I have never felt more compelled to write a review than I do today. What I just experienced here is the epitome of RUDE, CONDESCENDING and UNPROFESSIONAL. I called yesterday to see how soon I could get my two female Cavaliers King Charles Spaniels groomed, as we just couldn't make our regular groomer's (of 4+ years) schedule work with ours this time. I dropped them off a little before 10am and spoke to the groomer who made some suggestions on length of hair for the body and legs (some similar suggestions to what I'm used to, some different). In the end, I trusted her 'professional' opinion but I did say, twice, please leave their ears and tails long. She agreed. As I was leaving she said it takes about 1.5 hours per dog and asked if sometime around 2:00 would be okay. I said that would be fine. At 1:15, I was about 10 minutes away and thought I would call to see if they were finished. (1.5 hours x 2 dogs=3 hours/10am+3 hours is 1pm, right?). The male voice who answered said, 'Which dogs? Oh, let me check.' He picked up and said 'No, they're not done, it'll be around 2, LIKE WE SAID THIS MORNING.' I thought that was a bit snarky, but whatever. At 2:30, when I still hadn't received a call, I headed over there. When I walked in at 2:36, his first words to me were, 'Did you not hear me say they would be ready at 2:00?' I replied, 'Oh sorry, I assumed you would call me. You both said 'sometime AROUND 2' and I've always had my groomer call me when they're ready. Just a miscommunication on both our parts.' I paid while waiting for my dogs and was asked if I wanted to leave a gratuity (BEFORE I saw the quality of their cuts). I left one. When my sweet Blenheim cavalier walked out I couldn't help but say 'OH NO, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR EARS?!?' The groomer immediately responded 'they were really matted underneath so I had to cut them.' Our dogs have been groomed every 2-4 months for 4 years. I can assure you, Cavaliers ears can get snarly but they ABSOLUTELY did not need to be cut to her puppy length. Not only that, they were completely choppy. No apologies were offered. I left. In utter shock. When I got home, I reread all of their reviews and knew I wasn't alone in feeling this way, so I decided to call them to see if they would be open to my feedback. I was put on the line with the groomer, who apologized for not calling me to tell me that Mollie was having a hard time while getting her ears brushed and would she like me to cut them as short as humanly possible. When I said, 'wait, so she was getting squeamish so you decided to take a shortcut and just chop off all the hair so you didn't have to deal with her fussing?' Of course she got offended and said that she just made the professional call to cut them since my dog seemed to be in pain by having them brushed. She again said 'I admit, I should have called you first.' She asked what she could do to make it up to me. I said, 'What CAN you do? At this point, she looks like a male hunting dog instead of my sweet, pretty female cavalier. She said 'Are you looking for a refund?' I said 'I guess, I don't know what else can be done. They won't grow 7 inches in 2 weeks for her Christmas pictures.' She said 'I'll put you through to my receptionist and he can take care of it'. The male receptionist got on the line and said 'Okay, I can refund your $65 (no mention of refunding the tip, of course) but I want you to know our policy is that if someone gets a refund on a grooming, your dogs won't be able to come back to our store.' I couldn't believe it! I told him I would write a review so others would know if they're dissatisfied with a service (that the groomer admitted was her fault) you will be BANNED FROM THE STORE. His response takes the cake, 'I'm not too worried about losing your business since we already have a really good client base. Have a good day.' CLICK. Wow, imagine how many more customers they could have if they took feedback seriously and didn't display an immature, unprofessional attitude in response to it. I have been using The Wag Shop for my Westie's grooming since 2008. I called yesterday to inquire about a Saturday appointment (because I work all week) and was told by Dave that someone would call me back. I received a call back the next day from Jill and was told flat out that as of the first week of February, all Saturdays were closed to specific clientele until 2015. I don't mind working out for someone else to take in my dog (which is what usually happens) to have him groomed on a week day. It is not convenient for me at all and I cannot take off of work to groom my dog so I was just TRYING to see about a Saturday appointment. But to be told that the entire year of Saturday's is booked and there are no exceptions is absurd. If you flat out refuse to work with my schedule from the beginning then I refuse to even try to accommodate yours. Jill's tone was rude and very "you only come in every 6 months so you aren't a big enough client". I will take my business elsewhere. Apparently they are too busy to keep customers. Also, don't make someone wait 24 hours for a call back just to be told well we don't know why he told you we could fit you in because he doesn't do the scheduling. As much as it pains me, and as much as I was ready to say I could do a Tuesday morning, the attitude of that employee made me hang up so frustrated and start searching for a new groomer. read more

Stopped by here the other day for a walk-in nail trim and what a place! Toys and treats for MILES!!! Per the website, they are currently not accepting new grooming clients but do the walk-in nail trims (for $12). While we did have to wait about 5 minutes, my little Boston was in and out in no time - definitely the fastest nail trim he's ever had and most importantly, they did a great job! The staff were incredibly friendly and the store is just lovely - they carry not only a massive collection of toys and treats but dog food as well and really just about anything you could need for your kids (for many of us, that's exactly what our dogs are). I snagged several Christmas toys for my little guy at 20% off. They also offer a punch card for the nail trims - buy 6, get 1 free. I have taken both of my furbabies here (a Great Pyrenees and an Aussie mix) on separate occasions and Diedre did a great job with both. They are really affordable, which helps when you have an XL breed dog that normally costs $100+ most other places. Diedre also followed grooming instructions well for both pups. I like to leave my Pyr's tummy coat a little longer than most people, and I like my Aussie's face to be cut cute like a puppy! I just took my labradoodle pup to the Wag Shop for a groom and a haircut. The ladies were very nice, and my puppy when I picked him up seemed very happy like he just had a great time!(they let the doggies play while they wait to get picked up with your permission) The prices were reasonable and I definitely got the impression that they took good care of my little man. This review is limited to the one time I stopped in. (I must admit, I was next door at the Tattered Cover and this was an afterthought.) I popped in to look around and check out potential new toys for my already spoiled pooch. Not a huge selection, but enough. I was more impressed with the food options they had, along with some freezer marrow bones. I went home with a package of raw beef marrow bones. As for the price, it was about $15 (I think) for a package of about 7 or 8. I usually buy them at Whole Foods and they are much bigger, but also more expensive. This was a decent alternative. The man behind the counter was pleasant. He was talking with two other customers who he seemed to already know. I didn't feel ignored. When I went to check out, I asked about nail trimming services. He said they will accommodate walk-ins, as long as it's not right before closing. $12 for a trim or $17 if using the dremmel filing-type option. read more

As good as it gets and then some. Yes, they're popular, for a reason and popular places have to juggle quality, consistency, and availability. There are very few people who can work at this level of exceptional quality and that means that getting in to see them can be hard if you don't plan well ahead. Having said that, Dierdre and Dave and the rest of their staff do their utmost to be accommodating, including giving business to other groomers if it will help a customer with a scheduling issue. I plan well ahead and work with the folks at this shop on days and times because they are so worth the effort. I have two dogs, each of whom has her own issue with getting groomed. I wouldn't trust either of them to anyone else. Dierdre is patient and gentle, and just flat out understands and cares about dogs and she hires staff that feels and works the same way. I've only been here for a nail trim but I won't be going back. The store portion was nice. Clean, well stocked, etc. I was not thrilled with the nail trim that was done though. I showed up and my dog was seen almost immediately. Before I could do a lap around the store though he was already back out. I thought it was way too fast and I should have trusted my gut. They missed two dew claws, and the nails that they managed to remember clipping were broken, rough, and sharp. I don't know if it's just time for new clippers or what, but I ended up taking my dog to PetSmart where I've never had issues and paid less. Bottom line, save your money and go elsewhere. This place was great! I have a small rescued cocker spaniel who is very afraid of strangers. Right when we walked in half the staff came out to tell me how cute and sweet he was. This immediately reassured me knowing that they would be kind to my skiddish guy. The brought him in the back where there were 4-5 other dogs roaming freely and immediately jumped right in. Everyone in the shop has a very positive energy and it helps to ease both owner and dogs nerves. I had a plane to catch and they worked very well with my time line. When I cam to pick him up two hours later he was happy as a clam and looked/smelled as cute as a button. They gave him treats and treated him as if he was there own. Customer for life. read more

I've been taking my Scottie to the Wag Shop since 2010 when they were on 6th. However, as they've grown apparently so has their lack of customer service. I called in mid November to schedule an appointment and received a call back from Deidra, the owner, who had always groomed my dog. She told me there were no appointments left for the REST OF THE YEAR, and gave me a recommendation to another groomer. At first, I thought this might be true due to the holiday, so I gave her the benefit of the doubt, took the recommendation, and went elsewhere. I wanted to make sure I went back to a place of more familiarity, so I called in early December to schedule my next grooming in a couple months. I was told that they didn't have anything for a couple weeks, which was contrary to the "rest of the year" comment I had received in November. She told me she would check with the scheduler and I would receive a call back, yet I never did. I called yet again and tried to schedule an appointment by leaving a message, but never got a call back. I completely feel like they are blacklisting me as a customer because I'm not big enough, similar to Sherri G's review. I guess being a loyal customer for years and tipping 20% is not enough. I will never return to the Wag Shop and I strongly recommend you find a different location who appreciates their customers and wants their business. read more

Brought my 2 dogs here to get groomed. The shop did such a wonderful job, my 13 year old golden retriever was so soft and fluffy when she was done - it was like snuggling with a puppy again. They took great care to brush and clip all the mats from under the dogs ears and were very careful to not trim their nails too short. Dogs were gorgeous when I picked them up. Also - a bonus for me was they washed both their collars because the dogs all day long. Was a wonderful surprise. Great place. Friendly staff. Fairly reasonable prices for a full service dog salon ($190 for both huge dogs. . . both are 125lbs-ish and long haired.) read more

I went to the Wag Shop after reading these reviews and it exceeded my expecations. The owner came out and spoke with me for about 20 minutes before I even set an appointment. I have a Silky Terrier and a rescued Bichon and my rescue has always been a concern - groomers never treat your dog like it's their own they usually just want as many as they can cram in. Not so here - Max loved it and so did jack (the Silky)! They did so well, they came out exactly as I had asked and I am so happy to have a new lifelong groomer! Today the Wag Shop made me feel like one of those loyal dogs you see in the movies who is first yelled at and then kicked and told to go away. In a Catch 22 scenario they refused me service saying they weren't accepting new clients and I was considered a new client because I hadn't been there in over 6 months. Thing is, when I called in February for an appointment (3 1/2 months after my last appointment) I was told they couldn't get our dog in or put her on the schedule but that as soon as they could they would call. They never called. I eventually took her to another groomer and when I called this week (3 1/2 months after her last grooming) I again couldn't get an appointment this time because I hadn't been in recently. I am in total agreement with Sheri G., Ryan M, and Kyra T. We have been going to the Wag Shop since 2011 and called for an appointment for our retriever. I was promptly told by the person on the phone they are booked through June and can't take on any new clients. So then I say, "we have been coming to you for years, can I just booked the next available?" She then says, "No"....I was expecting this but still baffled. So then I ask, "Are you just taking poodles or something and you won't take him because he is a Golden with a simple groom?" Her story was that they are currently taking 30 dogs a day and can't keep up with the demand. Hmm.... so they are grooming 1080 dogs a month. And over 2000 dogs in two months. I don't believe them at all. So they suddenly had a surge of hundreds and hundreds of new clients in the last few months? They are selectively taking clients-especially those they can charge a bundle for. I hope this business model will come back to bite them because they deserve it. read more

I have been bringing my dog Minnie here for three years, basically since I got her. I have purchased many items at the store and have tipped Ryan, my groomer, consistently 20%. I am finished bringing my dog here and I'm looking for another groomer. I think they're getting too big for their britches. There was a price increase from $65-$75 for a medium-size dog about a year ago. Then, today they told me they are raising their price again to $85. Today I was 30 minutes late bringing my dog and I called them to give them a heads up. When I got to the shop, I was informed that I would be charged a late fee moving forward and that they would have to work my dog back into the schedule. When I had not received a telephone call five hours later I returned to the store only to find that my dog was not ready. I Don't think that it should take five hours to work her back into the schedule. I felt as if I was being punished for being late even though I called to inform them. Finally, my dog who is very friendly used to be able to be free range in the back of the shop. Last time I was there she was in a cage. I think it is time for me to go to a more personal mom and pop operation like this place used to be. They are not the only groomer in town. read more

I called this past Friday to schedule an appointment a few weeks out as I have done for over a year now and the gentleman I spoke with told me they were scheduled a few weeks out, but would check with the groomers to see when the next available was/see if they could squeeze her in sooner. I never heard back so I called today, monday, was asked my name and then put on a brief hold. A new woman picked up the phone and proceeded to tell me that they were booked out for the rest of the year and not taking any more appointments. Why the brief hold and a new person? Did they need to check my account to see if I was VIP or something? I told her I had been going there for over a year with no problem at all and wondered what was going on. She then told me that all of a sudden a few months ago people started booking their appointments out for the rest of the year....all of a sudden or were they prompted? Nonetheless, I understand that places can get booked up but this all seems a bit strange and sudden to me. They were pretty good groomers overall, decent prices, but never consistent though and the front desk person has always been a little snobbish. The owners were great when I've spoken with them though so its awfully disappointing. I won't be going back even if they do "magically" have spots open. read more

We LOVE the wag shop! Our pup (a poodle mix of some sort...) has been going here for almost 2 years and looks absolutely fantastic every time. Although a little pricer than some, the cut and love that your pup will get is far above anywhere else in town. The first time we brought our guy in (after a horrifying experience with another groomer) we and our pup felt welcome right away. Diedre helped us get on a good grooming schedule and answered all our questions about what we can do between trips. When he gets his annual "shave down" for summer, they take care to make sure that his coat will grow out perfectly normal, and they have "a la carte" services like nail trims and face trims (great for our guy and his overgrown visor) that you can pop in for without an appointment. Definitely worth the few extra bucks to have piece of mind that your pup will be in fantastic hands. This is a great local business that loves dogs and people! read more

I had a long conversation with the owner about their new microbubble machine. They are the only place in Colorado that has it and I was curious if it could help my dogs skin issues. Neither of us knew if it would work so Deidre agreed to work out a price for me to come weekly to start and then less frequent etc. I did around 3 of them for $25 each time. Unfortunately life got busy, I moved and then my dog needed surgery. A few months later when things calmed down I wanted to restart the sessions. I called to schedule and the man on the phone told me he would put Deidre on the phone for me. She didn't come to the phone and instead he came back on and told me the price has gone up to $100 per session! I explained to him that we had worked out the price of $25 since it was an experiment and I would need to come so frequently. (This is a mindless procedure that takes about 30 minutes and I even offered to do it myself, just using their machine). He replied, "yes I see that in the notes here, but that's what it is now." I emailed Deidre to clarify this was correct and explained why I haven't been on for so long. Never even got the courtesy of a response. I guess when your shop is that busy you can afford to screw people over. I am another local dog professional and needless to say, will not be sending anymore clients to their shop. Clearly that wasn't a concern of theirs anyway. read more
