By default the best coffee shop in Oswego for lack of better choices. It certainly beats a corporate chain for sure. The Village Grind is where locals like to come to take care of boring things. Last time in one woman was being taught about investments and stock portfolios like she never heard of these before. They also have bagels and lots of other non food items like jewelry, soap, and whatever. Came in one morning just for coffee and a bagel. It seems kind of like a house. This probably was. It has the counter to order at. There's two places to go after this. One way has the general store with the things such as jewelry. They also sell soap, making an interesting but not as good as it sounds, smell combining coffee and soap. Going the other way you get to the lounge. This has a few comfortable chairs along with the harder wooden chairs and tables. I had a latte. It's $4 for a regular. They have non dairy milks and raw sugar. It was good even though it was small for the cost. There's not that much in the way of food. I had a banana nut bagel. It's $3.58 with a spread. They only have cream cheese though. It means they don't have any vegan friendly ones. This was okay on its own but it was kind of stale. Good coffee though it's small and expensive. It doesn't have much in the way of food. Had a relative who had moved out of town & suddenly moved back to Illinois. This location was kind of halfway between me and my relative. And we often meet for coffee, so I perused some reviews. This place looked good, and we tried it out today. What I like about it is, it's a little eclectic, a little off the beaten path. You walk in and there's a little order counter and you can go left or right after you get your order, if you go left ... whoops you're into another business. If you go right there's seating, and a room and then partway into that room, You make a left and there's another seating room. It kinda reminds me of a donut place in Joliet. The OLD Donut den (years back, before they moved into their current space )with its little rooms and nooks and crannies. Village grind has great service, very friendly baristas. A decent array of varied coffees, lattes, and the like. I think their star is their excellent selection of all homemade... Pastries, desserts, and yummy things. Again, all homemade. Prices are surprisingly affordable. This from a guy who is a known cheap SOB. My relative had the cherry cobbler pastry looking thing. And was overjoyed with it. I had the eclair cake and it was extremely yummy, and made my tummy so happy. My relative said he was extremely happy with the choice of coffee shop, and that we would be definitely meeting there again soon. iv been coming here for years, i got charged 15 dollars for one medium iced coffee. and one medium iced chai latte. nothing extra in them, not even whip cream or cinnamon. the chai was completely filled with ice, and for some reason they threw in "large flavor" into both drinks! even tho no one asked for anything extra. insane. i want to support small business but this is unaffordable. read more

I was in the area and had to drop off something at the post office. This was my first time in downtown Oswego and it was pretty nice, albeit small. I needed a caffeine boost and found The Village Grind within walking distance of the post office. The interior is really cool. Feels like an old house. Aside from coffee, they have cake, chips, and protein bars. They also have coffee beans you can dispense into bags for purchase. I ordered a cappuccino and a mocha moe. The milk foam on the capp was more on the flimsy side, not thick/dense how I like it. The mocha had decent flavor, but they use a chocolate powder instead of a syrup; I think a syrup would have provided a richer flavor. Not the best coffee I've had, but decent place if you need a drink. Good service and reasonable pricing. 3.5 stars. read more

I love this little coffee shop in Oswego. It reminds me of the comfort of home every time I go in. When you walk in the smell of fresh brewed coffee is the best. At the entrance of the shop, they sell some handmade jewelry, soaps and candle melts for the season. Inside it's so cozy to sit. There are several small rooms with tables in a rustic setting and all the decorations are super cute. It's a very warm atmosphere. They have different delicious healthy salads, sandwiches, smoothies in Summer and my favorite is watermelon. They change coffees of the day and my fav is French toast. Outside they have a few small tables where you can sit and take a walk downtown to the cute boutiques here. A nice day in downtown Oswego! I need to add the girls that work in the shop are so friendly and do an excellent job. I would highly recommend. read more

Didn't even listen waste of $5 never will I be back. 6/14 So I called them and told them about my issue and they were kind enough to issue a store credit to which I redeemed today. I went in and explained the type of drink I wanted and I was fortunate to have the owner present so she could learn and oversee the process. They made the drink and while not exactly a traditional Cortado I was happy that they were receptive to my wants and I was able to enjoy my morning drink :) read more

Their coffee is than the chains but it's very tight inside for the ordering area and seating. Hours have been limited due to the pandemic and it would be great if they could stay open a little later again. The menus are all over the place and it's more than a little confusing when you're trying to order with having some menus behind the counter and then another off to the side and it seems like some items aren't on the menu at all so if you're not a regular it's hard to understand all of what they have and their options. The staff and owners are nice but never seem what I would say is inviting. There are cute little tables with what I assume are items for sale from local vendors. I've had coffee here less than a dozen times because of the hours, small location, and street parking can be difficult. Like another reviewer mentioned it's the best little coffee shop in Oswego, by default. read more

I have been meaning to come here for a while and finally did this past weekend. This place is so cute and comforting. I do wish the food menu was easier to read/understand. They have food in a case but I don't recall seeing a menu. Most people were getting some of egg quiche that looked great but I had already ordered my drink. The Oswego farmers market was going on as well so it was packed. They have a few different seating areas as well as a screened in porch. Seats were comfortable and very nice touches of tables in the right places (ex. Right next to the couch). I will be coming back here for sure! read more

Upon entering, you encounter some locally made candles, honey, and other wonderful products. You then encounter the counter! You can order a very wide selection of coffee drinks, milk, soy, all available. Also presented are a wide variety of teas both hot and iced. And the food! From savories like chili and green pepper soup or salads and pot pies to sweets like stone fruit pie bars, hummingbird cake, or even a bagel with their many flavors of cream cheese. First, a cappuccino is never 16 ounces! That is a latte. Rude service, burnt and awful "cappuccino" i threw away after i tasted it. It was so hot it burned my mouth and was terrible! No foam at all, service was clueless! This spot needs less crap for sale and to actually learn how to make coffee drinks! Yuck! At least it was cheap. Baked goods looked nice but i watched a worker wipe nose and then cut a piece of sheet pie and serve it! Gross! Being how bad it was, I am not surprised the staff was shocked when I tipped them. Not much room to sit, so don't expect the same space a crappy franchise place would offer. Local coffee shops... one of my favorite things. These little gems are hard to come across, so I was happy to drive the 15 minutes to downtown Oswego to check out The Village Grind. I always check Yelp for details first, but it seems as though this time around I neglected to read the fact that they do not have WiFi. Which of course is a necessity for a work-remotely gal like myself. Luckily, I was able to use my phone as a personal hot spot to connect. The inside of this place is super cozy. Almost feels like you're hanging out at your Grandma's house (in a good way). They have plenty of coffee choices, and from what I saw others eating around noon, plenty of food options as well. I saw some delicious looking salads, chili, and event stuffed peppers. Will have to grab a bite next time I'm in! I ordered a 16 oz. hazelnut decaf coffee which cost me $2.12. Super cheap! I honestly didn't even need any milk or cream, because the flavored coffee was so good. The day I was in their credit card machine was down, but they were able to write down my info (which they promised would be shredded). If only I could get in the habit of carrying cash on me... The service was super friendly! I think the girls working behind the counter were college age students on Spring Break. They have a few different rooms with different types of tables for working, chatting, or hanging out; big, small, high top, and even couches in the back room. I'm looking forward to the weather getting a tad warmer so I can take advantage of their screened in porch and outdoor seats! read more

As often as I am there, it's past time to write an update review on Village Grind. In my book, it's still a 5 star operation for several reasons. 1. It's quaint and arguably has the most personality and unique style of all of the downtown Oswego businesses. I'd say without question, it's the busiest! 2. Jodi and her staff couldn't be friendlier and more willing to serve. I can honestly say of all the times I've been there (a couple dozen or more), I've never had an encounter that wasn't superb. 3. The coffee. The staff knows how to make a great cup of coffee, latte, or other drinks including iced or hot, coffee or teas. For such a small store, they offer quite the variety and it's all high quality! 4. Pastries. I confess I've managed to steer clear of them (as tough as that is), they look delicious and often when I am there customers are ordering them so I know they are good. They also offer a Gelato stand during the summer/fall months. 5. The atmosphere. It's cozy and there isn't even a hint of "national chain" to the place. They have the building divided up into cozy rooms where you have a choice of sitting at conventional table and chairs or go further back into another room and lounge on their huge corner sectional. During the warm weather months, they even offer a screen-in patio where you can enjoy your drink of choice and outdoor patio seating in front of the store. 6. Gifts and Jewelry are also offered there to complete the experience. 7. Starting in June and running throughout the summer months, they also offer a Farmer's Market in their parking lot behind the store when you can check out all of the great produce and other items grown and made locally. Village Grind gets the maximum out of a minimal space and it is probably my favorite business in Oswego. I can't recommend them too much. Stop in and see for yourself! read more

I stumbled across this coffee shop on accident. I was having a birthday party for my daughter at an art studio near by. I arrived a bit early for my party so I looked to Yelp to find a coffee shop near by. It pointed me in the direction of this amazing place. We walked in and I immediately fell in love with this place! It smelled fabulous, it isn't your cookie cutter coffee shop, it felt like I was in a little village somewhere not in Oswego. I noticed that they have pastries to sell and a variety of coffee flavors to try. I went with a flavor from their "New Years" menu, a strawberry covered chocolate mocha. After I placed my order I walked into their main room and found it to be just absolutely adorable, cozy, different and I felt right at home. There are tables, small ones, big ones, high tops, and a cozy couch. It was very bright inside thanks to the window. We sat on the couch and enjoyed our delicious hot beverage on such a cold blustery day. I was so happy that I found this place. I would normally not be out in that area but I liked the shop so much that I most certainly be back. They have outdoor seating so this might be a nice place to sit on a warm day too. What a refreshing place to have a great cup of coffee at. If you are in the area you have to check them out. read more
