I love stopping in at these nutritionist/vitamin shops because the clerks always know what they're talking about and can give me recommendations on similar products that I'm looking for, lately I've become really picky what I look for at nutrition stores, but I always feel like vitamin shops carries more for my needs than GNC does. As for this spot it was my first time coming here and I was very impressed. I love this place. Too bad there isn't a location in Santa Cruz; if you want a variety of products to supplement your fitness/health needs, a big, bright and organized store, and knowledgeable staff then you will say goodbye to GNC. Tried a sample of the protein pancakes from MetRX at the NorCal FitExpo 2014 and was so bummed when Active Nutrition didn't carry it. I almost resorted to eBay when I called and delighted to learn that this place has 'em. It was on sale - same price I would have paid on eBay! The guy that helped me gave me ideas on how to incorporate other nutrients to this delicious product. He did not try to sell me anything. He believes in living fit and healthy, I can tell. Saw tons of protein drinks, some I have never seen before. Then I turned and saw Quest Bars. I can eat that as a meal and/or as a treat. I love this lifestyle that I have embarked. I have to say price wise, the Vitamin Shoppe beats GNC almost every time. They don't have silly "first week of every month" kind of sales, they just have regular comparable prices to online stores. If you're in a bind, Vitamin Shoppe is a great place for your supplements, protein, etc. I do find this location to be a little bit odd, it's a huge store but ... so empty inside. The sales associates almost never leave the central cash register area so ... you're not entirely sure if they're there to offer help or just to ring you up. Ordering on their web for store pickup, my order was changed to home delivery , but not by me! This happen before, so I made sure I had selected store pickup. I placed the order and noticed immediately the order was being shipped to my home. I call them a minute later to have the order changed. They said they could not cancel or change the order. Very impressed with the customer service at this Vitamin Shoppe location. I came in looking for a specific brand of protein powder that I have purchased here before, only to discover that they no longer carry it anymore. I was slightly disappointed, however the store associate working offered all the samples that they had left-around 10 packets of the protein powder. I thought that was very thoughtful of the employee. In addition to the great service, the store is very clean and very spacious. It has anything that a serious gym goer or health nut like me would need. From protein powders, protein bars, BCAA's, preworkout, fish oil, probiotics, vitamins, and a wide assortment of essential oils, this store has it all! From the outside looking in, this place seems to have it all. the selection of supplement's and proteins is vast, the store is clean and the prices are reasonable. the staff, however, leaves a lot to be desired. Product knowledge is key when it comes to supplements, and if your knowledge is lacking, then either educate yourself or find another job. Being a personal trainer i know what supplements to take and how they effect the body, i was hoping the staff at the store new as well. in a word NOPE! Case in point. I was within earshot of a "salesman" as he was explaining to a young man, who was obviously eager to gain muscle, on what he should he take to gain size. within the span of five minuets he had loaded this kid up with no less than $300 dollars worth of non essential crap. "NO Explode" which is a stimulant and vasodilator ( makes your veins pop out ) and with this kids body mass, i would guess 135 dripping wet, the recommended dose would keep him up for a week. Add to that testosterone boosters, exotic and very expensive tinctures and the wrong type of protein, Casein ( used at night before bed time to help the body recover and rebuild, not for gaining mass) and you have the recipe for one very disappointed and possibly sick individual. I myself have asked questions about products only to have the employee read to me what it says on the side of the box. I know what the company says about it, you tell me how it works. you don't know? then how the hell did you get this job!! And one other thing. practice what you preach! having someone who is out of shape tell me what to take to burn fat and gain muscle is a lot like going to a dentist who has rotted teeth. read more

I take an avg. of 7 different vitamins a day as well as a protien powder. The man did NOT want to help me. When I asked a simple question like "when will you get these back in stock" he had no clue. I stopped in to pick up a few items after checking the website to make sure the items I wanted were sold by the Vitamin Shoppe. I should have called first, because what I sought was either out of stock or not carried at this store. They carry a large selection of vitaminny things (including a surprising variety of pet supplements), and it didn't feel as much like a gym extension as some similar places can (like some musclebound gym rat is going to pounce from between the stacks and start flailing at me with a jumbo canister of protein powder in one meathook and a shake weight in the other. Am I being overimaginative again?). Although I left empty handed, I'm handing out two stars because the staff was very helpful in searching for what I needed in-store, then offering to order it online for delivery to the store. I have a mental block against GNC. Big buff men and mall shopfronts just are not my thing. But I don't have that same issue with Vitamin Shoppe. I also hate having to call. Today I went looking for Optimum Any Whey Protein Powder...flavorless so you can add it to almost anything. They said it was so popular they were totally out. Supposed to get 5 containers today but they didn't come. Okay. They did offer to order it for me and have it delivered there, but I seriously hate having to go pick things up out of schedule...so I said nope. Ordered it online at Amazon with 2 day free ship with Prime...it'll be here Wednesday. Done. However, VS does have a ton of selection, they just are quite often out of favorites. My top favorites...Oh Yeah! protein wafers & Glenny's 100 cal fiber brownies (these things are such a hit at my office!)...today they had a ton of BOTH so I did some stocking up big time. I even found some random Muscle Milk chocolate pudding cup with a ton of protein that *supposedly* tastes good. Hmm. Sometimes I can go in with a bajillion questions and the worker can answer all of them AND on top of the answers suggest something that could be beneficial to me. I usually buy vitamins and supplements online but when I'm caught empty handed with little patience to wait for shipping I come here. They have their own parking lot so parking is never a challenge. The store is super spacious so you're free to roam. Sales associates are knowledgeable and helpful. And if you don't need their assistance, they don't hover or bother you. They also have wide variety of products, brands, vitamins and etc. When I do come to this location, from time to time, there's a super helpful sales person here. Super tall guy. I don't remember his name. But he always greets me warmly, offers first hand recommendations and helps me reach tubs of protein out of my reach - I'm only five foot and some change. I'm usually not a fan of chain supplement stores, but the VS on Stevens Creek isn't bad. Sales people here aren't pushy like other stores *GNC*. I thought this was a nice gesture but it was nice of the employee to admit that he didn't know and would ask another employee who did know, rather then give me false information and try to sell me a product. More selection then GNC, and definitley better pricing. They do have some good buys when there is a sale going on, but for the most part..online and Good Life is cheaper. Sadly, sometimes when I ask them questions...they just don't know, but they definitely take their time out to look it up and help you with the best of their abilities. Some employees know more than others. They know the basic knowledge, but not too in depth. Vitamins, herbs, etc...it may have the same name, but different products work well for different body types and the dosage recommendations are really important. In a pinch the prices here are can't be beat. I mean yeah GNC has the "Gold Card" which you have to pay for, and if you really look you save more AFTER the Gold Card week than you do during it... Trust me, I used to have a friend that worked at a GNC... I do have a Vitamin Shoppe card here and if you spend over X amount of dollars they send you a nice gift certificate that you can use at the store or online. Total score... I do like the fact that they will honor the online price no matter what. All you have to do is bring in a print out of the price or have it on your iPhone and ready for them and that's it. I give you two for being the only one in the area. Otherwise, your lack of service, knowledge and willingness to help customers with their lifestyle lacks a lot. Manager is not helpful either. The lack of ownership to make the customers experience a priority is just stupid here. For example -- if you know you have a repavement going on in your lot, make sure you prepare to direct customers. Not ridicule them or shift the blame on the vendor that your company hired. Although I wish they carried Vitargo S2 like GNC (hint hint owner if you read this, start carrying it because I am buying it from GNC). Staff is generally more informative and fit.
