Bacon Steak Salad & Crab Bisque

We decided to have Sunday brunch here after church to celebrate two special occasions. Since we had a larger crowd, I booked a private room in advance (no room charge if spending minimum is met). Our waiter, Holden, was amazing from start to finish! The food was delicious as well. There were a few minor issues due to the kitchen closing at 2:30, but they were quickly resolved. I will definitely be returning to this establishment during the week for their happy hour!

It had been years since I last visited this location after moving away, so I was excited to return recently with friends. Unfortunately, I left disappointed with the quality of the food--especially given the restaurant's $$$ price point, which sets a higher expectation. I ordered the wedge salad with chicken as my protein of choice. The chicken was overcooked, and while the presentation was decent, it didn't resemble a traditional wedge salad. I'm open to creative interpretations, but this version felt underwhelming. The pickled onions, in particular, weren't to my taste. On a positive note, the sweet tea was enjoyable, and the best part of the experience was the great company I had at lunch. As for the ambiance, it was nothing remarkable as was the service --just average.

I'm not sure why this place only has around 3 stars? My experience was awesome! My family and I ate at CityRange for Father's Day. The restaurant was quite busy, but we had a reservation so we were seated quickly. Our server was awesome and very attentive. Another nice touch was that they had custom menus that said "Father's Day" at the top of them. The restaurant brings out bread and butter for the table. The bread was nice and hot, so it was finished off pretty quickly by my family. For my entree I got the garlic steak and shrimp. The entree had a fantastic flavor and was served with mashed potatoes and asparagus (I substituted this for Brussel sprouts). Go give this place a try, especially if you find yourself doing some shopping in the area.

Service is good but the food is grim. My husband had the salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli, broccoli was cold. I had the "pecan crusted chicken breast" with mashed potatoes and broccoli, and my whole meal was so cold the sauce was gelatinized.

Food was alright - kind of what you would expect. I ordered the bourbon chicken and it literally came out as a patty? Which was odd. Also the sauce that comes with it is thick in a scary way. Brussels were good though! Service was slowwwww but they were also really busy. House salad was really good. The special spinach and artichoke bacon dip was pretty good. Honestly, don't love crab cakes, but they were pretty good as well.

So happy at size, at my City Range. Write happy hour. Superior alcohol options. Great diversion!

City Range is a long standing local GVL staple for good reason. My favorite is their Sunday jazz brunch menu, which I'm excited to learn has returned after a brief hiatus! The food is always consistent and solid & service is always great. I love to go for happy hour (you have to sit in bar area for the specials) they have some good specials and deals each day. Some of my faves are their soups, salads, and apps (buffalo shrimp and bread in pic - both always so good!) they also have a great wine and cocktail list. I've attended a couple events in their private event room which is also really nice if you're looking for a good space to host a dinner party or bday, etc in a casual environment.

    Lunch! Filet,

Tried this restaurant in the early afternoon. There were some tempting lunch specials but I needed a steak Ordered the 6oz filet , asparagus, & loaded baked potato with the Merlo. I like my steaks temperature medium well & Pittsburgh. Perfection! Next time, I'll try to sit outside.

The location on Main Street (in the former Lemongrass space, I believe) is charming and comfortable, though seating can feel a bit tight unless you're lucky enough to get a booth. The atmosphere is lively but intimate. Food-wise, the salad and entrées were very good, and service was attentive throughout the evening. That said, I did leave slightly underwhelmed given the expectations that come with a Michelin-starred restaurant. One small surprise was seeing entrées served with fries as a standard--it felt a bit more casual than anticipated. Overall, it was a nice dining experience and worth trying, especially if you're into Michelin-recognized spots.

The ribeye sandwich and truffle fries were both exceptional. Having had she crab soups at different NC and SC restaurants, I thought theirs was just ok. I plan for a big budget meal and am never disappointed. I must say that this experience was totally different, but just as amazing in its own way. My friend was having a work luncheon upstairs and we showed up at the end for her coworkers to meet her baby that we had in tow. We hadn't eaten yet so while they continued on to the next part of their gettogether, we snagged a table at the bar for a quick lunch. We shared the prime rib sliders and a bowl of the French onion soup. The soup was loaded with crispy onion strings on top and tons of caramelized onions down below. The prime rib sliders something I didn't realize I'd be dreaming about later. They were like the tastiest mini cheesesteaks and I could eat a platter of them if given the opportunity. It's great to see Halls from a different perspective and not as only a $500 dinner. This was the least I've ever spent at Halls but I still had an amazing experience. I need to get them on my regular lunch rotation in Charleston so I can try more of the menu.

That's why what happened this past Valentine's weekend was so disappointing. We had a 6:30 reservation and arrived at 6:25 to find the entire entryway completely packed. We understand it was Valentine's weekend and expected it to be busy, but this felt beyond busy -- it felt significantly overbooked. After finally checking in, we headed to the bar. The bartender was clearly overwhelmed (through no fault of her own), and it took about 20 minutes just to get a drink. Despite having a reservation, we weren't seated until a little after 7:30 -- over an hour wait. That is simply unheard of when you have a confirmed reservation. The only reason we stayed was because it was Valentine's Day and we knew getting in anywhere else would have been nearly impossible. The wait staff was apologetic and kind, which we genuinely appreciated because it was obvious the situation wasn't their fault. Unfortunately, the overbooking also impacted the kitchen, and our food took a long time to arrive. We didn't leave until 10:30 p.m., which is excessive for a 6:30 reservation. What was most disappointing was that there was no acknowledgment from management beyond verbal apologies from staff -- no small gesture, no complimentary glass of wine, no discount. The evening felt like a case of overbooking at the expense of both customers and employees. We hope lessons are learned from this. We've loved this restaurant for years, but we will not be returning on Valentine's Day again. It definitely left a bad taste in our mouths.

We were seated on the terrace by the door, which was less than desirable but still good. The chair I was in was awfully uncomfortable, but the benches were suitable. For food, we ordered the crispy Brussels sprouts, Earl Grey tea bread, chicken tamales, berry French toast, mushroom bruschetta and fried oysters. The Brussels were good and perfectly cooked. The Earl Grey tea bread was good, but too sweet for me (not a sweets person). My friends ordered the chicken tamales and berry French toast, respectively, and enjoyed their meal. For me, the menu didn't have anything that caught my eye, so I made a meal of the small plates. I love mushrooms, but I felt that the mushrooms in the bruschetta needed to be chopped. Their meaty texture and large pieces made it less than desirable, even though the flavor was good. The oysters were well-cooked and served in an ample portion, but with cocktail sauce rather than aioli. When asked, she brought me the paprika aioli that's on the Brussels sprouts. Still, I think a lemon-and-herb aioli or a lemon-and-horseradish aioli would have been more appropriate for a fresh brightness to cut through the breading. It was almost a good meal, but oftentimes the devil is in the details.
