Adorable cheese shop with some of the friendliest staff around! They are very knowledgeable about the cheese they sell and generous with samples too. I also love that they sell charcuterie and crackers and jams alongside the cheese. Prices are fairly reasonable and they have a great selection of local and international cheeses. I loved my visit here and will definitely stop by the next time I'm in town. There's plenty of street parking (and a lot around the corner) too. read more

After eating at a nearby restaurant my girlfriend and I went to the village cheese shop as a recommendation from someone we were sitting next to. Upon entering there were no other customers in the store. The store was neat and clean. A blonde woman standing at the back counter looked up from her phone at us and then went back to her phone. As another couple walked in someone else came out from the back and greeted the new couple. We worked our way back to the woman at the back counter and inquired about a cheese board. She told us we could order one and the amount of time it would take to have one made. We asked if they did cheese boards to sit and have to eat now, and I quote, "No we are not a cafe, we don't serve food in store like that". As we continued around the shop many more couples entered the store. We worked our way back around to the cheese counter to place our order. Once it was our turn the blonde woman, who originally snubbed us as we walked in, asked what we needed. As we started to order she asked us to hold on and called another girl from the back to continue helping us. The other girl was very friendly, and informational and even made some recommendations. We purchased a number of cheeses and other accoutrements. As we were checking out, a couple walked in and asked if they did fondue. The blonde woman was friendly and set them up at a table in the back to have fondue for 2. We proceeded to take our items and leave. If you like Brie you need to try the Truffle Brie! It is absolutely delicious! So much so that my girlfriend went back in to buy more for guests we were having over the next day. The cheese and the selection is great. Such a cute little shop! My friends and I decided to venture out here on a Saturday afternoon. We made reservations as we wanted to have lunch and not just shop. Our reservations were for 1230PM. When we arrived our table was ready for us. We were greeted, and sat promptly. We were seated in the corner by the back window. It was super cozy! So many choices on the menu! Cheese boards, sandwiches, fondue (cheese and chocolate), and more. Something for everyone! We went with Brie brûlée and a side of chorizo. So delicious and filling! Definitely more than enough for 3 people to share. Our waitress actually brought out a mini blow torch for the Brie brûlée!! So cool! It made the experience even better. The brie was absolutely delish! For the chorizo, I was expecting pieces of chorizo, but it was thin sliced instead. What a plesent surprise! So good and not too salty. Service was excellent. Our waitress continued to check on us to see if we were okay and if we needed anything. For the cheese board, chorizo, and a drink it only came to $40 including tax. Not bad at all! Very reasonable. After we were done with our meal we shopped a little bit. You can try ANY cheese before you buy it. So many cheeses to choose from! The man at the counter was so nice as well. Really loved their signature brie that they fold some extras into *nuts / berries).. it is $60 a lb so taste first. A few local cheeses also, saw one from Catapano Farm on the North Fork. Tried it and it was not bad and at least not generically made. The people here have always been welcoming and friendly. They have made recommendations of most popular cheeses, offered multiple tastings, and once opened the door while firmly saying they were closed.. and rang me up for a french baguette though firmly mentioning the registers closed. All with an earnest interest in the customers! The next woman ten minutes later didn't get in... but it was pushing it!. Go to this local place, and enjoy small business with small business charm, quality and a cool country attitude. On the north fork people expect a lot, but want the warm hospitality of small towns, and they get both right. A good number of basic tables are available in a light filled room for cheese tastings, and noshing for lunch is here too. A few diners were there almost each time... Every one we tasted we liked and picked up a quarter of pound each of 3 different cheeses. There is no minimum amount required to be purchased. Just show them how much you want and they will cut to size. Shop is clean and we'll organized. Each cheese is clearly marked by type, region and price. Let them make suggestions and they'll give you as many samples as you'd like. They have a few truffle cheeses most are awesome; some smokey funky blues, a Honey goat that will melt your brain as well as a lemon something that is like eating the most decadent cheesecake. She made the three of us rush out and I was so strongly rubbed the wrong way that I doubt I'll be spending my money here for a long long time. We randomly came here after checking Yelp reviews and were not disappointed (my aunt remembered a wine-infused cheese that she ate during a visit to a local winery, and we wanted to see if we could find it for purchase). We explained what we were looking for to the sales associate, and while she didn't have the exact cheese, she was happy to make an equally delicious recommendation. There is no minimum amount of cheese necessary for a purchase, which is great. There are also a lot of yummy goodies in there besides cheese - we picked up some local honey and Cinnamon Pear jam. There are also some beers and wines to match, although this is not a deep sampling of Long Island's offerings. When on Love Lane do what you love. This was an expensive day in Long Island. This was the second stop in a fun family day. The sun shining bright. The breeze like a gentle stroke on the face. This shop was quaint and I was craving charcuterie! There is outdoor seating as well as indoors but I felt it was a bit over priced. I expected more for the charcuterie plate I received. We got the Monger's plate which had staff picks. I did feel a little weird that I didn't know what type of cheese we'd receive. But they take into account what your favorite cheeses are and ask to note anything you consider a hard No in receiving. For $35 bucks I could've gotten a decent steak...maybe a lobster bake somewhere else. And I'm someone who buys really great cheese from Fresh Direct, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's so I know how expensive or inexpensive cheese and meats can be. This felt very overpriced. A few tiny pieces of apricots, prunes and dried figs. A tiny bundle of grapes. Thinly sliced green apple and some bread we're accompaniments. Me and my family went to Kontokosta winery first and decided to stop here between lunch/dinner for a small bite. The cheese on the plate was very small. If you're sharing the cheese plate among friends you'd probably easily spend $100 to be somewhat satisfied and that's unacceptable to me. I've traveled. And I've been to Europe. I've had some amazing meat and cheese. I've don't tasting throughout NYC and this doesn't cut it. The staff was friendly. A heartwarming find on Love Lane! Perfect for our second date. The staff are extremely helpful and sweet. You can try any (and I mean ANY!!!!) cheese at the counter while having pleasant conversation. It's also a cute spot for lunch. We had the Normandy Fondue and the Italy panini (substituted mozzarella for one of the amazing cheeses we tried). They were attentive and accommodating to allergies. I have nothing but love for The Village Cheese Shop on Love Lane in Mattituck! Every trip out to the north fork requires a stop here for me and my wife. The shop is located on a quaint tree lined street amongst an assortment of nice shops in the heart of the Long Island Wine Region We have been going here for many years and it's my favorite cheese shop. It is the bar I measure all others against. First I like the whole style of it as they have a cafe area with various regional cheese plates, fondue and local wines. The staff here is by far the friendliest, so helpful when talking cheeses. I love cheese but find it a bit intimidating when you first approach a massive wall of cheeses. They are so helpful, offering suggestions, samples and showing so much knowledge of the cheeses. I love when you describe a flavor you're looking for and their suggestion is spot on! I appreciate a fine triple creme brie or the heavenly bliss of Roquefort but growing up amongst the dairy farms of northern NY I always love a good sharp cheddar and they have a huge selection to choose from. In addition to a broad selection of cheeses, they also offer a line of pastas, extra virgin olive oils, vinegars and locally produced products. I have been to Murray's in the city, it was awesome, but I like the smaller more intimate style of The Village Cheese Shop as they have the time to spend with you, a superb selection of cheeses and make you feel like a regular from your very first visit. read more

Ohhhhh my goodness, the Village Cheese Shop. Cheeses crafted with care, creamy and crumbly, I wish I lived closer to sample more of their tasty wares. The cheeses are all labelled with details like the location, milk type, age, and a mini critique on what its like and how it is prepared. The staff is equally knowledgeable and cheese crazed, listening to your tastes and returning with suggestions and samples to tickle your tongue. Perry and I took a few ounces of the Triple cream Aged Gouda Morbier I am a fan of the creamy, less aged cheeses like Brie or goat's milk. The triple cream was like eating pure, delicious fat. It was decadent. It was sinful. It was messy. It was absolutely glorious. The Morbier was similarly tasty and creamy, but had a consistency closer to a melty mozz and was fabulous with the crackers we had. Perry enjoyed the aged gouda, eating the entire block single handedly and with abandon. If it interests you, there are about 10 seats in a sunroom if you want to enjoy on the spot. The also offer coffee and tea, bread and crackers, and cheese accessories. The store is rather stinky (in that cheesy way), so opting for a cheese tasting picnic is my recommended way to enjoy. read more

From when I first walked in there my g/f and I were greeted with someone behind the counter who would give us a sample of every single bit of cheese in there if we wanted (I tell ya there were lots of cheese). After sampling all sorts of cheeses for about 30 minutes we realized that right behind us we can sit down and go through a well organized menu with consist of wine, fondue, small cuts of meat and cheese samplers from all around the world. We decided to sit down and it was a good experience. Very cozy and quite place to just sit talk and snack.
