My dog Cleo hates getting wet to the point it's traumatizing (and she's been hit by a car before I adopted her), yet she leaves feeling loved and beautiful. The cute matching "neckerchief" always reminds her of that, and she always gets more pets when she's all clean. She is so soft every time and actually smells good! Although booking the appointment was easy and the gentleman I spoke with on the phone was very kind, unfortunately my experience once I arrived was extremely disappointing. As soon as I came in, the groomer immediately told me that my dog was severely matted. I regularly bathe her at home and had literally done a deep brushing session right before bringing her in. She took a comb through her coat and said she was matted, but when I took the comb myself and ran it through her fur, it slid right through. I will acknowledge that the area around her ears was likely more difficult because she doesn't like having that area handled, but I was very uncomfortable with the way the situation was approached. As someone with curly hair myself, I understand that curly coats can require more patience and care when detangling. Unfortunately, I felt that the groomer was impatient and her attitude toward me was very off-putting and unkind. When I returned to pick up my dog, she had been shaved completely bald and was left with a full beard that made her look like a little grandpa. She also had cuts around her ears, which was especially upsetting to see. The groomer again came out and scolded me about what type of brushes I use at home. I understand that grooming isn't always perfect and that sometimes shaving is necessary when there are genuine mats, but I would have appreciated better communication, more patience, and much more care with my dog. If the end result was going to be a completely bald dog with cuts on her ears, I could have gone to PetSmart. I don't think I would return, but if I do decide to give the business another chance, I would absolutely not want my dog handled by this particular groomer again. I had taken my cats to Urban Dog for years and was pleased. HOWEVER, the current groomer who was asked to do a Lion's Cut, sliced and diced my ragdoll. I don't think she was even bathed! It has been four months and her hair hasn't grown back!!! Her back is scabby. Tufts of fur extend beyond what was supposed to be her "mane." The vet says she is physically healthy. read more

DO NO TAKE YOUR DOG HERE TO GET GROOMED. STAT AWAY! I have taken my dog here since we rescued him 6 years ago. However, I will never come back here ever again. To start, I noticed that when I picked my dog up his face was trimmed extremely short. When I spoke with the groomer at drop off. We agreed we would give him his usual round cut. Not a big deal- hair will grow back. He still looked cute. Later the next day my husband noticed my dog was not opening up his eye. He noticed a dark red mark under his eye and just assumed it was stain-which is normal. So he continued to try to clean around his eye and realized it wasn't a stain ,it was cut. Then he took a closer look and noticed our dog had another noticeable nick on the same side of his face. I understand accidents happen and wasn't upset about the mistake. I was more upset that it happened and the groomer didn't communicate that to me. I immediately called and spoke with a young gentleman on the phone about my grooming experience. I was not upset at this point. I just wanted to speak with someone to see what happened so I knew what happened my dog and what to look out for. I sent him over two photographs showing where my dog had been nicked. He was very kind and took down my information and said he would call the manger/owner. When he called me back he said that his boss would be calling me back the next day. And that he was taking this very seriously. I said , thank you before hanging up the phone. Cut to the following evening. No one had reached out or contacted me. So I called back. The same person picked up and sounded confused when I told him his boss never reached out to me. He then told me, he had told his boss what happened and he should be reaching out to me. That was on Saturday. 3 days later I had still not heard back from anyone. So I called back in the morning hoping to hear something,anything.A very kind young woman answered and I very calmly and patiently retold what had happened. She took down my information and said she would let her boss know. I told her when her boss called me and I didn't answer to leave a voicemail. Cut to - later that day 45 minutes before they close. I still had not heard back from anyone. At this point I am starting to feel like I am intentionally being ignored. It has now been 5 days since I first contacted them to let them what had happened to our dog. This time a different male picked up the phone. I am assuming it was the owner or the manger. He had my information and knew why i was calling. He listened to what I had to say. But then followed it up with he spoke with the groomer she said my dog had goopy eyes and she did her best to clean his eyes. Which wasn't the issue. The issue was the cuts on his face left by the groomer and lack of accountability and avoidance. I said I had been bringing my dog there for years and am a loyal customer. To which he said , I see you have been bringing your dog in on and off for a few years. He then mentioned that my dog's grooming habits. Insinuating that I only bring my dog in a few times a year that the injury could've been from the lack of grooming on my end..... ummmm excuse me!!!! I wipe and groom our dog everyday. He is shitzu and HAS TO BE brushed often otherwise he gets tangled within a month. He also has to receive drops in eyes so I am constantly looking at his face and those cuts weren't there before. I know our dog's face. I would have noticed those marks on his face. I also said him if he had spoken to the groomer why no one had contacted me for days!? I know accidents happen. It wasn't the mistake it was lack of accountability and how rude the 3rd person I spoke with was(assuming it was manger/owner since he said he had spoken to the groomer about this)It was waiting 5 days without communication when my dog has cuts on his face. Do not take your dog here. Brought in our 2 pound pom and groomer acted shocked at "mats" in her underocat and kept saying she needed to be shaved. Which if you own a pom you know that shaving their undercoat is horrible for them. Front desk people backed up the groomer protesting that brushing her coat out would be very painful for her...well so would shaving her undercoat off. Proceeded to take her to Kriser and they took perfect care of her and I picked her up very relaxed and happy not shaking at all like she was at Urban dogg and super soft so idk if they just dont want to brush dogs out??? but for 100 bucks maybe you should learn how to brush a dog. I've been getting my cat shaved once a year, there for 5 maybe 6 years. Usually get a lions cut, because he's a Maine Coon and it fits his personality. If you know the breed they have lots of long hair, and sometimes the undercoat can get matted. This year the groomer complained that we didn't want his nails trimmed, "he's a mouser bc I live in a Victorian" After the cut she said she would never trim our cat again bc he scratched her. I'll let you know in a year if the company that charges $160 a cut for 1 cat will be willing to have us back. My bet is, Yes, and the groomer is working somewhere else. read more

While our dog's initial grooming was great, it seems that with every trip to this groomer our dog has become more scared/stressed out by grooming, to the point that he would cry and struggle even when we would brush him at home (and he never had a problem with this before!). It seemed to escalate every time he went here. The very first time he came the groomer noted that he was very relaxed and well-behaved. Only issue was he had some stomach issues afterwards which we assumed to be just from the new experience. Each time after he would become more and more resistant to us brushing or bathing him, and each time we took him back here the groomer would note he would be resistant, with his resistance becoming worse and worse each time. The very last time we took him here, the groomer looked about 16 years old. We picked him up to find he has a couple of small mats in his fur, cuts on his belly, and it was clear he felt a lot of discomfort around his anus. A couple of days after his grooming he became VERY sick, coughing up white foam etc...and after rushing him to the vet found out he had kennel cough. He hasn't been in any enclosed space with other dogs within that time period other than the groomer. I also have started to hear from friends/coworkers who have brought their dogs to this location that they had similar experiences. I don't know if it's just that they are seeing too many dogs at a time or what but it breaks my heart to know I was taking my little guy to a place that was clearly hurting him. Definitely consider other groomer options in town...you can get a much better (and safer) grooming service in denver for the same amount of money. read more

Took my dog here once to get her anal glands expressed. She's been bleeding from her butt since that day and 2 weeks later confirmed she has an anal gland infection. Definitely would recommend going to an actual vet for this. Urban Dogg advertises that they do anal gland expression for dogs but you have to be a certified vet tech to do it properly. I started taking my dog Obi to this location for grooming services because they are not currently backlog like many other groomers in the area. Obi is an Aussiedoodle and they always do a good job of cutting his hair exactly as requested. Sammy was our preferred groomer but after her departure we've seen other staff and never had any issues. They offer a "rewards" program which is great considering the frequency Obi needs to be groomed. read more

Maaaannn, this place is kinda slippin. I'm writing this right now bc it's time for a groom but I want to look for someone else. I've been going here for 3 years now & was pretty impressed the first 2 years. I have a Yorkie but we don't get a Yorkie cut. I keep it simple for ppl & ask for a body buzz & teddy bear face. The last 3/4 times we've gone in has been slightly disappointing. I pay $100 for a 5lb Yorkie so you'd think all the groomers are well experienced, but I think for whatever reason it's kind of crap shoot now. Yikes! The staff is really friendly and professional, and who doesn't love to support a local business? They offer a variety of food, supplies, toys and treats that my cat and dog absolutely love. The little crunchy salmon treats of their favorite. They also offer grooming, and even give a discount for your first appointment. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because I feel like the price (even discounted) for my grooming was a bit high given my pooch is only 12lbs. They did do a wonderful job though. He's not shedding AT ALL now, and he was totally fine when I picked him up instead of pissing himself. That tells me that handled with care. Urban Dogg is also really conveniently located near a lot of other errand-type establishments, so it's easy to plan a day where you can take care of all your affairs in one swoop. So.. I've been taking my pup for grooming here my pup always got a decent groom and he smelled great and the soap they use doesn't leave residue which makes freshness of the groom last so much longer. Well then I got a little bougie and thought my dog's face wasn't teddy bear enough and too linear along the jaw line and the leg's weren't fluffy enough; blah, blah blah. I thought oh I can take him to a more expensive place and get what I want. Well, that's not what happened. The moral of the story is Krystal/Crystal is an awesome groomer with attentiveness that many other groomers I've tried just do not adhere to. She gets his privates all nice and neat, trims well around the bum and tail. The face is amazing compared to others... seriously the choppity, chop of other groomers on my buddy's face would be humorous if I hadn't of just paid someone to do it to my dog. I have never written a bad review ever! But I am extremely disappointed with my dogs groomer/owners... I took my golden doodle in get groomed. I asked them to shave him and trim around his face. When I picked him up 3 hours later he look cute at first. However, when I got home and took a closer look, his ears were not cleaned, his nails were not trimmed, his tail was not even brushed! His hair cut was SO uneven, they didn't even round out his paws, it looks so bad! They botched the shape of his face too...it's so sad... It looks so terrible and the worst part is they charged me $119!!! I even tipped them 20%, my fault because I should have taken the time to exam the work. My dog looks like he was groomed by me... I have zero groom training! Urban Dogg....I would call you to ask you to correct and fix his hair cut, but I have little faith that you guys are even capable of it because your lack of pride in the work you do.... I would never charge someone $119 for low a quality service. It demonstrates to me as a costume you take little pride or care in your work and more interest in make money off of people. IF you were an honestly company I would expect you to be honest up front in your abilities and transparent about what you can and can not do before you charge someone that much. read more

We had a great experience with the front desk person and the service was provided quickly (nail cutting.) Unfortunately, we heard the groomers through the wall both yelling at my dog (he nipped at the first cut) and talking about us and my dog. It was jarring to hear employees being that unprofessional within earshot. I also felt like they should have come out to tell me that he had bitten the groomer when it happened instead of talking about it where I could hear because I was feeling bad about it and uncomfortable. We also paid $25 to get his nails filed down and at the other location, his nails were smooth and close to the cuticle. The results here were jagged and looked as if they'd just been trimmed with regular nail cutters. Overall, I would recommend the Wash park location over this one. read more

Was a little thrown off the other day when I was charged an extra $10 for 'recovery' that was only brought up as I was checking out (so take note you will get charged this.) 'This Recovery/Condition surcharge is used to compensate the grooming staff for the extra amount of time and care required for each pet and will also help our staff recover economically. Her cut is extremely uneven, hair is long, ears don't look like they were touched and she has been cut. I've never owned a dog, and up until 6 months ago, I didn't really know what went into owning a labradoodle (grooming wise). I adopted my dog from a local shelter, and when I first got her, they told me they shaved her because of how matted she was when she was found (she was borderline bald). I knew that doodles of any kind do need extra hair care because of how easily it can mat due to the texture. I made sure I'd brush her when I started to notice any kind of matting (of course I wouldn't be able to get all of them out). I live near this location and for a first grooming session, I thought it would be a great choice! The staff were nice and they were very kind to my dog. She was pretty fluffy when I took her in, and I preferred they only take an inch to two inches off because I love her fluffiness and it's getting cold outside. I received a call about an hour into the appointment indicating that she would need to be shaved because all the matting on her legs and belly. I didn't realize how much they would actually shave her down considering I knew the mats could easily have been brushed out (because I did them myself at home, and trust me, I've seen matted dogs in worse situations and groomers have been able to comb those mats out, just takes patience). Her haircut is not bad, but it could have been better with a little more patience. In places her hair is pretty uneven, especially on her feet and face. She's also shaved down to the skin around her elbows and on parts of her legs... I also asked them to cut her nails but they definitely weren't cut. I'm sure this location is great for dogs that aren't a doodle of some sort! For a first timer, it was overall an okay experience but probably won't be returning. read more

I can't comment as to any reviews regarding dogs, but I've been taking my cat here for years and they have always been friendly enough and done an excellent job. She always smells great and looks amazing. You never know what happens when you leave your pet with a groomer, but she always is calm when I pick her up and is her usual self as soon as we get home. Plus they have been really understanding when twice I couldn't get her into the crate in time to make the appointment! I would definitely recommend Urban Dogg. Side note: while I can't speak to individual negative experiences, I'd keep in mind that no service (groomers or otherwise) will always be perfect. Personally I think if you don't like the pricing or the inherent chance you are taking, then you should probably put in the effort of grooming your pet yourself (you may end up realizing how difficult it can be and appreciate that there is someone who has to do it all day so you can avoid the occasional hassle, in my opinion.) And who cares if there's a $10 "recovery" charge--in this economy 1. Small business shouldn't be scrutinized for doing what they need to do to stay open and profitable and 2. Given the pricing, if it's the $10 charge that makes or breaks it for you, you probably shouldn't be spending the money on a groomer anyway. (Personally, I'm more upset with the huge corporations that had no cash on hand due to buying back their own stock for years then taking millions in PPP and laying off their employees anyway e.g. United Airlines.) read more

Pretty disappointed to have to write this review because this groomer is in my building, so it would have been super convenient to be able to use them for my pup's grooming needs Took my 16 week old pup to be groomed at Urban Dogg uptown today. As expected he was a little nervous with me leaving him at the groomer for a while, but since I brush him every day and bathe him every couple of weeks, and make sure to play with his paws and his ears all the time, I figured he would be fine! Go back to pick him up a couple hours later. He's been bathed, but the groomer informed me that he got bitey while they were clipping his nails, so they ultimately decided not to "even try" using the clippers since they figured he wouldn't tolerate it. Okay! I understand, he has to learn and get better at these things. But their website mentions that if a dog bites they may use a humane muzzle which clearly they decided not to attempt. But, after I got home (and after paying $70+tip, which they said was the $10 puppy discount for his breed) I noticed that they didn't even bother to trim the fur between his paw pads?? So I basically paid $70 for a bath and a nail trim which is insane. I know for a fact that they only charge $15 for a nail trim there. Called them to see if that was right and they confirmed that indeed "you got a discount" for him being a puppy, but apparently I still have to pay full price for a grooming that was basically just a bath. They offered me a discount off of the next visit, which obviously won't be happening. Again it's pretty disappointing more than anything else. I wanted this to be a good neighborhood spot for my pup but I'll be taking my business elsewhere for sure. Update: the owner contacted me and generously offered me to work with a groomer he is confident will be able to work with my pup, so I am upgrading my review to 3 stars for the time being.
