Before coming to Village Salon, I had a terrible experience that left me in tears & I avoided a haircut for 2 whole years. When I finally called to make an appointment & told the front desk about my anxieties, they recommended Melissa. I have been going to her (almost) religiously for 5 years now, though I have been to Lauren as well. I have never been disappointed by this salon. Actually, I always leave with a smile on my face & a great new do. When I told Melissa about my trichotillomania (hair-pulling) that left me with an embarrassing cowlick, she was very kind & helped me to tamp it down. This actually helped me to kick the compulsion & I now only very rarely pull my hair. So long as I'm in the tri-state area, I will be coming back to Village Salon. read more

I've never had a better cut! For years, I've been looking for a home salon that I could go to and be sure I would feel good coming out. I feel confident that I have found that place. Karen did a wonderful job, and explained everything to me as she was doing it. I came in for a deva cut for my weird, kind of wavy kind of straight hair. Instead of charging me for the more expensive cut, she talked to me about doing a normal cut instead for now, and told me about how to actually take care of my waves so that if I wanted a deva cut next time, I would be ready for it. She easily could have made herself an extra $40, and she went out of her way to put that back in my pocket. She explained to me the ingredients to look for in shampoos and conditioners, never pushing salon products. I forget the name of it, but she discussed my hairs health and highly recommended an in-salon treatment to help with my hairs dryness, I went for it and will NEVER look back! Since moving to a home with very hard water, my hair has been so dry. I cannot believe that treatment was all it took for my hair to be healthy and again, it has an actual SHINE to it! And it's still going weeks later, not the sort of thing where 4 days later the treatment effects are gone and it was all a smoke show. My hair is truly just healthier now. I will definitely be getting that treatment again when the hard water wrecks my hair with more time. None of that even touches on the cut itself, which is wonderful. She let me talk about what I was thinking, show photos, and confirmed what I said afterwards so I wasn't worried she missed anything. She checked in with me on length and style as she was cutting layers. In this process she even, once again, continued to mention things that were for my benefit and not her own. For example, we discussed bangs/going short, as I was thinking about it but not sure (i have long hair), and she mentioned that I seemed like the kind of person that gets a cut every year or so (accurate, lol) and that I should think about how if I get bangs &/or go short, I would likely be in need of much more frequent cuts, especially with bangs, and to add the cost of those visits or the effort of learning how to trim bangs myself into my styler consideration. She easily could have hyped me up for bangs, given me what I'm sure would have been an excellent cut, and been excited with her new every 3 month client instead of an annual one. She seems like the type of person who is very passionate about her work and just can't help but do a great job and really lay out all your options for you. An excellent communicator. I scheduled my first appointment here at the spur of the moment on a Tuesday morning. I wish I had stumbled upon Sharon before I left. I have super fine, straight-as-a-board hair and haircuts are often the same feathered shoulder-length do. I wanted something different and Sharon helped me decide upon a long bob and the results are fantastic. Bonus: the haircut was very reasonably priced for such a nice salon. I only gave four of five stars because I had a simple haircut and no other services. Everyone was friendly and it was a very positive experience. read more

I went here for a Devacut with Lauren. I left with an oil slick of crunchy products matted through my hair to create curls. It hid how bad the cut was. The top of the cut was poufy and - as the stylist at the other salon I went to to have it fixed explained it to me - "She completely didn't blend the top layer and face frame into the rest of the cut." I looked like a jellyfish. Lauren's attitude was also incredibly snobby and off putting. She made more than a few judgmental comments about me while I was in her chair which frankly is none of her business to comment on. Maybe I wasn't cool enough to warrant her caring about how good a job she did. I have to imagine that the positive reviews for her here are either from friends of hers or people who fit her narrow definition of cool. I found the atmosphere to be a mix of professional people with a few who seem to be still mentally in High School. I would never come back here. read more

Can't say enough about how much I love my haircut. The salon has a modern but relaxed feel and while they carry lots of hair products I didn't get an irritating up-sell. Will definitely be coming back. read more

Great place to get a brand new look. Lauren is a very educated stylist. She did a great job. Staff was very friendly and asked me several times if I wanted anything to drink, read, or be more comfortable. They also have a very sweet dog who makes you feel like you are just visiting family. I've been coming here for 4 years. The service is excellent, prices are a little expensive, but it matches the quality of the service. They always offer you something to drink which is nice. It's always a good idea to make your appointments early during busy times (generally before holidays and the like). I'll keep coming here as long as I stay in Pennington. read more

I have been going here for at least 8 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. My stylist is excellent. She discusses with me what I want and does a great job. I have a number of people stop me and ask me where I get my hair cut. She is especially good with curly hair. There products are also excellent. In addition, Dave does the best facials I have ever had. I use their face products as well and have been very happy with my skin. read more
