Grilled cheese and their " house fries???"

Atmosphere was inviting, friendly, definitely a good vibe for a local spot. Great for breakfast and lunch. Prices are good. I ordered their Grilled cheese with whole wheat bread and tomatoes and basil amd pesto sauce, delicious. Service is just OK. My server was not very knowledgeable of menu. I asked what are my side choices, he said fruit, salad, or French fries. When I asked what is on the salad he hesitated, so I just ordered fries. When my plate came out it had roasted potatoes. I told him I ordered fries and he said " oh yea, those ARE the house fries ... sorry " im thinking these are not fries at all. So I ate the sandwich and left the potatoes. To get to bathroom you have to walk thru the small kitchen area. Not very safe. Im glad I tried this spot, cause Im always up for trying new things, but I dont think im coming back

great neighborhood brunch spot! the food took a little longer to come out but it wasn't too bad. the crab's benedict ($20) was decent, although you could tell the crab was canned (a bit dry and flaky). the french toast orgy ($17.50) was good but the orange-spiced flavor in the french toast was completely overwhelmed by the yogurt and granola

Kate's is a neighbourhood gem. The owner and wait staff are always so friendly and welcoming. The food is great breakfast and lunch fare, creative and everything is homemade from smoothies to sausage. My new favorite is the zaatar avocado toast. It comes with 2 eggs any style, home fries and feta and olive crumbles. Delicious and perfect in every way!

Independent little diner in the Lower Haight neighborhood of San Francisco. Warm, homey atmosphere with friendly service and a budget friendly menu.

I love this place so much, we came back with friends. I had the New England Flannel Hash (corned beef hash) again because it was so good last time, and it did not disappoint. My friend had the banana nut pancakes, and they were the size of the plate and did not skimp on bananas or nuts. Another friend had the Shakshuka with chicken and said it was delicious. Service is fast, and the food comes out hot. If you are in need of breakfast, would definitely recommend Kate's Kitchen.

Dined as a party of 3 for Sunday breakfast recently, but have been going here for years when I lived nearby. It's a quirky restaurant (you'll have to go through the kitchen to use the restroom) with a large mural of the United States. Aside from the printed menu, make sure to check the boards above the counter for seasonal or daily specials. Service was friendly and attentive. If you like sausage, get their house made sausage patty on the side of whatever you order! Yum!

Super cute and the service is amazing! So friendly from the minute we walked in. The food was delicious! They also have a variety of fresh squeezed juices and smoothies.

We went here for Sunday brunch, and were seated in less than 10 minutes. The server Melody was super friendly and was prompt at serving us. We ordered strawberry banana and lemon curd pancakes, vegetable scramble, a side of bacon and shakshuka. Everything was delicious and even the coffee was great. Not the water down diner kind!! The place is very homey and cozy. A little tight on space but the food is delicious. The service was also very friendly and we enjoyed the experience. Only small complaint is the bathroom. It could use a little update. This place is a definite gem and we will return.

Do they have gluten free pancakes?

Yes. Cornmeal and you have to ask for them. Biscuits too. We found them both to be really dry and didn't enjoy them.

He anticipated what we needed without hovering and struck that perfect balance of professionalism and personality that makes you feel truly taken care of. Solid Caesar with real anchovies, not overdressed. Roasted prime beef and verlasso salmon were incredibly tender but what really knocked it outta the park was the seasoning and veg sides - the ponzu braised cabbage under the salmon, the hen of the woods and potato puree under the beef. Didn't get the fried chicken this time but it's incredible. Burrata whipped potatoes haricot verts, chocolate cupcake, and Madelines were solid. Assume options off the event menu are better. The croutons a little stale in the salad and the cupcake frosting tasting artificial were my only notes.

The sandwich comes with a small dressed salad and three tomato halves. It was nice. The potatoes served with the sandwich were roasted but served cold and dry. Like they were left over from the night before. Randy enjoyed his mocha. We shared a very dry, flavorless except for the two small bits of jam in them, "cheese" danish. Definitely skip this $7 item that you could get at a circle k for $1.50 and it would taste fresher. You order when you walk in and someone delivers your order and then you're left to fend for yourself. We were able to locate some ketchup for the potatoes on our own. Nobody ever checked on us. This is the second place on this visit that's charging an extra 5% fee so that their employees can have a living wage and health insurance, which absolutely, every employee should have. With the prices they charge, they should already be able to do that, though. I read an article about this fee with many different names and I would rather pay a bit higher of a price and know the employees were taken care of than be surprised by this fee later. Two sandwich breakfasts, a mocha and a danish on top of tax and their healthy sf fee was $63. Steep for the quality we got. Won't be back.

Coconut Margarita has some creaminess to it and but the sweetness is well balanced. The old fashioned has very well balanced flavors, it's strong (of course) but has subtle notes from the bitters, mezcal, and sweetness. We ordered the halibut ceviche which was perfectly seasoned, good portion, and delicious. We also ordered chicken tamales which were tasty but it was missing/lacking something. Either the exterior was too thick or maybe not enough sauce, unsure but we definitely needed salsa to eat with the tamales for that missing component. Some disappointing/confusing experiences: 1. Why are packaged saltine crackers offered with the ceviche? They should just stick with the fresh chips, seems like a waste of money and an odd choice. I'd recommend placing the lime in the ceviche bowl and offering more chips if the bowl is low/empty. 2. We asked for some spicy salsa (bc the other one is mild and we wanted something spicier to eat with our food) but they brought tapatio and chalula?... I would think an upscale place such as this would have homemade spicy salsa. 3. The refried beans were delicious but extremely salty, please have multiple people taste test the foods that are batch made like beans, rice, etc. before serving to the public. We were informed the entire dessert menu is delicious so next time we will definitely save room for that!

We all ordered slim plates, which is a nice option, as the provide lighter meals for a lower price. For $14.50 I got Prime Rib (I think they call it round steak), mashed potatoes, a salad, a roll, and a side of beans. They offer a wide range of other options, including rotating nighttly specials. The guys at the counter are awesome, and are eager to serve you up a tasty plate, just how you want it! Everything is perfectly serviceable. Drinks are available on the other side of the room, and they have a great selection of beer and liquor (and I expect wines as well). I had a Ukrainian beer with my steak, and it hit the spot! Service at the bar is also quite good. I didn't have an Irish Coffee, since they didn't have fresh coffee made and we were in a bit of a time crunch, but I recall those being a treat as well. Huge helpings of tasty food at a reasonable price, and service with a smile makes this a heartwarming bit of San Francisco's classic dining.
