On October 18, 2025 and November 15, 2025, a women led business called suis had their pop-up at The Village PVD. The first time I randomly came across the pop-up sign outside and couldn't resist not going in and checking it out. After that, I started to follow them on instagram, @suis.ri. suis offers limited quantities of roll cakes, mini cake boxes, shio pan, choux, and beverages. I've had their jasmine milk matcha and the salted cookie butter matcha. Both drinks are DELICIOUS! The jasmine smell and flavor really comes through and I've gotten it both times I've visited the pop-up. The salted cookie butter matcha is a must get if you like/love speculoos. I've also tried the dubai chocolate tiramisu, biscoff cookie tiramisu, and mango coconut sticky rice mini cake box. They're all SOOOO good and packed with flavors!!! I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order from suis. On pop-up days, suis usually offers a free item with purchase for the first 12 customers so get in line early. It is definitely worth the wait! All the items are limited quantities so they do run out. Be sure to get there early and prepare to queue up. Service was excellent! The staff member (I can't remember his name) was super helpful and even let us taste the jallof rice and told us about the different options and make lots of recommendations to help us choose what to try our first time. I loved the jallof rice sample but decided to try the egusi stew with tilapia. It was very flavorful with a fair amount of spice. The fufu was really good and I enjoyed the red sauce that topped the entire dish. The egusi stew itself had a pretty strong shellfish flavor (from crawfish and I think something else). It wasn't my favorite, but I'm glad I tried it. I think next time I would definitely get the jallof rice :) read more

We came around dinner time on a Saturday and there were no customers sitting there but there were a few take out orders. The entrance is through the Citizens Bank ATM entrance. The staff was great - loved the service. The food looked like it had been sitting in the buffet for a while though. Decided to try a few sides. The beef skewers were tender and delicious. Paired well with the plantains, which were a bit on the sweet side. The meat pies were my least favorite. Probably better to go there earlier in the day when the food is more fresh. Parking tip: we found street parking not far from the restaurant, however a city worker told us that the meters are free on weekends, even though it says you should pay on Sat. Apparently the meter maids don't check on Saturdays. read more

Atmosphere: 5 The entrance to the restaurant is actually inside the Citizen Bank door on the left. The restaurant is spacious and the menu is on screens over the counter. The staff is super friendly and laid back. It was my first time having Nigerian food, and he was completely non-judgey and answered all my questions. Portion: 5 I ordered the Efro Riro spinach stew and it was way more than enough for me. I had the stew with fish and was pleasantly surprised at how much spinach was underneath the fish! We were also provided a pouch of potato that had a similar texture to mochi. Flavors: 5 The food was super delicious! I felt like I was over at someone's home eating a home cooked meal! It wasn't too salty, super flavorful, and complex. I also ordered the pepper soup (which was just as delicious and full of flavor), and had the ginger tea. I love that the flavors seem authentic and didn't seem to have been "altered" to gear to American taste buds. I wish we had a restaurant like this near me. I'd go there all the time! The food is delicious. Highly recommend coming here. For my first time trying Nigerian cuisine, I was super happy with the experience and food. I used to work with Nigerians who would make some really excellent Nigerian food. I left that job and was really hoping the Village would fulfill my Nigerian food cravings. Sadly, it did not. While the restaurant is beautiful and the staff are friendly the food is just not up to par. We have been there on numerous occasions and have had great interactions with the staff but the food is consistently dry. I'm not sure if the proteins have been sitting on the hot plates for too long but on numerous occasions they've been very hard to chew. I love fried plantains but these have been exceptionally oily and way too sweet. The rice is good but lacks flavor and heat. It would be great to see some veggies in the rice going forward. It also depends on who's working as to how big the portion sizes are and for the price it can often be not worth it. I will say that the red sauce is good though. Overall, this restaurant earned a two for the consistently nice staff and atmosphere but I can't give anything higher due to the lackluster food. read more

Great place, I cannot say enough! The food and drinks were delicious and the staff was so nice. They took the time to explain each dish to us and gave us great recommendations. We came here to try fufu but went away loving everything! Their zobo drink was especially delicious! The restaurant is in the middle of providence with a very cute ambiance. This is a great place to stop for lunch and you can walk and enjoy the town. This place is definitely worth it! read more

The food was absolutely Trash! My son and I decided to bring his Nigerian father here for his B'day. This was positively the worst Nigerian food any of us ever had. First of all, it was swimming in oil. It's like the kid realized he didn't have enough product to serve us so he decided to make up the difference with oil. Secondly, the food was served cold! The tall boy tending the place (alone) simply ran our food through the microwave for 20 seconds and placed it on the table with pride. Third, the pounded yam had the texture of mashed potatoes. E. has made swallow w/ potato flakes many times. But you could never mistake his for mashed potatoes because it was smooth, firm & hearty. Fourth, We were charged $17 for each of the oil soaked bowls. This place has no business passing itself off as a Nigerian restaurant. I would give it a zero if I could. read more

I have to give it two stars only because the staff up front was nice but in all seriousness, who are y'all catering to? Definitely not Authentic West African food lovers. The food I ordered taste like the most watered down, non ethnic, salt & pepper only, wanna be uptown people pleasing African food I ever tasted. I never knew you could take the Africa out of African food.. Please give people Authentic African food. I guess this is my fault. I'm Nigerian and have been desperate for Nigerian food. I previously ordered from The Village's other branch only to get inedible results. I shouldn't have given this business a second chance, but I really want to find a Nigerian restaurant to frequent. I decided to see if this branch was different. I ordered pepper soup for $10, which was not offered at the other branch. Out of alllll the pepper soups I've had in my life between the US and Nigeria (each with their own personality but still pepper soup), this overpriced, $0.50 worth of nonsense is the worst I've ever had. Strange flavor. Unsalted meat. For $10 I was given 1 common measuring cup of watery random soup. Photo attached. I ordered meat pie. There was absolutely zero taste from the meat. Never, ever, ever have I bit into a meat pie and had to chew for this long. I have eaten literally hundreds of meat pies. Even if one tasted less than average, the pastry has never nearly choked me. Until this one. I didn't know it was possible to make a meat pie so severely dry and tough but The Village teaches me there's a first time for everything. The other branch sold my favorite snack, puff puff, and it was surprisingly good. I decided to order puff puff here so that I'd at least enjoy that; what I got was stale on the outside and RAW in the center. Wet dough. Photo attached. I wish I were exaggerating at any point in this review. I do not know where this restaurant's owner was born but it's clear they don't eat Nigerian food. Delicious food and friendly service. Very clean and cute dining area. We got jollof rice with fish, spinach, and plantains ($15) and red okra stew with fufu ($15) and two drinks from the fridge, totaling about $34 before tax. Portions were generous for dining in, and we left very full and happy. A note about cost, since some reviews mention it: price as marked -- if you pay cash. There is a 4% fee for paying with card. There's a Citizens ATM at the building entrance, so that shouldn't be a problem for most people. read more

Great spot for Nigerian food. They have another location in Pawtucket. Tried the lunch special which was Jollof Rice with spinach, plantains and fried chicken along with the Egusi stew with tilapia and the pounded yam. Everything tasted delish. The Jollof rice was flavorful, and had very good flavors. The Egusi stew tasted excellent, though bit oily and went very well with the fufu. Lunch meals come with a drink. Overall good experience. In the heart of downtown Providence, my daughter and I were casually strolling outside of our hotel exploring and stumbled across this spot. We decided to check it out and we were greeted by super friendly staff! Big smiles and a warm welcome! We didn't know what to order and the gentleman was super helpful. We tried the Jollof Rice Meal with goat and spinach. We also tried the Puff Puff which reminded me of a Zeppole. Everything was delicious! I would for sure recommend! read more

Ordered the Rice Jollaf goat meal with a meat pie. The meat pie was nice but hardly had any meat and just tasted like pastry. The goat was inedible. I got 2 chunks of meat and it was mostly bone and fat. The meat on there was chewy and impossible to eat. A dog might like it but I did not. The rice was edible and had nice spicy sauce over it. Having said that, it was way overpriced. I got a pelligrino with the meal and it was $24. Skip this one. read more

We had a wonderful lunch at Village PVD. Being unfamiliar with Nigerian food, we asked the counter staff for advice, and he was very nice and helpful. He steered us toward the egusi stew and Jollof rice, both of which we loved. For each dish, we chose a protein. Among the protein choices, which included beef and goat, there were two types of fish. The helpful employee warned us one fish was boney, but the tilapia was not. We got the bony fish anyway because it looked good. It was delicious. I thought it was worth dealing with the bones, but my husband found them stressful and would have preferred the ease of the tilapia. We both loved the goat we chose to accompany the Jollof rice. We also liked the red pepper sauce that was on each dish - it was spicy but comfortably so. The fried plantain that accompanied each dish was terrific. We had a nice chat with the very friendly and interesting owner who generously shared his secret for perfect fried plantain. The restaurant is attractive and has a very clean, contemporary look with high ceilings, white walls, and a couple of African paintings. We enjoyed watching the activity of downtown Providence from the window seats. We only regret that we live too far from Providence that we can't become regulars, but we look forward to returning during our next trip to Providence! read more

I needed a new lunch place and hopped on Yelp today. Wow! This place is amazing. I got the Lunch special, It's was Chicken over flavor rich rice, a side of spinach and plantains. The chicken is cray tender and the flavors all work together. The rice has a tomato based sauce with just the right level of heat. the plantains are crispy and the spinach is cooked with onions and spices. I had to take the order to go but seating great and will be back for dinner very soon! read more

I had never tried Nigerian food before, so I was happily introduced to it through a takeout order here! I had the Jollof rice meal with chicken and plantains, and my friend had the spicy stew version with beef and plantains. The chicken was so deliciously tender, and the rice nicely coated with yummy red sauce. We also tried the puff puff donuts which were great-- not overly sweet, yet addictive. The restaurant is bright with natural light and the smells of yummy food cooking. I definitely recommend stopping in. read more

I have not been venturing far from my office for lunch since the pandemic. I'm glad I did today. The food is excellent - a lot of flavors that combine for a truly great meal. The lunch menu is a deal - plenty of food plus a drink for $8. (But I would recommend it a 2x the price.) Staff is personable and attentive. I'm looking forward to going back. read more

Stumbled upon this Nigerian place while looking up lunch specials in Providence. There are a lot of basic sandwich and salad shops, so I love that you can get something a little different. To enter, go in through the Citizens Bank entrance and turn left. Got the jollof rice dish. Lunch special is $8.60 (bring cash! They take card but it's 4% discount for cash). You can get jollof, designer stew, or egusi, but there are other dishes available too. I don't know if all the meats they listed on the menu are available, but I got jollof with chicken. Comes with a bottle of water or can of soda. While the portions aren't super huge, the food is filling and most importantly, extremely flavorful! Didn't know I could get this level of spice in PVD. In addition, everything is served with a smile and the Afrobeats playlist is immaculate. Stop in and support this local business! I find it very challenging to leave with an order that matches what it posted. The food is tasty and the staff are lovely. However, it's exceptionally frustrating to be told at checkout that the meal you ordered is significantly more expensive than posted! Today I ordered the Egusi & fufu lunch special (which is posted on a large sign outside) however only after I received my bill did she inform me that there is no egusi lunch special? Only Jollof rice? What is happening? Why do I always leave paying wayyy too much for this food? read more

You must try the fish rolls. Be prepared for a lot of flavor on all dishes. Some were a little on the spicy side. I opted for a little of everything. Yum yum. read more
