being, during our move out the elevator broke with all our movers in it, they claimed the elevator dropped a few floors before stopping abruptly leaving them stuck with bunch of furniture for a long time. Fire department had to rescue them and our things stayed stuck all day and all night. We had to reschedule our move and pay 2 set of movers. No management effort has been made to make up for this fail to have functioning and safe elevators to operate. The fact that they pay a monthly fee to the elevator company to come and fix the elevators says a lot on their quality. They claim that "Uptown 550 on Brooklyn, an unmatched lifestyle destination designed to create the ultimate living experience. Uptown 550 is complete with everything you could dream of." It just seems to me that the word luxury is used as a marketing tool but doesn't hold any truth. You pay a premium to live here and while the concierge and staff are very friendly, the management and turnover in the leasing office Is terrible. Any third-party vendors that Northwood Ravin pays (American Waste Services in this matter) are allowed to commit AS MANY MISTAKES AS THEY WANT. Northwood Ravin DOES NOT PENALIZE THEM NOR ASK TO DO THEIR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. When a resident makes ONE mistake, they will WEIGH IT OVER MULTIPLE MISTAKES caused by a third-party vendor (American Waste Services in this matter), and ASK YOU TO MOVE OUT, NOT ALLOWING YOU TO RENEW YOUR LEASE. Hence, Northwood Ravin DO NOT PUT THEIR RESIDENTS FIRST. They PUT YOU LAST, and try their hardest to put the blame on you, EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT AT FAULT. FYI, 4 CRIME SCENES have occurred here SINCE FEBRUARY 2021, including someone GETTING SHOT who lived on the 3rd floor of the Mid-rise, an attempted Robbery in the Tower (6 days after the shooting), a car crash in the garage where the driver CRASHED INTO 5 OTHER RESIDENTS' VEHICLES, and a FIGHT at the pool on 4th of July involving Guests who DO NOT live at the Apartment Complex. There was EVEN A POOL ATTENDANT SUPPOSED TO MAKE SURE NO RESIDENT HAD MORE THAN 2 GUESTS. He sure FAILED to do his job on 4th of July. Original Review: Regional Manager, Tiffany Edwards, values the TRASH company, American Waste Services, over her residents. Tiffany and the former Property Manager gave me a LEASE VIOLATION when I argued to the Valet Waste Services for failing to do their job 2 days in a row. I called the company (American Waste Services) 4 or 5 times, they never answered. Instead of standing by my side, the resident (which they receive money from), they stood with American Waste Services (who they pay). DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME RENTING HERE. The Northwood Ravin Headquarters are here and NO ONE will stand by your side to help you in these situations. At some point, someone robbed my Valet Waste Bin from American Waste Services. It took the apartment 1 week to give me a new bin after I went to their office 3 times. They have no evidence of who robbed my old bin nor if someone broke into my apartment to rob it. Meanwhile, whoever robbed my old one was not given a Lease Violation. I even asked the front office to have someone do a service request of a door report to see if someone else broke into my apartment to rob my Valet Waste bin. Still haven't received the report. Clearly, they pick and choose which residents they like and don't like. Also, the employees in the front office cry if you leave a 1 star review. Last time, one of the employees in the front office begged me to remove it. I got nothing out of it. The property manager and now Mike Wilson keep trying hard to make me remove it. We moved into this building last year in October. We been here for 5 months now and so many things changed. At first, things seems fine, but then certain things starting coming to light. First, they don't explain their promotions. We initially got 3 months free, and was told we could use our first free month for the first month, then the last two free months at the end of our lease. Such a huge confusion. Ended up getting charged for that free month and finally corrected it, After countless times of calling the office, going downstairs to talk to leasing. etc. at one point we didn't even feel comfortable paying rent online bc it wasn't reliable. Communication with leasing/management is poor and the residents don't seem to care. Trash everywhere, pet feces, seem to double after each weekend. I felt like I was living in a dorm. Residents/guests NOT wearing masks in common areas and management not enforcing the rules! It came to a point where I DID NOT feel safe. There was even an incident of a shooting on my floor. Cops came, closed the entire floor. I had never seen security before this incident. For as much as the rent is, there definitely should be security 24/7, Not to mention, being located in uptown. Then sent an email to the residents explaining the incident. Calling the person who was the resident plus the one who had gotten shot a "scammer". That just makes you look classless, Uptown 550, not to mention, it's YOUR job to properly SCREEN potential residents BEFORE they move in! It would never happen if you did EXACTLY that! Smh One thing I can say is the location is quite convenient, one of the biggest reasons why we chose this building to live. Amenities are nice, although, they are not always working. Would love to highlight Aulaun at the 550 concierge. She is consistently friendly and when I was locked out of my room last week she was happy to assist me. She personally walked me to my room and was able to unlock the door, saving me hours of waiting. Good to live at a place with people like Aulaun working! read more

I have lived in uptown 550 for a year now and have loved the experience. Even though I love the pool, rooftop bar, 2 gyms, 3 dog parks, 24/7 concierge, nothing will make living here better than the people who work here! Rona, Abbey, KaRon, Don and the whole maintenance team are so friendly and helpful. They are always going the extra mile to make sure the residents are happy and safe. read more

I lived in a studio for a year in the mid rise and moved back to Savoy beginning of 2021. Best way to describe this apartment complex is that it is an expensive candy in a fancy wrapper that tastes mediocre at best. All the staff is friendly but the apartment complex and amenities are not ran well. Look elsewhere, I know a lot of residents had complaints when I lived there. This place has been a nightmare since the day I moved in. You think the community will be beautiful during your tour but it is a construction site. I had to move into the wrong apartment because mine was still under construction when I was supposed to move in. The apartment always has something falling apart because of the rushed construction job. The elevators never work not to mention the dog urine that's always in them and the hallways. Amenities never work when I try to use them. My car has been broken into. They lost a package of mine that was important to me. The fire alarm regularly has false alarms and residence are forced to pile up downstairs for no reason. They allow all breeds of dogs some of them have been aggressive when I walked by. They won't even change your refrigerator filter once it turns red and shows that it needs to be replaced. So much for luxury. Walls are paper thin, you hear everything. Communication with the office is awful. Get ready to send emails and phone calls without response. Someone who can help is always "in a meeting" then you never receive a call back. Despite all that I've continued to be kind and patient because I try not to let things gets to me. The last straw for me is that I was sent a renewal notification in October but I Purchased a home and close this month so I elected not to renew. I reached out to the Leasing Office because I wanted the full month of December instead of an early move out date so I could take my time with the move but told them I would move out early if I had to pay the month to month rate. I asked if there was anything they could do where I could pay my normal rate for the full month. After no response emails/calls with three different agents, I was finally told by management (Mario) in October that he couldn't give me my normal rent rate but he could charge me a dollar amount higher than my normal rate instead of the month to month rate. He said if I stayed full month of December my rent for the month of December would be that specific amount instead of the month to month rate with a move out date of 12/31. I sent a follow up email reflecting this phone conversation in October right after my call because I read online that many people had problems with the office with the price when it was time to move out and I didn't trust they would be professional. Well I was right. Now, when I log into the portal, the rent shows the month to month rate but the other administrative/utility fees online are correct. I've called to the office all week to have corrected but just get the run around. I'm still waiting for it to be resolved. I feel like I'm going to have to file a formal complaint on the Better Business Bureau website just to get a response. What a mess. Live ANYWHERE but here. read more

Wow! What can I say. Everyone who's seen my apartment is trying to move in with me lol! No but seriously it's an amazing place to live and I worked with Ingrid, Desmond and Mario... AMAZING and so helpful! You would think that with construction still taking place it would be noisy but it's not I haven't had my life interrupted once. I really feel like I stumbled across the best property in uptown. I HIGHLY recommend taking a tour if you're looking to move. Ingrid and Desmond helped me from application to move it and they went above and beyond to make sure that I was all set with any and everything that I needed. As reviews are consistently requested by staff, it is my contentment to give my review as a current resident regarding my experience of seven months here at uptown. As a professional designer based in Atlanta, relocating was extremely exciting. It was the new beginnings and most of all the visually admiring architecture of such building in mind. Considering my husband was able to show me the apartment only virtually during his quick tour. Obviously touring virtually you are limited to a full experience...The community is being portrayed as a high-end luxury community, but as a current resident luxury is unfortunately nonexistent. The craftsmanship of the unit is not what I expected from such a high-end branded community. My home should be an escape sanctuary and this is the complete opposite. I will speak on the profound issues as I cannot list them all in this review. The consistent traveling elevator sounds, balcony doors slamming and vibrating through units, and being able to hear highly confidential conversations from your neighbor while trying to use your bathroom. Seems to be a breach of privacy if I'm asked, something that should be guaranteed in one's home at the least. Unfortunately, there are a lot of quality repairs that need to be completed, all of which should have been completed prior to moving in a resident. There seems to also be a lack of accountability in the actions of residents who choose to not follow rules and regulations. This community sadly lacks a level of luxury and for that, I do not recommend this place as your new home. We look forward to breaking our lease and if necessary take legal action as our and other residences' privacy have been violated. read more

Joanna at the front desk is always so helpful! My daughter lives in the building and Joanna is always very friendly and is always ready to assist with any request. It's always nice to see a familiar face when arriving at Uptown 550. The apartments are great with wonderful views and great amenities in the building. read more

Concierge is nothing but the best and will always assist in whatever way possible. The leasing office/agents are incredibly understanding, nice, and provide phenomenal customer service. I will say, Lauren & Kristy have been nothing short of awesome throughout my time here with 550! The only negative thing I have to say about this apartment is that the maintenance team really doesn't seem to care that they work for one of the nicer apartments in all of Charlotte - everyone else seems to take pride. read more
