Tried Tribos for first time; ordered chicken (medium) and a side of veggies. The menu has a lot of options and took a while to decide. I was keeping it "healthy" but there were so many other tempting things i want to go back to have. The chicken was very flavorful, not dry but spicy! I probably will ask for mild next time but it was still great. Service was fast, went on a sat afternoon and there weren't a lot of people there. The server was friendly and patient. I was excited to find this spot because I do love Nando's in the UK. For those not familiar with Peri Peri chicken, its a South African sort of bbq and a spicy pepper sauce that is what to Europeans as Chipotle is to Americans. (aka ... they can't get enough of it.) Unfortunately, my hopes and dreams of a Nando's replacement in the US were dashed when I ordered here and a tiny, dry and bland feast awaited me. First of all, they offer hot, medium and mild. We ordered medium and mild. The mild was basically naked ... if there was any sauce, a microscope would need to find it. The medium was what I would call mild. Not much spicier than Taco Bell's sauce of the same name. The chicken itself was tiny. I am generally a pretty big appetite sort of guy, but this sandwich was more or less what I'd consider a snack. It was all bun, lettuce and very little chicken. The chicken there was dry. The fries were the best part of the meal ... basically bagged fries with a sprinkle of spices and salt on them. If you don't like salty ... you won't like these. You get a mountain of fries ... but the smallest size they have is over $5. A half size would have done. Overall, we won't be back. Not even worth a second try for us. The 3 star average rating is actually being generous. I see a lot of people do like it, so I'm not going to 2-star the business, even though that's how I'd honestly rate the food. If you are a light eater and have never been to a proper Peri Peri chicken place in Europe, you might not hate it. College students will eat anything. read more

Tribos was really good. If you've ever tried nandos, this place is very similar. Down to the toothpick with the temperature on it and the sides. Would definitely come back. My singular downside was that the only cheese option was American. At other Peri Peri places, they also have options like halloumi, and that was the only thing I really felt like I was missing here. Never doubt the love of halloumi. The service was great, and everything was clean, although there seem to be way more takeout orders, than people eating in. read more

We came to Tribos with our family after having a fun time at Aero Trampoline Park, and it was a fantastic experience! First and foremost, there is lots of seating, so we had no issue finding a comfy area to enjoy our dinner. I had the half chicken dark meat with hummus plate; the chicken was tender and well-seasoned, and it went wonderfully with the creamy hummus. My wife ordered the chicken bowl with perimayo corn, which she enjoyed because of the fresh ingredients and tasty sauce. The kids appreciated their chicken tenders with fries, which are a classic hit. One of the things we liked was that the meat was Halal, which was a bonus for us. And the best part? We didn't have to worry about cleaning up; the crew took care of the plates and kept our table clean. Delicious meals, a family-friendly atmosphere, and wonderful service! I wanted to try this place since its relatively new, right off Thayer street and because I think I had something similar in the past. It was late on a weekday so it was just me and my friend there. I went with the chicken bowl (mild spice level) and a side of corn on the cob so I can get a little taste of everything. We sat down right in front of the TV and watched Bob Ross paint spectacular canvases throughout our entire meal. I thoroughly enjoyed that they had this passive channel on; it was relaxing. The meal itself was good and tasty, but it wasn't too impressive. It was healthy, especially for a late night meal. The bowl included a few chunks of grilled chicken, with a mild sauce drizzled on top. I probably could have went with the next level of spice and been fine but mild was comfortable. The rice was probably my favorite part. I think it had anise and some other aromatic spices. The salad was simple, with lettuce, tomatoes, corn, and onion but really gave the plate a fresh component. The restaurant has a good amount of tables and the decor is nice. We have been to this restaurant at least two or three times. We had lunch here because it's a halal restaurant and a quick bite. However it wasn't up to our expectations specially since we have had different Peri Peri experiences across the US & Canada. The service was eager. What i mean is that the chef ventured out to help me. Watched a man lightly jog up the stairs then trip over im assuming his own foot and fly his way up the last couple, bracing himself on his hands at the top of the stairs, practically crawling into Tribos Peri Peri. i love tribos and whenever i cater this for friends, students, visitors, they get so excited. the lamb is amazinggggg whether it's in a bowl or a wrap or a lollipop. falafel is just ok like i definitely don't come here for falafel given Al Shami is right around the corner. the sauces go so well with the food, not overpowering just a nice addition. i have also had the chicken and it's very juicy and tender. you can pick your spice level which is great when you a group of people with different pallets. i usually order out but have dined in a couple times during low-key times of the day and the staff are very helpful. read more

Great place for peri peri chicken (South African Portuguese) on Thayer street. Got the original platter with 2 side dishes (fries and corn on the cob). There's 5 different spice levels. Most people get medium spice level. They also give additional hot sauce on the side. Flavors were great and the chicken was moist as well. White meat was better than dark meat. We were excited to try this new peri peri chicken shop last month. The owner (or may have been manager?) was super friendly and helpful when deciding what items were ok to have on gluten free diet, what most order for spicy factor and good sides. The quality of the chicken is excellent, service is also excellent. I oddly was a little disappointed in the flavor. The seasoning was spicy as promised, but it almost was a little bland besides the spice kick. This doesn't mean we wouldn't be back, it's nice inside and is a solid option for Thayer St. read more

This is such a tough one. I REALLY want to give this place 5 stars - but hear me out. I tried TPP a few months back and loved it. Yum! I was then sick the next two days with stomach pains, but didn't suspect it was the food (although it crossed my mind). The food was SO good that despite the post-peri peri GI issues, I reordered a week later. Delicious!....Followed by a day of intense stomach cramping and nausea. STILL, I refused to believe my new favorite chicken spot was the culprit. Denial is so powerful. I figured it must be a fluke and that i shouldn't make any rash assumptions. Fast forward a month later, my mom and I are hungry and I decide to introduce her to my new favorite chicken. I don't mention my past experiences. We order take out. Its excellent. The next day my mom calls me sick with all the same symptoms I'd had. She stayed very ill for 2 full days. I felt really guilty. So. In conclusion.... This restaurant makes food so good you'll keep risking it; gladly living in a delusional world where you'll even put your own family at risk just to get some of that bomb peri peri. But....somethings up in that kitchen. I suspect the owner (who i hear is lovely) isn't aware and so I'm hoping they see this review and make some adjustments to the kitchen, because I'd LOVE to return and I'd love to change this review to the 5 stars they deserve. read more

My boyfriend had ordered a chicken bowl from this place 2 days ago. 4 hours after eating the food, he got very sick (vomiting, etc). He has never had food poisoning until eating from this restaurant. I guess I'll start with the bad. I got the Tribos crispy chicken sandwich, hot. It was $10, was small, looked, and tasted like a McDonald's chicken patty sandwich that had hot sauce put on it. It was not enjoyable. My girlfriend got the peri peri chicken wrap (also $10) which was a little better because it used "real" chicken. The lettuce, or tomatoes tasted like the kind you get on fast food sandwiches. Not bright or carrying much flavor. I wouldn't get either of these items again. The good: The French fries were great with their seasoning, and with the $1 2oz side of perimayo dip. The dip was excellent. I think it's weird to charge $1 for a condiment on the side; yeah I know a lot of places do it, but this peri peri flavoring is supposed to be what makes your establishment different than any other place that sells fries or chicken. This is a great intersection of super tasty, healthy, and well priced. I've ordered from here several times and have never left disappointed. The bone-in chicken is well grilled, with an excellent char and seasoning. It comes out juicy and nicely sauced, not overwhelmingly sauces but not so little you're asking for more. Boneless chicken has all the same properties with a little more ease. The sauces I have had (mild-hot) have all been super tasty, and I'm looking forward to making my way through the rest of the list. For sides, the peri peri rice is wonderful. Well cooked and deliciously seasoned. Seems like it's very lightly tossed in some oil or butter to hold seasoning but not nearly enough to weigh it down or make it seem greasy. The fries are also great, crispy and seasoned lightly which is nice. My fiancée has had both the falafel and paneer wrap and has always spoken very highly of both, to add some variety to the review! It's so sad that there are no peri peri chicken places in Boston. Came for Waterfire intending to eat at another establishment across the street, but was so excited to see this brand new place open! You come in, place your order at the counter, take a table number, and wait for them to bring out the good stuff. We happened to come right at the beginning of the dinner rush, but they were already dealing with a huge party order. Nevertheless, they handled everything well and the food quality wasn't compromised. Ordered the original platter, which is a whole chicken and 2 large sides. Ordered half the chicken with lemon herb, the other half with hot. The chicken was pleasantly juicy and well grilled, and I was quite impressed with how spicy it was. I had read that their scale of spicy is typically much spicier, and I didn't really want to sweat with getting extra hot. Half chicken for a single portion is more than enough, as you get a breast, wing, drumstick and thigh. For the 2 sides we got the peri fries and the rice. The fries were piping hot and I loved the peri salt, that I ordered an extra portion of fries + extra peri salt to sprinkle on my chicken as well. The rice was delicious, aromatic and well seasoned. It is a tad bit on the drier side, but coupled with dabs of their garlic sauce and it's *chef's kiss*. Speaking of, they provide bottles of a white garlic sauce and hot sauce for your table. That garlic sauce is crack. I smothered it over everything. Next time I want to try their lamb chops, wings, and maybe their shakes. Overall I was super impressed with the food and with how hard the staff were working to make sure we had what we needed, even with serving the demands of the large party. It does look like you can make reservations for tables. Parking is street parking, but usually no issue as it is plentiful in this area. I do wish they had a separate sink out in the main dining room as to not tie up the single restroom. the food was insane. arguably some of the most flavorful, juicy, and tender chicken i've ever had. the second picture is showing how juicy the chicken was. we went with the mild sauce because we weren't sure how spicy their sauces were and we would definitely go up more on the spicy chart (we really love spicy food). when eating in they give you two sauces on the side a hot sauce and a yogurt based sauce, they were sooooo good!! the perimayo corn was so good, the only issue i had was the fact that the sauce wasn't mixed into the corn (but that's not serious we just mixed it in together) every bite was creamy and zesty and seasoned to perfection. the fries were so unbelievably good, i don't understand how fries can be so perfect they were crispy while also soft while also so flavorful. the service was great, it was our first time here and we didn't know much, the girl at the counter was super patient and helped to explain everything to help guide our order. we will 100% be back!! read more

1st timers here and absolutely loved it. Street parking only so just be mindful of that near the east side college area. The first thing we noticed was how clean and new everything looked. The worker welcomed us and explained a little of how the menu works so we took some paper menus to sit down and look over what we wanted. Everything from the wings, boneless chicken, lamb, rice, veggies, hummus, pita bread, peri- mayo corn was all so fresh and delicious. Very excellent quality and flavorful food I thought. Ordered an Original Platter online for pickup. The food was ready 20 minutes later when we arrived, just like it said it would be. Loved the sauces on the chicken! We did half lemon pepper, half medium. The flavors were bright with just the right amount of spice, and the chili and cream sauces they put on the side tasted great too!
