Hmm, where to start. The Good: - Lovely service - Nice setting - Good food (2 coffees, 2 breakfast skillets, 1 pancake order with side of bacon) The Bad: - The price! They don't bring a bill; you pay at the register. It wasn't an itemized receipt, just the overall bill. Maybe gratuity was included for our party of 2 adults and 1 child?! I felt a little uncomfortable asking why the bill for the above food totaled $68, but I hate looking like a cheapskate and they had been attentive with service, so I went ahead and choked out a nice tip. Total bill was $82. I'm still scratching my head and wondering how it totaled up to so much. I should have asked, but I felt uncomfortable. We walked away thinking how many other places we could have gone to and what we could have gotten for $82. Won't be back. That said, the food was good! But it wasn't super high quality. It's a greasy spoon, for goodness sake. And I had read that others found it pricey, so I was warned. Yikes, though. Prior to dining here, I read the Yelp reviews. I agree with many of them. This is a 1960s style diner with counter service. Although the restaurant was fairly clean, it needs to be remodeled. Very little parking is available. The restaurant was almost empty. For the prices they charge, they absolutely skimped on quality. The food was delivered hot. There was very little meat in the creamed chip beef sauce. The toast was thin, airy, and tasteless. The potatoes were the best thing on the plate. I wish they were more crispy. The juice was very sweet rather than freshly wheezed or higher quality refrigerated fresh juice. The coffee was bitter and watery. Instead of taking leftovers home, I left half of my food on the plate. When I requested a check, the waiter called me to the counter to pay ~$24. When I go out to a sit-down restaurant, I want them to give me something better than I can make myself at home. I am glad that I did not bring my family here. Although the service was quick, I won't be returning. Given all the better cafe and restaurant options available in the area, I do not see how this place can afford to remain open. read more

I was going to order an omelette but as I perused them I realized almost none of them had cheese and to order any of them was more expensive than doing the "build your own". Weird. Have loved this place since I was a kid. Still a phenomenal place for breakfast. However I take my 8 year old daughter there for breakfast the other day and it is $70 for 1 adult and 1 child. My friend and I went here on Sunday around 11:45am and it was definitely crowded, we were quoted a 10-15 minute wait, but were sat in about 5 minutes. Our waitress greeted us pretty promptly for drinks, my friend got a coffee and I got a water. We told the waitress we needed a moment to peruse the menu, we eventually ordered, I got the three egg breakfast with my eggs scrambled with cheese, turkey sausage, home fries cooked well done and toast. The food came out fairly quickly and the food was solid diner food, nothing special, but it hit the spot. We waited a bit for our waitress to check on us, so I waited for grape jelly for awhile, otherwise service was prompt and they kept my friend's coffee filled. Walked in here on a Tuesday afternoon with my friend, and there was nobody in here. Better for us, I guess, but bad for the restaurant. Plenty of seating, along with parking outside - I really liked the decor and all the chickens/ roosters that they had. You can select your own table, and we were served menus, drinks fairly quickly. The menu is fairly similar to most diner spots in this area, while also having an all-day breakfast menu too. ------------------------------------------------- What we ordered: - 2 Eggs with Home Fries and Toast, with a side of meat choice (I opted for eggs over easy, wheat toast, and bacon) - Short Stack with 2 eggs and side of meat choice (chocolate chip short stack, 2 scrambled eggs, and bacon) -Sausage and Gravy over Biscuit, served with home fries (to-go) ------------------------------------------------- Overall, all of the food was quite delicious and affordable. We were able to be in and out of there in less than 30 minutes. The only reason why I'm deducting a star is due to the oversalting of the home fries, which I mentioned to the waitress and owner, and they let me know it's sometimes due to the amount of butter that they use. While it was too salty in the home fries plate I ate in the restaurant, it was a good combo with the sausage and gravy over biscuit, where the gravy had a slight sweetness to is (maybe some maple syrup included). Today I had a late breakfast with my friend at The Virginian Restaurant. It's a "seat yourself" style restaurant with plenty of space. The restaurant is decorated with old diner style art and signs. Soon after we sat, our server asked us for our drink order, and food order after that. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. I'm from the south and I love a good sausage gravy. Our food didn't take long at all, and although there was a mix up between home fries and French fries, it only took a couple minutes to get some fresh and crisp fries made. My biscuits and gravy was not good. The biscuits were dry and one of them was over cooked or stale. The gravy was pretty bland. The eggs were unseasoned (although many restaurants do that) but cooked appropriately. Each dish came with home fries, and they were nice enough. The French fries my friend and I shared were crispy but really needed some salt. We weren't really checked up on at all after we got our food, and couldn't get the attention of anyone to ask for more water. When we were finished, it took a while to get the check. Then, it took a while for our server to pick it up with my card. Overall, not a terrible experience but I won't be going back any time soon. I recommend The Virginian Restaurant for a no fuss dining experience, as long as you like plain food. 4/10. read more

I was out on Friday morning wanting a breakfast more than just a fast food meal. It has been a long long time since I have visited The Virginian Restaurant. I've always known it to be good and at a reasonable cost. As expected, good service and good food. However, it is now a huge rip off. I know costs are up, but for 2 eggs, ham, potatoes, 2 pancakes and a coffee (no toast), $24.42; and of course you add tip on top as it is not the servers fault.
