Their cafe can no longer handle the amount of new customer they have! We were there for Breakfast Sat. at 8:50, seated right away sooo didn't see it coming... -They ran out of menus so they wanted ours almost right away(we gave them one back) The server placed our order fairly quickly. -Coffee bar would not or could not steam or heat half and half so espresso was ice cold and caramel in my husbands coffee not tasty at all. WAITED ONE HOUR AND TEN MINUTES!! We both had the same order, what could be simpler... Spinach and mushroom omelette ( very bland and mushrooms not sauteed) Grits (very runny) Bakers potatoes (not fried good, so onions were still raw) Toasted baguette (burned) We flagged down our server a couple of times during our long wait to ask about out meal. But the fact that we waited so long was not as bad as the fact that no one checked on us not even the chef or the other staff that found time to go out back for A SMOKE BREAK!!! read more

Sunday Brunch was awesome. I am from Nashville, TN, living in SC now for a spell. My mother, aunt, and their best friend all came to visit for the weekend. I found this place online, and boy am I glad I took a chance. The place was quite full, but not on a wait so we were seated immediately. The Sunday Brunch is set up buffet style and everything I had was delicious. Lots of different types of fresh breads, fruit, salad, pasta salad, eggs, bacon sausage, chicken and dumplin soup, shrimp and grits (MY FAV), pork tenderloin, chicken florentine, mashed potatoes, home fries, the list just goes on and on. The PASTRY table is to die for! Many different types of dessert, sure to please everyone. Overall, I was extremely impressed. Great quality food and service. I know other reviewers have complained about the price, but I think $14 is very reasonable. Brunches like this in other cities are 20-25 dollars. I am quite happy to support our local business owners and I think the price is a deal. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE DISCOVERED A "BEST KEPT SECRET". I went there for a Sunday brunch with a growling stomach and great expectations only to get disappointed. Brunch was quite expensive and the choice wasnt great. Spinanch and cheese breads seem to be their favorite, since many types of those breads were present. They didn't seem as fresh nor was the food. It was cold. Service was just ok. We were made to sit out on a cold day . Overall a very poor experience and overrated food. Disappointing! read more

Delicious! Came upon this place by accident, and we were delightfully pleased with our experience this afternoon. I drove up from Columbia to take my mother and grandmother to lunch. My grandmother lives on Lake Keowee and wanted to go find a spot for a light lunch. We drove through the square and spotted this place. It was very busy, and we received excellent service. My mother and I split the Monte Cristo sandwich with apple coleslaw. It was more than enough food to split. The sandwich was wonderful! The bread was fresh, and we couldn't get enough of the sandwich! It was the perfect amount of sweet and savory! My grandmother ordered the quiche of the day, ham and cheese, with a side of the apple coleslaw. Afterward, we headed to the bakery for coffee and to admire the baked goods. Too full for dessert, we will definitely go back and sample the sweets soon! read more

Great soup and sandwiches. Huge servings. We had 3 different sandwiches and they were all delish. Potato salad is better than the cole slaw. Very casual and relaxed atmosphere. Good and friendly service. Stopped in the bakery for an assortment of baked goods which were all very good. Pendleton is a neat town to walk around -- a bunch of eclectic art and antique places and this is a perfect pit stop. We will be back. read more

Super disappointed in this place. Had heard good things about it so we were really excited to try it but when we got there it took them about ten minutes to come to our table and when they did it was some boy who came to tell us they weren't serving breakfast anymore even though they don't stop until 10:45 and then proceeded to tell us we also couldn't order lunch for another 30 minutes. They way he said it was as if we were supposed to know that we were supposed to sit there and twiddle our thumbs for 30 minutes. Spent way too much on a very very small and soggy sandwich and the soup of the day (tomato). Waited 15-20 minutes. Apparently they hadn't changed the sign from the day before and gave me a different soup. I politely brought it to their attention and agreed to just eat the one I had and was met with snarkiness and a "you get what you get" attitude. Way over priced for what you get. read more

How does this gem not have 5 stars? Saying that it's the best bakery in the upstate would be UNDERSELLING it. It's a true french bakery with the flavor and texture that you would be hard pressed to find a huge city like New York. Definitely try their almond cookies with drizzled chocolate (with a macaroon-like chewy center) or the chocolate puffs. And do not skip out on the raspberry muffins which have a crust of pure joy over a soft muffi with real fruit. read more

I understand the Cafe is under new management, and if our experience is an example, I strongly suggest that those individuals who had less than satisfactory experiences, give it another try. By far my favorite bakery ever! We anticipate their opening every Wednesday to swing by for a Pecan Crisp, Scone or even a Spinach Puff to hold on to for lunch! A group of 5 were in there the other day. We all had different breakfast items and most had special orders. They were all 100% correct and we got our meals in 9 minutes! I especially enjoyed my egg white omelet and was thrilled that I was able to get fruit with my breakfast. For our daughter's third birthday we went all out - or tried to. Most all was perfect EXCEPT THE CAKE. I met with the owner to discuss what my daughter had picked out and brought pictures to show the details. The owner made copies and I was asked to email these pictures to the bakery as well so that they could enlarge them and make sure that the colors were accurate. This was to be a three layer cake in the shape of a whimsical castle finished with bright fusia frosting and purple details. "It will be no problem to make and fun too," I was told. I was given a fair price and agreed to have them make the cake. The requested emails were sent by me as well as one asking that there be no writing on the cake (there had been discussion of putting my daughters name in the cake initially). The day of the party I arrive to pick up the cake and much to my surprise I was given a white castle cake that looked NOTHING LIKE THE PICTURES or anything else we discussed. The shape was wrong, the color was wrong, the frosting was fondant (which she tried to sell as an upgrade), there was writing on the cake and the detailing was HORRIBLE. It was...Ugly...no other way to say it. Put it this way - I was asked if I made it!!!!!!!!!!!!! I honestly feel that I could have done a better job - but I digress. When I asked the owner if she had received the emails I had sent she yes, but her husband had made the cake and had misunderstood her... WHAT????? I was never offered a discount - nor an apology. Guests, as well as Cinderella, were to be arriving at my house within 45 minutes so - someone helped me load the cake in my vehicle and I cried the entire way home. To top it all off - the ugly cake didn't even taste good and the fondant was greasy. I would dare to say we threw more than half of the cake away. Needless to say we have not been back. It's a shame because I love a good bakery! read more
