Nice little spot to enjoy a drink or a meal outdoors. The food is average but the charm of the place adds to the experience. We enjoyed a couple of glasses of Malbec and shared a fish sandwich. Monique and the staff were so pleasant and efficient - all their recommendations were perfect. We had the salad, tostone rellanos with shrimp and ropa viello with red sangria. Our main courses were ribeye, chicken Marsala with garlic mashed potato, and sautéed spinach. I had fettuccine with Alfredo sauce, asparagus, and chicken. The kids had spaghetti with meatballs - they split the serving and one portion was enough for both girls. Everything but the pasta was made in house - amazing! The portions were huge - enough to have leftovers!!! Unfortunately I didn't take pictures. We'll definitely be back. read more

The Village Chalet, sounds a lot nicer than what you may expect. By definition a chalet is a wooden house or cottage, typically in the Swiss Alps, this is no Swiss Alps and it is no fancy cabin overlooking The Alps, but it is a wooden-looking cabin-like restaurant. Not that everything has to be fancy, this place has character, the decor is very antique. The place feels old-timey which is cute but these reviews are very confusing to me. Did we go to the same place? I seriously had to exit my review and double-check the address? Maybe it was the day? I can give them the benefit of the doubt but there is nothing about this place that makes me want to try it again. The service was really just ok, we sat ourselves without any guidance from the host/server, which is fine, a lot of places at times are like this. Once I sat and got settled and figured out where to put the stroller I hear "oh no you can't sit there." I was confused. Why couldn't I sit in the most convenient seat for us that works with the stroller, even though you told me to sit myself and did not specify where, in fact, they said "sit anywhere" you wonder? Oh! Because someone had paperwork there and they were doing something. Someone that worked at the restaurant, couldn't just move their stuff? Ooookayy - so we move to another table, no big deal but definitely not as convenient or comfortable with a stroller. Had the hostess been attentive maybe she could have just let me know where to sit, but it was two in one deal. The Hostess was also the server...of all the tables. Inside & out. Service and experience always always suffers when this happens. Then there was the food, and again, I am confused by the reviews. It was not awful but there was nothing memorable about the food. We ordered a salad, shrimp stuffed tostones and the Sea Bass, while everything had good flavor and was cooked well, it just felt as if something fell flat, not good or bad - just flat. There wasn't anything special about this place. Not the service, not the food, nothing. The place has character - that is about it. If you are visiting Cauley Square and are so hungry you can not wait, or if you want to just check it out - I guess, just lower your expectations from the 5-star reviews, because this is definitely not a 5-star location. Next time we are in Cauley Square we will be eating at the other restaurant nearby, the Tea Room. read more

This place was an adorable lil hide away enchanted forest. Lived in this area almost 27 years and never knew this place existed. Felt a lil like cozy place in Coral Gables. The restaurant does look a little old but the food was yummy. Our waitress, Michelle was awesome. The music that Freddy Perez played was a nice touch for the evening.. The restaurant is small so I suggest you make reservations if you want to be seated inside. They accomodate you with outside seating. . Also you will smell like the food when you leave.. The main reason this place deserves 4 stars is because it is tucked away from anything and everything Miami. Whenever you feel like having an out-of-town experience but don't feel like driving more than 30 minutes to an hour (depending on where you live), Village Chalet should be at the top of your list. The Village Chalet is nestled in a giant canopy of trees and beautiful landscaping. It is one of the few little establishments that make up the quaint Cauley Square Historical Village, and it fits right into the scenery. It's got an "old south" feeling- almost as if you'd traveled back in time a hundred or so years to Savannah, GA. The chefs are friendly, and their food tastes deliciously homemade. I ordered the Chicken Marsala, which was accompanied with one of the most beautifully presented salads I've ever seen. They served the salad in a "bowl" made of cucumber slices. Their Chicken Marsala is delightful- made with freshly sliced mushrooms (not canned, like I've seen at some other restaurants), and perfectly grilled chicken. Neighboring the Marsala on the plate was an amazing heap of mashed potatoes loaded with creamy goodness. I'm sure it had a zillion calories, but it was bursting with flavor so it doesn't matter. So, so good. I'm so happy I discovered this place. The Tea Room at Cauley Square has a bit more publicity, but personally I think the food at Village Chalet is better. Village Chalet is nestled in a small corner of Cauley square and I was thrilled to see it was still open for business after seeing other shops closed due to lack of support. The food receives a 4 1/2 star. The menu offers a wide variety of food and a decent wine selection. I ordered a salad and my husband a gourmet style burger. The food was unexpectedly great. I will definitely come back to support them. The outside of the restaurant was quaint and rustic. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the restaurant looked a run down type of cozy. But when you walk into the restaurant and start examining details of the bar/kitchen area it is disappointing. There is chipped paint, tilted pictures, sparse looking dessert display, and a run down kitchen. The service was fine (star for that), but the food was mediocre. We had gone in for lunch and settled on sandwiches. They were plain, nothing special. My boyfriend also ordered a lemonade and we could tell it was powdered. The ketchup was prepackaged into like plastic cups with covers and salt/pepper had to be grabbed from another table. Knowing this, it makes me wonder if food is made fresh or coming out of a package. The sandwiches were about $10 in price and entrees about $20. I really expected more from this place especially because of the pricing. Unfortunately, I probably wouldn't recommend. read more

This is a very unique restaurant located in Cauley Square in South Dade. The place is quaint however it looks just a touch outdated. You can sit outside which is recommended on cooler days or opt for inside. I liked what I ordered it was a custom made vegetarian pasta dish and I went with my mom that had the scrimp linguini and she was very happy with it. Salad was nice and I enjoyed the quality of the bread that was brought out. Our server was very friendly and she was knowledgeable about portion sizes, etc. The creme brulee was very nice, it wasn't as sweet which is a plus in my book. Ice tea here is not recommended as it's very strong and cloudy. Certainly worth trying out if you are in the area, yes it's far if you are in central Miami. read more

We noticed the menu outside and thought the food sounded delicious. We entered the restaurant , for one the door was a bit difficult to open. It needed some work done. We get to our table, we were the only ones in there. As I'm sitting I look behind me at the window. On that window sill there's a half eaten lollipop that's just there with tiny ants just around it. The service was great though , the food DISGUSTING. Would never come back here , I rather stay at home and cook it myself. The chicken was just to thick , the breading was coming right off. Some pieces weren't all the way cooked. Just gross. I couldn't even finish my food. Took two or three bites and that's it. Not appetizing at all . Honestly I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. My in-laws actually we're considering going to dinner here one day and I stopped them before they stepped foot into that place. read more

I'm very surprised by the reviews that say food is mediocre. We ordered from the Miami Spice menu and everything we got was hot, fresh and delicious. We were served by the owner and she was so friendly, inviting and warm. We got delicious fresh garlic bread and a beautiful salad with delicious house made dressing. She was attentive and we never went without drinks or being checked on. The food was simply delicious. The mash potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. yuca fries were fresh and seemed home made as well. Churrasco steak was delicious, tender and fresh. Marinated perfectly and cooked exactly how I asked. We also got the salmon and it was delicious as well. For dessert we got tiramisu and tres leches and again ,delicious. I am giving this restaurant only one star and that star goes towards the service which was good - but overall my husband and I were very disappointed. We arrived for dinner at 7:15 pm after reading reviews about lovely outdoor dining with live music. Apparently the live music doesn't start until 8:30pm. The restaurant is very run down and the food was less than mediocre. My husband ordered the $22.00 ribeye which we sent back because it was tough and tasted like the freezer.
