We had a fantastic experience at Positive Pie in Hardwick today! The pizza was perfect! Thin crisp crust, clean tomato base, light on the mozzarella and loaded with fresh vegetables! The chef actually brought it over to our table and served it with a smile. The Hostess/Waitress was charming, so very kind, and very quick with service. Hardly a wait time at all. It was busy today and Liz managed to take care of all her tables plus takeouts and the bar without missing a beat. Thank you Liz, you made our visit special; your joy was contagious. I think I went in with too high of expectations. The bruschetta pizza was described as being amazing. I mean it was good and I love a wood fired pizza, but it was just a pizza with tomato's and onions basically. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I don't know what I expected. Ordered take out which was better than dining in. I didn't love the ambience, but I think it had more to do with rude patrons than the restaurant itself. This place is truly a place to put on your must do list if your going through or staying in Hardwick. Everything is made with fresh ingredients. The pizza had a crispy crust except the bruschetta pizza which was a little more on the oily side for me. The meats used on the pizza and Stromboli is delicious and I'm guessing also local. My daughter also got a fettuccine alferado and the sauce was creamy and had a great balance of seasoning in it. The ambiance is nice and has rhat teue farm to table Vermont feel. I can't say enough about this wonderful dining experience . We went in for a nice lunch and although we ordered a lot of food ! We enjoyed every bite ! The pizza was the BEST I have ever had . We also enjoyed the wings and the fish and chips . We ended up with a few slices of some very yummy desert ! Oh and the dips ( ranch and blue cheese ) were the creamiest and oh so delicious. We ended up dining twice .. This restaurant has such a fun , laid back atmosphere. If you are looking for a good cocktail we also enjoyed the Hot toddy and the chocolate Godiva martini ! Having chosen East Hardwick as a destination during the Covid era, there are not a lot of restaurants that are open at 8pm. Luckily we were able to find "positive Pie" which is a very small local chain in that area. The interior is very spacious, with a darker atmosphere, almost like a dive bar. They have a bar area, and tables for larger parties on the left. Service was actually pretty quick and we ordered the Beef Calzone and the Mac and cheese. The helpings were extremely generous and the wait staff pleasant. The food lacked flavor though. They can benefit by adding a bit of more salt for flavoring. We got the pleasure of talking with the staff there , Fern, who was very cool and shared some areas that we could visit during our stay there. As a native of Hardwick it's been nice to visit in the last several years and have better quality dining options. However, today at Positive Pie is the first time I have ever told a restaurant to just cancel my order. My wife and I had met three other friends there, our waiter ( young male, baseball cap on backwards), seemed disinterested in being there to begin with. After we ordered one of our friends received their order about 15 minutes later, the other couple received theirs about 15 minutes after that. Eventually the waiter asked what I had ordered and I had to remind him my wife had ordered as well. As more time past, I finally went to the waiter to tell him to cancel our order, that we came to have dinner with our friends and they were done eating. There was never any explanation and an insincere apology. Employee Ricky seemed to be more concerned with how the place was being run, when we asked him who the manger was, he said there wasn't one. This place should be called the Negative Pie instead of the Positive Pie, The Cork and Fork is a much better option. read more

I ordered a personal cheese pizza and it was delicious. I couldn't finish it, so I brought the leftovers home and reheated them later on. Even reheated, it's great. The pizza isn't too salty, which I loved! My fiancé got a burger with fries, and he also liked his meal! The service was great! The server was very attentive and nice. My sister and I took a road trip to Vermont for a Craigslist acquisition and got hungry at the right place! I loved the old mill atmosphere and the food was delicious! I had the Pulled Pork Poutine and it was perfect. The pork was tender, the sauce was just the right blend of sweet and acidic, the cheese was gooey, and the fries were not overpowered by it all. My sister had the Roasted Beet Salad with Chicken and enjoyed it very much. If we find ourselves there again we will certainly stop for a meal. read more

This is one of my wife's favorite places to go for pizza. We drive 45 minutes each way to get there. The inside is currently closed due to COVID. You need to order takeout from the outside window. You can also do takeout cans of beer if you wish. Since I had a long drive, I opted for no beer. The pizzas are thin crust and very innovative. They also taste great. There is a parking lot next to the town fields or you can go further down the dirt road and eat by the river. Whatever you decide to do, this place is worth the trip. When the inside opens again, it is an old rustic Vermont bar that hasn't been remodeled in decades. The floor creaks as you walk around. They have a small outdoor dining area out back. You won't find anything like this place in MA or CT. read more

Note to those who don't live in central Vermont: Positive Pie is a pillar of the community, an excellent pizza place with a friendly staff, great salads, decent pasta, etc. It's a great place (and usually the only place) to get slices. The prices are a little high, but the quality is worth it. But. It's unconscionably slow. There's no reason on earth it should take 45 minutes to serve a pizza. I've eaten at every PP branch multiple times, and it's a consistent issue. Busy times, slow times. Lunch and dinner. The kitchen staff at this restaurant is just not being tasked efficiently, to the point where, no joke, every time I eat here with antsy children (who by now know the deal) I swear I'll never go back. But PP operates in an area where it's the best option, awful as it can be. It doesn't matter how good the food is if it's this slow. It feels obnoxious and hostile. And embarrassing. Central VT deserves better. read more

We got the same poutine with duck gravy and hand cut fries and while it pretty good, it would have benefited from some additional seasoning. SO DISAPPOINTING. We felt like pizza Friday night. Drove over, 1 hour. Were greeted, seated promptly. My husband ordered Von Trapp lager. Oops, out of that. Why not say that first? We ordered our pizza. Gluten free for me. FIFTEEN MINUTES later our very pleasant waitress comes over: "I have just been informed that we're out of gluten free pizza." Well No pizza for me. Since when does a so-called PIZZERIA run out of pizza, on a Friday evening of a holiday weekend? Unless gluten free is just a box they check on Yelp. My husband's pizza was decent. Not great. My shrimp scampi, with $3 upcharge for gluten free, was decent. The shrimp were very good. But the bland sauce was thickened with xanthan or something, and the only thing in it besides pasta and shrimp was tiny shreds of tomato. $19. They were nice enough to make up some grilled asparagus as a side, quickly, since the scampi had no side. And when the check came, it appeared they had taken 20% off the food charges, although strangely she didn't say anything about it. As I said, our server was nice. The decor is what restaurant consultants consider hip. It could be anywhere in the country, probably is. Nothing wrong with it, except that it's completely anonymous. Anyway, I won't be taking another chance on Positive Pie. Another corporate chain where the consultants are gone and the hired staff does their best to cope. read more

I don't know that I've ever gotten takeout from Positive Pie and had everything prepared correctly and when they said it'd be. They've been open long enough to have their act together, but since they have so little competition they have no incentive to. Our food is usually ready 10-30 minutes after they say it will be, though a couple times it's been ready earlier than they said it'd be and it was cold when I came to get it. Caesar salad comes missing croutons, and once it had no dressing. Parts of the order are omitted and we have to wait for them to make it. Rarely is any offer made to compensate us for wrong orders or long wait times. The food, when made correctly, is good. I just wish they'd figure out how to offer decent takeout service. read more

Each Positive Pie is different with a slightly different menu and specialties. The one in Montpelier is open 7 days each week and has the most extensive menu. You can mix and match salads and protein and I love the beet salad with salmon, or the Eden salad with shrimp. I'm also a fan of the Triton sandwich there. The Positive Pie in Plainfield offers the best pizza. Something about the water or ovens makes it the best NY style in the area. It also features an outdoor patio with a river view in warm weather and a lovely bar for burgers and beers in the winter. The Hardwick Positive Pie's oven offer a real wood fired effect for delicious baked entrees and a smaller more rustic pizza pie. The service there tends to be extra and they also offer a full bar with specials most week days. read more

We visited Positive Pie in the middle of October. We were up in VT for an mountain bike race and desperately needed to carbload the night before the race. It was 8pm by the time we arrived and only had to wait 5 minutes for a table. The hubs appreciated the beer menu and ordered one the the Hill Farmstead on tap. I enjoyed the Bee Positive cocktail which was TO DIE FOR. We shared the poutine, because when you are this close to the border, do as the locals do. Our pizzas were amazing! Brought some back to our AirBnB to nibble on later. After riding 50+ miles through Burke Mountain, hubs was STARVING. So we ventured back to Positive Pie on Saturday night. Got there around 7pm and was able to snag 2 seats at the bar. Had the calamari to start this time which was super yummy. 2 more pies, 2 more full stomachs, 2 happy customers. I ordered a personal 10 inch gluten free pizza with cheese and anchovies, while the kids got regular cheese pizzas. All three pizzas were done in a thin crust style and light on the cheese and sauce. Surprisingly, I thought the gluten free pizza actually tasted better than the regular. Not the best pizza I ever had, but good nonetheless. There's lots more than just pizza. They have a full menu with burgers, sandwiches, and a few fish dishes. Our waitress was very nice, knew the menu well, and was prompt with the drinks, the food, and the check.
