My wife and I have been coming to Long Pond every summer for 44 years, first as renters, then owners. The Village Inn was a staple for many of those years. The vicissitudes of the market and Covid 19 clearly took a toll on the Inn.. We dined there tonight and had as good of a meal and experience as ever, I'm happy to report! Been coming to this place for over 40 years and now it's up for sale. For the last 20 years the food has been average at best and still a high price. It's a seasonal business but it's clear the past several owners don't have the heart to maintain this beautiful property. This business has continued to mistreat customers, employees and provide poor service and meals based on FB discussions. An overwhelming amount of complaints are shared by different people on FB. I worry people who visit our beautiful town with so many other respectful great businesses will go to this restaurant unwittingly not knowing it is NOT a reflection of all the other businesses here that go out of their way for the community and tourist to create a welcome environment. We went a second time and waited an hour and 10 mins before being approached by a waitress, and watched a couple walk out. The experience went downhill from there. read more

I absolutely never do this and have tried to take every other avenue before I put a small local business on blast, but at this point I don't know what else to do. Ben and I booked the Village Inn in Belgrade for our wedding night, September 27. My mom made the booking in person and also secretly upgraded us to the honeymoon package. My mother and the woman at the desk explicitly discussed that since we would be at our wedding reception, we would be arriving very late, past the usual lobby time. The woman said they would leave a note in the lobby with our key and room number for us to find. On our wedding night, we were driven to the Village Inn to find that the front door was locked and there was no note on the door or anywhere to be found. We had no way of accessing the facility or finding out what room we were supposed to be in. At midnight on our wedding night, my husband had to call around to find us a new place to stay. We were luckily able to find a room, and spent our wedding night in a motel overlooking I-95. My husband and I had a wonderful wedding and a sense of humor about what happened. I just wanted to connect with the Village Inn to understand what went wrong, if the miscommunication was on our end (had we missed the note in the dark?), and see if we could get our money back for a hotel room we didn't get to use. This is where my frustration really begins. Mix ups happen, but it has been over two months and the Village Inn has been literally UNREACHABLE. No one answers the phone, and between my mother and I we have left at least three voicemails. I have sent an email, as well as a direct Facebook message, which I can see that they read but did not respond to. I am completely open to hearing their side of the story, and in no way wanted to make this a public mess, but it is absolutely insane that I have been unable to get any response from this business for two entire months while they've continued to post on their social media and host events. read more

Vintage gem with a twist, famous flambeed duck 10/10 with views of the lake was outstanding and their seasonal cocktail selection (bourbon cherry slushie omg!) with a small but solid wine list was surprisingly on point! I would just like to reply to a specific review from "Tim G" about the dog incident that was described. I have NEVER written a review but I cannot stay silent and let this hyperbolic, in-accurate, and quite frankly ludicrous statement go unchallenged. I happened to be sitting in close proximity to the incident and saw the owner dock her boat into her restaurant and immediately greet and mingle with the costumers. It was pure and genuine. I then saw her dogs greet a costumers dog (in a well-advertised outdoor dog friendly restaurant) and the dogs took a disliking to one another by simply growling at one another. The costumer told an employee, who then told the owner, who then got the dog and brought it inside. If you didn't enjoy the food and dining experience that's one thing- but to make ignorant and false claims on someone's character is unacceptable. I have spent many summers nights with my family in Belgrade dinning at the village inn and I plan on spending many more. Watching my children and their children dance on the lawn to live music while eating decadent food on the waterfront is what makes the Village inn magical. I love the old lake decor and camp charm of this restaurant and we love to give them our business. I am sad for my kids they did away with the duck nuggets, that was a favorite. We went over the weekend and had a nice meal, I really wish they had more vegetarian/vegan options or at least sides. My daughter loved her salmon and of course my husband had the duck, hard to eat but he said it was good. It was nice to get the portobello mushroom burger special, just like I said more creative vegetarian options would be appreciated. Our server was amazing, my husbands drink took a little bit but no big deal, she took it off without us even mentioning it, just excellent service. After18 holes at Belgrade Lake Golf Club we made our annual visit to the Village Inn & Tavern (been going for 15+ years). Was pleasantly surprised to find that the new chef's apps and entrees were absolutely incredible. Reminiscent of years ago. Was told there was a new owner and chef. Pretty obvious they both are making a huge difference. Strongly recommend if you're in the Belgrade area you try it out, especially if you are a duck lover. read more

I went a few weeks ago...pretty on the outside...Been coming here for years. I had the tuna and my mother had the short rib over potatoes. The prices are outrageous for off season...the food came out cold. We had no bread, we had to ask. 9 dollars for 5 ounces of wine? Crazy! When I tried to flag my waitress down about the temperature of our meals, she seemed very frazzled. My mother had to use the bathroom downstairs because the one on the first floor was out of order...bizarre. Is that even legal? Aren't restaurants supposed to have first floor bathrooms?When she was downstairs she said she saw dog poop. There was a musty smell and water on the floor. Sure enough when I went down I saw and smelled both. I've read the reviews and I noticed that's a common occurrence. Probably the same dog that pooped outside?? Also I noticed they are on a boil water order, the sign was in the window...are they boiling pasta in bad water? Potatoes? Washing veggies in dirty water? Washing their hands in bad water? It did not seem as nice as it used to be. Highly disappointed. It does not give very much to offer anymore unfortunately. read more

We had the pleasure of staying at the Village Inn this past week. I was greeted by Cheryl Lynn a very sweet young lady and welcoming. We stayed in room 4 lakeside (dog friendly). The room was very clean. A bit small but was sufficient for 1 evening. My only recommendation would be put some shades in the windows for privacy. If you have a dog that likes the water the backside of the Inn has walk-in to the lake so my puppy had a blast too! They also offer dog-friendly outdoor seating. We had dinner there as well. Walt was our server and he was FANTASTIC! He made the experience a 5! We were there on a Tuesday so the menu was limited to lobstah bake style. If you have the famous duck in mind that is served Wed-Sat. The lobstah roll was excellent! Large portion of lobstah and limited mayo the way it should be! The roasted parsley potatoes with my steamed lobstah was delicious. The lobstah tender and sweet. We also tried the Mediterranean olives for an app which was fantastic! If your golfing @BelgradeLakesGolfClub this is a great place to stay. It is within minutes of the golf course. Best to look elsewhere. The main lobby area is full of charm, but that's where the good stuff ends at the Village Inn and Tavern. The rooms are outdated, poorly equipped and depressing. There's only so many times you can use the word 'quaint' before you realize it's not - it's just inconvenient. Tavern? Really? The food was below average overall. We only ate at the restaurant once during our stay as it was not worth coming back for. We found the owner/manager to be an unpleasant person. Her vibe infected the whole place. The highlight of the stay was discovering Peninsula Park, a short walk away, with a coffee and home-made Day's donut, that quiet time overlooking Long Pond in the morning was a real treat. read more

In addition, the owners unleased dogs created a bit of stir during dinner service causing an even less pleasant dining experience. Came here the past weekend for a bachelor party dinner. The staff was incredibly accomodating of our large party - setting up a beautiful private room upstairs with appetizers and a charcueterie board. We were there the other night, the beginning of the July 4th weekend. I've never had a worse experience in a restaurant! I sent them an email telling them that and have yet to hear from them. That tells me they don't care. If you know this place it's all about the duck. We'll here we are July 4th weekend and they were out of duck. BTW they were out of bread also. When i called on relatively short notice i was happy to find an available room, however, the stay was a little more challenging. When we arrived it was assumed we knew their routine, leaving rooms open with keys in the door for arriving guests, the staff seemed confused when i asked which room was mine and where i could find it. The room was clean and obviously in the throws of being updated, it appeared freshly painted... the evidence; the smoke detector was found in a dresser drawer and it's wires left hanging out of the ceiling, one of the curtain rods was held up with cup hooks (which gave out in the middle of the night, curtains and rod crashing to the floor), the bathroom curtain had not been put up at all (the window is directly next to the toilet, so not only can people see you taking care if business but you are able to easily flash your wears to whomever passes by, thank goodness it was a second floor room), the ac was quite small, struggling to maintain a cool temperature in the room, the beds were comfortable but seemed old, there was no place to hang anything... A towel to dry, a dress or shirt, no closet or hooks to be found. Also; no housekeeping service during our stay and wifi was almost no existent. The in room coffee was too strong and frankly a pain in the neck to make, the local coffee shops do not open until 7 and 8. Again, the rooms were clean, the staff was pleasant and seemed genuinely concerned about the state of the curtains but offered no way to fix it and no offered to have the owner manager contact us. It seems the Village Inn is riding the coats tails of its former reputation, it was not horrible but just missed the mark at every turn. I will say the we did not dine at the Inn, we did have desserts one evening. The desserts were very good. Overall the experience was disappointing. read more

We returned to give them another try. I really wanted to up the star rating but in all honesty cannot. We sat in the tavern on a hot and busy evening. The atmosphere down there is terrific with windows open and live music from lawn audible. Service was again very good considering the crowd. However, while the duck was marginally larger and moist the extra crispy request again did not work and the mash again lacking said garlic. Beans were good. The biggest reason I cannot bump up my rating is the insulting response by the owners to my first review. It was like your new cabinets falling down and the contractor saying "that's how I always do it." Really? Come on, if people are complaining about the food all of a sudden then it absolutely does not matter how it was done for decades! There is something that needs fixing. A simple apology is more appropriate, not a defensive diatribe. Note: This is not a downgrade. Our culinary experience was similar. Rating remains the same. read more

I live in the area and this is the restaurant my husband and I usually go to when we decide to dine out. We had a wonderful meal earlier this month at the Sunday Drunken Goat Tavern (April '24) and I loved one of the new additions to the menu - the anchovy toast. It was delicious! My main course was one of my favorites - the roasted duck with black cherry sauce. Soooo good. And then, for dessert, I had the flourless chocolate torte topped with special whipped cream - which redefines "divine decadence"!! my experience with co-owner, Kate Beales was one that showed her to be an unkind, ignorant, belligerent and incapable manager who should not be interacting with the public or supervising people. According to TripAdvisor and Apple, they are restaurant is open until 9 PM. I arrived at 7 PM for a 7 PM reservation, had a drink and waited for my friend to arrive. My friend was running late, and the waitress, who was very kind, told me that if need be, we could stay until 9:30 PM to finish our meal, if she ran too late. At about 845 p.m, when my friend still hadn't arrived but after I had already put $150 order in which was in the warmer waiting for my friend to arrive, Kate Beals overheard me talking to my friend on the phone saying that she would not arrive for another 10 or 15 minutes. Kate comes out of nowhere and interrupt me in the middle of a conversation on the phone with my friend tells me in a rather unprofessional manner "that's not gonna work, man. We're gonna need you out by nine." This is after I had given the waitress a $50 cash tip for offering to stay as late as 930 while I waited for my friend to arrive, as well as giving a $20 tip to the cook for the same reason, and even though I hadn't even received my meal, co-owner, Kate Beales had the waitress put a $50 half dock, a $50 filet mignon and a salad on the table, and then basically told me that I had eight minutes to eat it. That the first interaction that I had with her, which head she just left it at that would have resulted in my being very upset, but at least I would have been able to eat my meal in peace. Not wanting to make further issue caused by case, unprofessional behavior, because I really just wanted special night for my friend who had been working all week and was driving a pretty long way to meet me, but ended up getting lost in the middle of nowhere in Central Maine, not that Kate had any empathy, for that fact, whatsoever, I agreed to eat the steak and have the duck boxed up to go. But if being given a $50 steak and eight minutes to eat it wasn't bad enough, Kate, basically insulted, harassed, and accused me of untrue things and said untrue things to the point that I had to put my fork and knife down and just leave. For example, she kept telling me that I was keeping them two hours past closing time by arriving at 7 PM and staying until 9 PM. and, when I told her that it said online that they were open until 9 PM, she told me that was not true and that nowhere online did it say that. and, I actually have that on video because her behavior was so inappropriate that in the middle of my two minute meal, I actually had to take out my iPhone and start recording it. It was that unbelievable. but in the ultimate display of selfishness and uncaring behavior, Kate made her cool return the $20 tip that I had given him, and she made the waitress return the $50 tip. And, I have it on camera where the waitress gives me the $50 bill back, I tell her to keep it, and the waitress tells me to leave it in the folder. But, when I left the restaurant to go out to my car, which was before 9 PM, the cook followed me out and gave me the $50 bill back. And, this is a young waitress, who is also a mother working on tips. So, if you are thinking about patronizing this restaurant or inn, you might want to consider that this is the type of person who you're giving your business to. read more

My summer doesn't begin until I have the roasted duck with Blueberry sauce. The duck comes with mashed potatoes and green beans, cooked to perfection. You can also get stuffing if you like. My nephew got a burger on a gluten free bun with chips. He loved it. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The duck had a crispy crunchy skin with tender meat. My shrimp cocktail was delicious! It had cocktail sauce with what I think is Russian dressing swirled in. I've never had that mix before. Delish! My husband got a massive wedge salad with all the fix-ins . My favorite drink is their signature "Blue Loon." Refreshing and Such a nice family run restaurant right on the lake with great views of Great Pond. Definitely check them out! Please support local restaurants and businesses. (Very clean establishment with spacing for indoor and outdoor seating during the pandemic.) read more

My best friend and I just took a road trip to Maine and we stayed at this delightful Inn for a long weekend. We really wanted that Inn experience rather than a hotel, and this place was wonderful ! The location and setting cannot be beat, it is sandwiched between 2 lakes in a quaint town with a few shops. We stayed in Room 7, recently painted, new carpet, comfy new couch and armchair in a cozy living room. We had 2 bedrooms with Queen sized beds, plenty of pillows and nice linens. The beds were very comfortable. The small bathroom has a full size tub and shower and came with ample towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. I loved the window box and flowers off the bathroom. Breakfast is help yourself in a room on the lower level, lots of coffee, fresh fruit, pastries, cereals and we loved the hard boiled eggs. We bought the food back to our room which saved time getting out the door. The Tavern is beautiful, it runs along the edge of the lake with lovely views and they offer inside or outside dining. We ate 2 dinners during our stay and the food was excellent. We had to have the duck which was a good portion and delish ! We also tried the rack of lamb, tuna appetiser, Caesar salad and the crab cake. All were delicious and beautifully presented. We dined outside on Sunday night and were entertained by a 3 person band with a female singer, which we enjoyed. This is obviously the place to go on Sunday night as the place was packed. Some customers came by small boats and moored in slips on the edge of the lake and were eating dinner from the tavern aboard their boats while listening to the music. We met Heather, one of the owners earlier in the day when we asked if we could use their kayaks on the pond. Heather got us all set up with life jackets and some direction on where to go. She was so friendly and helpful. We had an awesome time kayaking on the lake, we found so many beautiful water lilies and the scenery was gorgeous. This is where they had filmed the movie "on Golden Pond" We later saw Heather in the evening along with Kate, the other owner. She told us they had bought the Inn 4 years ago and had worked hard to expand the tavern and upgrade the rooms. They have done an amazing job. We complimented her on her staff, everyone was super friendly and by the end of our trip we felt sad to leave! We really got the feeling that the staff loves to work for these 2 women. We were in town to pick up my son from a music camp in a nearby town so we spent 3 nights at the Inn. I will definitely book for next year and highly recommend it! read more

We were seated with four other couples, and we informed the waitress of who was paired with whom. When we inquired about a vegan or vegetarian option, she was uncertain if they had one, despite their website claiming such options. One of our party received his meal long after the rest of us, having to wait while we were nearly finished. A drink that was ordered and charged for never arrived. Their signature dish, the duck, was terribly dry; mine resembled jerky, and it was unanimously deemed the driest at the table, although others who ordered it also found their duck overcooked. The glaze was merely jelly slopped on top. The stuffing, served cold and log-shaped on a separate plate, was unappealing at best. The potatoes were lukewarm, and even when butter was eventually provided, it wouldn't melt. The green beans were almost raw, not roasted as they should be. For the price of nearly $30 for a quarter and $50 for a half, one would expect an exceptional meal, which this was not. My spouse's "hamburger" was undercooked, with lettuce shredded across the plate rather than neatly atop the burger, and the fries were cold. Our experience seemed consistent with the others, except the Deep-Fried fish, which was "pretty good". The bill, undivided and with an announcement that it couldn't be split, left six couples to sort out their shares. It was a frustrating end to a thoroughly disappointing dining experience. If a chef confidently serves such duck, they might need to revisit culinary school to relearn proper duck preparation. Far from impressed. Buyer Beware: A reservation confirmed with a credit card 6 months in advance means nothing to the owners of this inn. I called a week before our stay to be sure we were all set with our early check-in and I was told we were all good. We arrive at the appointed day and time and no one was there . The owner shows up 45 min. later and says "I have no room for you, this other group bought out the whole place and one of my high-school employees should have called you 2 weeks ago". The owner showed absolutely no remorse, no integrity, and no empathy to the fact that we drove 4 hours to be guests at a wedding a they CANCELLED our reservation without telling us. I had my bachelorette party dinner at the Village Inn on Saturday night and it could not have been more perfect!  The entire staff was so friendly to us, and made us feel so welcome. Josh was our server and gave us exceptional friendly service! There were a lot of dietary restrictions in my group, and he helped to make sure everyone was accommodated. When we asked if we could play music, they immediately found a speaker for us which was incredible! Our meals were exceptional and I am so grateful that everyone there made it so memorable for me! The atmosphere was really nice. The food is bad. The famous roast duck was OK but the side sauce was clearly from a jar. This was a theme as the Meze platter seemed scooped out of store bought containers and the pita bread was cold and stale. The shishito peppers were slimy and not charred, as if the cook wasn't familiar with the intent of the recipe. The pickled green beans were so drenched in vinegar that no one had more than one bite. Just had dinner here and it was thee worst experience we've ever had. For starters we were told we could sit downstairs. It took a very long time before a waitress acknowledged us. When our food finally came, they brought me the wrong dish so I had to wait while they made up what I actually ordered. Meanwhile, my friends meal got cold. As we sat there waiting for them to cook what I ordered, I noticed an odor that smelled like dog feces. I looked around and discovered that there was dog feces in the form of diarrhea on the area rug not far from our table. We brought it to the waitress's attention and she blew it off as being mud. We asked to be moved upstairs. She finally took my friends meal and put it in the warmer while my meal was still being prepared. The waitress told us my meal would be comped. When she brought the check, they charged us for both meals which we asked to talk to the manager about. Amanda came and started arguing with us and made countless excuses as to why there was dog feces in the restaurant and about the wrong dish they prepared for me. Her rudeness and argumentative demeanor was totally unacceptable and she was way out of line. We addressed the dog feces and she said that someone who was staying at their inn had a dog - and that's all she said about that. She finally left saying she was going to see what she could do about our $96 bill for two meals and a bowl of soup. Awhile later, Kate came out and we had to retell the whole story. She was more sensible and less defensive than Amanda and seemed more empathic about what had happened. We left never to return again. Dogs in a restaurant is a health code violation but both Amanda and Kate didn't really seem to be too concerned about the fact that there was a big pile of dog feces on the carpet of their restaurant where people go there to eat. read more
