Dined here recently with family and a great evening at this classic, moderately-upscale restaurant. My Cajun shrimp was cooked perfectly, preceded by a healthy bowl of coleslaw which had a perfect balance between flavor and texture. The food was solid the whole way around the table all the while being served by our friendly, attentive waitress. The ambience is a touch old fashioned but I enjoyed the unique, local flair. Fantastic spot to experience the local vibe and enjoy the panoramic view of the St. Clair River. All this and the prices were very reasonable; great value! read more

I've been eating here with my parents ever since I've been a kid, and always found the food and atmosphere pretty good. The main draw is the scenery--if watching freighters chug up the river is scenery-I personally love to watch them. I've always enjoyed their simple "American" food menu, such as the crab cakes, clam chowder and club sandwiches. I always seem to be the youngest person eating there-looking over the vast sea of cotton heads. And I swear they've had the same waitresses for the past 30 years! So after your meal you can stroll the boardwalk, sit and watch boats or cross the road to do some shopping, get some ice cream, or drive south to nearby Marine City where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the various antique stores. Been here many a time, but this visit was by far the worst. Lets start with the appetizer. Ordered the mushroom. 1 mushroom covered with pieces of crab in a very salty sauce. Soup & salad. Soup was mostly celery with what appeared to be left over chicken from the day before diced into cubes salad was just iceberg lettuce with dressing. Perch dinner only had 3 pieces rather than 4 as stated on the menu. A little salty, but not too bad. Rice pilaf, or whatever it actually was, was over salted, over cooked, and had some sort of sauce on it. Couldn't eat it. The asparagus was steamed, but no seasoning. So if you like bland, yer good to go. The shrimp and scallops were a disaster. Over cooked and over seasoned. The baked potato looked like it was from last week and was way over dine. At least the beer was cold. Total meal was $66. Its a shame the quality has tanked. The wait staff gas been there for years, and are very good. Gave the served a hood tip, since serve was good and she wasn't responsible for the food quality. Piano bar makes it a nice atmosphere, so maybe this is just a good place to have your favorite beverage until the food quality cones back around. read more

The view and the patio space were excellent. The service could not have been better. The bar space even looked interesting and I wish we would have thought to sit there. However, this was our first time at the Voyageur and we did not know what to expect. I would have been nice if the hostess asked us if we wanted to sit at the bar. The dining room was dated and not in an iconic way but in a tired and we don't want to update way. I hate dinging places during covid because I know everyone is trying their best but my guess it looked the same last year. So my husband enjoyed his white fish meal. I opted for the (flavorless) french onion soup and a stuffed mushroom app with imitation crab. I've noticed several resturants in the area try to pull off the new england seafood thing. Well without the fresh east coast seafood and knowledge on how to cook it most restaurants outside of New England can't do it well. Living in New England we know the difference. Resturants in Michigan should stick with local fish and meat dishes (which Michigan does well). Maybe a shrimp appitizer because that is a frozen product wherever you go. Try making something called crabbies with that imitation crab meat it will fly off your menu. I was disappointed with the food but not so much the experience. However, this was a Monday night and many of the restaurants in the area close on Monday so this was the only option we could find. read more

Location is great! The view is spectacular anywhere in the restaurant! The service was mediocre on the Monday afternoon when we went. They did seem a bit short staffed, but our waiter was as attentive as possible. My husband ordered a burger and it was cooked as ordered. His portion was good for lunch. I ordered a salad with shrimp (special of the day) and I was very disappointed in the size. Very small, not enough lettuce and too much dressing. Usually when people order a salad, they do want some lettuce to help fill them up! And there was no side of bread or crackers. I felt it was overpriced for what we got. Voyageur what can I say, what makes this place so special is the staff. So nice, so friendly. The view, the best on the river. Mostly fish on the menu. Happy hour Monday thru Friday, all the regulars are there. The piano players are amazing. Not over pricey. read more

Wretched!!! The server was fantastic but the chef was IMPOSSIBLE to work with. We had questions about the menu and the chef made the server go back and forth at least 7 times!!! We finally asked the chef to come out and they wouldn't. The chef is either lazy or incompetent. This restaurant has gone down hill. For the amount they charge customization is normally accepted. This is NOT A GLUTEN FREE FRIENDLY RESTAURANT. Don't even bother going. The food was mediocre, even the items prepared according to the menu. Very disappointed. I haven't been here in years and I don't plan on going back anytime soon. I ate on the dining room side of the restaurant. The service was great but the food was terrible. I enjoyed the fresh warm rolls and baked potato soup that came out prior to the main dish. I had a chicken salad and the chicken could not have been any drier or flavorless. There were large chunks of icebergs lettuce mixed with romaine. The chicken was so difficult to eat I would compare it to chewing a mouth full of bubble gum. read more

Came here on 2/16/12 per recommendation of my Brother-in-law who's been fishing the Lake St. Clair since he was a kid off Harsen's Island. I was borrowing my sister's car that was parked at my Brother-in-law's parent's place so I decided to buy them lunch. Catching up on my reviews this year that I've saved in some form or another. They recommended this place as it was right on Lake St. Clair and you could see the water and activity. So of course having grown up myself in Michigan I decided to try their Walleye fish lunch as I used to fillet and cook Walleye myself from my catch in the river. Unfortunately this place did NOT have that great of a Walleye fish, far from the fresh fish that I've caught and filleted myself as a child; hence the 2 star review as I won't return for that crappy fish again. Guess nothing beat catching and cooking your own fish, leave these places to the lazy old people and tourists if any come. The place was packed with retired people so I suspect it's their main business. read more

Went to lunch here on a recent visit. Food may be decent, but I had an interesting experience. Decided to try the hot turkey club, just to be different from a regular club. The good - lots of fresh turkey breast, and not the luncheon meat type. Real white meat turkey breast. The bad - wasn't much of a club, no lettuce or tomato, just turkey, bacon, and cheese. Appeared to have been grilled like a patty melt. As I was eating it, I kept thinking something is different about this. Suddenly realized what the problem was, and told the waitress. She told me it should have been made differently and that she would check with the kitchen about that. Then she comes back with the bill, without another word about it. WTF? We took our 3 grandchildren(7,8,&10)on Monday, wanted to share one of our favorite places To eat and enjoy the view. My grandson who is autistic doesn't express himself well. When his turkey and mashed potato meal came he would only eat the vegetable. Figured we take it home so we can enjoy it later. The turkey was freezer burned and very very dried out. (realized it as we were packing it up to take)The instant potatoes and gravy was tasteless I don't think they even added any salt. My granddaughter had a cheeseburger that was well beyond overcooked. We waited a long time for the meals.But the bees were so horrendous we couldnt just sit around. The kids were all waiting for their chocolate milk which they received after we were packing up to go.The bees were such a distraction,Not realizing the kids chose not to eat because of the poor Quality of the food.The chicken tenders were good,but $8.00 ea was a lot to pay for 2 child's meal that we had to throw away. We were planning to come back as we always do during the fall colors. We've never had a problem but now we're concerned as to the quality. read more

Thought we would give it a second chance. Had a 6:30 RESERVATION only to get there and be told there was no seating for us. We were told we would have to wait for a table to empty. Humm, last I remember a reservation meant that they would hold a table for you. The manager once again, a gem of a personality. The only good thing about this place is the view. House wine is $6, I can get a name wine at any other establishment for $6. It was embarrassing to have out of town guest expecting to be seated with a reserrvation and told we would have to wait. Hadn't been there in a long time and was saddened to see it lost a lot of its class. Busy lunch crowd, they filled up quickly. Food was OK but nothing special. Lunch was a piece of salmon and an ice cream scoop mound of potatoes. If you didn't want the potatoes, the vegetable option for the day was corn on the cob. Seriously? So that was my plate. No salad, no soup, no nothing. A piece of fish and a blob of garlicky mashed potatoes. $15.99. Outrageous! View of the river is great, parking lot is close to the building. It was good they had separate entrances for the bar, bowling alley, and dining area. read more

Don't go for the oysters! I ordered the oysters on the half shell once and they were dried out and flavorless. The next time I was there I asked the waitress to see if they were opened per order, as they should be. She asked the chef and he said they open them ahead and keep them chilled - hence the dry and flavorless properties. I love oysters and order them whenever they are on the menu and have always had them opened for my order, with this one exception. It makes me wonder what other shortcuts they take? read more

We came here for a birthday dinner. The table was ready when we arrived and we were promptly seated. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The menu had a good mix of salads, sandwiches, and entries to choose from. The wait time from when we ordered to when the food arrived was short considering the size of our party. It was evident that the food was order prepared. Everything was done perfectly and the portion sizes were on the larger size. Our party ordered several different seafood entries (which they are known for), steak, and chicken as well as items off the children's menu. Overall it was a pleasant dinning experience and I would highly recommend eating there if your in the area. read more

This is gross over priced Gordon Food service food. I ordered the portabella mushroom which had a canned yellow sauce on top. It was loaded with salt and I actually like salt, but this was processed food garbage.. It was mushy and tasted like nursing home food. I most recently ordered the Asian salad which was supposed to have shrimp on top. There were these breaded long skewers of something with a sickening sweet glaze poured over them. Completely disgusting. I didn't want to embarrass my mom who was taking me out for lunch. Next time, well, there will be no next time. read more

Would state it was poor service but would actually have to have someone even come to the table to be able to comment. We were literally seated at a table directly across from the bartender's cash register. Waited 10 minutes and the only person that acknowledged us was the hostess who poured us water. After 10 minutes we got up and left. The absolute salt in the wound was as we were walking out the manager stated " didn't anyone wait on you"? I replied nope. This was a great dining experience. The food was terrific with nice sized portions. We had service that was some of the best I've had. Our server was Annie. We laughed because the owner has multiple servers named Annie so he chose an animal name for each of them. Our server Annie's nickname was Squirrel! She was very funny and very efficient. Why oh why didn't I pay attention to the other reviews? My family and I decided to go on Sunday because the weather was unseasonably warm and I could not think of a better view to enjoy. Sadly, the service we received was sub-par. The dining room was busy, but the four of us only had water to drink and ran out several times. The server could have given us a carafe of water to ease her workload at our table. We saw carafes of water on other tables. The quality of the food was dubious. All off us ordered the Captain Jack Ribeye with Jack Daniels Sauce. Two of us ordered medium rare, the other two were ordered at medium temperature. Two steaks came out medium, but were still edible. The other two were sent the steak back because they were over done. A person I can only assume is the manager because he never formally introduced himself came out and told us that the steaks sent back were not well done, but only medium. He said we couldn't tell that because of the lighting in the dining room and that they use LEDs in the kitchen. He proceeded during his comments to tell us to order the steaks less done than what we wanted in order to get the designed temperature. Is it ever a good idea to come out and tell customers that they don't know how to order a steak that way? He didn't seem to understand that the steaks that were returned tasted over done as well. Additionally, the Jack Daniels Sauce seemed to be missing the Jack Daniels. Sadly, this was what will be my last visit. While the view is spectacular, it cannot outweigh poor service and dubious attention to detail regarding the food. read more

Bowling is fun, clean and reasonably priced. Sports bar is nice, clean, has keno, good food, reasonably priced. Fancy end is terrible, food is just bad. The rest of the restaurant is great, would have given five stars if not for the fancy end that faces the water. read more
