The B.R.I.T. - The Best Reuben in Town

Got the Best Reuben in Town. It was my first time ever having a Reuben and didn't know what to expect. The sammich was freaking delicious!

Heard a lot about the Vine since we've been traveling to Elkhart a lot lately for shopping and fine dining so finally stopped by. We are bar people so loved the bar seating there. The atmosphere was very nice. First off both our entrees were very good. We both cleaned our plates. A couple areas for improvement. The chicken dumpling soup was delicious but it wasn't hot enough. Just above lukewarm. You should have to blow on that first spoonful to cool it down a tad. The side Cesar Salad had no Romaine. Wasn't really a traditional Cesar dressing either. Cesar Salad at 523 is top notch which I compared it to. We'll be back.

The dining experience was exceptional overall, though the service fell short. The food quality was outstanding. Staff attentiveness could be better, as the personnel came across a bit aloof.

The Vine around Christmas is a VIBE. I highly suggest you request a reservation in what they call "The Vault" - a nice private room that is great for about 10 people or less. The service is always impeccable and they make you feel right at home. The Fra Diablo is a staple menu item that at least 1 person in my group always orders and never disappoints. Fra Diablo: penne pasta and mushrooms in our spicy vodka sauce topped with parmesan cheese + add Chicken or Shrimp You'll always catch me ordering the Filet Mignon here and it is accompanied by the starch and vegetable of the day. All steaks are hand-cut on-premise and you can add shrimp if you like. The wine selection is phenomenal and the cocktails are tasty. Overall - a MUST try if you are in the South Bend/Elkhart area!

I like that they encourage virtual menus and they have a decent patio with well spaced tables. They have a nice lunch menu, light to heavy meals. I chose the soup and salad combo with cold gazpacho soup and the Vine salad. Both were very good. I did ask for bread which they bring straight from the oven, great! Buttery and crisp on the top, yum. RRR got a cheeseburger and really enjoyed it.

    Shrimp cocktail $18

Our waitress was awesome! The whole staff were very friendly & welcoming. Our food was very good, came out hot. We would have preferred chilled plates for the shrimp cocktail($18). I wish they offered chips as a side with the sandwiches/burgers. An itty bitty serving of fresh fruit or pasta salad wasn't an ideal choice. And I do mean itty bitty, it was the same amount that came mixed with the shrimp cocktail! I would have preferred some fancy chips to the sides offered. (FYI, fries weren't one of them nor were veggies ) There was a lot of meat on the Ruben sandwich with was very good($16). The burgers were very good as well($18.50). The atmosphere was pub style. We had a nice dinner, not sure with the high prices if we will be back. There are other options in that price range with more balanced meal options. We didn't like leaving a meal & already thinking about what we are going to have later, especially with the price of the meal. It was nice to try though.

    Baked Brie and French bread

Had a great time sitting in the patio, got the baked Brie which was very delish and come with a nice fruit spread. Got the chicken tacos for dinner which were solid with a glass of sangria, rest of the tables food looked great as well!

Walked down from the hotel and I'm glad I did. Was going to get a pizza but the ahi tuna special with rice and green beans was delicious. Had the strawberries and cream for dessert. Friendly staff and Patricia did a great job.

    My Cosmo drink

I was not impressed with the Vine on a whole. I think it's very over priced. As you can see my drink was horrible. Why would you serve a drink half full. I have never had one like this any where. When I order a Martini it is full. Not half full. I think they need to rethink this. When I said something to the waitress she just laughed. Not impressed at all.

My wife and I used to go to The Vine often when it was in South Bend. So we haven't been in several years now. What the hell? Why did we not drive to Elkhart? It was wonderful! It's a cozy place, but not too small. Much prefer this type of setting to a larger one. Excellent wine, spirits and beer list that you will absolutely find suits your tastes. We started with the Asiago Crab Dip. Such good gooey cheesiness. There's an ample amount of crab meat (you don't get that everywhere), and is with some damn good bread. I had the Fra Diablo with grilled chicken. My wife had the Wild Mushroom Ravioli. The Diablo has a great spice level to it. I could use a bit more heat, but I'm like that. Great flavor in the sauce, although the chicken was a bit dry. Not a deal breaker however. As for the ravioli, wow. Just wow. Such creamy richness. If you want a lighter dish, stay the hell away from this then. If you want some comfort and a luxurious sauce, look no further. A couple of drinks apiece (very nicely done dirty Tito's martinis for me, Riesling for the wife), and we opted not to have a dessert this time. Walked out well fed, and for a total bill that doesn't break your bankroll to pieces. Top that with good service, means we will come back. Like we used to do at the older locations.

The Vine is fine. I had a perfect lunch here (December 2018) with a relative and a business advisor for a cozey lunch. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Desconstructed Taco and it was delicious. The tuna had a perfect, smokey and seasoned flavor. The prices were right for good fare. The coffee on this chilly day was welcomed and well flavored. The waitstaff and hostess were welcoming and gracious. Great atmosphere for lunch, dinner, or a small-town business meeting. When in Elkhart I will come back for dinner.

Our water was tap with no ice and didn't taste very good. I ordered a lemonade which was okay, but it had a paper straw with a weird texture that took away from the quality of the lemonade. I would rather them have used reusable, washable plastic/metal straws instead of the paper straws they used, especially for what is supposed to be a high-end restaurant. My fork was also dirty and not washed well enough. That's the bad out of the way, but there was definitely some upside. The food was phenomenal. The Margherita pizza was the best that I'd ever had, and the chicken parmigiana was fantastic. Everything came out fresh and hot. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with the menu, and we had a total of 4 different workers who came up to us for one reason or another. (I didn't ask for any managers or anything don't worry lol) Overall, the food carried the experience for me. It was good enough to go back to, but getting the rickety table, dirty fork, and paper straw was very disappointing for the supposed high-end quality of the restaurant. I don't think I'll go back, hope other customers have a better experience for the price point.

I'm glad they were open a little later than average. I was delighted to eat a smoked brisket burger. That thing must've been 6 inches high. It was a monster. My sweetie loved the fish tacos. They have an amazing wasabi, mayo sauce that goes with them. The middles split a prime rib Mac and cheese. They described it as "real American food" with a smile and a twinkle in their eye. That means it's delicious. It's actually a bacon prime rib, mac & cheese, and they don't even mention the bacon because the prime rib is so good. Very filling. I took a sample and it is probably the best tasting meat augmented mac & cheese I've ever tasted. The smokiness just does something amazing there. I like the background music. I like the barn, Midwest, rustic ambience. It was a delicious experience. I had to share about it online with some Japanese folks because of their recent enthusiasm for American "cheese violence". I asked if that magnificent burger qualifies as "meat violence".

I was Seated right away and introduced to my waitress, Taylor, immediately. Taylor deserves special accolades. She was so friendly and caring; she made my dining experience special. Thank you Taylor!! Taylor was awesome; she was friendly, always checking on me and sincerely concerned about my satisfaction. She was willing to do anything to make things right if I wasn't happy with something. First I ordered the Crab Cakes as an appetizer. Then I ordered off the specials menu; a Japanese spiced Branzino dish. The crab cakes were somewhat disappointing. Mostly filler and not much crab taste. Sometimes the taste actually resembled a tuna fish sandwich. The remoulade sauce that came with the crab cakes was really tasty. I wasn't really happy with the branzino dish. The fish was cooked pretty well, but "in my opinion" It had too much seasoning and the seasoning had an off flavor. Could just be my personal tastes. The restaurant has a lot of seating, little nooks and corners and a bar with seating. Plenty of quiet areas and areas to gather as a large group as well. Even though I didn't have great food choices today; I'm pretty sure while I'm in town this weekend, I'll go back and try some different dishes. See you all soon!!
